Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

OP posts:

Anyone found skinny jeans that work when you're pg? My normal ones stopped going over my butt by about 10 weeks!! . I bought some interim size 10 Topshop maternity skinnies to last me the period between 10 wks (far far too early for maternity stuff!) and actually fitting maternity stuff. Those ones are now pitifully tight and painful, and I am stuck with big baggies which are ok but I LOVED my skinnies and cant find any mat ones which are comfy round the waist.

I am definitely in mat clothes now but still finding them rather large. My bump bands don't get much use to be honest. I find them too big to stay up properly so they go baggy and annoying and fall down and crumple up round my waist (what waist?)and I end up ripping them off halfway through the day. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Saw fetal cardiologist today and EVERYTHING IS FINE!!! I can finally relax, 10 wks after the initial scare! Hence I can now worry about belly bands and not about heart defects. There is an ENORMOUS weight off my shoulders. Thank you God. Good luck to all of you still scanning.

BonzoDoodah · 10/03/2009 13:45

Back from my scan. Oh wow it was brilliant. All well with the little Dumpling. Pics in profile - I love the one of the feet. No way of knowing the brand as it kept its legs curled up tight the whole time. So much so I have to go back in 2 weeks to have a second scan to check the spine. But it ties in well with my appointment with the consultant to discuss a VBAC.

hunny don't worry about your car. Lots of people have their babies in the back while driving on their own. Some say it is safer for the baby to be in the back anyway.
I always had baby in the front but then I have an original (24 year old) Mini so no sign of an airbag and no way I was hauling the car seat into the back of the car with only 2 doors!

mickeylou · 10/03/2009 13:52

gorgeous pic of feet bonzodoodah - congrats on scan.

belgrano - fantastic new about little one's heart! you will be able have to give this baby a good telling off when they arrive for all the worrying you have done over the last few months. hope you can really enjoy the second half of this pregnancy and like you say, worry about belly bands or slings for a change!

lydiathetattooedlady · 10/03/2009 14:15

mickeylou congratulstions on your girl, we've just got back, the sonographer asked if we had any ideas what we thought baby was-i said definate 100% girl-she then showed me its willy its a boy!!! cant believe we will have one of each! feel very lucky, glad i found out now as i was so sure baby was a girl ive been going through all dd's old baby clothes, it never crossed my mind it was a boy-well and truly gobsmacked!!

xxhunnyxx · 10/03/2009 14:22

bonzo that's the other issue - only 3 doors plus I have a bad back so it's really not ideal to be putting baby in the back

Belgrano · 10/03/2009 14:36

Hunny can you get the airbags disabled on the passenger side? I know you can with some models.

Thanks Mickeylou, it was a massive relief and like you say I will be giving him a good talking to about all this worry! The cardiologist said its always boys who do this - make all this needless worry for their mums.

Lydiatattooed congratulations on your BOY!

Here's a silly thing - I've just been offered a 2nd hand double buggy and was SOO excited about buying a Phil&Teds now that we know the baby is ok. I was in fact going to buy in this afternoon off Kiddicare. Now I feel cheated of the ONLY new thing this baby was going to get (cot and everything else except maybe a sling will be 2nd hand). VERY churlish I know, I shold be grateful. But all my research into models and our requirements and specs and the drive up the John Lewis on Sat all wasted and I still won't get my shiny new buggy. Hormonal pg woman alert!

Just rediscovered my childhood love for Crunchies. Had two in a row. Mmmmmmm golden honeycomb. Not going to help my skinny jeans campaign much

xxhunnyxx · 10/03/2009 14:46

belgrano no i've checked my handbook and called Vauxhall and no defo can't disable them. The girl who I spoke to even had the same prob when she had her baby so defo no way it can be done

mickeylou · 10/03/2009 14:48

belgrano after everything you have been through - go and treat yourself to that new buggy!! take the other one for a spare.

you are probably right - it is boys that make you worry. My DS has a heart murmur which was spotted at the 6 week check. it took them 18 months to finally tell us it was an innocent murmur (just noise really) as opposed to a non innoncent murmur which can mean a hole in the heart etc!

