Just a quick one-have been searching through the posts trying to find the link that someone posted for travel insurance when pg-I can't find it anywhere-can anyone remember?

MrsPuddleduck · 24/03/2009 11:29

Sugarkane - where abouts in Stafford? I am on Hillcroft Park (sort of behind the police headquarters between the Lichfield and Cannock Road). Hope the scan goes well tomorrow.

littlepea72 · 24/03/2009 12:09

Hello!!! What strange scan i have just had....German doctor was quick, straight to the point & no messing about! He started by asking me questions, why did i have a c-section, then asked DS weight at birth, when i said 8 9 he looked me up & down & said, yes that will be why you had one, this one will be bigger! God i wish i was tall!! So i was all geared up for my internal scan but instead he did a tummy one...hooray! There was the little bean with its heart beating away like mad (i couldnt see the heart beat but my DH did). I also had DS sitting beside me holding my hand, rubbing my head, kissing me saying....is he going to open your tummy & bring it out! Hes only 4 lol...Yes i am very happy!! I am soooo tired now & could do with a nap! I have to have test done on the 6th for downs, and then another scan on the 14th.....they like their scans here!

hackneybird · 24/03/2009 12:25

sam it's www.jestons.co.uk

Congrats littlepea! You must be very happy. Why did your doc think you had a CS? Are you short and was your baby v. large? (I am short so now starting to wonder!)

littlepea72 · 24/03/2009 12:54

Hackneybird, im only 5ft2 & Ethan was very long! My aunt used to be a midwife & she always said that you can judge by the womans height & the size of her feet my feet are only a size 3, so maybe there is something in it....but i know loads of small people who have straight forward births, so dont worry about it.

HappyTangerine · 24/03/2009 13:08

Had my scan earlier, all good. DH got very emotional, especially when we could see the heart beating away and baby sucking its thumb then doing little kicks. It then flinchd when the scanner went over himm again-think we woke him up! I am bang on for dates- 30th September. Have to see a consultant because of my v mild asthma but hopefully can then go straight back to midwife led care. Someone hadn't turned up hich meant I got seen 10 mins early-excellent news for my v v full bladder!

Thanks btw to those that answered my bladder question

LittlePea - thats great news, you can relax for a bit now!

HC-have been thinking of you, hope all has gone well

MeHimCatBob and TheBoob - yay, more Northerners! I am in Southport

Hello All

I'm still here and have been trying to keep up to date with everyone's posts.

12 weeks today!! Hurrah I never really believed I was going to make it this far so am thrilled to bits!

I've got my nuchal scan on Thursday and I'm trying hard not to worry. Easier said than done when they have already said that I'm high risk because of my advanced age - 38!!! I'm hoping the scan will lenghthen my odds - fingers crossed.

Still being sick - went for a run yesterday and threw up in a bush - classy bird!

I'm thrilled for everyone's good scan news, let's keep it up ladies!

JemL · 24/03/2009 13:29

HalfMumHalfBiscuit - I have to see a consultant at about 20 weeks, becuase of a previous c-section. The idea is that he or she will thoroughly review your notes and decide what will happen with this birth - whether they will want you to go for a VBAC, and to talk about an action plan if so, or to give you the reasons why they might suggest another c-section. If there is no other reason you know of why you would see a consultant, I would suggest that is it!

I'm looking forward to my appointment and telling the consultant that I don't think trying for a VBAC on the highly medicalised labour ward in bed on continuous monitoring, which is what my midwife has told me to expect, is the best way forward!

patmum · 24/03/2009 13:37

Hi all

Fab news about all the scans, making me a little more positive about mine next Mon.

Saw midwife on Fri she was sooooo lovely and took time to answer all my questions. She was with me over an hour & a half!

I will have time to discuss all my c section/VBAC anxieties. I've already been assigned a consultant & will see her at 15 weeks then again at 34 weeks

I didn't realise that the bloods for the combined test need to be taken at the time of the scan to reflect the hormone levels. These then need to be sent to Portsmouth for analysis & so I'll get results 5 to 8 days later! More waiting!!!

Ds announced the other day (out of the blue) that he'd like a sister. He's only two +4 m & we haven't told him yet. Not sure if it was fluke or if he's picking up on things!

Made me laugh though. Oh he's going to have a shock in Oct! Hopefully!!!

