oh and finally worked out why DS has been grumpy and unsettled - he's teething again (last set of molars nearly through) and has conjunctivitis. Much better after a dollop of Calpol last night. I put the nativity scene out yesterday and he has been carrying around the baby Jesus, occasionally shouting 'WAKE UP BABY' - will have to train him out of that one

Verso · 08/12/2008 10:00

Was nearer 4 hours by the time she'd finished feeding, but I don't want to split hairs!

effie lol @ DS and baby Jesus. We got ours down from the loft the other week but we're not doing Christmas stuff until next weekend so it hasn't gone up yet. Am really looking forward to getting a tree, though I doubt it will be a nine-foot spectacular!

Currently waiting for a ringback (within 2 hours they said) from the register office so we can go and make DD2 official. Don't these people understand the concept of calendars and appointments?!

emmanbump · 08/12/2008 10:21

Morning All,

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Lost my internet connection yesterday so it's taken me a while to catch up.

Hope you have nice birthdays SL and Veggie

I must have been in sympathy with everyone waking for the night feeds last night as I had terrible insomnia. Can't believe I am getting insomnia now I have packed my bag and am actually ready for the baby.

I am supposed to be cleaning the bathroom but have only managed to take all the junk out and then sit on MN for a bit. oh well back to it. . .. .

SummerLightning · 08/12/2008 10:33

verso glad you had a good night!! Good to hear you back on form!

I am going to try and sort my christmas shopping today!! Did some on Amazon yesterday, but need to do more..

We got our christmas tree, this year we have a tiny 2 ft one, I put my foot down, we usually have a massive 6 ft+ one, but with the birth pool and lots of other stuff in the lounge/dining room, I said no!!! Feel like a scrooge now as DH loves his big christmas tree.
Not decorated it yet either.

Purple79 · 08/12/2008 10:55

Hello again ladies, have not been on for quite some time - have missed far too many threads to catch up! I
But Congratulations to all who've had their beautiful babies.

I'm still @ work unfortunately.. boo!! official leaving day is this fri 12th - that's if i'll go that far, have been having a couple of 'twinges' always in the evening.... does that mean anything???

Hope everyone is well. xxx

waitinggirl · 08/12/2008 11:05

have LOVED the MIL comments - glad to know it's not only me with a MENTALIST for a MIL

to those not sleeping, whether with babies or without, my commiserations. my cold took real hold this weekend and i have been struggling not to cough or sneeze this baby out. and the mantra of "i must sleep i must sleep before the baby arrives" has resulted in, of course, terrible insomnia.

btw - thanks to those who suggested babymattressesonline - i ordered the 2 mattresses on friday and they arrived today both a PERFECT fit and how's that for service!

btw#2 - is anyone else frustrated that moses basket fitted sheets don't sodding fit? we got ours from john lewis and they are way too big - i mean, i can tuck them under, but surely that isn't the point. also, they fit the pram mattress as well, so all the pram sized fitted sheets i was encouraged to buy are now too big and useless. grrrr, JL (whom i love normally). sorry, that was a rant.

i'm really sorry people are having problems with bfing - but it is so useful to hear what is going on and prepare ourselves for what also might be a tricky situation - verso, lal and mibbes - thanks for letting us know your trials and tribulations, and good luck with whatever solutions you find.

beans and penny suspiciously absent over the weekend - have they sprogged?

Beans33 · 08/12/2008 11:19

Hello all.

Haven't read any posts in a while as I've had a little girl! Isabella Sarah arrived on Saturday at 7.10pm, weighing 6lb 13oz. She is gorgeous with little fuzzy mop of light brown hair. I'm crying now - she's just lovely!

Very easy labour and despite thinking I really wanted an epidural, I managed not to! Will post my birth story soon, but for now just concentrating on her! So exciting and terrifying. Sore nipples already, but think she's getting some food!

Congratulations Beans!!!
That is a lovely name and weight.

The scan this morning showed that BabyKayz is the right way round and is still head down. So I am quite happy here. Just want him to come now.

I really hope everyone is ok. I am feeling really tired despite sleeping nearly all night. I am at the consultant this afternoon at the time DS and I normally have a nap.

EffiePerine · 08/12/2008 11:29

Congratulations Beans

Congratulations Beans how lovely - glad everything went well. x

kayzisexpecting · 08/12/2008 11:38

I think I might have started craving Dime Bars. I went into the cupboard to get something else and saw a bag of the mini ones and I just had to have some.

waitinggirl · 08/12/2008 11:40

yay yay beans - hurrah for you and baby izzy! looking forward to the birthstory.

thx, emmanbump - getting better... slowly...

traceface · 08/12/2008 11:41

ooooh another baby!!!! Congratulations Beans! What a gorgeous name - enjoy her!!

