Hi all

Definitely have sympathy with your heartburn JetLi I now keep a large bottle of Gaviscon by the bed so I don't have to come downstairs in the night. Mine starts about 6pm and I feel really 'bleurgh'!

Last time I definitely took DS3 into the shower room with me at the hospital in his cot. I seem to remember using the cot a bit like a walking frame!!
The time before (at a different hospital) they had a special key system on the cot that meant if the key wasn't in and the cot was wheeled near the doors of the unit an alarm went off. They were also very strict on babies had to be taken around the unit in their cot rather than carried. So presumably if you went for a shower you took the key rather than the baby - can't really remember what I actually did though!

Not really into all this stretching and perineal massaging - although as it's DC4 I suppose everything is well stretched already

I know I'm a bit slow , but this week (week 34 for me) I've been hit by the 'OMG I've got to give birth to this' and been putting some serious thought into what I would ideally like to happen/not happen at the birth. Aaargh!

So tired today!!

I had a phonecall last night at 9pm from my friend sounding really distressed. Her hubby had been watching the kids at home whilst she was at pilates (the only 'her' time in the week). He had somehow been messing around, jumped up in the air forgetting he was in a doorway and had cracked his head. She'd had a phonecall from him to the leisure centre saying 'I've hurt my head, the paramedics are on the way, come home' end of call! When she got home the rapid response was there and he was looking ok except for a nasty cut on top of his head. Then his BP went high and they had to give him some oxygen for the shock and decided he needed to be seen in hospital! He got taken off in an ambulance as I arrived. She was a wreck (understandably) so I helped her out, then we had to wait for the ambulance to get to the hospital before we could find out what was happening! The hospital is 50 mins by ambulance so it was a long wait. She managed to get her DD1 to bed and her DD2 was already asleep luckily. About 12pm he rang to say he was ok, hed been x-rayed and they would release him after he'd had the wound glued. She then had to drive to the hospital and back (70 mile round trip) so he could come home!! I stayed at the house (with the kiddies in bed!) watching a lot of Family Guy on the sofa. Once they were home and ok I came home myself and got to bed at 3am!!

Had mw appt this morning and she told me I looked a little tired!

Good news otherwise is all is good with baby, hb fine this morning and bloods doing ok (note to self - sweet chilli dip is a dumb idea!). I am off to ante-natal class this afternoon - we are doing labour this week aaargh!! Really don't want to be thinking about it yet but there we go

Mw was very positive about my homebirth as last time I had the induction drip (syntocinon/oxytocin?) and still managed with just gas and air - she says I'll be good with the pain control this time if I can go naturally into labour

scully · 19/05/2009 12:33

What a pity I missed you were awake Jet I'm in Australia so I often post when the UK sleeps Both dd's were born in UK, so this is my first 'local' baby
What a night Becca, hope your friend's dh is ok. Good the that m/w is positive about your homebirth.
Idiotic comment Christiana People clearly don't think before they open their mouths....
I saw your comments on the other thread Gillyan, are you feeling any better?
My 3 day working week is suppose to start tomorrow, but I've had a cold since Sunday and am seriously thinking about not going in tomorrow. I'm feeling better but not 100% still and as I haven't had a sick day during the entire pregnancy, I'm thinking I might not go in tomorrow. Will see how I feel in the morning but it's very tempting to give myself another day at home.......

JetLi · 19/05/2009 13:14

So sorry about your friend becca - I started off horrified and then was sniggering when you said what the MW had said to you about looking tired
Then I was sniggering even more at christiana
Then I stopped sniggering when I somehow launched a full pint of water across my desk, across cables, power leads, 2 PC mice, and a power extension block. How I managed not to bloody electrocute myself and cause a full power cut to the buidling is anyone's guess. All I had by me was a new Little Lamb bamboo nappy which had arrived in the post this morning - by gum they're absorbent little blighters !! Soaked up the whole lot, no bother!
Going to go and get myself a Tommy Tippee cup now as I am clearly no longer to be trusted with a big girl glass
Hi scully - hadn't realised you're in Aus! I also start a 3 day week from next week - can't wait

Beccabump · 19/05/2009 13:51

JetLi pmsl at your work mishap - sounds just like me at the moment - I actually shut my bum in a lift door the other day! Hope you have dried off now

How gorgeous are the Little Lamb Nappies! I want underwear made of it for myself, so soft and snuggly If you are thinking of going for Little Lamb as a nappy, have you looked at them on e-bay? Little Lamb actually have a shop on there and sell quite a bit cheaper than on their other sites and in shops

xxhunnyxx · 19/05/2009 14:01

plot2 sorry to hear you've had a bit of a poo time lately, but glad to hear you're now focusing on the little bundle of joy at the end of it

gillyan hope you're feeling a bit better today, I suffer with depression/get down easily too and defo think that having too much time to yourself doesn't help. I know that if I'm at home I just think too much and yes the horrible weather really doesn't help. Try and keep yourself busy, arrange to meet up with friends, see if there's any aquanatal classes or guided birth classes in your area etc.

