Starting new thread ladies, in honour of Spangle.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

evening all.
frazzled, love Felix and would have considered it but it doesn't go well with our surname Whelan - we pr 'wheelan'. so Feeelix Wheeelan sounds wrong to me. I hope you use it though as it's a great name.

looby, you feeling better? relaxed now that MW has come to discuss? I don't know about expressing colostrum but it does sound painful and i'm not enthusiastic to try. besides, my friend still has my express pump [makes note to remind friend that I'm due to have a baby in 4 weeks so reeeally need the pump].

detsy · 05/04/2009 21:47

looby thanks thought it was half a pound which is more than enough thanks!! 4 - 5 packs of butter for me to cart about then

2 weeks - wow how exciting you could be no 2 to pop then (depends on blotted i guess at the mo anyway!!)

LoobyLou36 · 05/04/2009 21:47

off to bed now, just hope I can sleep

oh well only 4 more days at work

Momino · 05/04/2009 21:50

weight aside, about going back to a 'normal' body shape,i'm mostly worried about how this huge bump is going to deflate back to it's normal size. will there be a way to get rid of the flab/extra skin? can't afford a tummy tuck.

LoobyLou36 · 05/04/2009 21:50

hi momino yup am getting used to the idea of induction now. had a good chat with the MW which helped

night all.

frazzledoldbag · 05/04/2009 21:54

detsy I was wondering about your ring the other day. How upsetting for you to have lost it......perhaps it'll turn up one day somewhere bizarre? I lost my engagement ring for about 3 months when DD1 was little - still in her cot-bed and found the ring when I was turning her mattress. It was between the mattress and the slats of the bottom of the cot (IYSWIM). Is your new ring an exact replica of your old one or have you gone for something different? (oooh I love rings........and diamonds.......and platinum.......drools)

detsy · 05/04/2009 21:57

Momi don't think there is extra skin - its just stretched at the mo and will eventually go back where it belongs! Needs some TLC tho - I found wearing tummy support (like a girdle) really helped my tummy muscles. I think Jojo Mamam have started doing a tummy support feeding vest which I want to invest in this time. Last time I had a "faja" from Spain - literally a velcro type wrap round corset - really uncomfy and visible but worked for me! (I think!)

Which reminds me, has any heard from alapala she used to be a regular and not heard from her for ages?

Looby good on you for your positive thinking, you are inspiring me to be the same (may have to be induced at term as I'm 41, apparently) So thank you

llareggub · 05/04/2009 21:59

Momimo I read about some sort of post-pregnancy girdle that some people swear by. I've no idea what it is, but the idea is that you wear it for a few hours a day and it helps squish you back into shape. I only heard about it way after DS was born, have no idea what it is called, or whether it is safe or what! But it might give you something to google!

Personally I'm going to lay off the cake this time...

frazzledoldbag · 05/04/2009 22:00

Thanks all for the Felix feedback. Am just worried she'll thinking I'm 'copying' her - not sure actually if I'd be put out if it were the other way round and she used one of my names. `Hmmmm.
detsy guess you're right, this baby has probalby taken any remaining brain cells I had left As someone told me at toddlers on Friday you lose 5% brain cells with each baby so I'm 15% down on what I should be..........and I really feel like it too! durrrrrrrr

Off to bath and bed. Anyone else get itchy elbows/arms at 8-9pm every night or am I just a freak? Most odd I think. Night night all. Take care and sleep tight.x x x x xx x

detsy · 05/04/2009 22:03

Frazz they had a silver mount of my original ring at the jewellers so I could see it but I decided to go for something different - struggled with the emotional aspect of the change but hopefully will like the new one. Wanted something a bit more chunky, tactile and modern - my previous one was quite dainty. So this one kind of fits into a wedding ring (tho doubt i'll ever need one of those...!!) They are making it for me again and I went in the other day to approve the diamond they had got in for me. Its platinum and they are amking me a mould so I can see if i really like the shape etc on my finger (don't know what happens if not??)

flippineck · 05/04/2009 22:03

momino - did you not notice that in all the discussion of weight gain/loss I never once mentioned body shape ?!

