simmo My mom sent me an email a few days ago and it was saying to put Vick's VapoRub on the bottoms of your feet and then put on socks and cover up with a blanket. The email said it would help to stop your cough within 5 minutes. I've never tried it on my feet... but I have tried it on my chest when I had a really bad cold and it works wonders for opening up your nose, stopping cough etc. I think you can get Vick's at Boots.

Turniphead1 · 07/12/2008 18:56

Veggie - happy birthday! Sounds like a lovely day out. I am also impressed that YOU walked all that way, too. Enjoy your iTouch! Also, unless something dramatic happens - you won't share your b'day with your new baby which I know you were keen to avoid. So keep those legs crossed til midnight!

LadyT I have no idea whether its a good idea to engage in sex stuff so soon after a section, but as others have said, I am most impressed you can entertain the thought!Do hope your scar settles soon.

Jump I am most impressed by how "cheery" your MiL is. I defo think she would win a dismal MiL sweepstake (but from memory your may have some competetion from Kayz? Sorry Kayz if I have mixed you up with someone else and your MiL is divine...)

A general (but heartfelt) HUG to all those , Jump Katie et al up during the night, esp Verso who I know is finding it particularly tough. I remember it so well (kind of...) but think it was just the desolate feeling of every other b*gger being fast asleep tucked up in bed. I remember feeling very lonely on occasion. Always used my Mum's mantra - this too will pass, this too will pass...

simmo I love Allanah any spelling really. I can't think your Mum would mind - he was your Dad after all - but prob best to for warn her.

Mibbes well done on the expressing. You never know you may be able to reestablish b'fing. But either waym, be kind to yourself. You are doing such a good job and with either type of milk your DS is going to thrive!

Arti I still think you might be for the off quite soon, girl! All sounds promising!

Oli how odd about the girl smoking. Even if you were having the odd sneaky one when pg, you wouldn't think you would do it out in public....I am the same of you, when having a glass of wine in public I always feel judged, but then think "sod em!"

Hatty hope your DH got the nursery cleared before you had a pop!

trace so sorry about your plans for a nice evening. But glad your BP OK. Hope the headache has passed.

We had a very busy weekend. Our christmas tree was delivered - and it was 9 foot tall (We order from this co. and it's within a range of height - and last year must have been a good foot smaller). It is lovely but took AGES to decorate - and shed needles everywhere...Looks fab though as we have very tall ceilings in our front room. But have put coca cola into its holder as recommended by some lovely person on this thread - thanks! Hopefully that will see it through an entire month!

We went to Selfridges today to see Father Christmas. It was lovely and the DC really enjoyed it. Selfridges was rammed (I was kind of hoping everyone would be at Westfield...). And when we were shopping for a new phone the man offered me a stool to sit on. It really makes me feel happy when people are kind like that when you are heavily pregnant. Some other people can be so rude!

Well another week coming up!!! Hmmm how many babies will we produce? Should be getting up to bumper levels this week and next! I am pretty convinced I will go well beyond my Xmas eve due date....

kayzisexpecting · 07/12/2008 19:16

Turnip You are right about MIL, she really does come out with priceless stuff. Her BF comments are possibly Oscar winning material. I think she means well(maybe) but it is so stupid.

Just a quick one as M is crying - Mibbes, if you want to re establish BF, there are lots of things you can do. I don't want to seem pushy but hadn't realised that you were still expressing. Do you want to give me a bell as I have some suggestions? If so, let me know and I'll email you my number. Big love to you sweetie - you're doing so well!

XXXX

Olipop · 07/12/2008 19:55

Evening!!!
I'm so glad so many of you feel the same about smoking as I do.....I was a bit worried that I'd overstepped the nonjudging line and was goign to get told off when I logged back on!

Chutney I LOVE the two Tana Ramsay books I have got. They are sometimes a bit iffy on the editorial front (things in the ingredients list that are not mentioned in the recipe etc) but I have never used cook books so much.

Kayz and JJ - your MIL's are priceless!!!

Simmo I'd go with Alannah and I think it is a lovely idea.
On the same slant...Frances for a girl, is it Francis or Frances?

Catdean - I forgot - you were in Twickenham today weren't you!

Veggie Happy birthday!

And restful nights to all of you!!

Veggiemummy · 07/12/2008 20:24

Cat up til this year we have had a fake tree that was 2ft I bought it online and got feet confused with meters so was a bit sad when it was so small. But we left it behind in London and bought a real one this year that is 6 ft, it is lovely but I have to go out tomorrow and buy more decorations because the we don't have enough to cover such a big tree.

