Oonagh - So sorry to hear about your cat. My cat who I'd had since I was 6 died a few years ago at the age of 17, I was absolutely devastated Really hope he pulls through.

Yank - Insomnia is awful, sending much sympathy.

I've had a fairly rubbish week. I've had PGP/SPD for the last few weeks, have been to the GP twice and still haven't got a physio referral. The first GP told me to come back when it was "a real problem" and the 2nd GP had decided it was a UTI rather than a problem with my pelvis before I'd even sat down, so I have a course of antibiotics but am no further forward with sorting out the actual problem. Feeling immensely fed up because I'm in pain, not sleeping properly and feel like I'm not being listened to

In other news, my DP (photojournalist) was attacked by a policeman on the G20 demos and now has a fractured elbow, which means his work is going to be seriously affected for the next few weeks whilst it heals. Not that he's been getting an awful lot of work anyway, but, somewhat ironically, it's been starting to pick up significantly over the last month or so. And before anyone asks, yes - I use the word "attack" deliberately and yes - it was obvious to the police officer that he was a journalist and not a demonstrator. Sorry to sound defensive, but I've been shocked how many people think it's ok for a police officer to whack someone who's doing nothing wrong so hard with a baton that it fractures bone. A photography student e-mailed us a series of shots of the incident done on motor drive, so if you flick through the shots quickly it's almost like watching a video. One of the last shots is of my DP crying out in pain and another police officer looking at him and laughing . Made me feel sick to watch it.

Anyway, on a happier note, I've been able to feel the baby wiggling for the last couple of weeks which is really cool, and I'm going for my 20 week scan tomorrow

Rachel1963 · 06/04/2009 10:46

Hi everyone, I'm 23 weeks today! And the little chap/ess is bouncing around so I'm a happy bunny On the downside, I can't help feeling that it's not fair to have heartburn starting ALREADY!

Becksydee sorry to hear about your DP, hope he's not in too much pain.

Hope everyone else manages to catch up on sleep soon, my sleep is being interrupted by DS these days, so we need to try to get him back on the straight and narrow before this one arrives and disrupts everything!

valz · 06/04/2009 12:13

Hi Ladies

had anomoly scan this morning, both babies look fine and both measuring perfect which is great. im 21 weeks today, am i time enough looking for baby stuff like carry tots and buggies etc or should i start now?

Haribosmummy · 06/04/2009 12:29

Hi Valz - Congratulations on the anomoly scan!! I'd def. recommend starting to do a bit of research into different products - see which ones you like / will work for you etc., but don't rush into buy anything just yet!

Ame - Things DO get easier... Not perhaps where you'd like them to be (I certainly didn't think things would still be as strained as they are, but there you go). I've given up trying with DH's ex now (and, I have to say, I'm the happier for it). We are civil, but that's it. I just don't get involved (as far as I am able) with her at all. And, yes, rant on here! This site is much better than some of the others (such as dedicated second wife sites) as it gives a balanced view - you will meet some lovely Ex wives and some lovely ex wives who are also second wives - that really balances up view points!!! Just try to stay sane for now!!!!

I can feel the baby move now, which is great, but I do have sympathy for all of those with anxiety... I'm def. feeling more anxious about this baby than with DS... With him, I just EXPECTED everything to be OK. NOw (after more research!) I know of all the things that could happen and I'm much more careful!!!

craftynclothy · 06/04/2009 13:25

Valz - congrats on scan. I'd definitely start looking now, particularly as you're having twins as it might take more time to research your options or find what you actually want.

Becksydee - at the policeman. Hope you dh is ok soon. I know what you mean about the police often doing what they like - my BIL got arrested once and was sprayed with CS gas after they'd handcuffed him . Will you dh be making a complaint?

2 year check was fine. Actually got a HV with common sense for once, who said dd looked in proportion and she would expect her to be small because I am.

I'm also feeling outside kicks - especially when in the bath. 23 weeks tomorrow I think

kitkatqueen · 06/04/2009 13:38

amenbump phew! glad about that lol! for a minute there I thought I was making people cry in a bad way!

