rosielady · 08/03/2009 08:40

Morning,
You've also reminded me that our 11th wedding anniversary is on the 17th April, which is also DH's 40th! I haven't done a stroke yet - any suggestions? DH has expressed a desire to have an afternoon barbeque for his birthday, but i am having difficulty summoning the energy to organise or even think about properly - poor effort from me! i have my doubts about a BBQ in mid April in central Scotland, but we can always just put some food on inside instead.

Its the thought of all the other stuff that we have to do before hand - 4 rooms to paint including the hall and staircase! Not me - but trying to cajole DH - but difficult as he works FT and commutes, and helps a lot with DS around the house, so not a lot of energy left at the end of the day.

We would normally go away for a few days on our anniversary, but this was before DS was born - but anyone got any ideas for anniversary night away within a couple of hours drive of Central Scotland?

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 08:48

Lovely new thread, I do like the title.
Congrats on the anniversaries ladies, I tend to forget about ours a bit (9 yrs this year - quite scary when you say it out loud).
rosielady didn't realise there was anyone in Scotland on the thread - I'm in the Tayside area, where are you? If we are after a nice night or two away we tend to head to Gleneagles. It can be pricey obviously but they have been doing some really good deals of late - in fact I think we got an email with some offers on recently. We were there as a family for a few days in Feb and the rates were about half what they had been previously (credit crunch and all that!) Presume you're not taking your DS but if you did kids are well catered for and ours love it. An April BBq might be ok, guess it depends how nice the weather is but often April is pretty good? Our anniversary is beginning of May and every year so far it's been gorgeous weather for our anniversary (was on our wedding day too, we were very lucky).
Anyway, DD2 wants to get dressed now so better go. There's only so much kids tv she'll watch before she gets fed up.

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 08:51

And I'm off to choose paint and wallpaper colours later - this nesting is really taking hold. DH seems quite alarmed by my sudden determination to GET THINGS DONE! (so alarmed in fact, he's still in bed). Been in this house over a year now and apart from the initial decoration before we moved in we've done nothing. So time for action I reckon! Wish me luck
Have a nice day. I'll be back later to make cocktails to celebrate the new thread.

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 08:55

check out MacDonald hotels too they're all over scotland not too big and not too pricey when dh and I were last in one.. few years ago now! they have country ones and city ones.

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 08:58

Friends were at Crieff Hydro for a Feb break too, that apparently was really nice (we've never been).

frazzledoldbag · 08/03/2009 09:14

detsy BTW have you ordered your ICandy Pear yet? Just wondered as I know you are looking for a double with seat/carrycot positions facing towards you as well as away from you.....have just come across the Mountain Buggy double which has this facility and apprently has really good reviews. Just seen it on a website called Chariots. sorry am rubbish at links but will try.

Febes · 08/03/2009 09:41

Morning all. Nice to see a shiny new thread. Thanks for the Pelvic floor reminders I'm rubbish at remembering them. Last time I did yoga and aquanatal and they were part of the classes and a reminder to do them. This time I haven't had time for any classes so have been a bit slack- as my pelvic floor will now also be .

sausagenmash · 08/03/2009 09:54

Morning - and its a lovely sunny day!! Love the new thread!

Thanks to everyone congratulating me! Just hope I pass...All books are now packed away in crates ready to go and live in my parents garage for a few months before the move in the summer.Wooohoo!

Happy anniversary to everyone with anniversaries looming!

Looking forward to the London meet up!

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday - am off to friends for lunch, so no cooking for us today!

Momino · 08/03/2009 10:06

morning all, thanks for the thread, Fi. amusing title . going to look forthe sheep inserts for shoes, sounds like a good idea.

Polony, groan at birkenstocks - i swore i'd never wear them. but I will have a look as they have changed over the years and may have a pair I find visually acceptable to me. if you're wearing a pair they must be fashionable ! i do know they're supposed to be so comfy.

didn't get that cocktail last night. went to the living room in York which was packed, stood at the bar for about 15 min but all b/tenders busy, got tired of waiting so went back to chat with my friends until we left for the restaurant. i'm not too bothered, prob saved £4. Had a lovely pizza and hazlenut mousse pud at the restaurant which was most important. also stayed out till 12.00am.

came home, fell asleep only to be awakened at 6am by DH's phone calling me accidentally from Baltimore. he obviously didn't know he called, phone in jacket pocket or somewhere as I heard background noise of my mom, sis, bro, other voices, etc. I yelled for a while but no one heard me.

hung up phone and tried to sleep but couldn't so listened to my natal hypnotherapy. got through most then fell asleep until 09:30. now just listening to archers and will get up in mo to walk dog.