Veggiemummy · 07/12/2008 20:27

oh and Turnip i managed to get a tree that is non shedding it cost a little more but I figured it would be worth it with with new baby around.

Verso · 07/12/2008 20:55

We're not getting our tree til next week so I'm very of those of you with them already!

catdean your plastic sheeting story made me giggle - and of course I'm now wondering how on earth you could use it in a 'pervy' way!!

Does anyone with DCs already actually remember when the baby stage becomes fun? I'm trying to set myself wee milestones to keep myself going... DD2 really isn't that much trouble, to be honest, but I just don't particularly enjoy the baby stage... >sigh< Love love love all the later stages though - DD1 is amazingly fab!

(You will probably all think I'm a Bad Mother now - but just need to vent.)

mibbes · 07/12/2008 21:01

Veggie happy birthday !

jj PMSL at your MIL's comments !

Olipop I saw a woman in the street smoking a few weeks ago and she was heavily pregnant. I am not one for taking a stand but I was so tempted to go up and rip it from her mouth . Ahem, sorry, calm down mibbes !

CatDean LOL at the mental image you create of your unfiltered preggy pics ! I'm sure they are stunning. I just have a succession of weekly pics of me flashing my belly !

chutney I will look up your email address on the list and be in touch, not sure I'd manage to chat on the phone without blubbing though ! I find the whole not BF-ing very difficult. Am a member of NCT and have been reluctant to call them for support as I am afraid that if it still doesn't work out I'll feel like I've failed all over again and I can't bear the upset and guilt. I tried the skin to skin earlier but as soon as I put him near my breast he screams - am sure he has a fear of breasts thanks to some pushy MWs - poor wee man ! Thanks so much for the offer of support.

mibbes · 07/12/2008 21:04

OMG Veggie I laughed so much at your mini-tree ! Please stop all this amusing chat, those of us with CS wounds can't laugh without lots of pain !!!!

Veggiemummy · 07/12/2008 21:11

verso I loved DS' baby stage but I think that was mostly out of surprise really as a paedatric nurse I always hated looking after babies so didn't think I would like that bit with DS. But having said that I'm a bit worried that I will find it boring this time cos DS is so much fun and interactive.

Oh DH has put the mighty Boosh on for me so I can get my Noel Fielding fix.

Veggiemummy · 07/12/2008 21:14

oh that's not a good sign I just called veggiebaby 'it'

EffiePerine · 07/12/2008 21:31

Verso: I found things settled down a lot after about 6 weeks, but TBH most of that first year is a blur - I did love the tiny baby stage but it is SO much easier now DS can communicate and actually tell me what he wants! I was never much good at 'reading' his cries and cues and all the rest of it and muddled along. I'm sure every baby is different, but after the first month or so I think your hormones would be settling down and you'd be recovering physically, which makes a lot of difference. Glad last night was an improvement and fingers crossed for tonight . Feeding sounds good!

Mibbes: also didn't hoick in the fact that you;re expressing, might well be an idea to try and get DS back onto the boob as it would make things easier, but it does sound like you're getting plenty of milk anyway. Skin to skin is a good idea, as is having a bath together (relaxing plus helps your supply). Just get your DH to hand him over and take him away again as you get in and out .

JJ: love the MIL comments, read them out to DH who is now convinced she is related to his family . Anyway, she is wrong because Monday's child is fair of face as any fule kno. Wednesday's child is reportedly full of woe (I was born on a Wed, though am a lot more optimistic than most of my dour Lincolnshire family!).

Thanks for all the suggestions on names, some of which were on our list last night . The German/English ting is because the first name is German/European and would work well with similar names. For those still searching for boy's names, Oscar, Conrad and Gilbert were pretty high on the list but we couldn't make them work, so ave gone back to our first choices which sound rather belligerent but will do unless inspiration strikes. Not sure why we're stressing over it, the kid will prob never use his middle names anyway.

Veggie: glad you had a nice birthday. Trace: sorry you had a dull hospital stay, but better safe than sorry . Kayz: any signs yet

I have two days left then am FINALLY on mat leave! Hooray! Def time to go as I am contemplating GBH on several of my colleagues (blame pg hormones).

Oh and DH got my labour bag food supplies, but substituted a box of Quality Street for the selection box. Can I take Nestle products into a maternity suite?

EffiePerine · 07/12/2008 21:34

x-post Mibbes: if you don't want to speak to anyone on the phone, start a thread in Breast and Bottlefeeding here, there are several trained BFCs and MWs who post regularly and will be able to help .

kayzisexpecting · 07/12/2008 21:47

Absolutely nothing here. Its not going to happen until my Dad goes back home. It's all his fault I tell you.