SO Pleased for you Lydia - hope your little boy gives you as much pleaseure as mine has. it is very true that boys are all for their mums!! i agree we are very lucky to be getting one of each. i still cant quite believe we are having a girl.

mickeylou · 10/03/2009 14:49

oh Belgrano i had a cadburys twirl for breakfast. no skinny jeans for me either!!

Misspaella · 10/03/2009 15:08

Belgrano I have hung up my normal skinny jeans for a while now. I tried some mat ones yesterday (Topshop) and as I mentioned in a previous post looked like Humpty Dumpty. Not a good look.

CONGRATS on the good scan result.

woollyjo · 10/03/2009 15:11

Belgrano I have a bump band free in a magazine last time I was pg - had the same problem so got out the sewing machine and made it narrower (so more snug) and now it holds things up great.

I also find it useful for wearing under jeans which go under the bump (not my first choice but we are in hand-me-down heaven here) as when I pull the elastic bits tight enough to stop them falling down and taking my pants with then (grr) the sides cut in. I'm one of these all out the front girls so nothing is fitting very well.

This is defo my last pg, I have steaming heartburn and antacid pills upset my stomach so there's a choice to make!

On the skinny jeans, I have a pear of H&M over the bump jeans which most folk don't event realise are mat jeans at all, love them. They're not super skinny but defo not baggy ones

Belgrano · 10/03/2009 16:00

Oh lord, just had my third Crunchie from the vending machine. These are full sized, real ones. Can anyone match me for greed??!

xxhunnyxx · 10/03/2009 17:03

A company came in doing a presentation today so from the goodies they brought I have had 3 mini swiss rolls, 1 marshmallow teacake, 1 chocolate biscuit and a handful of Revels. Do I win?

Cheekycel · 10/03/2009 17:07

a colleague's bday, ive had 5 mini doughnuts, a choc eclair, a custard eclair and now having a slice of carrot cake...do i win?

xxhunnyxx · 10/03/2009 17:13

Yeah u defo win cheekycel lol

Cheekycel · 10/03/2009 17:17

yep, thats what i call greed! LOL

JetLi · 10/03/2009 17:27

Gosh - and I was feeling guilty about 4 big glasses of lemon barley water!!!

Happy scan news all around - it's a good day! Congrats all and glad you can now relax Belgrano

Patchybob · 10/03/2009 19:36

Belgrano Great news about the scan, relax now and enjoy. Re the skinny jeans I have a fab black pair from Dorothy Perkins, under the bump but comfy.

EvieBear Thanks for your post, its been ok today, returned to normal so I have decided just to put it down as one of those things. If it happens again I will speak to the hospital. All these worrying things. I went to buy some maternity clothes yesterday but really didn't enjoy it as I was so worried. Silly really.

Nesting like mad, have sorted out DD room today and stolen all sorts of things from her for the baby! Just waiting for her to kick off as she is quite territorial!

lydiathetattooedlady · 10/03/2009 19:46

patchybob i know its prob a bit TMI but i was told that when your waters leak it can smell a bit like semen! sure enough my waters at 32 were leaking and all because i thought ooh how odd me and dp havent had sex for a few days then it hit me about the whiff HTH!!!
ive been going through dd baby clothes and luckily have got some white bits but not a lot. feel a bit sad that all the hello kitty dresses i have will never be worn again SOB! i will save them for her dollys!
dd has chicken pox, its awful the're all in her mouth and hair bless her, i cant even give her anythign as shes sick whenever we give her calpol!
just got to try and think of a boys name now as we had a girl one all picked out and i loved it, hate to say that so far me and dp cannot agree on any and both of us are verys stubborn!

Gillyan · 10/03/2009 19:52

So pleased for all of you who have had your scans and found out the sex! Brilliant news for you too belgrano bet you're so relieved.

patchy ditto with the discharge, again sorry if TMI, I wiped the other day and it felt ike when your period starts suddenly - it'c whitish/lime greenish/yellowish but doesn't smell at all. I have been left with a few wet patches in knickers also so I am just wearing pantyliners as the norm now.

