Apparently a hot bath can raise your BP and potentially bring on labour (according to my MIL) but I'm not sure how convinced I am about her theory. I know that I should listen to her as she has over 30 years experience as a MW, but I'd rather just have the hot bath.

Swaliswan · 01/04/2009 22:11

I'm off to bed.

Night All x

SpringySponge · 01/04/2009 22:11

Ooh, OddEyes as well! Yay!

BB, I love that you're concerned about the burnt tongue

BoffinMum · 01/04/2009 22:12

The thing is, we have a long list of things that are supposed to bring on labour:

hot baths
pineapples
curry
certain beauty treatments
various aromatherapy oils
certain types of physiotherapy
sperm
random walks down corridors
etc etc

yet hospitals do none of these. Probably because none of them work. Instead they try:

sweeps
prostaglandin gel
syntocinon
etc etc

which doesn't work all the time either.

So the sad truth must be that very little works unless the baby wants it to.

Night Swali xx

Night Swaliswan xx

SpringySponge · 01/04/2009 22:14

Sperm does do something though, Boff. I've been pacing up & down in pain for a couple of hours now. & the baby actually DROPPED. As in just fell into my cervix. My God it hurt.

Whilst I'm not in labour & the contractions will stop (again - after the last 6 weeks of latent labour I'm not stupid enough to think that this is it), it really does do something.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/04/2009 22:15

i have my consultant appointment in 2 weeks time and as much as i want to be good and go natural i have been having sneaky "well if i'm at all ready ........maybe i could just let them induce me" thoughts creeping in.

please remind me to say no on the day!!!

OP posts:
SpringySponge · 01/04/2009 22:17

I know what you mean, Nutty. I know that inductions are quite controversial, but how much easier would it be?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/04/2009 22:17

sorry the sight of the words prostaglandin gel & syntocinon just hightened my naughty "well why not" thought process

Night Swali and Oddeyes

Oddeyes, my bathroom has walls!! There are 2 external walls and 2 stud walls - we just took the plasterboard off the stud walls so we have beams and the other side of the stud wall for privacy but technically we are two walls short and NO we do not have a second bathroom!

I can't get the pic up -Nutty feel free to upload if you know how to but I can't connect my phone to the computer! If not will take another photo tomorrow on my camera and then upload it in the morning!

Very quick update from my end and then I think I am going to head off to bed - not much more leakage but lots and lots of discharge - not bloody but brown and gloopy! (sorry if you are eating!!!) Slight back ache but that could purely be from the bathroom antics today, some tightenings but nothing painful so who knows!

Springy - I hate having a burnt tongue, tis very uncomfortable (I realise I am saying this with the potential of going in to labour!!!)

Oddeyes will def be before me! Go Oddeyes!!!

Will keep you updated via Kitty if anything happens tonight but am sure I will be here in the morning xx

night all xxx

BabyBolat · 01/04/2009 22:22

Springy, my MW says it is not the sex but the semen that does the job as it has the same hormones or whatever in it as the chemicals they use to induce you!

Funny that the one thing that gets you in this situation is one of the only things to get you out of it!!!

BoffinMum · 01/04/2009 22:23

Nutty, I just wanted to alert you to the fact my SPD has been a little better towards the end of the pg, and I have got my dosage right down. So there is a possibility you may improve towards the end. Finally getting proper physio and manipulation was probaby a factor here, as were hormones.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/04/2009 22:24

Good Luck BB & Night night xx the discharge sounds promising btw

OP posts:
BabyBolat · 01/04/2009 22:26

na night!!!

SpringySponge · 01/04/2009 22:29

BB, that sounds hopeful. Stay in touch!

& yes, it is the sperm If we have sex but he comes elsewhere, no effect. If I orgasm without any sperm, nothing. If only I'd stop having spermy sex

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/04/2009 22:31

it is 2 whole weeks , 14 days (which could be very looooooong) and i could possibly just skip them oooooohhhhh the temptation!!!!

knowing my luck of course they will say that i'm 100% not ready that's just my relationship with the NHS for you they deny me!!!

Boff - Talking of physio, had a phonecall today (well message on my phone as i was in bed) they want me to go back to hydro under a specialist hydrotherapist (?? rather than the underling i was seeing presumeably??), i really dont want to but am going to have to call them back tommorow (i have to rebook my proper physio appointment that i cancelled on monday due to being dead after A&E escapade) i just know they're going to convince me to go again under the "but it will be better due to specialist hydro bod" gahh.

I may be being a bit unreasonable here but i just want to be left alone now. every physio & hydro leaves me screwed for 2-3 days after and they always say ooohh we dont know what to do for you and fiddle around and make things worse.

OP posts:
SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/04/2009 22:36

Springy - could you not harvest his sperm and just baste occasionally

OP posts:
gingersarah · 01/04/2009 22:41

Nutty, they can't make you do the hydro. you have enough experience to know what to do and I think you are going to have to be assertive.

It amazes me that the very people who are supposed to be experts sometimes don't seem to be alive to the possibility that they are asking you to do something very difficult that will have a big knock-on effect. I toiled upstairs after my physiotherapist at my first appointment, although there was a lift it didn't occur to her to use it and I didn't like to ask - those days are over, having been confined to a tiny radius for days after that indiscretion.

so tell them! They don't know if you don't tell them (apparently). Good luck.

gingersarah · 01/04/2009 22:44

FreshHell, thanks for the brilliant birth story - complete with ring around poor stuck head! A very touching detail.

Right, I'm off to bed now - it's goodnight from me (and goodnight from, erm, it)

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/04/2009 22:47

Ginger - thats the thing i have told them that the hydro isnt doing any good (i think just from the getting in and out of the pool) i think i will just have to say no though.

Night Night x

mathsmummy27 · 01/04/2009 22:53

BB and OddEyes - I am waving pom poms for you DESPITE it being MY due date tomorrow...

And could you please have the courtesy people to not break waters during the Apprentice! I disappear for an hour and a half and miss the action fgs!

So exciting though

SpringySponge · 01/04/2009 22:54

Well I could, but it'd be all of the pointless pain & none of the fun

Night Ginger xx

BoffinMum · 01/04/2009 22:55

I had to stop hydro as it nearly killed me attending the appointments, getting undressed and dressed, getting in and out of the pool and so on.

The only things that has worked for me is the massage. It hurt at first but there was a rapid improvement.

I was told this would work early on, but couldn't persuade anyone to do it for me for 3 months.

SpringySponge · 01/04/2009 22:55

I love The Apprentice. That bloke talking about how he was hurt as if his cat'd died?! Excellent

Are you feeling close to labour then, MM?
