Verso: hope things continue to improve on the BF front. The silver things do sound odd, but hey if they work...

Cat: we are also on series 4 of the Wire, watching 2-3 episodes a night so we're whizzing through. I think it's the best yet, and certainly one of the funniest. Lots of Lester which is cheering me immensely . Only 1 series to go after this one

Katie: I think you're def in the front running for biggest baby! We never did get the sweepstake organised, how about...

biggest baby
shortest labour
best labour story
best postnatal story (MILs may figure strongly here)
best birth partner story (again, Katie in the running with her fainting DH)
Xmas baby
NY Eve baby
best gem of advice from a health professional

can't think of any more...

effie what is a silverette, i don't understand?

EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 22:39

hang on I linked to them further down

here you are
www.breastfeedingheaven.co.uk/silverette/prod_2.html

no idea if they work, but some people swear by them

reban · 04/12/2008 22:49

finally managed to catch up on this thread but again i missed the last couple of days off the last thread so hoping everything is well with everyone.

Wow Katie i think you may well win biggest baby of the thread, hope all ok and goes well with breastfeeding.

Well we think we have found our new car. Went to see it yesterday and they have accepted an offer on it. Just got to go and test drive tmw and fill in the paperwork and then will be the proud owner of a 7 seater Citroen C8 - horray for actual space in the car (and room enough for all the children!!)

On a side point, thise of you who are having/had a c-section please, please, please insist on proper post-natal care. I know i have not had a c-section but a lot of friends have and quiet a few have ended up with nasty, prolonged infections which have been overlooked. So i dont want to scare anyone, but just please take care as they can be quite unpleasant and hinder recovery.

Ok enough of the 'mum' lecture - ill be telling you all to wrap up warm soon! take care lovely ladies and will log on tomorrow
xx

Veggiemummy · 04/12/2008 22:50

oh but what happens on a cold day does the silver get cold. I have a silver allergy so couldn't use them. I guess they work by using the silver to reduce infection or reduce the risk of infection. We use silver infused creams in paeds nursing for burns and infected wounds. oh also i guess if they do get cold might feel quite nice on sore boobs.

I have seen also that you can get breastpads that are kind of like a silicon suction cups. Instead of breastpads that absorb the milk that squirts out these things put pressure on to stop them leaking.

Veggiemummy · 04/12/2008 22:55

actually have i missed a post from Lady T i hope her suture line is ok. Verso you also said your line was a bit inflammed. take care. You can also get those belts that you can put ice in, does that help.

Veggiemummy · 04/12/2008 23:54

it's late and DH and i should be in ed, but instead we decided to embark on the name thing again. So far DH has typed out all the names we have come up with so far and the trid the list in several different fonts, i'm not quite sure why he is doing the later, maybe a clear winner will stand out in sans serif rather than ariel or verdana.

i have looked up Italian names again on google as we would love an italian name but they generally end in 'o' which matches badly with our surname. so we have basically gotten no where with this exercise.

I think the rest of you are in bed which is where we should be so i am going to drag DH away from searching for the perfect font-name combination and hit the sack.

Olipop · 05/12/2008 06:37

Just bookmarking and going back to read everyones news! Hope all is ok. x

rosmerta · 05/12/2008 06:54

morning all, I seem to be waking up on the dot of 6am atm. Though having said that, ds ended up in our bed last night & I've spent most of it trying not to cough so not to disturb him or dh. I'm hoping its better today as my chest and throat were really very sore and painful yesterday. Oh well, my mum & dad are coming down today so they will look after ds for a bit so I can get some more rest. Right, that's enough whingeing from me!

katie congratulations on your georgeous dd!

verso a quiet cheer from me as well!

veggie we're struggling with names as well. We have a girl's name but just can't agree on a boy's! Lol at font-inspiration though

reban well done on the car!

No more movements/pain, wonder if my body is going to wait until I'm better before starting labour?

Nolda · 05/12/2008 08:07

Congratulations Donnylass and Katie. Katie I hope very much I won't be in close competition with you for the biggest baby!

Well, it's my due date today and inconviently my DH has really bad 'flu. He has a temperature of 39.8. Hopefully, won't have to fallback on plan B if I go into labour as not really sure what plan B is. Also hope I don't catch it.

