I can imagine what a weird experience it must be to watch a couple of Bollywood films while high on gas and air and pethidine. All that colour and music with a woozy head on top of it. I don't think I could have coped with that.

The great sperm race. Sounds interesting. I love programs about that sort of thing. It always amazes me how these perfect little creatures grow out of nothing really.

Belgianchocolates · 22/03/2009 20:13

fi I think your questions will have helped the women in your tour. Funny question about the sound proofing. As far as I'm aware most hospitals don't have any and if you scream, we all hear it at the enterance of the ward. It can be useful, because it's alerted us plenty of times that new admissions were a bit further along than expected, IYKWIM.

FiKelly · 22/03/2009 20:19

llare lol at the bollywood... i wonder why they chose those 2 films?! a good laugh though esp with the gas and air

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 22/03/2009 20:30

Maybe the mw was a bollywood fan?

llareggub · 22/03/2009 20:33

Definitely no soundproofing at our hospital, which is why I begged them not to force me to stay there earlier this week when I went in for monitoring. There was a woman screaaaaaaaming loudly and then laughing hysterically. Not a recipe for a good sleep!

When I was in with DS, I was kept amused by the woman in the next bed, who was in the early stages of labour and complaining to anyone who would listen that she couldn't have a fag on the ward to calm her nerves. Oh, and telling everyone who came within shouting distance that "the bastard father is having a fag, why can't I?!"

Belgianchocolates · 22/03/2009 20:40

llare We usually think that if a woman has got the energy to walk downstairs to smoke, then they can't be all that far in labour yet! Even smokers will forget about sigarettes in established labour.

We're going to have to think about a new thread title soon. The 1000 post mark isn't all that far yet. Any inspiration anyone?

LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 20:44

I sorted out a few bits of bobs for the LO and packed them into the cupboard we've added to our bedroom and assembled the moses basket this afternoon. It's all starting to feel real now.

I must start listening to my hypnobirthing cd and find some reusable nappies and sort out hospital bag bits while I still have the energy, I've had a lot of trouble walking today it's been very painful - I feel like an old lady

LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 20:45

Has anyone started the perineal massage thing yet?

FiKelly · 22/03/2009 20:49

thanks for updating the list belgian

looby... i've not started the perineal massage... just not got round to it as i keep forgetting about it!

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 22/03/2009 20:51

I keep forgetting to listening to my hypnobirthing CD too. I keep forgetting I have it TBH and then when I do remember it's too late in the day, because I want to listen to it without falling asleep.
I'm not going to do perineal massage. Just the thought alone makes me shudder.

LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 20:54

I must look up how to do it on the net. DH has offered to"give it a go" think I'll have a go myself first tho, in case he goes at it like a bull in a china shop!

LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 20:55

fikelly did you do it last time? did it help?

FiKelly · 22/03/2009 20:56

I have to listen to my cd evenings when ds is asleep as i don't have any ds free time at all during the days. I wouldn't be able to focus/relax with the constant barrage of queries, play activities and bum changes, snacks, lunch etc. Pretty much every time i listen to it i do fall asleep but hey ho better for me to listen and fall asleep than not do it at all.

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 22/03/2009 20:58

I do have the option of listening when the dcs are at school, so I'm lucky like that, If only I could remember to do it! I've only ever listened once and I fell asleep during the relaxation bit and woke up with the counting bit.

LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 20:59

did the massage help?

FiKelly · 22/03/2009 21:00

looby i did do it last time but i was induced at 38.5wks due to pre-eclampsia and needed a cs so i never got the chance to find out if it would have worked... I bought a special oil for it and everything. Only prob was the 1st time i used that oil it stung like crazy and i had to make a mad dash for the shower to wash it out as i was in agony!!! i then used just plain old normal oil instead

OP posts:
Momino · 22/03/2009 21:02

I've only listened to the CD once and fell asleep . Really have to make an effort to listen more as i think it will help me relax.

perineal massage.... can't bear to think of it!

FiKelly · 22/03/2009 21:02

re thread titles... how about
Due May09.... we're heading for the last stretch

OP posts:
LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 21:02

think it's time to go to bed DH has just put on an old Marillion dvd. I like Marillion but I've seen it quite a few times. Might go and attempt to list to hypno cd perhaps.

LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 21:03

good title fikelly

as a first timer does make me wince tho

Belgianchocolates · 22/03/2009 21:05

fi that's a good one. Or what about something with tears and tantrums in honour of how a lot of us have been feeling?
Anyway. Going to sit with dh for a bit now. Maybe after a good night's sleep the perfect thread title will pop into my head. (together with a brilliant presentation about the challenges facing midwifery)

FiKelly · 22/03/2009 21:07

i'm heading off to bed... had some very late nights over the last few days and early starts and it's starting to catch up with me. Night night and here's hoping we all get a good nights rest for a change

OP posts:
LoobyLou36 · 22/03/2009 21:08

Night all..

I'm away to bed to dream of chocolate

Blottedcopybook · 22/03/2009 21:10

I am a walking disaster.

I decided to have a shot at some, er, topiary this afternoon and thought I'd done a really good job until I lifted up my belly to get dried after the bath and saw that I'd left a kind of moustache
