Mickey R u ok? OMG what a nightmare...glad u managed to get off work ok. At least your boss hasn't added to your stress.

Christiana I haven't had anyone measure or weigh DS since he was 2 (he is 4 in July) and DD hasn't been weighed in months (she's 2 in 2 1/2 weeks). I guess I will just wait for her 2 yr check up to see if all is ok. Mij do you get to see your HV regularly? They dropped the 8month check up here a couple of years ago and I think they may just about still do a 2 yr check up (which is literally a weigh in nothing else). I have to work under the assumption that all is well.

Gillyan it is really good that you are being seen too. Are you feeling stressed too? Maybe that is adding to the weightloss? Also how are your hips. Have you tried any yoga? Thanks to Christiana's recommendation, I have been doing the Shiva Rea DVD about 2-3 times a week and it has really helped my hips. If I am feeling sore/stiff I do the DVD and really notice it helps. And there is a relaxation segment to it. Not that I have had time to do that part of the DVD w/my little terrors.

Plot2 I am with you on the lack of energy...hope you plant your seeds in time.

I'm feelin much better today, I took a Piriton last night and it knocked me out and I slept like a baby. I've not been taking them cos they make me so tired when I'm in work but hopefully if I take them at night they should build up in my system and hopefully hayfever should get a bit better so sinus pain should ease off. Well that's the plan, fingers crossed!

I keep gettin bump pains, not sure if it's BH or baby just gettin big and pushing his bump out. In the past I could never feel anything when I was walking around but I think I just gave a woman a bit of a fright in Sainsburys when I grabbed my bump with a ''ooooooo''.

I've not even got children yet but the whole ''they should be this size'' or ''they should be able to do this by now'' stuff really annoys me. Children all develop at different stages, I know somebody who had triplets so they all had the same diet, upbringing etc but hey were all completely different, one would be walking but not talking, another talking but not walking etc. As long as they are happy and healhy that's all that matters.

I've just found out that one of my friends is pregnant, I'm really happy for her but for some really bizarre reason I kinda feel a bit jealous . I really don't understand why tho cos obviously I'm having my own baby and I'll be holding him in my arms in a few weeks. Very strange.

Hi Everyone,

Hope i'm not too late to join you all - i've been lurking for a while but never got round to posting.

I'm due on 1st July with my second boy. DS1 is 7 in a couple of weeks so i'm a bit out of practice with the whole baby thing but am hoping it'll all come back to me

xxhunnyxx · 20/05/2009 15:59

Welcome pippa and moodylou

krumbockmummy · 20/05/2009 16:08

Hello pippa congrats on the 1st baby, hope all is going well.

Been Having BH, i think never had any with first baby. they are getting really uncomfortable, waking up at least 4 times a nite, either pain or heart burn (gaviscon is a life saver)

Lil sister has been trying for baby unsuccessfully, she has doc app on thurs. Hoping all will be ok but relieved she hasnt got preg yet. she will make a great mother but her boyfriend!! He hates the mess, the noise, he will not like the idea of becoming 2nd best. I dont trust him with my dd, he hides and tantrums like a small child. Its his idea to have a baby been on about it for a good year and half she only came off the pill 8mths ago. whole family doesnt like it but cant really tell her not to she is 20 yrs, has own home, good job, savings and been in the reletionship for 3 years. but i have really bad feeling that she will get preg and he will run.

Sorry for rant!

Have everything for baby now, so excited.

Hi all and welcome to then newbies!

I just had a shower and while I was in there, my calves suddenly tightened up and felt really swollen - what's that? is it normal? Freaked me out a bit... I'm now out and they have softened up a bit. maybe it was the warm water?

Off to last antenatal class tonight, topic is breastfeeding so a bf counsellor will be doing the session, am v interested to hear all about it. Bf'ing in general sounds soooo complex to a first timer - what with expressing and emptying one boob before going to the next for the next feed etc.. Crikey!!

Ok have a nice eve...

LargeGlassofRed · 20/05/2009 19:31

HI all thanks for all the positive bump comments

Went for growth scan and consultant appointment on Monday. Both boys still on track at around 3llb 10oz, and head down.
Didn't see the consultant again just one of his tribe, went through my birth plan but the doctor kept going on about hospital protocol

She then went of to speak to my consultant and came back and dictated a letter to me and my gp saying basically I was going against hospital advise.