Christiana at the rude cow in the supermarket!

Good news - my Dad has now got his own apartment and gets the keys on Tuesday . I'm really excited about getting my house back to myself and then the nesting can really begin

I'm bloody knackered today, I woke up at 4am with ear ache (caused by my hayfever) and then I didn't get back to sleep until about 6.30am and then I have to get up at 7.15am .

baby names - we've now got 3 names we like, just wondering what people thought of them: Charlie, Lucas or Joseph?

woollyjo · 19/05/2009 16:18

My growth scan was a bit odd, had to go on my own as DH couldn't down tools at such short notice. Baby didn't like the scan at all and kicked and kicked and kicked, I felt quite battered after wards.

Baby is measuring 36 weeks instead of 34 so its not all fluid or position that is causing the big measurements but she is still within the 'normal' range so no big drama there.

The sonographer was very odd after asking what my job was (I work as a ranger for the forestry commission)she sad "well you haven't been doing much walking to produce such a big baby" well maybe not as much as when I was pg with dd but I am chasing after a 2yr old as well. This was followed by "well you have been looking after yourself well and eating well" hmm I don't know what is normal but I've put on 10kg since I was 8 weeks which seems to be all bump and boobs.

Maybe some women find her helpful I just wanted her to shut up and do the scan!

Does anyone know what the implications date wise are now I am definitely bigger than I should be? My MW is on leave for 2 weeks so can't ask, the sonographer wouldn't say a final size estimate only that baby is more likely to come earlier than later but not necessarily.

I guess what I really want to know is

1 will I get to go camping in 3 weeks time
2 will I get round to planting the courgettes on the allotment
3 should I pack a bag now as I am only allowed a home birth if I go past 37 weeks.

JLo2 · 19/05/2009 16:35

Difficult to say woollyjo but I do know that dating a baby is not as reliable now as it was when we were about 12 weeks, that is why they do a 'dating scan' then. After that apparently the scans can be as much as two weeks out. Your scan could just mean your baby is a bit bigger than average NOT that it will come any earlier.
Not sure if that is what you wanted to hear or not

lydiathetattooedlady · 19/05/2009 17:54

hi everyone, just doing one of my quick random check ups whilst at my dads! since last time i was on my mum haas decided to shut the business, has made me very sad as i do love being in there! on the plus side ive been stashing lots of wool to knit up whilst on materity leave! will be finished in about 2-3 weeks so ill be about 35 weeks not too early i hope!
everyone i know who has been pregnant are all popping their babies out including my older sister, they've all been 2 weeks early so now im convinced ill be the one who goes 2 weeks over!
bumpsize as usual the comments are still coming about mine, the last one today as i was leaving work was from a fellow shop owner next door who thought i only had a week left and her face droppedwhen i said 8! im so uncomfortable i cant paint my toenails, shave my legs, although dp has offered to give me a ahem...trim downstairs...what a suprise!
changebag i got mine from pink lining, it was meant to be 80 got it for 40 and it can change from a messemger bag to a rucksack, perfect for sling wearing!
i keep being given conflicting advice too from midwife and consultant re:birth. consultant says he wont induce no matter the size unless i go over, midwife said they would induce if scan shows baby is big, but i didnt think they had the facilities to induce at a birth centre? oh well hope you're all well im off to get an indian take away yum yum!

QueenFee · 19/05/2009 20:34

Hi all
The only comments that I am getting re bump at the moment is gosh it's grown over the weekend ( well yes...)
I have packed my bags now so super prepared after the weekends contractions just in case. Put DHs mind at rest anyway. I have also written my birth plan. (which I believe to be a joke but hey the midwife wants it filled in so I will be a good girl)
They will induce me early for a big baby but only due to my previous tears IYSWIM so I guess it's not routine to do so.
Must pop on to that June thread and have a read - this bubs may arrive in June after all!
hunny glad your dad is finally off to his own place - enjoy your nesting. Love all 3 names if I had to choose I would call him Joseph out of those. (not that I have a boys name for mine yet...)
Perinial massage my DH is keen we try it but the 1 time we did it hurt like hell and I would rather just tear than put up with that pain for weeks before.
My gaviscon bottle is nearly empty. I must make app with the dr for some more. Mine always starts when I'm hungy (so a lot then !)