Momino · 05/04/2009 22:04

oooh, really interested in a post preg girdle thingy. will check out the jojomaman one and will google as you suggest llare. looby, have a good night sleep. think about finishing work, a happy thought!

as for names - nothing, nothing sticks out. for girls, we have Harper and Honour but neither really 'grab' me. for a boy, we have Atticus (won't be brave enough for it though), Montgomery (Monty?), Cassius... but again not sold. In fact, I'm going to stop thinking about names until the LO arrives and then see what he/she looks like.

detsy · 05/04/2009 22:05

llare x posts re girdles. I'm off to google to see if there is anything in the UK yet - tho I have dug out my Spanish one

frazzledoldbag · 05/04/2009 22:07

ooh tummy support feeding vest sounds good. will need to google that tomorrow. (was lusting after the hotmilk feeding camisole silky black lacy thing but maybe tummy support is more useful.......?)
detsy I'm slightly baffled by the having to be induced at term because you're 41 idea. Could you not just see your midwife for more regular monitoring after 40wks if your risks are higher? Unless there is a specific reason to do it (or you'd like to be induced?) it does seem a bit over-cautious maybe......
blotted hope you're doing ok.
Night x

Momino · 05/04/2009 22:07

flippi, i'm going to worry about body shape next year (winking returned)!

pulapula · 05/04/2009 22:07

By the way, I went to john lewis today to hopefully get measured for nursing bras. They advised waiting until 2 weeks before due date as by then baby should have dropped and they can measure more accurately. So i just got another cheapo non-wired bra- just in a bigger size as mine were getting too tight. So i have gone from a 36A pre-pg to a 38DD. I know its nothing compared to some of you ladies, but i enjoy having something up top as i know it won't last after i've finished bf (or at least that's what's happened previously).

Momino · 05/04/2009 22:10

detsy, i asked my MW about induction after 40wks for age purpose (I'm 39 and 3/4)and she said she could understand if it is 1st baby for a mum 40+ but since this is my no. 3, they won't be pushing against my wishes.

frazzledoldbag · 05/04/2009 22:12

momino I have suggested Atticus, Harper, Monty and Cassius to DH in the past couple of days! We obviously have similar taste - (although Harper in our case would have been for a boy, I think it works for either). DH said no to them all but then he's Mr Scottish. Although surprised me by liking Milo!!! (which sounds ridiculous with our surname) and apparently he's considering Felix currently. I think it's a good idea to wait and name the baby when it is born but I feel I need a shortish short-list to work from otherwise the poor soul will never get named (plus I love names anyway). Am definitely going now. x

Hmmm interesting..... and soooo attractive

Belgianchocolates · 05/04/2009 22:16

I've seen some of those P/N girdles on eBay, you know. I was actually searching for a pregnancy support belt at the time. I think the evidence that they really work is little, but I think I'd quite like one just because they hide wobbly flabby tummy skin.

Body shape Lets not talk about the shape your your breasts afterwards. Just before I got pregnant with ds I had bought this lovely expensive bra and so I kept it for 'after I've stopped bf'. I was under the illusion they would go back to their original size and shape. What a dissapointment that was!

re hand expressing I think if it really hurts, then maybe your technique needs a little tweaking or you just need to squeeze a bit less. It does get better the more you do it. Until your milk comes in hand expressing is the most effective way to express. Many women think they'll get more off with a pump and usually they're surprised that it doesn't make any difference or that the contrary is the case. Pumps are better for when you get the good quantities.

detsy · 05/04/2009 22:20

Frazz agree about the induction - you missed my ranting posts when i saw the snotty registrar who siad I'd need to be induced, be continuously monitored bla bla bla. Going to see what happens nearer the time TBH and chat to my comm MW on tuesday this week. I thnk registrar had just finished his latest text book... pillock..

This is no 2 momi will see what my MW says but think dr had his facts wrong for my hospital and he had just transferred in from another planet.

I have to go to bed now, ciao bellas xx

Momino · 05/04/2009 22:20

frazzled, that is so coincidental [scary emoticon]. I do know other people who have both India and Saskia (dd1 and 2's names)... must be something about pattern of tastes .
would love to have an Atticus alongside any of the children born here. might be more brave to use the name if someone else does .

Belgianchocolates · 05/04/2009 22:21

frazzled I've been eyeing up that Hotmilk camisole thing too today. I've been checking what the biggest cup is I can have for a Hotmilk bra too. It's not looking good. I'm an E-F at the mo and the biggest cup Hotmilk does is an F. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't expand too much anymore

detsy · 05/04/2009 22:22

Maybe i'll pop to ebay first tho....

Momino · 05/04/2009 22:23

oh, I'm going to bed as well then. but only after some choc ice cream (for a sore throat of course!).

cue baby aerobics starting inside my bump just as I prepare for bed. has been quiet nearly all day. looks like another restless night. sigh.

have a good one ladies and see you tomorrow.
xx