Just remembered I have an appointment with my consultant tomorrow. So I am going to have to struggle to the doctors on my own with DS as DH is at work. I also have my scan in the morning, looking forward to seeing BabyKayz though I'd rather see him properly.

Maybe it will happen overnight.

Hope you have a good night Verso and of course to everyone on here. Myabe there will be another baby by the time I get up.

Night.

mibbes · 07/12/2008 22:11

Oh I can't remember if I said but I've posted photos of baby Evan on my profile .

Veggiemummy · 07/12/2008 22:26

Mibbes he's lovely he looks like a little doll. Hey in regards to the skin to skin time, don't just do it to try feed. First off just have some quiet time in bed with at least your top off and him just in his nappy and just have him on your chest in comfirtable position for you laying down or propped up on pillows. let him sleep like that and have some time to yourself with him. Then when it comes time for his next feed slide him up near your boob and let him have a smell if he's not interested fine but feed him skin to skin anyway (in a comfortable position for you) this may or may not reestablish the BF but it is good for both of you to have sometime together like this and in some cases can help the feeding. I hope that makes sense.

Veggiemummy · 07/12/2008 22:35

oh and I think you mentioned the nct if you want some help to try again I would give them a go or your local bf counsellor. At the end of the day they can only support and advise you it's up to you how you go on from there so don't feel guilty about your decisions only u know what's best for (gorgeous) Evan.

Oh I have seen him and I want mine now. Out of tradition I read out the week chapter we are up to in our rough guide to pregnancy to DH the night before that week starts. Tomorrow is the start of week 39 so that's what I read tonight. It is quite exciting because we never got a chance to read week 40 last time because I went into labour with DS 2 days early. I wonder if we will get to read week 40 next Sunday night.

SummerLightning · 07/12/2008 22:35

Hello everyone, just a quick post from me as I am struggling to keep up with being out most of the weekend!

Happy birthday veggie, glad you had a good day!

Congratulations to mibbes (though I think I said that ages ago, but you would not have been online then!), katie and poisondwarf on new arrivals!!

artichokes I hope you are feeling better if you think things may be happening??

cat my DH got asked what plastic sheeting was for when he went to get some from B&Q so he just told them! Apparently the young lad didn't look that shocked!

And i hope everyone struggling with new arrivals has a good night, especially verso!

lal07 · 07/12/2008 22:42

happy birthday veggie sounds like a lovely day.
mibbes he's a smasher.
still really sore to bf. sigh. verso are those silver things any good?

Verso · 08/12/2008 06:35

Didn't settle til midnight - but then slept to 5am!

Sense of humour and perspective restored

kayzisexpecting · 08/12/2008 06:47

Morning,

Verso That is great. I'm so glad you got a decent nights sleep.

Mibbes He is gorgeous!! Makes me want BabyKayz to come even more when I see pictures of all the babies.

I slept quite well last night. I only had 1 trip to the toilet for a change. BabyKayz was being really active when I woke up this morning.

Hope everyone is ok this morning.

Turniphead1 · 08/12/2008 09:09

Kayz I am most jealous of your one wee trip night last night. Well done! I did 4 or 5 kind of lost count. DH has decided he can't sleep with me so has moved to the spare room. TBH it's better for me too, as I tend to be disrupted by him snoring during my precious intervals of an hour and a half...but still, it's a bit sad.

Verso so glad that DD2 did a 5 hour stretch last night. It's amazing what a little chunk of sleep can do!

LAL sorry bf is still hurting you. It shouldn't be really. Have you seen anyone to check your latch? You know this I am sure, but pain is normally caused when the nipple isn't far enough back in baby's mouth - it can sometimes help to make sure that baby's lip is further back on your aerola (ie away from the nipple and towards baby's chin) if that makes any sense at all...

Need to check our due list to see who is "up" this week. Penny I know is overdue (unless she had her baby at the weekend). Do we have any scheduled sections this week!?

EffiePerine · 08/12/2008 09:24

Verso: 5 hours - woohoo! Isn't that technically sleeping through?

Lal: I think there'e a difference between sore and painful, but def a good idea to get your latch checked. Are you using Lansinoh or a similar cream thing?

Penultimate day at work here and last meeting . Then I need to get started on ML stuff, including writing my birth plan, finishing DH's jumper and hopefully finishing another baby cardigan.

Hope everyone had a good weekend
