Feeling so much better since Christmas. Most of the nausea has gone. I hope this is okay? seems weird to be pregnant only based on a test, and my GP didn't do anything but take my word for it. Hearing of you all booking in tests with Midwifes, and I still haven't even heard from my hospital for my first scan. Desperate for it as want to start being excited and happy and planning. Working on keeping calm about it all at the moment.
The larger breasts are a good sign that the pregnancy is proceeding at least.
Should I chase my GP to hear from my hospital? I am 9 weeks now?

TaleofTwoCities · 03/01/2009 21:36

Just waving to everyone. Counting down till scan day here as well. 19 days to go!

Beetles, I often feel sickest in the night. Last night 4.30am and knew the only remedy was to eat something, so I'm down in the kitchen, starving but sick, eating cornflakes accompanied by the cats...

Heinz - twins - ahhhhh! I would not be able to tell dh if that happened, he would disappear in a cloud of smoke.

Kanuck, 3 hours sounds a little bit long! There is a lot to go through, and paperwork to fill in but my booking appt was about 40 mins. Is it at the hospital? Maybe there will be a tour?

Sorry to hear about the scare pinkypanther, glad to hear good news from the epu though

Is anyone else on a temp contract with work? This worries me as was in permanent job the last 2 times. I don't think I'll get maternity payments from my employer. Also not sure whether I'm entitled to paid time off for appts. Still this is all to worry about later. I don't think I'll believe totally in this pregnancy until I've seen it on the scan. I am guilty of googling (sigh) - should know better the 3rd time around.

lea1980 · 03/01/2009 22:11

mammadani....i would ring your surgery and book an appointment with your midwife there, they like to see you for the first time between 8 and 10 weeks so they can get your medical history etc on paper before your first scan. i wouldnt worry too much about not getting a letter from the hospital yet..it has been christmas and new year after all, probably a bit of a back log!!!

lea1980 · 03/01/2009 22:40

taleoftwocities im not 100% sure but i think temp contracts stand like permanent ones. as long as your average weekly wage is £84 before tax and youve worked for the company throughout your pregnancy, you will receive smp. ive looked in the nhs pregnancy book i got when pregnant with ds in 2007 so its not too old!
"if you work for an agency or do casual work you are probably not an employee but you can still get maternity pay if you meet the normal conditions"
and any way, the company claim smp back from the inland revenue so they wont lose out any way!
Just ask your employer, or look on www.acas.org.uk
the acas gives advice on time of for antenatal care, maternity rights etc etc or you could also try citizens advice?!

pinkypanther · 03/01/2009 22:48

Thanks Heinz and TOTC - petrified at the time (as was DH) but was treated very well at the EPU and not made to feel silly for coming in (St Georges by the way if anyone else in South London and needs to go - hope none of you do though!)

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Roll on 12 weeks!

BabyBump2B · 04/01/2009 00:22

Wow August is going to be a busy month! Hi to all the newbies! And congrats for all the healthy scans. I figure if you have any cramps, bleeding or concerns its worth fighting for a scan - so reassuring.

I had a very stupid pregnancy brain moment the other day. We have the ultrasound on the fridge and I looked at it and actually thought "How amazing that the baby can survive on there"?!?!?!? Seriously? What a stupid thing to think! Pleeeeeeease tell me I'm not the only one thinking (or doing) stupid things!

TaleofTwoCities · 04/01/2009 08:40

Thanks for checking lea1980! I'll have to look into it further. I'm employed via an agency so maybe I'll just get maternity allowance. It's a bit rubbish in general as I don't get things like sick pay (unless claiming statutory sick pay after 4 days off). I had really good maternity benefits in the past so am preparing myself for a lot less this time!

Babybump2b . Sure there will be loads more moments like that for us all.

Uki · 04/01/2009 10:44

Hi All

Am I the only one feeling totally exhausted??? probably not all this festive and new year stuff has been exhausting hasn't it?

On that note heres to having some more energy in second trimester and Happy 2009.

heinzseight - twins, how wonderful, i'm so excited for you
i look like i'm carrying twins, i am showing already, but ultrasound said one.

mamamilla- welcome, another fellow august 07 pal, wonderful news...are you showing yet? i'm not far off your 38 week pg shot, i swear

pporgy- welcome too, enjoy your first pg, so exciting

duchese- welcome, it's going to be exciting to have a little one in your house again, congrat's

babybump- lots of highly stupid and emotional stuff going on here, you are not alone, i'll give you examples when brain is actually functioning enogh to remember.

looking forward to catching up more, after good rest

mamamila · 04/01/2009 13:07

hi everyone,

wave to uki! oh geez what are we doing?? but you already have a 2 year gap so i want to know all the advice..i only tested 2nd jan but i seem to have a 3 or 4 month bump already.. no stomach muscles i guess!
i've been looking at support belts, i wonder if they're any good? i'm totally dreading the pelvic girdle pain (pgp) again

well, i'm feeling queasy on and off all day, eases off in evening. nasty taste in the mouth and nose filled with strong aromas. i was walking to the pharmacy to buy the test feeling nauseous, metalic taste and overwhelmed by smell of coffee and wondered if it was necessary to spend £6 on a test.
also had a strong headache/ migraine, making my eyes hurt.
i called the local surgery expecting an antenatal plan to swing into action immediately so was quite suprised when given appt with midwife for 14th Jan. mentioned to a dr friend whose comment that they only focus resources on viable pregnancies unnerved me..
i want this next month to go fast, get booked in/ scanned/ know the sex and enjoy this pregnancy