Cazza28 · 24/03/2009 14:50

littlepea72 and HappyTangerine great news! Just waiting for news from HC now...

HumphreysCorner · 24/03/2009 15:08

Hi all

Scan was fab and I am actually 13 weeks today so now due on the 29th September. Baby was extremely active so looks like another child like DD1-a handful. Having an amnio on the 14th April as I know the blood tests won't help me at all and the amnio will put my mind at ease despite all the risks. Was so nervous when I laid down I burst into tears so the MW quickly turned the screen round to show me the heartbeat and then paused while I breathed again. She kept saying breathe, go on breathe.

Congrats on the other scans today and hope everyone else has the same good news on future scans.

Better update my stats.

Hi Willmouse not actually in Stafford but last stayed in Hixon, where my mom still is and before that I was in Rugeley.

Least you are not to far from a hospital, and please dont worry as I have a few mates that work at Stafford Hospital and they say it is not nearly as bad as it has been made out. For example it was claimed that patients were having to drink water out of flower vases strange when the majority of the wards havent allowed flowers vases for years because of infection control. Add that to the fact that the hospital will be watched very close now, it will prob be safer than most hospitals.

Again great news to everyone on their scans and good luck to the upcoming scanners.

HappyTangerine · 24/03/2009 15:30

HC thats great news, congratulations!

littlepea72 · 24/03/2009 15:51

HC & HappyT.... Happy days!!!

Siikibam · 24/03/2009 16:57

Hello everyone. Decided to finally join in. Will be 12 weeks next Monday, scan is on 3rd. Can't wait to see it & relax some! Nausea & tiredness were much worse than with DS. Just waiting a week or so for the nausea to wear off...hopefully!! Congrats to you all & hope yr scans went/will go well.

hackneybird · 24/03/2009 17:24

I second the congrats to HT and HC. I'm so impatient for my turn now. Monday seems like such an age away. I've been getting stretching and tingling sensations all day, so can only assume that this activity is all good.

Pleased you are so pleased to be going home littlepea!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 24/03/2009 19:00

Thanks JemL that sounds about right. It does make me laugh how we are supposed to just 'know' what's going on without any explanation.

Anyhow, got my scan date through now 9th April....seems ages away!

I am also sceptical of a VBAC as last time (i.e. when had emergency C-section in first place) was total nightmare. I won't go into details as don't want to scare the first timers but I certainly don't want to go through that again. I think I ended up having an emergency C Section due to crap medical care in the first place so I am not feeling massively confident.

I was feeling pretty crappy today with morning sickness and had a bit of a panic about what lies ahead.

twinklegreen · 24/03/2009 19:04

KKKaty I'm in York too!

KKKKaty · 24/03/2009 19:21

Twinklegreen - Oo marvellous. Are you having yours at York Hospital? That's our plan. Whereabouts are you? - we're just off Bishopthorpe Road.

idreamofbeanie · 24/03/2009 19:54

Oooo I'm in York too! I live in South Bank just next to Rowntree Park.

Congrats HC and HappyT.

kaos73 · 24/03/2009 20:46

Hi, room for one more?

Due date at the mo is 27th Oct and scan on 14.04, in Derby. Agree with you, HMHB, it does seem ages ways but as this will be number 2 I'm much more distracted this time around so hopefully the weeks will fly in...

Hattie05 · 24/03/2009 20:53

Hi all,

I havn't been on here for sometime, have been so very very tired its unbelievable. I'm working fulltime with 2 girlies to come home to at night and the second they are asleep so am i! Today i've taken the day off to rest and have docs appt tomorrow (still no midwives or scans here for me due to shortage!) I'm going to get him to send me for bloods as i'm sure i need iron.

Those of you who have midwife appts prior to 12 week scan can you tell me

  1. do they check your iron levels.
  2. do they listen to heartbeat?

I have had to fess up to closest colleagues at work as they started guessing due to the big bump i have. I swear i could look 6mths pregnant - rather scared its twins esp. as i'm so nauseaus this time and never have been in other pg's.

Anyway enough of my moans, congrats for the wonderful news of scans and excited people, hope i can sound like that soon when the nhs finally find some staff to see to me.

HappyTangerine · 24/03/2009 21:17

Siikibam and kaos73 - welcome!

Hattie- didn't have an early scan but lots on here have. Where are you based? Hope your scan dates come through soon.