Becksydee - your dp should use the photo's to complain if he hasn't done so already!!

He should be demanding compensation...

Good luck and I home he's feeling better soon!!

readyfornumber2and3 · 06/04/2009 14:12

Hi all not been on for a while as nothing to report!

I was supposed to be having my 20 week scan on thursday but had a phonecall this morning to say that they hadnt realised it was a twin pregnancy and therefore I needed a longer appointment at a different hospital as the scanning equipment was better (this woulndt be so bad if it wasnt for the fac that the appointment was made 7 weeks ago, after they discovered it was twins!!!)

My DP rang the mw as I have been feeling anxious for a couple of weeks about the scan (I was so niave with DS but this time im petrified something will go wrong) and she is going to ring me and hopefully come round with the doppler to check things out
I havent felt any movements yet and just cant get my head round the fact that there is 2 in there and I cant feel them!!

Sorry for the long rant Hope everyone else is ok and that all bumps are ok x

ameNbump · 06/04/2009 16:34

readyfornumber2and3 That's rubbish! How frustrating! Good Luck with MW.

Things have taken another rubbish twist with DP's ex...I have posted on the ste-parenting thread, so I'll try & stop raning on this thread, and concentrate on my little bump who wriggled its way all through my meeting this morning

OonaghBhuna · 06/04/2009 16:34

Thanks for all the kind messages about my cat. Well it looks like he has diabetes instead of kidney failure, which is a much better outcome. He is still at the vets as she has to give him insulin slowly. He will require two injections a day.So fingers crossed we will have him for a bit longer I have been so upset and have really missed him

I have a scan on Friday, its to look at the babies heart so its with a consultant. Its just a check up really they dont foresee any problems with the previous scans but its just to make sure due to problems in the past.
Havent had time to read all the posts, good luck to those having scans and yes I have insomnia too!

Haribosmummy · 06/04/2009 17:05

for Oonagh's cat!

lea1980 · 06/04/2009 18:20

hello all,
i feel a bit of a stranger, havent posted on here for ages!! try to keep up with whats happening but dont sem to get 5 spare minutes a day to read the posts!
so, i went for my 19 week scan on friday...its a girl! so, as my friend put it..possibly a perfect family.
edd stayed the same and all is well with our little girl..measurements are good, heartbeat is strong, blood flow fine blah blah blah.
sent the hubby into the attic today so all ds old clothes have been sorted into throw or sell piles, and a few have gone into could use for dd pile. very exciting because now i know that i can go out and spend my money on pink things and cute little dresses!!
as for names..we'd got that picked before we left the hospital car park... Macy Lily.
anyway, thats me caught up, nothing else to say really..im having a sickeningly easy pregnancy!!! (she says as she touches every peice of wood within touching distance of her sofa!!)
good luck to all those with up coming scans!

Oonagh our little cat had Diabetes for a bit - I HATED injecting him but it made a difference and after a couple of months it went away!

Readyfornumber2and3 How rubbish - I would be so upset - hope they sort it out and come see you soon!

Beckysdee Hope your DH is ok and can file a complaint/assault charges. That is appalling!

Had a lovely weekend clearing out the baby's room, went on a long walk and then nearly couldn't move last night because of it. I'm at a point where I feel that if I don't step up my exercising I won't be able to move in a few months - anyone else feel that way?

Am so looking forwards to a 4 day weekend

thoughtforms · 06/04/2009 18:42

Another one to add to the insomnia list. Oh lord, it came on bad last night - I've had a fairly busy week last week, including walking around central London (and going to the Tower of London - plenty of steps which killed my legs and hips), where I managed to completely tire myself out. By last night I couldn't sleep at all - not helped by the feelings of guilt as husband woke up when I did, and gave me hugs to try and make me feel better (he should have kept on sleeping!) - I even got up to have a bath at around 1am, in the hope it might help (it didn't).

Anyway, I managed a morning at work, before coming home feeling sick. Joy!

I'm convinced I'm feeling kicks now, and that's what kept me awake, although I've had plenty of anxious moments (hormones, I suspect), where I've insisted we get the doppler out to check on the little one.