Girls back home tomorrow so lots of catch up cleaning to do today whilst I can.

Momino · 08/03/2009 10:09

sausage, missed that.... congrats on your finishing. You must be really proud and relieved. now you can relax and think about other things and bouncing babies.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 08/03/2009 10:42

Momino

I've never been served in less than about 15 minutes in the Living Room, I think it's because I'm not a size 0 blonde with pneumatic breasts. And the Archers (sighs with pleasure), haven't listened to it for aaaaages, we have music on so that the DDs can dance and pose

I can't remember who posted about the 'leaden' feeling when they were walking - it's not SPD. I have been getting strong BH's for ages - 3rd pregnancy! I got the tightening feeling when walking a lot in my 2nd pregnancy (Momino - it was always in the Museum Gardens on my way into town, so used to have a sit down and a look at the squirrels there - not all bad) and I got them yesterday (busy day, we went out and had fun and then went to Ikea - I love Ikea but I was knackered, still I was revived by Dime bar cake).

And someone posted about their bump suddenly changing - mine did this and it's now incredibly prominent (I've been told I don't look pregnant from behind as well), hard to believe there could be potential for growth for the next 10/11 weeks!

Nesting - not really as LO will be in our room until we manage to convert the attic/build an extension (in about 10 years probably), so I have no nursery to get excited about. Plus, I still haven't bought anything for the baby apart from a cot - no clothes (and some of you have been buying clothes for months - you must have them strategically stockpiled around the house ), bedding, pushchair - I am saving this treat. We are getting all the floors finished in the house though so this could be classed as nesting? With DD1 I put a wardrobe, chest of drawers, cot and changing table together the week she was due - all by myself.

Long waffling post, sorry....

Momino · 08/03/2009 10:58

dime bar cake? didn't know they make these. must be heavenly.

just tried to ring DD's at the inlaws but no answer, left a grumpy message that they're 'allowed' to ring me as well - would be nice to have spoken to girls this morning. am i being unreasonably grumpy to expect them to think of me when they're having fun?

maybe i have too much time to stew.

ReeBee · 08/03/2009 11:04

hi everyone, hope you're all well - and congrats to the many of you with anniversaries coming up.

Momimo, maybe your inlaws / DDs are trying to give you a bit of you time and not bother you?

I feel heavy / leaden now every time I'm halfway through walking our dogs but I keep telling myself that the extra nearly 2 stones will do that to a person! And I'm full of cold so distinctly sorry for myself anyway.

The nesting talk is making me laugh - we have just started to buy things (hurrah!) and I've started several lists of 'things to do before the baby arrives' which include everything from painting the bathroom to buying a moses basket, getting my car serviced and (somewhat worryingly) rebuilding our lean-to porch / utility.

I'm not planning on helping very much with the last item: as a nod to my pregnant state, DH has bought a cement mixer and reluctantly shelved his plans to build an extension at the same time.... Oh God, he's just said he's had a 'better idea' ... hah! I haven't mentioned but our house is also up for sale and has been for well over a year, and we're veering between doing nothing more to it, as we renovated it before putting it on the market, and continuing to improve it just in case it attracts more buyers that way. Difficult to balance a clean house for viewings (if we are ever so lucky again) with piles of rubble though methinks.

Re the Living Room in York, I agree it's a nightmare at night but in the afternoon it's fantastic and the bar staff are endlessly helpful. The guy who plays the piano there on Fridays and Sundays played at our wedding though so I'm a bit biased.

aagh, long rambling post from me, must go and do something useful like sorting out my kitchen cupboards! or maybe a little bit more online shopping...

ReeBee · 08/03/2009 11:06

sorry, Momino, clearly have sausages for fingers; some m / n confusion!

