Morning, just quickly popping in to say hi and that there has been no further action for me. Getting a bit nervous that there might be some action so am desperately trying to do all the cleaning and bits and pieces up to date.

Hope to be back for a proper catch up (and rest soon)

SummerLightning · 04/12/2008 11:17

Morning everyone!

First day of maternity leave, hurray!! Not quite sure what to do with myself but that is ok...

veggie re birth pool I think we are going to route the hose from the bathroom rather than the kitchen, it is further but it reaches. Our kitchen tap is weird so an alternative attachement might not fit! New pool (hopefully sans puncture) has now arrived! And I'm with you on not giving birth on your birthday!! No thanks (though given the choice between birthday and christmas day or new years day I would take birthday I think!)

hatty one of us is bound to...I am hoping it's not me. in fact i am generally a bit worried about getting BFing support/postnatal support in general around teh Christmas period if the baby is out by then! I am worried I am going to be massive and still pregnant and fed up by then though.

kayz hope the doctor can sort you out.

verso fingers crossed you are getting somewhere with the breast feeding now.

arti hope you are feeling a bit better, if you had what I got (everyone round here seems to be getting it) it lasts about 4 days. If it's any consolation, it was so rubbish that i've felt v happy/healthy ever since it cleared up!! So lots of sympathy.

trace they sound like a load of miserable buggers at the drama class!! That would annoy me a lot too!

LadyT and verso too, hope your scars are healing nicely, and hope the antibiotics do the business LadyT

Right gonna get up properly now.

EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 11:26

Verso: I thought about the nipple shields as well, I know they can mess up other things but if they get you through a few feeds while you heal... also what about expressing off one side and so feeding on only one side at a time? Hope the BFC can help today. If some feeds are going OK it may be a supply issue as Hatty suggests rather than a latch issue.

Also, haven;t tried them but the silverette nipple thingies get rave reviews for healing and are on offer here: www.breastfeedingheaven.co.uk/silverette/prod_2.html

Kayz: gosh that sounds miserable, hope you get it sorted.

Am up for a Xmas sweepstake, I'm due on the 30th so not impossible - really hope it isn't me as that's the one day we'll have childcare issues.

EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 11:30

Have just taken the plunge and ordered a Phil & Teds, North London mummy that I am. Tried DS out in it yesterday and it's much easier to manage than our current single. Also go loads of Boots points - they have an offer on puschairs at the moment - though I had to get the doubles set and the newborn thingy from Kiddicare. Then the bank rang to say my card might have been cloned and they were cancelling it, so hope everything goes through OK! Might be a Good Thing, as have been spending out on Xmas and baby stuff and could do with a frugal few weeks

abbymeg · 04/12/2008 11:45

Hatty they had snow an hour after us in Leeds. My sister is driving down the A64 this afternoon to mine from Scarborough - she thinks it will be clear then. I would say that it shouldn't be a problem to get to York tonight, so long as he sticks to the main routes - going out on the A64 (I usually drive from Scarborough down the Pickering road and cut through to the A64 via Yeddingham, but it could be quite dangerous in this weather).
Saying that, we are thawing fast here so would imagine that they will too, being near the coast.

JollyBear · 04/12/2008 11:47

Just a quick post as I've got to go out...

verso I'm sorry you have having such difficulty with breastfeeding - it sounds so very painful. I hope you get some help today.

veggie I wouldn't give paracetomol to a cat, they are so small, you might overdose it by accident. I think you might end up at the vets. I know it is the last thing you need at the minute but there might be something stuck in the cut which could cause a nasty infection.

Beans33 · 04/12/2008 11:47

Loving Christmas emoticons

Just nipping in to say hi. Verso - hope things are getting easier.

I'm under strict instructions from DH to watch TV today, have lunch, have a 2 hour sleep, watch a DVD and then go back to bed. I think I can comply!

OP posts:
abbymeg · 04/12/2008 11:49

Hatty 96.2FM is the local radio station (Yorkshire Coast Radio) for Scarborough and will have travel updates for your DH if he wants to check.

EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 11:49

a quick query from me:

arnica tablets: have got the 200 ones, how many should I take and when? Can't remember what was advised last time.

raspberry leaf tea: when to start drinking it?

Veggiemummy · 04/12/2008 11:50

just bookmarking myself before i go back and have a read. hope everyone is well.

happy birthday SummerLightening.

abbymeg · 04/12/2008 11:51

FINALLY! 4 days in! Christmas emoticons!

Do get very easily excited these days!

Beans33 · 04/12/2008 11:54

Effie _ apparently should start raspberry leaf tea around 36 weeks or so.

I don't know re arnica - I've got 30c ones and taking 2, 4 times a day.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 11:57

right, will get started on the tea (bizarrely I rather like the taste). They had the tincture in the shop as well, but said not suitable for pg women

IceCube · 04/12/2008 12:02

Effie - I could only get hold of Arnica 60, where did you find the 200 ones?