Phoenix · 19/05/2009 20:41

Hunny - Glad your dad is moving out and you can start planning. I love all your names too, we had Joseph as a possible middle name for this one (which i still prefer but dh wanted Rhys as a first name and i don't so i'm allowing that as his middle name )

activityapple it's me who suffer with sinusitis a lot and I'm also suffering at the mo . I usually get it around this time of year when my hayfever starts, my usual trick is lots of Sudafed and Ibuprofen but obviously we can't take either.
At the mo I'm sniffing Olbas Oil and taking paractamols but it doesn't seem to be working. The Olbas Oil only clears the nose and head but my pain is more in my ears/cheeks/jaw etc. I was actually a bit naughty today and took some decongestiants, I googled it and the reason they recommend that u don't take it in pregnancy is because it can raise your blood pressure but I figured a couple can't do too much harm. If you happen to find any wonderful cures please let me know.

Misspaella · 19/05/2009 21:53

Woolyjo so glad the scan went well....I had my growth scan today too and they did say that it doesn't change your due date, just adjusts the size for dates IYSWIM.

Thankfully mine went well too. Baby's head/tummy is measuring 33 weeks (which I am) but for some reason with the infamous tape measure I still measure 2cm smaller for dates. The consultant couldn't explain why but that the scan over rides this discrepency. He says it could just be the way I am carrying. The baby (according to the scan) weighs about 5lbs 5 oz so definitely not small. Such a weight off my shoulder. I was freaking out last night.

Christiana I hate the small bump comments too. It really does feel as if you are doing something wrong. What is it about pg that makes us 'public property' to comments and touching. ARRRGGH

Hunny I am glad that you will get your place back to yourself.

Everyone else, hi and glad that some of you are winding down at work.

Better go and eat some ice cream - to soothe the heartburn of course.

dannyg · 19/05/2009 21:57

Hiya i also had sinusitis a few months back which turned into an infection and needed antibiotics, but before then called nhs direct because my face hurt so much. Nurse advised plenty of fluid and paracetamol, a cold or hot compress on the face depending which you find works best, head over steam bowl if poss every couple of hours and to blow nose gently. she also said to avoid bending down as this causes more pressure on the sinus's. Hope everyone is ok and dealing ok with the ups and downs of pregnancy. Im looking forward to when we all start posting the i think im in labour ( very exciting).
well 8 weeks to go now & 4 more days left at work too cant wait x x

scully · 20/05/2009 00:58

I won't complain about my cold anymore, sinusitus doesn't sound fun at all
Panadol wasn't helping with the cold symptons so I can imagine they do nothing for that either.
Did decide to stay home today, it's pouring rain here and a nice day just to potter and get over this properly.
4wks of work left after this week, although it's not a busy or stressful job, I am over the routine of going in, I think, just reached that point this week.
Cooking pea and ham soup for dinner tomorrow night (I cook meals ahead of time on the days I work), rainy weather and a high of 19deg (not cold I know, but cool for here, compared to our summers), it's nice soup weather this week
Good to hear the scans went well.
Bet you're looking forward to nesting hunny I like all 3 names, probably Charlie the most, although I also like that for a girl as well
I found another name book yesterday, in the bag of baby clothes I was sorting, starting looking at it last night, but didn't get far, think I need to see the baby before I get motivated

JetLi · 20/05/2009 01:12

Here again then.... Roast chicken and salad for tea which I don't think was an acid-inducing thing to have ?? Bummer.
Glad the scans went well wooly and missp - never trust the tape measure eh?
Sinusitis doesn't sound nice ladies - I have gotten a morning nose bleed every week throughout the pregnancy, but thankfully nothing any worse than that - you have my sympathies.
Antenatal School again tonight - "Coping Skills" apparently - not sure who will need it more; me or DP.

JetLi · 20/05/2009 02:01

Hi becca - pmsl at you trapping your bum in a lift - I have swung around and barged a couple of people with the bump - lack of spacial awareness on my part
Thanks for the Little Lamb tip - hadn't realised they had an ebay shop. Will have a good look. I missed their freebie nappy in Real Nappy Week so was a bit gutted. So far I've got a bit of a selection of nappies - various brands and sizes. I'd originally intended to wait until baby came and then do a proper trial thingy, but have now developed some kind of bizarre fetish for the ruddy things in the same way as some women buy handbags or shoes
I'm very impressed with the bamboo nappy though - fancy a little thing like that soaking up a whole pint of water! I want a nice sunny day now so that I can get them all washed and dried outside in preparation.

Gillyan · 20/05/2009 07:29

Hi Guys

Glad you've got rid of your dad hunny

scans Glad things are ok - what stupid comments of the sonogropher - they should keep their mouths shut.

I am feeling lots better thanks Had a friend round yesterday with her little girl who is my DDs best friend from nursery, then another friend popped round in the afternoon - I fell asleep from 3.30 till 5pm!

