Febes · 13/03/2009 20:46

Hi everyone. We had our antenatal class last night, the one and only being second timers. It raised a slight dilemma- St heliers is under reconstruction due to a midwife led unit being built there. It won't be ready before May. I had DD at St Georges, we have since move but it is still only about 15mins away if there is no traffic. When We had DD St Georges was building their MLU and it wasn't finished in time for me but as I had an epidural I wouldn't have been able to use it anyway.
So do I carry on and give birth at St Heliers or go to lovely (?) MLU at St Georges. I would love to have a water birth this time and and feeling positive about going ahead without an epidural (hoping for quicker labour and love G & A). I have been happy with St Heliers so far and it is only 5 mins away by car. I think I will visit both and make a decision in the next few weeks.

divedaisy · 13/03/2009 21:33

Febes - visit both as see how you feel then!

Fi - great news on your flat! I think you're doing the right thing in accepting the offer and then seeing what else there is and haggling for a bargin! Good luck. I only wish someone would come and view myhouse - on the market since Oct 07 and NOT ONE VIEWER! ANyway it's a good thing we're happy wnough to stay put - we built this house ourselves 14 years ago.

Jael - honey that sounded very scarey especially since they don't know why it happened. Take things very easy from now on!

Alapala - Oh I did laugh at your banana!!!! We've been talking bananas here for night-time cramps, but from now on I don't think I will eat one with such gusto!!! Very very funny!! Anyway - glad you had a lovely holiday.

I've been researching spa hotels tonight cos my mum has offered to take me and my sis to one, even for one night!!! Oh sheer bliss! I want to go tomorrow!!!

I'm going to bed NOW, cos sleep disturbance is really catching up with me. DH is on his way home from the shop and phoned me, so when I said I was going to go to bed he offered to bring me up a cuppa and a chunk slice of birthday cake!

divedaisy · 13/03/2009 21:34

And I'll update the list tomorrow when I'm abit more alert! If someone else want to do it tonight - feel free xx

Belgianchocolates · 13/03/2009 22:16

Actually grumpy Jamie Oliver was on Radio 1 this morning for Red Nose Day and he was talking about his wife who's due in 2 weeks. Apparently she's got a craving for chewing the tops of pens and has bought a giant box of pens just so she can chew the tops! That reminded me of you and your sponges.

Jael · 13/03/2009 23:21

Just logging on before bed. I'm ok now thanks for all your messages, I'd feel even better if I knew why it had happened. Went to pick DD up from my moms tonight, as she went there while I was in hospital, she was a little dissappointed I didn't greet her with her new baby bless her. I might google what happened to me tomorrow and see if it's happened to any other ladies, I mean I've had braxton hicks, and I've had contractions with DD. DP knew i was contracting and so did the midwives on the labour ward, but to have one last for an hour and a half non-stop, it was murder really. They've put me on co-codamol for a few days, as the contraction really did last that long, it's hurt my stomach muscles and ribs.
I'm going to say goodnight anyway, try and get some sleep. Night X

FiKelly · 14/03/2009 07:21

jael.. it does sound a very scary and painful experience. i hope the co codamol eases the soreness it's caused. lets hope someone comes up with a reason too.

dh and i did a marathon web house hunt last night. got loads to take a closer look at.. quite exciting

OP posts:
MsG · 14/03/2009 08:46

Deckchair, best wishes - hope you have good news soon.

DiveDaisy, happy (belated) birthday!

Jael, that sounds terrifying - I hope things settle and you feel a lot better today.

I got myself into a bit of a state yesterday because the baby's been really active lately, then yesterday it moved a lot in the morning but then I didn't really feel it again the rest of the day - just a few small movements but nothing like it had been. I knew it was probably fine but phoned the midwives and was told to go in to get checked, so we went to the hospital and spent 20 minutes on a monitor. Everything was fine and it kicked me loads whilst on there!! I don't know if it was the pressure from the thing on my stomach or the coldness of the gel. It hasn't moved as much since but I have had some movements. The midwife said maybe it's just moved position and is behind the placenta or something.

Felt a little bit silly for panicking and going in, but it was such a relief. I think the trouble is, because I had a miscarriage in 2007, I find it hard to believe (and think DH does too really) everything can be OK with this pregnancy. Every time I hear the baby's heartbeat or when I've seen it on a scan, it's almost like I'm surprised. I guess I just need to work on relaxing a bit more maybe.

Sorry for that long message. I hope everyone else is OK today. xx

Blottedcopybook · 14/03/2009 08:52

Morning all! Hope we're all well today!