LoobyLou36 · 08/03/2009 11:18

Morning ladies. Nice thread title.

Got my appointment for Infant Feeding Workshop in the post on Friday, unfortunately in the next town tho. Thought this odd so rang up to find out why, the mw asked if I'd recently moved to which I replied "No - I've always lived in Hereford" she then asked me if I was sure I might be pg but I think I would have noticed...
All sorted now tho going on thur 26th March. Didn't think it was going to be that soon, it will all seem so real then . 8 weeks to go!

Don't feel like doing much today - had a mad blitz on the house yesterday - must be nesting!
Stepdaughter is here tho so must get out of this comfy chair and go and do some potting on with her in the greenhouse, then its homemade pizzas for lunch as no one fancies a roast dinner.

I get a nice rest for close to 3 hours later tho when DH takes her back to her mums.

Momino · 08/03/2009 11:39

ReeBee, you're right. they're very nice people and aren't ignoring me for any reason but prob what you say- to give me a break.

ReeBee · 08/03/2009 11:44

Momino - I understand how you feel though, there's always a bit of a pathetic 'but what about me'?! when my nearest and dearest are together without me...

llareggub · 08/03/2009 13:17

Just adding a message to put this in my "threads I'm on." Just back from soft play so need to make lunch. Have a good day!

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 13:36

hiya howling gales here now.. good job we did our errands this am before it turned nasty.

grumpy it was me with the hard heavy/tight/achey bump which has suddenly shot out even more than ever..

glad i'm not feeling anything different to those of us that have this too.. i know everyone says every pregnancy is different.. but never realised just how different until now!

hi All,
Just checking into the nice shiny new thread, am liking the title, made me remember to do a few squeezes while sitting at the computer

Congrats to all on the anniversaries, this summer will be mine and DH's first wedding anniversary but 13th year together. He did promise ages ago that he would take me to v posh restauraunt here in cambridge. Think I may have to remind him.

Had a wierd experience last yesterday, was chatting on another thread about music and found someone I met and camped with at a couple of festivals 14 years ago amazing coincidence but so cool to run into someone from all that time ago!

Thanks for all your lovely messages yesterday. Am feeling much better today, talked to DH and we have a big list of things I can sort out which don't involve physical activity. Has made me feel much better and a bit less useless anyway. Just cooking sunday lunch then off to see Watchmen in the cinema, do you think its ok to take a cushion to sit on? The film is nearly 3 hours long!

Blottedcopybook · 08/03/2009 13:53

Frazzledoldbag I'm in Scotland too, just outside Glasgow.

I am absolutely shattered today, it was DS#2's 3rd birthday party yesterday. First guests arrived at 11am and the last ones left at 6.45pm. Son freaked out at the birthday cake (to be fair, it was his fourth and I think all the happy birthdaying was just too much for him!) and I completely misjudged how to keep 12 toddlers entertained for two hours.

Never again.

FiKelly · 08/03/2009 14:08

blotted it's going to be our ds's 3rd birthday this summer.. any tips?

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 08/03/2009 14:13

Hi everyone. A new thread again already. Gosh these threads don't last very long!

I'm having a quiet day today. I woke in the night feeling all dizzy, it had gone in the morning. Still, it felt really strange. I've been feeling slightly nauseous too, I'm wondering whether that's the iron or just the baby pressing on my stomach?

The Braxton Hicks feel the same to me too. I never had them with ds or dd, so it took me a while to realise what that funny heavy feeling was. I seem to get them when I've been on my feet for a while.

runningmonkey take a cushion to the cinema. The cinema chairs are ever so uncomfortable when you're pregnant.

We haven't had a washing machine or dryer for 4 days as dh had to take it away and somehow he seems to think 4 days of washing can be done in 1 afternoon . The dryer isn't back and so there's only so much washing that I can spread around the house.

Congrats at all the aniversaries coming up. Our 1st wedding anniversary wont be until the 7th of june, so I'm not sure how much well be able to do in terms of celebrating!

llareggub · 08/03/2009 14:50

Does anyone get weird bursts of energy followed by periods of crashing tiredness? I've just been to bed for half-an-hour as I was so tired but couldn't sleep. Yesterday I was full of energy and motivation but today, nothing!
