Michaela - Fingers crossed for you for tomorrow!

I'm glad I'm not the only one doing stupid things - and I am definitely showing. I'm only 9 weeks with my first and there is definitely a belly going on. I still don't want to tell work so I'm going to have to find a way to disguise it or claim Christmas over-indulgence!

I can't wait to be "safe" too - that said I can't believe I'm 9 weeks already. The individual days seem to go so slowly but the weeks seem to be quicker!

olivo · 05/01/2009 09:27

morning everyone. sorry to hear some people are having a scary time.
I'm feeling rough on and off, mostly tired. back to work tomorrow and wondering how i am going to manage, especially since I am hoping not to tell anyone there, for a while.

May67 · 05/01/2009 09:31

lurk lurk lurk

24th August DC number 2, DD is 3. Bleeding, blood clot and fibroid on scan at 6 weeks but good heartbeat and foetal pole. Holds breath. Stops holding breath because makes boobs hurt. Won't be back here til at least Feb. Will lurk in the meantime.

lea1980 · 05/01/2009 10:06

hi all, sorry to hear some of are having worries!
i spoke too soon...ms came with avengance this weekend..nearly all day yesterday and for a couple of hours this morning. dh has man flu too so our house was full of joys..roped mum into look after ds for the day so i could sleep!!! (which didnt happen cos i was too busy visiting the loo!!) in between time i got through a pack of spearmint chewing gum, which suprisingly helped to ease the nausea a little bit!
spoke to my best friend yesterday, she has 3 dc, 1 girl. she said she only got ms with her dd..has any one else found this or is just one of those old wives things?!
id rather not have it and be worried i think..i hate being sick!!!!
on the plus side though...got my 1st midwife appointment this week (friday) so at least i can feel as though things are starting to move along.

mamamila · 05/01/2009 10:50

morning! eughh i'm feeling dodgy too, did most of yesterday too, keep thinking at least i'm not vomiting but it's not such a cheerful thought. i keep opening the back door and sticking my nose out, fresh air does feel like a relief for a mo. if only i could find energy to go and shower might get out of the house.
i had same nausea with dd but none with ds so i'll take it as conclusive if this is girl too.
good luck to everyone, i had a little bleeding last pregnancy around the time of first due period but no further probs

OonaghBhuna · 05/01/2009 12:14

Good luck to all... I am feeling dreadful and have been sick a few times this morning.Luckily not back to work until Feb ( I work at a uni)

bratnav · 05/01/2009 13:04

Me too, th train to work this morning was not fun

I've got my first appt with the MW next Tuesday as we have no idea how far along I am, when she called she said that she will call the scanning people whilst I am there to get a dating scan. Does anyone have any ideas how long I would wait for one assuming I have no other issues other than a complete lack of dates?

bratnav · 05/01/2009 13:09

Oh, and my boobs are huge (for me anyway, I know my (female) boss has glanced at me sideways in that area a couple of times today already, I am NOT ready to tell anyone, definitely not until we've had the scan and know where we are in all this.

Sorry some of you are having a bit of a worrying time, hopeful and smiley faces to you all

teachertalk · 05/01/2009 14:04

Is anyone else aching generally around their abdomen and lower back? It is actually worse when I sit down and eases when I stand and walk. Def not like period pains but more an unconfortable feeling really. Have only had it since last night but have been sat around a lot as I am off work. Am sure it is nothing just wondered if anyone else felt like that. Never get ms so I suppose I have to have some discomfort!

BabyBump2B · 05/01/2009 16:47

Teacher I've had some back pain on and off. It really hits if I sit around not moving much. We've had a lot of snow lately so I haven't be able to get out there and walk - which made a huge difference!

Michaela thinking of you!

Kanuck · 05/01/2009 18:29

TeacherTalk - I don't have any morning sickness either (in 9th week) although was blessed with a couple of cysts. I think (HOPE) those have gone away. Have your exact symptoms though. Felt good back at work today but after lunch sitting on that chair was becoming too much for my back. I have to take great care sitting down and standing up - same getting in and out of bed. And i have minor nausea when meals are due but once i eat i am fine.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

OonaghBhuna · 05/01/2009 19:41

I am feeling more human after a terrible day.Oh boy its hard entertaining my daughters when I feel so ill and tired, everytime I was sick my DD1 kept saying 'Mummy are you ok?' Bless her

My lower back has been aching too all day.

Bratnav: My boobs are huge with my last pregnancy I went from a 32aa to a G cup.......And I could have gone larger but didnt want to be spending more money on maternity bras!

I hope everyone is ok sending lots of positive vibes.

HeinzSight · 05/01/2009 21:47

MichaelaS, any news yet? Hope you're OK.

MichaelaS · 05/01/2009 23:22

hi all, i'm back

welcome may, hope you enjoy lurking.

Well, I had a scan this morning. They tried a normal one, but they couldn't see properly so I had an internal one too. The good news is that the woman could see the baby in its sac, and its heart was beating. They took measurements and it's looking a week earlier than my dates, but they said not to worry until the 12 week scan. Also, i'm sure I ovulated late so actually this makes sense.

The bad news - well, 2 bits really. Firstly they didn't find any cause for the bleeding, so I still don't know what is going on but at least i'm reassured little baby is OK.

Secondly, they found 3 fibroids. 1 is pretty large, 6cm by 5cm, but on the outside of my uterus. the other 2 are smaller (2.5 x 2cm) but are very close to the pregnancy site - so could compete with the baby for blood supply. Apparently fibroids generally grow in pregnancy so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

The main thing is that the baby is OK for now, and I can try to relax until the 12 week scan.

