dannyg · 29/05/2009 17:13

Hia spoke to MW earlier she said to keep an eye on things and rest but to call strait away if i had any more mucus and aches got worse. So far i have not experenced anymore mucus thank god, & the aches have gone. Im so glad i finished work on Wen x x

Mij · 29/05/2009 18:05

Hope all is well dannyg evie sorry your birthday got hijacked! I have a mate whose firstborn was DS. She solved the problem by marching into a room of us waiting to see them, saying 'if anyone says 'sorry' or I see a hint of pity on any of your faces I'll punch your lights out.' So following their lead works IME!

weather was enjoying the sun until it got too sticky today and realised I have no summer weight trousers. And all my under-bump ones are now really uncomfortable too so no idea what I'm going to wear through the next 6 weeks. Could kill my mate who threw out my only linen pair, cos she thought they were 'a bit worn out' after she'd borrowed them. Grrrr.

QueenFee · 29/05/2009 20:57

evie sorry you have had a scare. Glad the trace was ok x

mij I know what you mean about under the bump the band under my bump now rolls up very uncomfotable but my over the bump ones are too tight Therefore I will suffer / wear dresses (tents) for the next 5 weeks. I have a maxi dress which isn't maternity that still skims it nicely. May buy another as I can wear them after too.

Mij · 30/05/2009 11:29

Hallelujah! Made an emergency trip to H&M before work this morning and got a pair of linen trousers and a cropped pair, both over the bump, and wore the long ones straight from the top. Sooooo happy. Gutted at the expense though - happened last time too. Just when I thought I'd got away with spending almost nowt on clothes (had lots of loaners) it turned hot and once the baby started moving down I just couldn't sit comfortably in anything under or on-bump. Oh well - that must be what the HiP grant is for . Although had to a buy a size 20. I know their sizes are a bit random, but considering all my other clothes (that fit fine) are a 12/14 I'm just having to trust that I haven't gone up 3-4 sizes and their cut is even more bonkers than usual...

QueenFee - slight of your dresses, must be very comfy, but I'm just not happy in dresses. For some reason my ankles seem to look even more planet-like in skirts/dresses than in cropped troos.

Patchybob · 30/05/2009 21:06

Hi
I hope all is ok with you DannyG Evie we share a birthday! but mine was less traumatic than yours. Hope you ok now and that your DP's sister and her family are doing well.
Have had a fun few days. DD and I had our shopping trip for baby bits. I let her choose an outfit for the baby to wear home. Bless her it was just the cutest. It took her ages and she went round all the clothes finding the one she wanted. Luckly I liked it too! So we are quite organised, just need a few more bits and pieces.
Do any of you know what strength Arnica tablets to buy? The lady in my health food shop suggested 200? is that right?
Have just watched Britians Got Talent with the dc. We all voted, for different people so it will be interesting to see how they react for the results (They are in bed now, hooray! so will watch it in the morning!)
Have a good evening everyone xxx

ilikeyoursleeves · 30/05/2009 22:25

Hi all, just spent ages trying to catch up but there are so many messages! Belgrano I am so sorry to read about your losses, what an awful time you must be having but hopefully concentrating on your bump may make these hard times more bearable.

I got back from our holiday to Menorca on Monday there- we had a great time, such a family friendly place so if you're looking to go anywhere in futire with wee ones then I'd totally recommend it. DS was great on the plane and I found the holiday really relaxing cos I did bugger all really other than sun myself and wander about at a snails pace .

HIP money- argh I got a letter to say I've not been paid it because I wasn't 25 weeks when my midwife signed the form (I was 24+6 FFS!!!) so I need to reapply ARGH At least it might come in to the bank by the time babba is here... hopefully!

I am feeling so huge with tight belly just now and I can really see the baby move. Tonight I saw him practically do a 180 degree turn, my whole belly looked like it was doing a mexican wave- most freaky!