Verso · 05/12/2008 08:20

Like the list, effie! veggie yes the silver gets very cold - which is very nice when you're sore! No sign of them working as yet though which is probably because DD2 fed from 8pm to 11pm last night and then again from 4am to 7:30am . Am knackered.

Trying to get through to GP for appointment to see if DD2 and I can get treated for boob thrush. Oh the glamour! the glamour!

V fed up today - but probably just tired. Congratulations to katie and well done on producing such a bonny baby (as they used to say ).

Love the idea I may become some kind of post-c/s breastfeeding guru. Not feeling very guru-like at present. Nearest I'm getting to a higher plane of existence is contemplating a nap once I get through to the blooming GP and get an appointment time!

Olipop · 05/12/2008 08:30

Phewy...much neglected DS after all that catching up! Quick post coming up before getting us dressed for swimming lession (glad it is the penultimate one...getting to BIG to get in and out and do 'here we go round the swimming pool'!)

Congratulations Donny, Mibbes and Katie on your babies!

Arti so sorry you have been so poorly - there is so much of it about.

Thank you for all the birth stories..very lovely to hear!

I think that my body has started to give up on me. Something serious has happened to my pelvis, right at the front. It is ok in the day but in the middle of the night it is like it has completely seperated. I can't move from whatever position I am in and DH has to lift my knees and tip me over. Sounds funny (and is) but also very painful. Last night I terrified him by getting a really bad cramp (always managed to catch it just before it kicked in before) and being unable to move due to pelvis. He had to rouse from sleep, tip me over, rub my leg, push me out of bed so I could hop around the bedroom swearing! Today is his works Christmas do (well, the first one anyway!) and he was saying last night 'please don't have the baby tomorrow' and lo and behold I scare the bejesus out of him!!! Hehehehe!
Right must go and get us ready and swim bag packed!
Ta ta....no doubt I'll come back to three million posts!!!!

kayzisexpecting · 05/12/2008 08:41

Morning,

Congrats Katie She is gorgeous and a great weight.

Still feeling a bit dizzy so we're trying to get a GP out to see me. I don't feel stable enough to walk there with all the ice. All the snow has melted but then frozen overnight.

So now I have to sit and wait for them to ring back and hope they will send someone.

Hope everyone is ok.

Turniphead1 · 05/12/2008 08:51

Morning all

Kayz hope you get seen soon. Doesn't sound very pleasant.

Kaite well done on baby Liliana. She is what they call in Ireland a "fine baby" (means lovely and robust in that sense!). Well done you.

Donny congrats on your new arrival.

verso hope the b'fing continues to improve. Intrigued the the silverette things!

I am about to enquire into hiring a kneeler rocker - apparently they can help get the baby into the optimal postition (babyT still back to back). Here is a link on Optimal Foetal Positioning if anyone is interested.

I had a lovely lunch with Kimberley yesterday at the hospital we are both at. It was great to meet another Dec lady and find she was as nice in RL as on the thread.

I am feeling weepy and sad today. Combination of the 4 year anniversary of my Mum's death on wednesday and just general hormones etc. Think I will go back to bed and see does that help .

Good day all.

chutneymary · 05/12/2008 08:59

Girls, I am back . HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOO to you all.

Am feeling so cheery. My trip to St T's was fab, bar yesterday when we had a huge palaver over discharge as M had jaundice. He's been tangoed! I had to put on a pair of stroppy knickers at about 5pm and say I was going AMA unless I got someone to tell me the benefits of staying in but happily all was resolved and we made our escape and were home by 9. Girls thrilled with their new brother.

He fed well in the night and we co slept (partly as I hadn't made up the moses basket before I left!). Feeding going generally well but nips a bit sore so shall be watching my latch carefully. Hope all others who are BF are doing well too (sorry, I haven't read the last day or so's posts, so I hope that's not crashingly insensitve).