My frined has bought me round her sex and the City boxset so I'm going to watch them one the days DD is at nursery. I always ened up doing jobs and stuff so going to stop now and really do nothing.

I'm feeling really faint and dizzy and have been full of a cold for weeks. I rang the hopsital last wk for some advice and the MW said to get my MW to check my BP and do a FBC Bloods to see if my blood pressure was low or I was anemic. I had the stupid MW who told me all the crap about I won't be allowed my planned section if I go into labour early. Anyway, thought to check my notes yesterday and she said my BP was fine and didn't do the blood test. It was 100/70 and has always previuosly been 120/80 - 130/80

I went really pale last night and thought I was going to faint - I also weigh half a stone less than I did 2 wks ago and haven't put on any weight at all. I might ring the MWs at the hospital and ask their advice.

Things are still great with me and DP and he's being a star at the moment.

Gillyan · 20/05/2009 09:16

Spoke to a lovely MW from my team on the phone this morning and she said that everything the other MW has said re not being allowed to have a section if I go into labour before the booked date is rubbish.

I've had a good moan about her anyway.

MW said to make an emergency appoint at docs to have a bit of an MOT done as I've had upset tum for weeks and weeks and loosing weight. She said they need to check my BP and do FBC onmy blood and stool and urine sample. My urine showed up as having nitrates init last thursday so MW had sent that off for MSU check too.

MW said as long as baby is moving it she should be okay.

She was great and discussed eveything that has been bothering me about c/s or no c/s and tears etc. Everything the pther MW should of done the other day.

We'll see what doc has to say, going at 9.40am

plot2 · 20/05/2009 09:55

Morning all

Gillyan sounds like you got through to someone who knows their job at last. Good luck at the docs hope you get all the answers you need and try not to worry.

hunny I like Charlie and Joseph, would like Charlie for ours but it doesn't go with our surname unfortunately.
We are really struggling to agree on a boys name. I want to have a gaelic option but spelt in an English way due to our roots and to compensate for very common English surname but dh thinks I make half of them up!!

Woolyjo and miss glad the scans went well despite stupid comments.

I was in second stage of labour last time when mw said I was having a 6lber so should be easy pushing, dd was 7lb 10 so what did she know!!! I also know people who had 10lbers and went past there due date so I don't think they can say because its big it will be early.

I'm with you on the will I get everything planted on the allotment in time. My back porch is full of seed raised plants ready to go out just don't know when I'll get the time (or energy!)

mickeylou · 20/05/2009 10:44

hi everyone - i spoke far too soon about how well i am feeling now. didnt feel right and threw up on monday night and nearly passed out on course yesterday (just went really hot and waffy).

still didnt feel myself this morning so have made an app with the mid wife this afternoon. my boss is being a star and doing my court hearings todays because i dont want to keel over in front of the district judge.

anyway about ten minutes after i called the doctors for a mw app the doctors called me to say that i have a urine infection (took urine at hospital at 28/29 week check) and they have a prescription for me for anti-biotics. i have noticed my wee has smelled funny (sorry for TMI) in the last few days.

i dont feel ill but just tired out and a bit weird like something is not quite right .baby very active so not really worried about her but guess its best to go see mw to double check.

Mij · 20/05/2009 12:08

Good news on scans everyone.

To add to the anecdotal evidence, DD was 6lbs 11oz and 6 days early, so definitely not doing the 'small = late, big = early' thing.

Bump size I'm just a weird shape (high and flat, iyswim!) so difficult to tell actual size, but that doesn't stop people saying I'm big/small/something else. Surely a large part of it has to be how each unique baby fits in each unique Mum - I'm tallish, wideish and so don't 'pop' out til late cos there's plenty of space inside!

However, my DD is now 'officially' too small. She's off the bottom of the centile range for any child and way outside her target range considering parental height. I'm not worried - kids grow at different rates after all and her grandparents/great grandparents all had short genes, but I'm now regretting getting her in the system right now. Why couldn't I have waited a couple of months? D'oh! I'm now going to be forced to talk to HVs, which I usually avoid at all costs.

Plot you're doing veggies this year?! I've raised my salad but have thrown the towel in on anything except some carrots in a pot and possible a courgette or two, if I get around to it in the next couple of weeks. I had insomnia last time, just like now, and was up at 5.30am planting potatoes, but this time around I'm bloody staying horizontal despite being wide awake!

Scully I sorted all the clothes out weeks ago, having had them in a right old mess for years, but then people keep bringing me back stuff I loaned out and then forgot, which is now in a big heap of mixed sizes. Then DP and my Dad moved a load of shelves around, left the bags on the ground and DD had pulled half of them apart and was parading around the house in a motley selection of too big and too small stuff when I got home from work. I was steaming! Just when I thought I'd got organised!! Aaaggghhh!