And for even more lovely pregnancy related conditions, I have just discovered I have PILES!!!!!!!!! ARRRRGGGHHHHHHJH! My bum has been hurting for past few days and just had a feel and it's just a little bit thats out and bleeding Didn't have them last time. Anyone with any experience of them?? Not sure wether to go to the docs or just the pharmacy tomorrow?? God the joys hey!

And,.....I went to get measured for bras again today and have gone from a 42 D to a 46 D and nowhere stocks 46, I've been on the net and can't find anything! I started off a 36 FF and now this???? It's doing my head in, I'm so uncomfortable and I don't know where I am going to get a 46 Bra from.

prams/buggies We have decided today on the Silver Cross 3D complete Pram System, it's £299 plus £100 for the car seat and it's a travel system. Quite excited and think we're going to order it tonight when DP gets out of the shower. Also made my first baby purchase today - nothing exciting just a pack of 2 dummies.

I've got a mental 'friend' who has just started trying for a baby, like a month ago and she is so fixated on the fact that we got pregnant within first 2 months. I was in Mothercare today and saw her looking at buggies and she came over and said she has decorated the nursery already and stuff! I'm a bit worried that she's doing too much a wee bit too soon, what if it doesn't happen???

My last day in work is the 8th April I'll be 27 weeks! Then I've got 5 weeks holiday before my mat leave kicks in, I'm not planning on going back. I can't believe I'm going to have so much time to myself, I'm sure I'll end up hating it after a while I'm still on a high thinking about going. I work 3 days a week so I have 13 full days to work and a couple of half days on a sat to go! Woooooooo!!

Ihad a dream that I met Gary Barlow at a party and he had split up with his wife and we started kissing! Oh it was lovely!

Sorry for long post, I feel really chatty today!

woollyjo · 10/03/2009 19:53

lydia We found piriton really took the edge off the itching when dd had the pox just after xmas, there was no-way she was going to let us put calomine lotion on. She still has the marks, wondering if they will ever go away.

Hope your dd is better soon

EarthMotherWannabe · 10/03/2009 19:56

I've definitely done well on the greed front - spent the first few months eating soup, fruit, veg, etc. but caved the other day and ate two snickers and two bags of hula hoops...mmm!

Btw, have come up with an interesting new game which combines being 20+ wks pg and the inevitable pg memory loss. It's called 'try and remember what colour knickers I'm wearing'! I noticed the other day that if I lean very slightly back not only can I not see my pants but I also can't remember for the love of God what colour they are! Am I going mad?? Disclaimer: This game only works if your pants are not HUGE.

ilikeyoursleeves · 10/03/2009 20:09

Wow so many posts today! Congrats on all the wonderful scan news, esp Belgrano, hopefully you will be able to relax now and enjoy your pregnancy!

Re putting baby in rear of car- I thought that was the safest place? I think you are only meant to put them in the front if there is no other option? I must admit though, putting a rear facing infant seat in the back of a 3 door car is a total pain! But worth doing I would say, you can buy little mirrors to hang up so you can see the baby, my DS would always watch me in the mirror and give me little waves

Well I feel well and truly greedy today and yesterday too, I can't stop eating after dinner, cakes and chocolate mmmmmmm funnily enough my S&V crisps thing seems to have disapppeared!

My belly has suddenly got MASSIVE, loads of folk were commenting on it at work today- I love it!

hobnob57 · 10/03/2009 20:44

Hello ladies!
Just wanted to pop in and say congrats to belgrano on the reassurance of the scan - I've been keeping track, and so pleased for you.

HELLO to everyone else! Who was it that wanted a quinny speedi? We have one and I've done a review on here somewhere under 3-wheelers, so take a look.

Also, since this is what I feel to be my home thread, I thought I'd let you know that I'm [finally] 5wks pg tomorrow! Not getting too excited yet, but feeling hopeful. Fingers crossed, please

Belgrano · 10/03/2009 21:00

Hobnob that's FANTASTIC news! Hang on in there baby. So brilliant for you I am really pleased.
Thanks so much for your thoughts everyone, I feel very lucky to have such a supportive gang of MN friends.