I feel like a right rebel.
She then said a meeting would be arranged with the head of midwifery so I could go through the birth plan.

Names - really finding it hard this time. I really like stanley but haven't got another name yet, and dp not keen.

Gillyan · 20/05/2009 19:55

Welcome to pippa and moody

missp Hips were bad last night but not night before so it's a bit on and off. I'mjust ending up getting up early and sitting ont he sofa then nodding off in the day when DD is at nursery, propped up on the sofa with cushions and feet up is quite comfy. Thanks for the yoga tip.

Went to the doc and she done blood/urine/stool/BP and said basically baby will be fine but i'm suffering.

I have got an ear and throat infection too but she said it was up to me wether I have anti biotics or not. Cos they make me sick she doesn't want me loosing any more weight so I've not bothered. She said I shouldn't of had an upset tum for so many wks and if anything I should be constiapted. We'll see what the test results show up! She said eat anything - doesn't matter what as long it's calories! DP bought home 3 packs of biccys - Choc digestives, ginger nut and rich tea - hmmmmmmmmm. He made me tea of salmon, mash and veg too so I have actually eatne something good. I just wouldn't of made it myself and he isn't the greatest of cooks - literally beans on toast is the maximum of his efforts usually!

My best friend has offered to babysit on sat so me and DP are going to the Trafford Centre for a nice meal then to watch Angels and Demons! So looking forward to it!

I'm having quite powerful BH this time - didn't really notice them last time - my body is so preparing for labour. I bet you guys anything I end up going for it and not having a section!

lydia meant to sa, sorry about the business. Hope you have some time to chill though!

DD felt the biggest kicks from baby today and her little face was a picture! She's never really felt them before and she just pretends she has.

I'm off for a lovely long soak in the bath

QueenFee · 20/05/2009 20:03

plot2 My DD has a welsh name (Cerys) and I thought it would be nice with DS to have another welsh name. So I got a welsh name book out of the library and OMG if you want to shock DH trie some of tose I found them pretyy much unpronounceable even after learning welsh for 2 years! (apart from the more widely used ones such as Dylan and Rhys that is) We ended up with Finlay so maybe we should call it something irish this time to have the hat trick.

Eviebear don't worry too much about brestfeeding. Once you start some of those things just become obvious. The best thing you can do antenataly is go along to a BF group so you see it done - it all makes more sense then. My advise to new mums is when in hosp (if having the baby in hosp) is to ask for help and more help and get the MW to show you how to do it as opposed to them doing it for you. That way you will feel better equiped when you get home.

newbies hello

Lgor what have you said was against hosp protocol - sounds utterly ridiculous to me.

I am starting to tire now and finding everyday things much more difficult. Roll on 6 weeks and 5 days! I am really impatient nw to actually have this baby in my arms.

LargeGlassofRed · 20/05/2009 20:14

queenfee

Have asked for no epidural
no hormone drip until after birth of second twin
intermittent monitoring only
no breaking of waters
no holding internally of externally of the second twin.
and to be able to feed and have skin to skin contact immediately.
not to unreasonable I don't think.

breast-feeding I really found local breast feeding groups excellent I only did it with number 3, so wish I had gone with my first, I learnt so much.

Any one else really hungry? I can't stop eating

Phoenix · 20/05/2009 20:28

Evening all

Gillyan - Enjoy your long soak in the bath. I've found laying soaking in the bath (or just laying on my back full stop) is making me feel a bit breathless these past few days. Hope the tests come back ok

I've just ordered a travel cot mattress. I came accross it accidently, i didn't know they made such things. Once ds was too big for his moses basket we used the travel cot in our room and are planning to do the same again this time but i was worried about the crappy mattress that's in the travel cot so a proper mattress for a travel cot is just what i wanted

OP posts:
QueenFee · 20/05/2009 20:50

lgor Sounds reasonable enough to me. In fact what most people would like with singletons so don't relly see why it should be any diff with twins. All you are really asking for is a natural birth!
phoenix I got my mom one for the travel cot she uses at her house and it is soo much better.

chellebelle · 20/05/2009 21:06

Welcome newbies!woolyjo DS2 was 10 days late and 10lb 14 so that blows the sonographer's theory right out of the water. It doesn't even make any sense! The longer they're in there the heavier they will be when they come out so if they're early they are smaller surely??

