loobylou- sounds like a really stressful day. Good that you have a date for induction, so you can start preparing. You really should get signed off from work if you can, given your medical circumstances. And please don't worry too much if you end up needing a cs- i know with my first i was really worried when they said i needed to deliver DD in theatre with a spinal block in case they had to do an emcs and i was so relieved it didn't come to that, but after having an elective cs with DS it's really not that bad.

LoobyLou36 · 02/04/2009 22:50

I wish I was on ML but then again perhaps it will take my mind off things.

I really wanted to start labour naturally - raspberry leaf capsules here I come!

FiKelly · 02/04/2009 22:55

grrr at the registrar looby your hospital trip must have been quite a roller coaster.. hope you're feeling more used to the sudden change in birth plan now. just focus on the exciting fact that your baby will be in your arms on the 18th! just over 2wks to go

LoobyLou36 · 02/04/2009 23:02

so any tips on how to kickstart things?

Jennster · 02/04/2009 23:04

emmabemmasmom Obviously everybody is different and they measure your fundal height for a reason, but mine was 27cm at 29 weeks (10thC) 28 at 32 weeks and so was immediately sent for a growth scan, as that was off the chart. Growth scan measured me on the 50thC. Lord knows what it will be on Saturday when I have my 36week appointment.

Jennster · 02/04/2009 23:09

louby some people are not people people are they? Kickstarting labour? Nipple stimulation (I did a flicking type action with my thumbs and got such bad cramps I had to stop so it does work) Sex (with or without a partner ) as an orgasm counts as uterine exercise. Obviously an orgasm with a dose of semen is better. Pineapple I beleive has NO documented studies, but will probably make your mouth sore and the effect of eating so much will give you the runs....which can in turn start you off. Ermmmm reflexology?

LoobyLou36 · 02/04/2009 23:13

I'd better get my hospital bag ready then.

Another question: had a go at expressing in the bath earlier and only got a couple of drops If I do this every day I take it it will get easier and I'll get more out? I have 4 syringes to fill to take to hospital

Seeing MW tommorrow (was arranged before hospital visit today), and she's coming round on Sunday to go over birth plan with me and dh.

chocolatebunnies · 02/04/2009 23:19

Just a quick one from me tonight as Im knackard!

Just got home from 2nd 4d scan, baby is still fine, but measuring 34.5weeks and 5lb8oz and Im 32.6weeks, she doesnt seem to think I should worry, can I have your opinions please? I really don't know whether its ok or not? Baby weighed approx 4lb11oz last monday and weighs 5lboz today, is that not excessive????

Sorry some of you have been having a shitty time, will reply properly tomorrow.

looby when you say kick start things do you mean get labour going before the 18th? your about 35ish wks at the mo? from 36wks you can start the raspberry leaf tablets.. also jump your husband at every available opportunity as semen contains prostin which they use when trying to induce you. have read nipple stimulation after sex also helps prostin do it's job.. one book said to not move afterwards for a while and get your partner to play with your nipples as long as pos while you go to sleep if you want.

with my ds they tried inducing me for 3days.. nothing worked so i had the cs. if you're not ready then nothing will get you going i'm afraid.

LoobyLou36 · 02/04/2009 23:20

Right I'm off to bed - hope I can get some sleep

Starting raspberry leaf capsules tomorrow and DH may get lucky

night all x

FiKelly · 02/04/2009 23:28

off to bed also.. far later than I planned but watched a dvd with dh who is normally in bed v early as he's up at 5am..

pulapula · 02/04/2009 23:35

loobylou- i agree that if LO isn't ready to come then nothing can make it happen sooner- I took raspberry leaf capsules, had daily sex , ate a whole fresh pineapple (although i heard afterwards that you need to eat seven to get enough of whatever it is that is meant to help), I had a sweep (ouch), and DD was still a week late.

Also, it's best for baby to be born after 37 weeks when they are considered "term" and their lungs are better developed. I know you are worried about your LO and want a natural birth too, but if i were you, i'd aim for the induction on 18th April and plan around that. I have had friends who had very successful inductions (although they were overdue)- going in to hospital at 5pm and having the baby in the early hours of the next day. One pushed the baby out (water birth) in 3 minutes . Beats my 40 hours from start to finish and hours of trying to push...

llareggub · 02/04/2009 23:49

Looby I had a c-section with DS at 37 weeks and he was just a shade under 9 pounds. He was absolutely fine, and to be honest, I was fine too. I'd had my heart set on a water-birth, but once I had in my arms I didn't really care about that. What mattered was that he was with me (at last!) and although occasionally I think about what a natural birth might have been like, I look at DS and it just doesn't matter.

The registrar does sound like a cow, though. I thought it was pretty standard care for women with GD to get regular growth scans to monitor growth, as fundal height measurements aren't particularly accurate. It says on my green maternity notes that anyone with an "odd" fundal height measurement should be referred for a growth scan. I've had scans every 4 weeks and I have them just before my appointment so that my consultant can make an informed decision based on accurate information.

I am sorry you are feeling low about this. I did too in my last pregnancy. In lots of ways I think I was lucky that I was diagnosed so early with GD as it gave me time to get my head around it and what it might mean in terms of delivery, and as a result I think I'm OK with whatever happens. As it is, we'll be making a decision in 2 weeks time so if baby's growth has slowed, we may well be having our c-sections at the same time! They did talk to me about having a VBAC but I'm not sure if that is still on the cards.

Everyone else I'll have a good catch up tomorrow. Night all.

Momino · 03/04/2009 06:16

looby, hope you're feeling better this morning. i was so upset when they told me i should have an induction for dd1 at just under 38 weeks. i only had a day to mentally prepare as i was already in hosp. but got good attention from staff, was in hospital when labour happened so could plan better (and didn't worry about if waters would break in supermarket ). dd1 was 5lb10 so a bit small but very healthy. she prob could have done with a couple more weeks to grow but was absolutely fine and we went home just a couple of days later.

anyway.
couldn't sleep last night. baby awake all night. anyone else have an active night baby? maybe s/he was trying to get into position with my luck. will find out at mw today if still breech.

hope you all are well today.

Momino · 03/04/2009 07:03

also, some of you've lost your appetites and I have too. I can't ever think of anything I want to eat and now just eat for the sake of eating. even choc ice cream has lost appeal.

Momino · 03/04/2009 07:04

wonder how spangle and spanglet are doing . can't wait till we hear from her.

better go get girls.

LoobyLou36 · 03/04/2009 07:28

Morning all.

Didn't sleep much last night - had a row with DH too .
Have ordered my tens machine tho so made me think about getting things organised. Also spoke to my MIL about having DH daughter for the weekend as its out weekend to have her when I'm induced.
MIL started lecturing me about things and I nearly snapped at her but managed to keep myself in check (just ).
I know she was just trying to help but it really didn't.

At work now and wishing I wasn't

LoobyLou36 · 03/04/2009 07:28

looking forward to news/pic of spanglet

Morning!

Off to an Easter egg hunt this morning at pre-school. We have to take a cake for afterwards...I've got an hour to decide whether I should bake something or nip to the shop and buy something. I have the ingredients to make traditional welsh cakes which are dead easy and quick but not sure if I have the will! What to you reckon? I've no idea what the other parents are doing!

I guess I should and DS will love it. Now I have to lever myself the sofa...

llareggub · 03/04/2009 08:01

off the sofa, that is!

llareggub · 03/04/2009 08:02

Not sure that anyone will be able to commend me on my baking, however!