I had an amazing dream last night that I delivered the baby at home and it was a boy, then when it came time to push out the placenta I delivered another baby - a girl this time. So now I wake up and I'm only pregnant with one baby and I'm feeling a bit bleurgh. Pregnancy dreams are so weird.

sophietom · 14/03/2009 09:55

Blottedcopybook I know what you mean- last week I dreamed I gave birth to a rugby ball and the delivery staff started throwing it round the room- it was awful!
Divedaisy happy (belated) birthday
I drank a cup of tea yesterday for the first time in my pregnancy without it making me feel sick so am looking forward to dunking choc chip cookies in tea later -yum
Also am thinking about ordering some 'real' nappies- does anyone who already has children have any recommendations, there seems to be quite a few companies doing them?

sausagenmash · 14/03/2009 10:21

Jael - poor you - glad you're ok! MsG - glad all ok with you too!

Off out in a mo to mooch about in town. I had a migraine last night - I get the flashy lights, numb hand / arm / tongue, then I can't speak Just went to bed with paracetamol, as can't take my usual migraine horse tablets. Feel ok today, but head is a bit woolly, so its a day of paracetamol today. Ugh. Its dp's birthday and I got him a wii in the end.... ho hum... here comes an evening of killing zombies... I only have myself to blame! (on the plus side, he's a bit cross I splashed out, so he's going to get loads of baby stuff when we're in town!)

Blottedcopybook · 14/03/2009 10:36

sophietom I used a whole load of different cloth nappies with my last two, I have a few favourites. I've always been advised to check out Kittikins or The Nappy Lady.

Personally I rely on the Kiwi Quick Flip because they're superabsorbant and I don't need to worry about which nappies belong to which child. My main advice would be to stick with either poppers or a nippa grippa (the modern nappy pin) because no matter how carefully I fold over the velcro before I wash them, I always end up with 20 nappies stuck to each other and velcro tabs covered with baby poo!

llareggub · 14/03/2009 10:37

blottedcopybook you've reminded me about a dream I had the first night I was let out of hospital with DS. I have a history of sleepwalking anyway and DH found me wandering around our bedroom. He asked me what I was doing and I told him I was looking for our babies. He told me DS was fast asleep in the moses basket and I said "not him, the girls, where are the girl babies?"

MsG I get that panic feeling as well, you are not alone!

RIght, off to paint! We had a childfree night last night but I still woke up at 6am. I went back to sleep though, bliss!

SweetBROODY · 14/03/2009 11:06

MsG I know exactly what you mean after my MC last year May I have had the same feelings of disbelief.. I dont think it will go away until we have babys in our arms!

MsG · 14/03/2009 11:34

sausagenmash, your migraine sounds awful. Do you normally get many of them?

llareggub and sweetBROODY, glad I'm not the only worrier. I can't wait till I've got the baby in my arms. 11 weeks (ish!) to go...!

pulapula · 14/03/2009 13:49

MsG and any other worriers- worrying is all part of pg i think, but try not to. We're nearly there now. It's not unusual for baby to have a good sleep or get into a new position and its only if you get less than 10 movements in a 24 hour period you need to be really worried. I find that lying down with a glass of milk or giving my tummy a jiggle often gets LO moving. Usually he's very active in the evenings but doesnt do much in the day (but is having a good wiggle now- must know i'm talking about him!)

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 14/03/2009 13:59

Just updating the list with my latest name...
Would be so much easier if I could just have the name Ses but apparently someone else already has it! I've never come across them though!

Another one still struggling to believe after previous mmcs here. Don't quite know what else I think it is that's poking me in the ribs though!

pulapula · 14/03/2009 14:49

I'm feeling very sorry for myself. DH has gone food shopping as we have absolutely nothing in. I am feeling decidedly queasy and ill, and in need of sugar, and was expecting DH back by now, but he has rung to say he's done the shopping, but has something in his eye and can't open it and therefore can't drive. He said he'd sit there for 30 mins and then we'd have to decide what to do (dont have a second car so can't go and meet him). I told him to go and buy some more optrex- he keeps saying he has grit or something in his eye and it disturbs him at night so now he thinks its something permanently lodged there- i'm just annoyed he's with all my yummy food when he's worked that out . LOL what am i like ME ME ME . But i really don't feel well....

pulapula · 14/03/2009 15:13

Mini-drama over- DH is home and i have cookies! Feeling better already...