Thanks everyone for listening, and I hope your morning sickness gets better everyone.

hencath · 06/01/2009 09:24

Hi all,

I have had the most terrifying of weeks. I, like some others have had some bleeding and at first was not overly concerned as its my 1st pregnancy and have no idea what to expect. It also started on 23rd dec and was busy with family and kind of put it to the back of my head.

On the 30th it got heavier so whilst speaking to the midwife about something else thought I'd mention it just to put my mind at rest. In my ignorance I thought she would just say it was normal and not to worry. Instead she got very serious and told me I needed to speak with the GP asap and arrange an emergency scan as it looked like I was having a threatened miscarriage. Well, at this point I was gobsmacked and was shaking all over. I made the appointment with the GP who again was all doom and gloom so I spent the weekend convinced I had lost the baby or was about to- devastating.

So after a very painful and long week saw the consultant yesterday who was lovely. The scan showed a small blob!! With a flickering heart!! I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. There appears to be no reason for the bleeding and have been told that this pregnancy is as viable as anyones at this stage.

I just wanted to tell my story as this is a time when a lot of us have scares and worries and sometimes despite all the odds its all ok. I have updated the list with my new EDD which is now 12th august (9weeks).

amelied · 06/01/2009 09:53

Hi everyone

I have a 9 week scan this afternoon at 3:30pm and am very nervous.

After 3 years of trying and two miscarriages I am truly hoping and praying that we can see a heartbeat today. I have had the recurrent miscarriage tests completed and everthing came back normal.

I have not had many symptoms just a sore, heavy chest and some nausea so I am hoping that is a good sign.

I am a bit pre-historic (40 at the end of this month) so am worried that time is running out also.

Thanks for listening.

VerifiedLU4097 · 06/01/2009 11:33

Hello everyone- late joiner here! I'm 31, 8+4 on my first and due to see the midwife tomorrow although the GP reckons she may send me away for being too early.

At what date is a nuchal fold scan recommended?

hencath · 06/01/2009 12:50

Hello verifiedLU4097

The nuchal scan is recommended from 11-13 weeks generally.

I would be surprised if the midwife sends you away for being too early-although I suppose it depends on the your local PCT guidelines.

I saw the midwife at about 7weeks and have only just received my referral for the nuchal scan which will be on 22nd jan (Im 9 weeks so only a little bit ahead of you).

Good luck with the midwife. I found seeing her a very useful meeting to reassure me, answer questions and find out what the next few months will bring- its my first pregnancy too.

Ps. Good luck with your scan this afternoon amelied.

VerifiedLU4097 · 06/01/2009 13:04

thanks Hencath. Thats exactly what I am hoping the midwife will do as it feels so unreal at the moment. I will enquire about nuchal scanning as although DH has tested negative for a chromosomal defect that runs in his family, I still worry about Downs as his mother believes that her mother had 2 Downs babies that died. (although of course it could be the now diagnosed chromosomal dislocation and everyone thought it was Downs.)

LittleFairySmile · 06/01/2009 15:48

Michaela glad you saw baby is well at scan. Hope al other issues melt away!!!
May67 take care. See you in Feb.
lea1980ms this time, and ms with son! Not sure about gender thing, just v. personal.
hencath hope all goes well from here!
amelied thinking of you, and hope all goes well.
verified hope you get the care from the midwife you need, and the info you want.

Def. back pain here girls. Part and parcel of the who pg gig, I guess!

Feel so sick, but I want my scan!!! [small child having a paddy emoticon]

amelied · 06/01/2009 16:25

Hi there - many thanks for the good wishes.

Just back from the scan and am confused.

My last period was the 5th of November and I calculate it out that I would be going into 9 weeks today.

At the hospital I had to have a vaginal scan and we got to see the baby and a heartbeat but according to the measurements I am 6 weeks. The midwife explained that they do not ask for the last date of period anymore and take the measurement as what week I am. I have a follow up scan now for next Tuesday.

Does this seem credible? I am now worried sick. I would appreciate your honest opinions. I am grateful that we saw the baby and a heartbeat I am just a bit hung up on thinking I was starting the ninth week today.

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Just adding myself to this list, am 7+3 weeks so I've worked out my edd 22nd August. I have one dd (21mo) and have had 2 mc's so getting an early scan next week.

This is such a scary time but I'm holding onto hope that this is the right one and it'll stick.

OonaghBhuna · 06/01/2009 16:53

I would be happy that you saw the baby with the heart beating. however the mw going on a measurement is bizarre, i have never heard of that.Surely that cant be safe way of working out due dates etc?
I have to say it must be a bit demoralizing to think that you are on week 9 to be told its weeks six?I am due at a similar time and the only thing that I am hanging on to is the fact that in a couple of weeks I might be feeling better.

The main thing to focus on is that the heart is beating whatever week you are in, this baby is alive.

BabyBump2B · 06/01/2009 17:54

Michaela Glad you saw the baby but try not to worry too much about the fibroids - a friend of mine had 2 (1 the size of a lemon and another about half the size of a rugby ball!) and gave birth to a healthy baby girl!

Hencath What a relief to see the heartbeat! Here's hoping its all easy peasy from here on it!

Amelied How long are your cycles? Do you know how long your luteal phase is (the time from ovulation to getting your period)? Your cycle length and luteal phase can effect your dating - but also keep in mind that its a bit early to get completely accurate dating from a scan. We've been moved back and forward a week already and I'm only 9 weeks. If they were concerned about the baby size wouldn't they say something?

Sushipaws Welcome!

LittleFairySmile LOL at the paddy emoticon!

pinkypanther · 06/01/2009 18:30

Amelied - my LMP was on 26 October but I tested negative on 14 December and only had a faint positive on 21 December. My GP sent me for a dating scan, which said I was only 6+0 rather than 10+0 as I should be if based on LMP!

When was your BFP? That might give you more of a clue about dates.

Wishing you well x
