Starting new thread ladies, in honour of Spangle.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

And sorry, to clarify I have only actually 'met' this particular step-sister about 6 times in my life and have never even been to her house. (ok so yes, I know my family are weird)

Tummum · 05/04/2009 20:52

Frazzled I would go for it - Felix is a lovely name and they are distant enough for it not to matter.

detsy · 05/04/2009 20:55

Like Felix a lot - was on our list too. Don't think it matters a jot about the step sister's child whom you never see - why would it matter?

Interesting family too hey - I have 2 half brothers (whom I hardly ever see, one speaks if he sees me and his wife is lovely and bonkers so I really like her in a kind of half SIL way... They are older than me as I was a "lurrvee child" of the 60's. The other one makes a point of blanking me if he sees me - in fact he was at the races today with his nose in the air)

Mum then behaved herself for 19 years until she married my "stepfather" for want of a better word, and had 2 more girls who are now erm 22 and 19 btu I regard them as sisters and see them often. Families hey - fascinating!!

Worried about blotted hope she is okay

DP has some bloody bloody famous pianist on the telly and its driving me NUTS. But he has been a darling today and don't want to upset the apple cart by being a naggy cow and wanting to watch 1 years younger or some such crap....

detsy · 05/04/2009 20:58

HOORAY - the painist programme has ended

detsy · 05/04/2009 20:59

haha - typo for pianist but very appropriate

Tummum · 05/04/2009 21:00

Antiques Roadshow here Dets God - I'm getting old !!!

Tummum · 05/04/2009 21:01

Worried about Blotted too. Where is everyone tonight?!

flippineck · 05/04/2009 21:02

Hello all!

blotted - hope all ok with you and it's just a false alarm. Stay rested.

detsy - thanks for the Spangle update, it's good to hear her news.

I'm sorry to admit it, but I'm one of those dreadful people who lost all (and more) of the baby weight through breast feeding. Was back in pre-preg jeans wihtin about 3 weeks, and by 6 months (bfed for 16 months) was about half a stone less than pre-pregnancy. Sadly the extra half crept back on towards the end of BF though. So far this pregnancy I've put on 2 stone and a pound, about the same as last time, although I feel much bigger.

I am so tired at the moment, I'm sleeping really really badly now, it's not fair. We've had a good weekend though, just managed to get a load of baby jobs done - cleared space for the newborn clothes, got the moses basket sorted and washed all the bedding etc. And DD has loved the sunshine and been running around the garden like a little mad thing - hopefully she'll sleep well tonight!

LoobyLou36 · 05/04/2009 21:08

Evening ladies.

blotted hope you are resting

Had my MW visit at home today to go through birth plan with me & DH. Went through worst case scenario etc, I got a bit upset damn hormones

Belgianchocolates · 05/04/2009 21:11

Lol detsy. So true, luckily my dh would never ever watch a pianist programme, so that's not problem here. He's obsessed with film 4 though. Every night he wants to watch a film and I just want to watch something that ends at a decent time of night so I can go to bed early-ish. Normally I end up watching a documentary or CSI or something.
Thanks for the Spangle update. Spanglet being a touch early and therefore a touch smaller will make him a bit more susceptible to becoming jaundiced. We usually give 'longer term customers' a side room too.

Hope Blotted is OK now and that it really was just her plug. She hasn't been back on.

frazzled I think you should be safe with Felix.

Our barbecue was nice, except that we felt really guilty, because it turned out SIL did barbecue because she hasn't got a cooker yet in her new house! She invited us for next week, but dh will be at work and he suggested coming this week. She agreed, but if she'd told us about not having a cooker we would have changed to the week after easter instead or said that she needn't worry about feeding us. I'm still full from all that food. I did have 2 big slices of my bananacake after + a bakewell slice and a chocolate cake slice (but only the little Mr Kipling type ones)

Bump has been really uncomfortable today. It's been in the most awkward position. My favourite mat shirt has become stretched now too, rather than loosely skimming my bump I think my weight gain is slowly turning up a notch. I always seem to gain the quickest at the end, even though they say that the last few weeks is when you gain the least. I must be a special case.