Everything has gone quiet for me on the BH front, so after three days of them every 20mins and thinking they would get stronge, I'm back to square one worrying I will be overdue in hospital on Xmas day to be induced

Verso · 04/12/2008 12:21

Didn't go to the clinic this morning in the end as was finishing DD1's primary school application (deadline is tomorrow) and also did two really easy, pain-free feeds! Have spoken to the local support lady and she says there is a drop-in cafe tomorrow I could go to. Also the private lactation consultant called me back but I was busy at the time so I need to phone her back.

effie I got some of those silverette things delivered this morning! Not sure if they'll work but I'll try anything at this point.

traceface · 04/12/2008 12:24

hello again.
just popping in before we head off to tumbletots. TV is working again so we're having a TV lunch...beans and sausage! yum yum!
Am feeling a bit off colour today - quite literally look pale, feel sickly, tummy uncomfortable but not really painful, legs feel stiff...probably due to tiredness. Was going to contact MW but have appointment tomorrow so may as well wait.
kayz hope you got on ok with GP
verso how was BF lady? Any help?
beans you should definitely do as your dh says! and enjoy!

traceface · 04/12/2008 12:25

whoops x-post verso. glad things seem a bit brighter today

kayzisexpecting · 04/12/2008 12:35

Hello everyone,

HB is booked!!! She was fine about it. I have to have a scan though which she is going to try and rush it through. She is coming round tomorrow afternoon to do the risk assessment. I have her mobile number to ring if things go really quickly, but if not I just ring the labour ward and then they tell the MW on duty.

Tried to make an appointment to see a Dr or the Nurse but I couldn't. I have to ring in the morning and hope they have one. It is so bloody stupid, she couldn't make me an appointment for tomorrow as there was no appointments but I have to ring in the morning

Love the xmas smiley's!!

For all North Yorks ladies. Pickering has really bad snow and everything is frozen and it is very slippery around here. Quite a few back roads are closed and so are all the schools.

EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 12:37

Verso: glad teh feeds are settling down. Maybe it was a growth spurt thing? Funny objects, babies.

IceCube: I got them from Fresh and Wild, they had the 30 and the 200. You might also be able to get them online - I'm sure Veggie can advise if she is around.

EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 12:38

ooh how exciting on the HB Kayz! That must be a relief.

kayzisexpecting · 04/12/2008 12:43

Oh yeah my Mothercare order arrived today, only 7 days late!!

He will have socks!!!

daisydora · 04/12/2008 13:09

Hello all

Hope all you lovely ladies that haven't popped yet are feeling okay. Not been on for a few days as been a bit busy with DS!!

Went out the other day for a small walk on the park - think I over did it a bit though as I was aching when I got back and had to take some painkillers which I had stopped for a couple of days!

Have a very sore nipple and bumped into verso on a bf thread last night. verso let me know how the silverette goes. DS had one okay feed of my sore boob last night but then fed for ages on it this morning so its sore again! Although he slept very well last night so think he was making up for missed milk

Veggiemummy · 04/12/2008 13:14

good afternoon have finally caught up, i can't remember who mentioned the being sick thing but i have had it again since 30 weeks, about twice a week i just suddenly vomit usually sometime overnight or first thing in the morning. although lastnight it happened just before i went to bed. It is quite annoying because i'm have really lost my appetite lately so i would rather not lose what i have made myself eat. Esp last night as i had made a lovely pumpkin, sweet potato and tomato soup.

Arnica. I'm on 30c once a day for these last couple of weeks, then after i have had the baby i think it is 200c 3 times a day.

Kayz hope you get sorted.

Verso that private BF counsellor sounds good not that i have a problem with the different organisations i'm a BfN member but she wouldn't be restricted by their rules and ethics.

I read on the internet that paracetamol & asprin are bad for cats so have just gone with bathing his paw in antiseptic and using some homeopathic remedies as per a wesite i found on per homeopathy. he seems a little better is still moving about ok, but may well still end up at the vets. You would think a couple of vegeatrians would be a it nicer to their cat.

Catdeann- paramedics have special chairs to get people downstairs, what do they think happens to other people in tower blocks etc who need to be taken out in an emergency, they don't have a chance to risk assess them before they have a heart attack etc so i don't see why it is an issue for HB. Also a friend of mine who had to go to hosp during her HB was on the top floor of their 3 story house so really it's about the same. She just walked down. You won't e completely immobile. and you prob won't need to moe anyway.

artichokes · 04/12/2008 13:23

Morning,

Still feeling like pants today. It is a little better than Monday/Tuesday but if anything I feel worse than yesterday. It is making me a bit depressed: feeling grotty, not being able to do anything, not wanting the baby to come (but sort of wanting it to anyway), not being able to care for DD properly. I just want us all well and the baby to be here. There are so many bugs around in December that I am getting quite paranoid.

Kayz - Great news about the homebirth. Sorry about the vertigo though. Is there an NHS drop-in centre you can go to?

Effie - We just got the P&T too. We have been trying it out for a few days and DD1 loves it, for months she has hated getting in her pushchair, but now she jumps in shouting "me and sister's pram".

Hatty - no christmas baby for me please. I am due on the 10th so the baby better be out before then.

Verso - glad to hear you sounding more positive.

Trace - I hope you feel better soon.

LadyT - sorry you are feeling a little flat and having scar gripes. I remember hormones playing havoc with my moods in the first few weeks - I went from euphoria to tears on a daily basis. It settled within a fortnight. How is little O doing? Does she let you rest?

EffiePerine · 04/12/2008 13:25

Sorry you're still feeling ill, Artichokes. Can you get some rest with DD?