Valz - we started doing research on what kind of pram we'd like this Saturday just gone. Thought we had it sussed (Maxi Cosi Streety), but now I've read a few bad reviews (it packs down nice and small, and you don't have to remove things to do that like you would with say, a Mamas & Papas one) - so I'd definitely say start looking around. Not sure where you are, but if you're around SW London, I'd recommend the A3 Baby Barn in Chessington - we must have spent about an hour and a half in there on Saturday - the girl who helped us was extremely helpful.

Oh, and I'm having some great baby brain moments, completely forgetting people's names. Usually people I've known for years, too (like family, or people I'm sat opposite at work). It's very odd...

YanknbeforetheCockcrows · 06/04/2009 19:50

Oonagh, glad your cat has something treatable! My family dog was diabetic for the last four years of her life (she was nearly 15 when she died). Everyone in the family, including my little brother (aged 10), learned how to give insulin shots. I can vividly remember running around after her in the yard trying to get a urine sample to test her sugar! She used to stand at the fridge and bark for her jab in the morning, weird huh? I'm just so pleased you will have more time with your pet.

Ready, how irritating!

Michaela, I've only put on 2 pounds (20 weeks tomorrow). But I started out about 6.5 stone overweight!

Becksydee, I really hope your DP will make a complaint, especially as he's got evidence!

Scan tomorrow. Can't believe the day is nearly here, seems like forever we've been waiting.

Longtalljosie · 06/04/2009 21:50

Hi everyone, just back from my gender scan (they don't tell you on the NHS in West Herts and we were impatient!) And it's a girl!

Beckysdee, your DP needs to contact the independent police complaints commission. And also the NUJ, even if he's not a member. This is something they keep a very close eye on. You're right, it's completely obvious who's a journalist at demos. I hope he recovers soon.

becksydee · 07/04/2009 00:06

thanks everyone for the supportive messages. my DP is an NUJ member, luckily, and his statement went off to their lawyers earlier today, so just waiting to hear back from them about what the next step is.

it could have been much much worse though - seems to be emerging now that the guy who died was beaten up by riot police DP has actually now ordered himself a helmet in UN blue with the word 'press' stencilled on front and back to wear on future demos! and is currently investigating various types of body armour/protective clothing. sad that he has to do that, but it'll keep him safe(r) and stop me having kittens every time he goes out to photograph any potentially volatile situations!

Haribosmummy · 07/04/2009 07:25

Longtalljosie - Whereabouts are you? I'm in West Herts too!!!

kitkatqueen · 07/04/2009 12:33

Two more days till my scan and I actually had almost a whole nights sleep!!! Yay Me!!! Sorry to everyone who has insomnia, but to be only woken up once in the night after 3 weeks of between 2 and 4 hours sleep just waking once was miraculous!! ah well, it'll never last...

Zorra · 07/04/2009 12:47

Yay, glad you slept through

I don't wake up in the night, not even to pee... I can't be the only pg woman who sleeps right through?

I am 23 weeks today, and finally told everyone at work so trying to decide what to do about my contract etc (long story, but am on an overseas posting)

When are other people planning to start maternity leave? My situation is quite specific, but I'd be interested to see how much time people think they need to prepare / feel they will really have had enough of work by?

YanknbeforetheCockcrows · 07/04/2009 13:54

Woo hoo! It's a BOY!

I feel a little guilty for being so thrilled about it. I don't dislike girls and am sure I would have been fine with that, but I was hoping for a boy and had an idea that's what it would be.

Didn't think we'd get to know at all. He (!) was asleep at first, with one leg over his head and the other bent behind him (foot covering the area in question). After getting prodded for a while, he had both legs curled up with both feet obscuring the view! Finally he shifted them and we got a VERY clear view of a little willy sticking up.

DH had an idea it would be a girl, but he didn't care either way. He's now wandering around saying 'Son' and smiling to himself.