I think we have settled on the name Zach Alexander what do you think? I love the name Zach but not really into Zachary so think he might just be Zach on the birth certificate. Mind you DS is known by a nichname of his full name so not quite sure what to do there...

soozze · 31/05/2009 02:02

belgrano - I'm sorry to hear about your father and grandmother. I hope you're managing to enjoy the wedding trip.

beccabump glad dd's operation went well and you were all home so quickly

Queenfee how heart melting to find your dc rocking and singing to the teddy. my ds has gotten very affectionate with the bump and 'baby' but last night was pretty clear he didn't want the baby to actually come out.

phoenix - I hope you get your CS. I'd have thought they'd give you a growth scan too as the outside measurements are pretty flaky. I'm also not keen to be induced but they've only mentioned it once and when I said I wasn't keen they talked about more monitoring instead. I will see what the consultant says next week.

My ds was 8.10 but wasn't really big, just long with big feet so even if they are big ones we may still get to use newborn stuff.

I had a midwife appt on friday, all fine and got to hear heartbeat I'm now measuring slightly small (was big a few weeks ago), so I think the fundal measurement means nothing. It's probably more to do with who's doing the measuring than how big the baby is.

The midwife also said it's likely that the second birth will be faster, but not much faster, than the first. She even gave a time estimate - last one was around 9 hours and so she said this one was likely 7 hours ! how's that for specific?? I am sure it's way more random than that. I'm still hoping for something more like your friend Gillyan

Activityapple - We had ds in with for a long time. First in a moses basket then in a travel cot. I was a big 'checker' too so it was better he was close. One thing that surprised me was that little babies breathe really irregularly, I called up the midwife in the end only to be told it was completely normal. When he first slept through the night I woke up in a panic !

scully i'm so of your reflexologist too, I wish I had someone to do that to my feet! I'm trying to fit in nightly foot baths, but so far have only managed a couple. I can't believe i actually own a footspa but I love it.

Jetli & plot2 - thanks for the salts info, I'd never heard of that. If you just take calc fluor, how often do you take it? I read one site that said 3 times a day, but the plan seems to be at certain months?

I've spent much longer planning the veggies too . Mind you I still don't know where I'm going to put the 24 squash seedlings merrily growing outside! I love watching ds pick and eat strawberries. We have the normal ones and loads of these really tiny alpine ones that you kind of have to forage for under the greenery.

I really like the names Zack and Alexander. If we were having a boy then we had issac on the list and intended to use Zack as nn.

dannyg - it does sound like a mucus plug, thinking of you

Phoenix · 31/05/2009 20:01

The June thread have had their 1st baby

Soozze - How did the 'running out of nappies' go?

We've been out in the garden today with ds in his paddling pool. I've got the beginnings of a nice tan. Burnt a bit on my legs though because they are so white i thought i'd not bother with suncream on them .

OP posts:
thelollipoplady · 31/05/2009 21:43

patchybob - i've started a thread about arnica - how much and when - on the childbirth topic. Plenty of conflicting opinions so far, but consensus seems to be 200c is a good average.

BonzoDoodah · 31/05/2009 22:24

Elvie congrats on the arrival of your new neice. Hard that she has DS but it's not so bad as people used to think. I'v emet some lovely people who have DS and their condition sometimes means they are more lovely than a person may be without it (if you see what I mean). I hope you're not all too shocked to celebrate a lovely new girl in the family.

I've spent the day in the garden with the paddling pool out and DD splashing water everywhere. It's been lovely. Only thing is that now I have shooting pains in my bump whenever I try to bend over. I don't know if it means something bad or is just because I've overdone it.

Patchybob · 01/06/2009 10:53

BonzoDoodah hope the pains are better today after a restful night.

Wow! We are having our babies next month! Strange to be able to say that now!!

Have a good day everyone xx

plot2 · 01/06/2009 11:41

Hi there

Evie congratulations on the birth of your niece, I am sure she will bring great joy to her parents so try not to worry too much.

Bonzo I'm not on mat leave yet, last week at work this week. Bet it starts raining next week!! It sounds like we have got similar things growing except parnips and peppers didn't germinate for me. Most of it is planted out now just last few things to go in.

I have booked a 1 hr pedicure next Mon to start off mat leave - can't wait. dd will still be in childcare for some days.

sooze with the salts thing I just take calc flour 3 times a day haven't bothered with the others in the program.

I have a friend who does homeopathy and she has recommended the following to me:
Arnica 200, 1000-2000 mgs a day of Vit C after c-section to help heal wound but not before as thins the blood.
Avoid eating foods of the nightshade family (such as aubergine, tomato, peppers and potato) for several days beforehand, as these can interfere with the breakdown of drugs in your body. Fennel tea to help with milk production as with planned C Sections the body has not gone through the normal prostaglandin/hormone releases.