Mij my DD is 3.2 and is only just going into 18-24month clothes, she wasn't little born (8lb 12oz) but is just a slow grower and obviously is taking after DH's side of the family - my SIL is about 5ft3ish and a size 6 and really struggles to put weight on. The HV was worried initially but as I've explianed that DH's side are small they seem fine with it. The mega bonus is that we don't have to buy clothes for her half as often as I had to for DS1! DS2 seems to be going a similar route so will have to see what happens with DD2.

Eviebear I agree with Queenfee don't worry about it, it is officialy what our bodies are made for and with practice and good advice it's becomes second nature.

Gillyan I heard that BH's are supposed to be worse and more frequent with each subsequent child which may explain why you're getting the this time and didn't wiht your first.

Am so, so busy this week - it's my mums 60th this sunday and she's having a whole weekend of stuff to celebrate - extended family meal with aunties and uncles, cousins etc on Saturday lunchtime, massive party with ceildh and hog roast saturday evening, then lunch here with my sister BIL and nephew sunday lunctime, which involves me and my sister doing a load of stuff to help out - decorating and organising room and tables and chairs, and overseeing the whole evening including caterers etc (bearing in mind I'm 31weeks today and my sis is 23weeks!). It'll be fine though . Don't get me wrong, I really am happy to do it, but flippin heck it's knackering! All the prep is going well though so far, so just need to start thinking about getting stuff sorted for our holiday that we leave for on Sunday evening! Not going anywhere special, just a caravan in Cornwall for a week but need to sort everything out and get everything packed. Hey ho, am off to finish of the birthday banner. Hope you all enjoy your evenings!

LargeGlassofRed · 20/05/2009 21:07

queenfee Exactly thats my thoughts my other 3 were all quick and straight forward.
Both girls born at home with dd2 in a fab pool, would have loved to do that again [sigh]

mickeylou · 20/05/2009 21:18

Hiya, lovely midwife was really good today. she said i feel like crap because of the urine infection and i now have antibiotics as well as iron tablets to take.

baby was doing great though

apparently my abdominal muscles have separated because when i get up from lying my bump goes into a peak shape. i didnt realise that was odd. it did it last time too. mw said DS must have done the damage as he was so big and i should have had physio after he was born. she is now referring me to the physio at the hospital so it gets sorted this time. apparently if it doesnt get fixed i will have a pendulous stomach no matter how much weight i lose! sounds gorgeous doesnt it?!

oh and this should give you a giggle. silly lady behind the counter actually told me to be careful as anti biotics can affect the pill

mickeylou · 20/05/2009 21:19

counter in the chemists that is.

Phoenix · 20/05/2009 22:05

Oh Mickey my bump does that too, i didn't know it was anything wrong either.

OP posts:
QueenFee · 20/05/2009 22:18

lol mickey at that woman how funny!

my sister has that problem - there was a thread on here about it a while back I can't remember properly but it was called rectus diastasis or something similar. She has had it since her 1st. Physio has helped a bit (reduced it from 2 inch gap to one) but she will need an op when she has finished her family to sort it properly. I think she has quite a bad case of it though. My bump does that and they have never commented on it I hope the MW was wrong x

QueenFee · 20/05/2009 22:20

activity i always though silvery ones were old ones?? have they appeared during your pregnancy? i didnt have a mark on me until about 36 weeks last time then i got some small red ones (almost like veins)right down the middle of my bump. they did look worse when bump was gone and i have that crepe effect now that they have faded. just think i was unlucky as neither of my sisters have a mark on them but my mum has. i have been slapping on the bio oil this time around in the hope of staving any more off.

sounds like we might all be off to the physio then to sort out our abdominal walls! thanks for the link queenfee - quite fancy the idea of a tummy tuck - extreme makeover style!!

i have a scan on tuesday to check whether the placenta has moved out of the way. hoping it hasnt so i dont have to take on the consultant about a c section.

hope you all have a good day. xx