Will read properly and try to post something sensible later on. Can I just say now that reading all your posts on my bedside TV thing really kept me entertained and I was really touched by all the lovely messages and emails for us. I think this is such a wonderful bunch of women - we have homebirthers, elective sectioners, BFs and bottle feeders etc, and everyone is so supportive of others' choices etc even though they are all different. I feel very lucky to be here. I am drifting into doing an Academy Award Gwyneth Paltrow style acceptance speech now so I'll be off. Good birth vibes to those waiting, good mummying vibes to those on the other side and my love to everyone XXXXXX

daisydora · 05/12/2008 09:09

katie congratulations on your beautiful baby girl.

Ahh chutney you have just brought a tear to my eye! but you are right of course

verso glad to hear there is no news on the bf. Hope you manage to get some more sleep today. DD was a nightmare for cluster feeding, DS is better at the mo...won't say anymore for fear of a jinx....

Have MW coming this morning and am hoping to get dischrged, and then have HV on Monday am. If she is anything like last time I might be in the running for 'best gem of advice from a health professional'. At least this time I know enough to ignore some of the crap she spouted

Hope everyone has a good day

EffiePerine · 05/12/2008 09:17

Lovely to see you Chutney and well done for insisting on being discharged. We got to that stage with DS, no reason for us to stay in but no-one to do the paperwork. We had to threaten to walk out and eventually sprung ourselves at about 10pm - so lovely to finally get home!

Kayz: hope you get the GP out today.

Verso: ouch for the thrush. Make sure the GP treats your DD as well (bet you know this anyway). The long feeds sound knackering, so get all the rest you can! Did you get your postnatal doula in the end? Any good?

Oli: the pelvis thing sounds v v painful. I'm getting lots of aches in the front of mine when I walk, think it's the baby pressing on something. Maybe the swimming will shift things around a bit.

Sorry for all those struggling with colds and flu (and with fluey DHs - how inconsiderate!)

EffiePerine · 05/12/2008 09:18

so for the sweepstake tbus far...

biggest surprise
biggest baby
shortest labour
best labour story
best postnatal story (MILs may figure strongly here)
best birth partner story (again, Katie in the running with her fainting DH)
Xmas baby
NY Eve baby
best gem of advice from a health professional

missmama · 05/12/2008 09:22

Yay I have caught up!

Have you all got no work to go to

Congratulations to all the new Mummies . Its all so exciting.

Katie I hope you are the winner of the biggest baby award,
My midwife has me booked in to see the consultant next Thursday to discuss induction for a big baby.
I am measuring 42 weeks at 37 and she is now worried that I am also Hypertensive (sp?) but I am to play on this for the consultant, with the Oedema and headaches they will not let me go over. Which suits me fine at the moment.

I am not yet fed up with being pregnant, and TBH it is only just this week that I have slowed down and started to think that I really am pregnant so should take things easier, instead of walking the 4 miles to school and back every day and shopping trips and such.

emmanbump · 05/12/2008 09:25

Congratulations Katie!

zoejeanne · 05/12/2008 09:47

Good morning ? and congratulations to Katie , what a whopper! And her picture is lovely too.

LOL at veggie?s DH trying out different fonts for potential names!

Kayz/verso I hope you both get appointments with the Dr quickly

Chutney ? you sound very happy to be home and delighted with your new DS

Effie ? love the sweepstake list!

I'm going swimming now and then to a BF preparation class, have a good day everyone x

traceface · 05/12/2008 09:57

I'm in awe of all you ladies who are still swimming, walking miles etc... good on you!
Turnip - big hugs to you xxxx
Kayz - did you say your ear was sore too? That cold account for your dizziness so hopefully if you ever get seen some antibiotics should do the trick. (fingers crossed)
Katie congratulations!!!!!!!
Veggie - LOL at the fonts!!!! DH and I have finally decided on a first and middle name for this baby...I was making a little birth announcement card on the computer (minus a few as-yet-unknown details of course!) and included the name, and DH thought it looked really good written down and is really happy with it, so maybe it 's not so crazy to write it down after all!

I think the sweepstake idea is fab!

Well must dash now - off to the hospital for my Sooty and Sweep (I find if I remove the workd 'stretch' I can tolerate the idea a it easier!). Will keep you posted...

traceface · 05/12/2008 09:58

it appears I can't type today either...brain has turned to mush!