Belgianchocolates · 05/04/2009 21:13

flippineck I lost my weight quite quickly too and blame bf too. I got to pre-preg weight during and then after I stopped I gained about half a stone. Very annoying.

bekkaboo · 05/04/2009 21:23

Hi does anyone know roughly how much weight gain is usual in the last 5-6 weeks?

frazzledoldbag · 05/04/2009 21:31

detsy yes, the step family thing is all a bit weird. I didn't get my steps until I was 25 when dad remarried after my mum died when I was 21 so it's not like we grew up together or anything. And I'm the youngest of the lot. I get on really well with my step-brother but don't see him often as he lives at the other end of the country too. My 2 step sisters are ok, the one with the Felix is the nicer / funnier of the 2 but we don't see her really at all (as I said). The other one lives nearby but I have so little in common with her (even tho she's only a year older than me and also has young kids) it's actually scary! Families are so weird. Hope my kids like each other when they grow up............

frazzledoldbag · 05/04/2009 21:35

La-la-la-la-la [fingers in ears emoticon] - am not even considering weight gain in the next few weeks. Far too scary. (although I think the baby puts on 1lb a week and this may be wrong but I think maybe women can sometimes lose a little bit in the final wks as it's difficult to eat very much) - I know this is what happened to me last time anyway. Really at this stage it's not a big deal is it?

frazzledoldbag · 05/04/2009 21:36

Acutally no, it can't be 1lb a week for the baby can it? Maybe I mean 1/2 lb a week, that sounds more reasonable. God, where have my brain cells gone? Where? Where? Anyone seen them?

detsy · 05/04/2009 21:39

I think its half a pound a week - hope so or I have a problem

Not worth worrying about weight now (or at any time in pgncy) not long to go and then it can be addressed if need be. Very much in favour of 9 months on so at least 9 months off - Davina McCall i think?

LoobyLou36 · 05/04/2009 21:39

Just thinking - 2 weeks from now I could have had my LO

Have been trying to express some colostrum - its quite painful and not much is coming out I assume if I try this each evening it should get easier and more plentiful?

llareggub · 05/04/2009 21:39

I found myself with a step-sister and step-brother at the grand old age of 32! I see my step-sister occasionally as she still lives with her mother and my father, but I've met my step-brother just a handful of times. To be honest, as we don't have a shared childhood or past, I only call them step-siblings to explain who they are, rather than bestowing any sort of love or affection, if you see what I mean. My step-sister is very lovely, but I hardly know her really.

llareggub · 05/04/2009 21:40

Re weight gain, I swear I grew in size massively last night! I feel huuuuuuuuge!

detsy · 05/04/2009 21:41

They have been munched by Felix thats where they are!

Never found my ring you know - tho did find my car keys and my security tag the other day.

Still on the upside - new ring being made which is quite exciting

pulapula · 05/04/2009 21:42

I have never got back to my original pre-pg weight (9st) but managed to get back to just over 10st after both my previous babies so will be happy to get back to that again, although i'm already nearly 13 st . I do tend to loose weight through bf even with the extra calories. However, I hate that post-birth period of still having a big tummy with lots of rolls - others might not be as bad as me as i do tend to gain a lot of weight during pg. If i get back to a size 12 within 6-12 months i'll be happy.

frazzled - i would use the name Felix if you like it- its distant enough not to be an issue. I wouldn't worry about the cat thing either- it didn't cross my mind.

For you others choosing names, I think Rupert is cute Llareggub and goes well with your DSs name. belgianchocs - I think Michael is a good classic name (you could have Mick, Mike, Mikey, Mickey etc etc as a nickname). I am biased though as my dad is a Michael/Mike.

We have now shortened our shortlist to just two - Oliver (Ollie) and Samuel (Sam). We basically dropped a name if one of us wasn't as keen as the other, so in the end, we are down to names that both DH and I like enough to have.

LoobyLou36 · 05/04/2009 21:42

MW today said baby gains about half a pound a week in final weeks.

detsy · 05/04/2009 21:44

llare welcome to the funny family club

LoobyLou36 · 05/04/2009 21:45

pula our short list has Samuel on it too