HeinzSight · 04/01/2009 13:19

Ooops, sorry there's been some confusion on here... as yet, I'm not having twins!!!!

mamamila · 04/01/2009 13:20

sorry to continue on and on... but i'm taking advantage of this chance, lying in bed with dd asleep,
for those with mc worries, i'm a bit scared too as i have had some heavy bleeding for a day and dark discharge and cramps. i was slow to consider i could be pregnant as thought my period was coming. i haven't mc before but it's definitely in the back of my head worrying me. i take the nausea as a good sign though, lovely!
if i may share some dietary advice..i'm going to try not to overdo the fruit and juices and generally try to control sugar and fat intake. last pregnancy i tried to battle the queasiness with nuts and biscuits/ drank a lot of fruit juice and ribena/ ate mass amounts of fruit and gained a lot of weight very fast in 1st trimester which may have helped cause the excess fluid and the pvp

mamamila · 04/01/2009 13:22

hello heinzsight, how are you feeling today?

HeinzSight · 04/01/2009 13:23

although I do look like I'm 4 months pregnant already , must be because it's my 4th or something. I do remember showing v early with my last.

BabyBump2B, pregnancy brain is funny . I parked in some mud the other week and DH was worried we weren't going to able to reverse out, I said it's OK, I'll put it in 2nd gear, '2nd gear in reverse?' Ooops I'm already struggling to think of names for simple things...

moosecat1 · 04/01/2009 17:34

Hi all, so many new faces since I last visited. Hope everyone is doing well. I had a bit of bleding over Christmas (mostly 'thin' and pink, but my EPU did a scan and everything seemed ok. Saw my consultant yesterday and he is happy everything is going ok, measurements all ok (9+4), strong heartbeat and no signs of any reason for the bleeding. I still won't be excited until after 12 weeks though. My consultant says that the chance of a miscarriage at this stage are the same as having a still born, but my last mc was between 10+3 and 11+3 so I'll wait and see.
teachertalk - I have had 3 mcs in the last 2 years. I am on aspirin and progesterone too. I am also on prednisolone, which supresses the natural killer cells, but isn't tested for or prescribed by the NHS.

Good luck to all those with 12 week scans coming soon

LittleFairySmile · 04/01/2009 20:09

Hi all, just checking in. Getting a podge here too .

teachertalk · 04/01/2009 21:37

Hello moosecat1. I am sorry to hear about your mc's. However, it is nice to hear that someone else is on the same drugs! I know I shouldn't but have been googling cyclogest (the progesterone) and read that because it keeps the pregnancy going if you do mc then there are no signs. Have you heard this? I hate all this worry and would love to enjoy being pregnant like the first time. I don't tend to get signs of mc tho so probably shouldn't dwell on that. Does the progesterone give the sore boobs and other symptoms do you know or is this another hormone? Worry, worry, worry!

I am glad that your scan went well and you are not far to the 12 week milestone. I am only 6+2 and it feels like a lifetime away.

BumpVLump · 04/01/2009 21:42

Wow we really are a big list now! August going to be a busy month...
Bring on the second trimesters please.
At work at the mo but dreading going home as my man has this flu thing and has been puking all day (at least he can see how I feel most days!!) I DO NOT WANT IT.
My morning sickness seems to be calming down. Not so sick all the time...just bouts usually after eating. So I DO NOT WANT a sickness bug thankyou very much.
Thinking of calling mother to see if I can sleep at hers tonight germ free.
XX

Uki · 04/01/2009 22:40

Heinzseight-opps sorry, i did try and find the post where you confirmed twins, but couldn't find one, but got a little confused with all the talk of twins

mamamilla- sorry to hear of bleed, hope all is OK, alot of women have bleeds and are fine. Hope this is the case, the nausea sounds positive LOL walking into chemist and all those symptoms.
2 year gap is going great here, they are both interacting and playing together lots now, LL loves to go wake his big brother up in the morning which is cute.

teachertalk- i agree about wanting to reach 12 weeks milestone, i am 11 weeks on wed, but still very worried had a big meltdown yesterday with all the stress of it, was not fun. i was not on asprin for 1st pg, took it for my second, and this time told to wait till 12 weeks before starting it, also due to mc's latest studies say after 12 weeks, but of course if anything goes wrong i'm going to blame not taking it.

moosecat-hope all is well with you now, baby sounds really healthy good news.

MichaelaS · 04/01/2009 23:57

hi all, well a quick update here, i've had some bleeding - initially very very light and brown blood, but getting more frequent and gone red. Just a bit of spotting really, only there when I wipe IYKWIM. I was worried though, so I called the NHS Direct line and they got my out of office GP cover to call. He said it's probably nothing, could be threatened mc but if I wanted reassurance I should go to A&E.

So, we spent about 4 hours in the Royal London today. They were pretty good, noone made me feel bad for going, they noted down my relevant history (cervical LLETZ operation, so am worried about my cervix failing and will probably need a stitch). They eventually took some blood (4th time lucky and they only got 1 ml, I have the veins of an anaemic child).

then the on call gynae saw me and did an internal exam and said all seemed fine, my notes say the cervix looks long and closed. Anyway, they have booked me in for an early scan tomorrow. I will be 8 + 4 so i'm hoping it will be clear whether everything is ok or not.

so, i'm relieved that nothing looked bad today, but still worried until we see things tomorrow. But i'm also feeling quite pleased about wangling an early scan - hooray!

will update you all tomorrow (probably late night though).

sorry for another me me me post, one day i'll get off my introspective thing and back into the world.