DH had better sight of the monitor than I did. He also reckons years spent looking down an electron microscope makes him better at looking at contrast, so he seemed to see more than I did. Saw the little chin moving and sonographer confirmed he was drinking and his kidneys/bladder were working.

I do wish someone had said baby would look like Skeletor when facing straight ahead! A bit freaky!

My placenta is in front, so that explains why I go days without feeling anything at all.

I am sooooo pleased. Can't believe I have to wait 20 weeks to meet him though!

valz · 07/04/2009 14:07

hi ladies, its soo weird only last week i realised the wee twitches in my stomach were the babies because they had become more frequent but this past two days ive actually felt an odd one with my hand on my stomach, i keep askin my husband to feel it but by the time he does they quit. could it be possible to actually feel movements through the skin at 21 weeks?

Thanks on the reccommendation on the shopping for baby stuff, thinks i'll start researching. thoughtforms i live in Ireland so i'll have to suss the good spots for baby stuff, any mothercares etc in the local towns havent a great range for twins as they dont seem to hold much stock.

2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 07/04/2009 15:17

Afternoon ladies. Just a quick post to say hello and I hope most of you are getting to enjoy the sunshine before it disappears! It was a lovely day in SW London yesterday and both DSs had a ball charging about the common and in the garden.

I had my appointment with the fetal cardiology dept and it took about 10 mins to get the all clear! Lord knows what the last 3 sonographers were looking at!!!

I spent last night catching up on all the posts but have forgotten much it now. Hope Becksydee's DH recovers quickly and I reiterate what others have said about making a complaint. Hope Crafty is feeling better/more upbeat soon. I can't believe that DS2 is 2 on Sunday either, time flies!

Good luck to those with scans still to come. Roll on the next 4 months, not that I am impatient to have to cope with 3 DCs but I am keen to meet my little lady!

May67 · 07/04/2009 15:42

Becksydee- agree with everyone, how terrible, hope it heals quickly. It's so scary the way the police are treating photographers lately, they arrested a guy in London and held him for days under the terrorism act because he was taking arty photos of drain covers. The link was on boingboing.net somewhere.

All fine here, except for a horrible pain under my ribs on the left, going to get it checked out this afternoon. I expect it's things stretching but it's getting so painful today. My 20 week scan was all fine, probably a girl but babes was being very modest and managed to do several full flips without opening its legs at all! DH maintains that if it was a boy of his then they definitely would have seen something! Cue muffled laughter. So we're going with girl, which means we don't have to buy anything new, yay!

BabyBump2B · 07/04/2009 17:15

Congrats on the boy Yank! Am at people finding out! I am crossing fingers (but not working myself into a state like last time) that we'll find out at the 3D ultrasound on Thursday.

I decided to start getting up earlier to exercise and this morning did Gabrielle Reece's Fit & Healthy pregnancy workout - OMG was SO hard. Can't believe how much strength I've lost! I already hurt so am doomed for tomorrow!

Zorra I'm not sure about work - people keep asking me when I'm going to leave and my standard reply is whenever the baby or the midwife tells me to. That said with DH out of work the plan is to work up to as close to my due date as possible. I'm a planner so already have most stuff sorted out. I know WAY too many people who have left sorting out nurseries, prams, car seats until after 30 weeks only to go into labour early and have to panic to get stuff done.

craftynclothy · 07/04/2009 17:33

Yank - congrats on the scan.

2HCB - yay for getting the ok with the baby's heart.

Zorra - Slightly different situation here as I'm self-employed and work from home so I don't have to start at any particular time but I'm starting from 29 weeks so I get my MA from then and can use it for the IM. Dh is going to look after the business in his spare time while I'm on maternity leave and I'll probably do one day a month as keeping in touch days where I sort out anything special he has to do that month.

Feeling happier here, saw doc yesterday with mw and discussed a plan forward. Basically doc thought I didn't need ADs yet and also said that most of the ones suitable for pregnancy make you sleepy and as I'm sleeping ok at the moment she said to hold off for as long as possible really. Am waiting for another mw to get back to me about how they can help and also one of the supervisors at the hospital to organise a debrief session for the last birth - I think that will be the most useful.