Turnip - my DH abandoned me for the spare room (baby's room to be!) several months ago!

Kayz - glad babykayz is the right way round - hope all goes well this aft - could they not have given you a scan and a consultant appointment at the same time to save you going twice? That would have been to sensible I suppose!

Verso - glad you're a bit brighter this morning. Hope you have a good feeding day. I remember the baby phase lasting a long time...I think waiting for that first smile seems like ages, then when it comes you suddenly realise they know you and respond to you and things change! DD1 didn't smile till 4 months coz she was so early and it seemed like for ever, but once she did it it was amazing!!! It makes them real little people! You are not a bad mother at all - this motherhood thing is hard!! I was at a friend's the other day and there was a newborn there, and I had no desire to hold him at all - I was really uninterested!!! What does that say about me?!!!

Oli - I have a girl cousin who is spelt Frances

Mibbles - very cute Evan pics!!! Hope you're feeling ok today.

Veggie - I know my baby is a girl and we've even chosen a name, but I still refer to it as 'it'!!!

I have been stopped in my tracks twice this morning by really sudden stabbing pains really low in my pelvis, but I guess it's probably the baby moving.
Well I had a mini-break down yesterday!!! I was getting dd's tea ready and managed to knock a plate of sandwiches and crisps onto the floor (no great disaster, admittedly!)but it tipped me over the edge! I retreated to the bedroom in floods of tears. DH brought me a cuppa and then we arranged another family meal for this Thursday evening to make up for the one I missed yesterday - which was probably why I was so silly and easily upset yesterday! So we're off for Pizza on Thursday evening! Then he rang his mum and arranged for her to have dd from tuesday night till wednesday afternoon so I can have a lie in on Wed!!! How nice! Saw CPN again this morning and appeared more sane today so that's good - happy pills doing their job nicely!
Sorry for this massive post!

JollyBear · 08/12/2008 11:49

Morning all,

mibbes Evan is gorgeous! Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with breastfeeding. Please don't beat yourself up about it though, especially after you ended up with such a dramatic birth.

PD Congratulations! . Can't wait to hear all the details.

hatty Hope you got the nursery sorted without too much upset.

Abby Not long for us now! A week today... eek!

verso Glad DD2 is sleeping a bit better, long may it last.

veggie Happy birthday! Sounds like you had a fantastic day.

Beans Fantastic news! What a lovely name.

Is anyone else finding their days busier since they started maternity leave?! I've lists of things to sort out before next week. One of my tasks for today is to finish putting the christmas decorations up though . That's a fun job!

congratulations Beans. Glad the birth went well.

Jolly One week - feels like a year! I'm going in for pre-op today so am arming myself with loads of questions. 6 and a bit days...

Beans what lovely news! Congratulations! And a lovely name too .

I have had quite a few issues about BF (ghosts from having DD and failing to feed after a very traumatic week) and so I posted on breastfeeding in anticipation of the birth next week. Can I just support what others have said on here - the ladies on that topic are fantastic and I was directed to NCT. I've just had a conversation for an hour with a lovely lady and I feel much more confident; it's also helped me to understand what went wrong with DD. So, if anyone needs help do try the NCT helpline, and post on the feeding topic on MN.

Bisou · 08/12/2008 12:23

JB I know what you mean about being busier on maternity leave... today I sewed 2 lots of curtains and yesterday & the day before the fitted sheets for the cot mattress. Tomorrow we're going out to get a variety of stuff for the baby & house (including a room thermometer so we can keep an eye on the temperature in bub's room) and I also want to get one of those baby monitor things. Can anyone recommend any good ones? I was given some Tomy ones but they are not working so don't know if I should go for a different brand or not.

On a happy note, the Australian tax office has processed my return and electronically deposited my A$7200 just 10 days after submitting my return! Very impressed, and the money will come in handy for Christmas prezzies for nephews/nieces etc.

WG I'm so glad you got your mattresses, they sound fab. Annoying about the pram sheets though - have you still got the packaging & receipts? I'd take them back for a refund. I'm sure JL would be good about a return if you let them know you were misinformed by a sales person. Actually, it's your statutory right too - if they do not 'fit the purpose' as described then you should be able to return them, although it can get tricky if they have been washed or used. More info on stat rights here if you need it. Ps: if I was still in London I'd get out ma sewing machine & make the moses basket ones fit for you

kayzisexpecting · 08/12/2008 12:27

Trace I wish I could have had both appointments together, but I had the scan at Malton Hospital and see the consultant at the GP surgery. I really wish I could cancel it as I don't quite feel up to the walk there. Also it is still pretty icy here.

DH has been told that their jobs are safe until January but after that the bosses don't know yet. Which is good I suppose.
