My doctor gave me a pregnancy test - but instead of weeing on a stick he sent my wee off to a lab.

Then he (this young Dougie Howser-style upstart ) tried to tell me about not eating certain things and I told him I wouldn't be doing that and then he asked me if I smoked and I said "well no, I'm breastfeeding" and that was pretty much it.

beanieb · 27/05/2009 23:17

I've not actually informed my GP. Just the Fertility unit at the Hospital. Last period was 13th April and the online calculators say I am due 16th Jan.
ILoveDolly your cycle length might effect it?

ILoveDolly · 27/05/2009 23:17

Ahh Skidoodle, a young one. My doctor looked at the notes, said 'Is this your 2nd preganancy? Oh well do you have any questions? No? I don't expect you do'. I expect he has learned this tactic after many experienced pregnant women giving his little speeches the cold eye.

ILoveDolly · 27/05/2009 23:18

But the doctor didn't do cycle length....

LessThenIdeal · 27/05/2009 23:27

Skidoodle - i know what you mean about the early mornings - my lot tend to get up anytime for 5.30 onwards - 7am is a bloody lie in!!!

I'm just feeding on demand, as usual. DD is 13 months now and eats loads anyways. She feeds first thing, then about half nineish... then can go til about 5.30, then has a bedtime feed at 7. She might wake up about midnight for a feed, but thats no problem as we co-sleep. I really need to get her into her cot though before this one comes along.

maygirl · 28/05/2009 00:36

Marmite, I'm so sorry to hear about your little DD. I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling. I'm glad you feel able to talk here xx

IrrationalMother · 28/05/2009 08:18

Hello,

I am sorry, I haven't really read the thread (at work trying to summon up some enthusiasm for my in-tray) but can I join? I think I will be bringing up the rear. I have an EDD of 31 Jan 10 (and the last one was 2 weeks late!)!!!!

I have 1 DS - 18 months, and can't wait for him to have a little brother or sister.

Have that terrible time-dragging feeling, really can't wait for 12 weeks...

laurawantsababy · 28/05/2009 08:35

IrrationalMother - Your EDD is the same as mine!

I still havent told dp - He was v.tired just now so will wait until the weekend! I am wondering how to keep it quiet for another 2 months - My stomach is defo swollen and Im sure its not the magnums I have eaten

laurawantsababy · 28/05/2009 08:36

Thanks for the info about the Gp booking in. I will go and see him next week.

JamieJay · 28/05/2009 09:03

I'm in Cardiff too beanieb. In terms of your OH telling people, I think I'd want to wait a little longer than 8 weeks but if it's close friends and you can rely on them being discrete I'd have thought it would be okay.

ILoveDolly I have no real idea about my EDD as my cycles are very variable so will look forward to my dating scan!

marmitemonster I'm sorry about your little girl, but please don't worry you'll love your next baby just as much. I do think that DC2 should know about DD1 though, I can understand where your DH is coming from but she should be celebrated not hidden away (IMveryHO)

ClaireDB I'm already getting bored of all the peeing!

Hello to everyone else, how many others are expecting their first??

starshaker · 28/05/2009 09:33

i feel so bloated i wouldnt be surprised (ok i would a bit) if i popped out an 8pounder today. i feel huge and fat and blargh. I look in the morror and see my tummy and think awwww im having a baby then i think thats obviously just bloating cos there is no way i can look pregnant yet

JamieJay · 28/05/2009 09:37

starshaker I'm the same, 5 weeks today and wasn't expecting any change in my belly until at least 11 weeks. Doing a very good impression of a blamange

I think there is no way I can expect it not to get out once my OH tells his best mates and brothers. Even if they say they will keep it to themselves I know they will tell their partners.

Have the added complication that my SIL to be has been trying for many years to conceive and has had a fairly recent miscarriage after IVF. She and I have both talked about our attempts to conceive and she knows I am now on clomid. I just don't want to upset her

in other news a friend just came into my office and said 'I can see the veins in your boobs!' Arrghhh!

Morning everyone

Well, me and DP are definitely cracking on with the wedding - to be honest, everything is organised and it just feels right, you know?

Clearly the dress is just a dress, so although it pains me as it was so goddamn beautiful, I can always find something equally as fabulous - I'm thinking Greek Goddess Chic...

The only real issue is the honeymoon which I think will take much longer to decide upon - providing I'm healthy and all is well, we still want to get away post-wedding so we're considering changing the destination to somewhere like the Maldives where I can properly relax and do nothing for a couple of weeks. We'll take a hit financially, but it may well be the best thing to do.

My very great mate told me she was pregnant just before the 12 week mark. I had been trying for ages by that point and she told me to my face which I will always be eternally grateful for. Not that it was easy, I cried when I got home, but she at least had the sensitivity to not tell me by email or text.

Still no symptoms! Am going through phases where I think there's something wrong and then I tell myself to stop being silly.

bluespix77 · 28/05/2009 16:40

beanieb we're due on the same day and I have no symptoms either, it does feel a bit weird, but apparently its quite common. Many peoples symptoms don't seem to kick in until 8 weeks. We have another scan next week, so that will tell us how we're developing.