Momino · 14/03/2009 15:15

pula, what a bother. hope he's back soon. my dh went food shopping as well. I haven't been for ages as I don't think I can push a trolley anymore (can barely do a buggy).

the kitchen is a tip but I'm lazily sat here next to dd1 watching lazytown (appropriate) on cbeebies. I'll clean the kitchen later .

about movement, I didn't feel much movement yesterday but do know for certain I'm getting 10+ movements a day. I just notice there are more prolonged periods of non-movement. maybe baby is running out of room.

also weighed myself this morning and have gained about 22 pounds so far, quite a bit more than the last 2 pregnancies. but i've not eating any differently than the last 2 and am carrying all up front this time. i truly look like i stuck a football (or beachball) under my jumper. also gave myself a linea negra yesterday because bump itched so much I actually broke a line of skin scratching myself. ouch.

Febes · 14/03/2009 15:30

Afternoon. We went up the high street this morning to do some banking and buy milk etc and took DD to the park on the way home. DD has now been asleep for 2.5 hours and I have just had an hour and a half sleep so I guess the fresh air sure took it out of us. I still feel knackered. I had BH and needed to pee while I was walking and had a sore pelvic area when I got back. Still have 8 weeks to go!!!!

SpangleMaker · 14/03/2009 17:54

Afternoon everyone. Jael what a scare! Hope you are feeling better today.

Another one sat lazily eyeing a tip of a kitchen. I really need to get the hoover our but I just can't be bothered at the moment. My excuse is I'm worn out after wrapping DH's birthday presents (he hasn't got a Wii though I'm afraid) and going in to town to have lunch with my Dad & step-mum, PIL and DH in honour of his b'day - only DH (poor thing) was working and could only nip out for an hour between customers, while we all sat around and had a leisurely lunch

I've said I'd buy DH some clothes so we're off to Cheshire Oaks tomorrow. At least I won't be tempted to buy myself much though I might have a little splurge in the Molton Brown shop

Belgianchocolates · 14/03/2009 19:28

Good evening everyone,

We've been to Cadbury World today and had a lovely time. The only bad bit was when dd was car sick and vomitted just as I parked and pulled the car door open to get her out, so some was in and some was out of the car. Of course this had to happen the day after I had it valetted. Typical. She's fine now and spent the whole drive home staring at the inside of a carrier bag, because she was scared it would happen again.

I'm now paying for yesterday's shopping + today's Cadbury World trip and am grateful that I have crutches. I don't know how I'd walk around the house otherwise. So I think tomorrow will be a rest day for sure. The trip has also totally worn me out and I'm ready for an early night today.

re dreams: with each pregnancy I've had odd dreams. The strangest ones were with dd though: I dreamt I gave birth to a baby made of minced meat (much easier!) and I dreamt I was cutting an apple and accidentially stabbed ds (I think that reflected my feeling that I was betraying him by having another baby).

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 14/03/2009 20:26

been abit quieter today was nice to be able to catch up so easily

been into town today with my mum and no ds which was really nice we had such a great time we were there for 5hrs! so im really worn out now after all that walking hopefully done me some good to though! brought a few baby outfits today (so cute) cant believe how small they are! but decided to stop and that i need to go through ds's baby clothes we kept first to see what i have and then decide what i need to buy which i dont think is gonna be much as ds had so many clothes as a baby (like mountain loads) was gonna wait till easter time to go through them but decided to go through them this week as otherwise wont leave myself long to get what i do need. but couldnt help myself buying a few bits today as i do want this lo to have some of his own stuff to.

belgian glad you had a nice day at cadbury world, and bless her with a carrier bag on the way home!

re-strange dreams ive been having loads cant always remember what they are but just wake up thinking well that was strange and i know some of them are not at all nice either so sometimes im glad i dont always remember them!

momino ive to been finding that this lo seems to have longer periods of calmness with less movements but am also still feeling 10+ a day so know things are still fine maybe they just start having longer sleeping periods at this stage and they've also got less room i spose.

pulapula glad your dh got home in the end with your cookies before it was too late.

spanglemaker hope you had a nice lunch out to celebrate dh's bday. im full of excuses when it comes to housework at the moment to i just cant be bothered either theres so much of it id rather not start!

sausgaenmash hope your feeling better now after your migraine, i used to get them alot so know how awful they can be espicailly when all you can take is paracetamol!

re-worrying i know i worry alot even though ive been through this before and last pg went perfectly well so can really understand why those of you who have had previous mc's may be finding it hard, nice to know your not alone though and soon we will all be celebrating the birth of our lovely babies.

jael hope things ahve improved for you and that your feeling a little better now, just rest lots and take care of yourself, thinking of you.

pulapula · 14/03/2009 20:36

Hi Matthewandbumpsmummy - thanks for humouring me- i felt so pathetic when he got home and i couldn't even raise myself from the sofa to go get something to eat- I had to get my DD to go fetch me something. After a cup of tea i was able to get up and do some housework lol. Does anyone else get like this?