I'm also eating lots of iron rich foods to help avoid a transfusion that can be common after sections I understand.

lollipoplady I will check out your thread - thanks.

Have a good day all.

BonzoDoodah · 01/06/2009 12:09

well done plot2 ... my veg is mostly still in trays in the greenhouse! Envious you finish next week ... [sighs and stares out of the window]

The pains have stopped today. I phoned the midwife at gone midnight as I couldn't remember feeling any movement either. She said I'd probably over-done it doing lots of walking and had stretched ligaments. She reccommended a bath and lots of iced water. FINALLY at about 1:30am the little sod kicked and I could go to bed. But then it was party-time apparently ... with dancing and jiggling for ages ... ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz. Lots of kicking today soon.

Quiltedrose · 01/06/2009 13:21

plot2 Bonzo v jealous of your veggies. I do recall having a gardenful with DD1 which shrivelled and died in that really hot summer 3 years ago so haven't bothered this year!

Speaking of weather, feeling really tired and woozy in this heat, could quite happily lie on the bed all day, no energy whatsoever. Had cup of tea and 3 choc biscuits but still not helped. Sympathies with those of you still working.

Bonzo again this movement malarkey drives you up the wall doesn't it! Yesterday, baby all over the place, today virtually nothing...

June babies some of our July babies are actually due this month!!! How is that for scary! Even scarier, is that DD1 (who was due 10th July) arrived 10 days from now...hope you've got your bags packed ladies!! dannyg any more news?

woollyjo · 01/06/2009 13:29

yes Quilted I have just realised that I am due in 27 days and if I have her after next sunday (37 weeks) she won't be considered prem!

Still got 3 weeks of work though and up to my eyes in it.

Mij · 01/06/2009 13:50

woolly you're cutting it even finer than me! I'm scheduled to start mat leave on 19th, when I'm 37 weeks, but with year end and major reports due there's no way I'm going to be able to finish then. DD was 6 days early, and I was still working (although had gone part time by then) so didn't get any proper ML, hoping the same doesn't happen again. Could really do with a couple of days in the house with DD at the childminder.

quiltedrose I also planted a load of veggies when DD was born in the heatwave 3 years ago and I think I managed to rescue the potatoes and rocket (although it still bolted), and fended the slugs off the courgettes for about a week, but then it all just died. My MIL wants to bring us some tomato plants, which is kind, but I keep trying to get it across that these days, I just kill things! Even last year, when I put in about two things, with only one child to look after, I still managed to kill the tomatoes.

My parents are coming up today to 'help' while DP is in Europe, and they will be a help, I know, but part of me can't face having to make conversation every evening when what I want to be doing is dozing on the sofa - how ungrateful is that .

thelollipoplady · 01/06/2009 15:32

How many of you getting painful BHs now? Mine are ouch and sharp - worse when rushing back from town to pick up DD1...

I think they get worse the more pregnancies you have - is that right? Hope they're not going to carry on like this for ANOTHER FIVE WEEKS!!!

dannyg · 01/06/2009 15:54

Hia all quick update, all ok so far no more plug & have been doing lots of resting, hopefully this little madam is staying put for now. Have midwife on Fri too shes gonna see is bubs is breech as at last visit she was not sure, Im hope shes not first son was breech and ended up having Ec-section, & have heart set on natual again x x
ps finding this heat a pain too

Phoenix · 01/06/2009 16:00

I'm so glad i've finished work already i don't think i could cope in this heat. All i seem to be doing is sitting on the sofa with the front door open keeping cool . My ML doesn't start for another 2wks though i'm on leave at the moment

We went to PIL yesterday and MIL greeted me with 'hello fatty, how are you?'

for veg patches. We haven't really got a garden (communal back garden and small paved front garden) to be able to grow veg's but we'd love to.

I am getting increasingly annoyed with my gestational diabetes. I'm getting very annoyed that i can't just eat what i want when i want and that just makes me want something all the more

We should def have some babies before June is out, i'm very surprised the june thread haven't had more before May was out.

Right i'm going to have one of the Jubbly's we bought from Asda this morning

OP posts:
xxhunnyxx · 01/06/2009 19:07

I really wish I had finished work last week, I had such a lovely long weekend, I just pottered around doing jobs, having a break in the sun with an ice cream, then a couple more little jobs, more sun and ice cream etc. Twas lovely n now I'm back in work and it's horrible, my hands, feet, ankles and knees are all puffy and I just wanna be sat at home relaxing...thank god I finish this friday! .

lollypop I was gettin painful BH a week or 2 ago but they seem to have eased off a bit now.

I think my LO is starting to make his way down, my bump is now tilting so that the top half is sticking out further than the bottom half and I feel like I'm about to get my period IYKWIM? Also bump doesn't seem to be quite so high anymore.

Beccabump · 01/06/2009 20:26

Hello Ladies

Hope you are all well in this lovely weather and not looking like the dripping, sweaty, elephant ankled lady like I am

We've just had our last weekend away before baby arrives and spent ages on the beach with the PIL's chasing DD around! I have somehow not burnt my bump too badly but I have burnt my armpits?????

Bump is huge now, very uncomfortable and heavy. Baby seems to still be head down and in a good position although he has taken to what feels like spinning on his head on my pubic bone - not nice with the SPD!

Got my next growth scan next week for the GD and to check the low placenta. Hopefully it will all be ok - eek!

Last ante-natal class tomorrow so will make the most of DD being in nursery all day for the last time in ages It is on bringing home baby so it will be a nice refresher!

Braxtons oh yes! No one told me how much stronger they are 2nd time around - to do with having to tighten the uterus a bit more according to the mw! Mine really take my breath away, not with pain but just such a weird feeling - very very tight!

Phoenix I totally feel for you with the GD and eating - I only manage my pregnancies by snacking and not being able to eat what I want when I want is driving me mad! I have been told I can have pudding so long as it is straight after my main meal so I am making the most of that - little bowls of ice cream etc. I have also found a drink that really sorts my sugar craving during the day - no added sugar tropical fruit squash made with diet lemonade (barely any sugar at all!) also grapes with my lunch seem to help

maternity-bags I have gone into total denial that this baby is coming out at the moment so am refusing to pack my bag

xxx

LargeGlassofRed · 01/06/2009 20:28

hi all, felt so big and uncomfortable today the babies are really low which is making me waddle.
I'm going to try and go swimming this week with the kids, getting swollen now and its suppose to help with fluid retention.
I'm 35 weeks now and the thought of going another 5 fills me with dread, I'm seeing the midwife on friday so I'm going to see when I can have a sweap as I had them with the other 3 and they worked each time.

Feel so sorry for those still at work, I worked till my due date for ds and dd1 and the last weeks drag.

Hi everyone. We all seem to be in the same boat with the heat today. I hardly spent any time outside at all today, went to collect the kids but felt so weird, woozy and weak. Hope its not too hot tomorrow. I don't remember it being as bad with ds in July 2001, but I suppose I am that much older!!!

Going to have an early night tonight and hopefully feel better in the morning.

plot 2 and Gillyan have you seen on the pregancy forum there is a really good post about c section birth plans. Its quite old but quite near the top, I found it useful as its my first time.

Praying for a cooler day tomorrow!! x

ilikeyoursleeves · 01/06/2009 21:35

Thanks for the updated list Phoenix, it looks a lot more manageable now! BTW I'm having a boy if you want to add that the next time you update it?

I think the weather is meant to cool off again tomorrow, I do love the sun but today was soooooooooooooo hot! Can't wait to leave work- 3 weeks to go!

Am I the only one who hasn't even thought about their hospital bag yet? I was going to do that once I stop work when I will be 35 weeks, do you think that's too late? I will also need to pack one for DS as he and DH are going to spend a few days at SILs when I am in labour / in hospital (SIL will have DS overnight if we are both at the hospital at night). I also need to do a few other things:

  • sort out old baby clothes, wash and iron
  • tidy & organise DS's room (he will share with baby)
  • buy DS a toddler bed
  • pack hospital bag
  • start massaging my nether regions (when do you start that?)
  • start RLT tablets (and when should that start? I can't remember!)
  • clean house to a half decent standard
  • stock up on newborn nappies etc
  • buy new mattress for moses basket
  • buy moses basket bedding

What else should I be doing? I feel so disorganised!
