Amelied I was vaginally scanned at 6 weeks and embryo was 2.1mm and was told it was too small (there was no question I was six weeks due to ivf). But . . . the vaginal scan has a 2mm error rate and i was told, different to you, that they never try to 'date' much before 8-9 weeks because of this erro, preferably they like to wait 12.

amelied · 06/01/2009 20:42

Thank you everyone - I am just back from acupuncture and my acupuncturist told me that I should focus on the heart beating and not on weeks.

My 2 mc's have messed up my head and I am trying to be postive but finding it hard.

oonaghbhuna,babybump2be, pinkypanther and kanuck - thank you for your comments. In answer to your questions:

My last period was 5th of November; last year after my miscarriage my dates ranged from 28days to up to 45days for my period to arrive but they when went back eventually to a regular 28/29 days and had been like that for months. I was due 2nd of December and got my BFP on the 3rd of December.

I have just checked the measurements on the notes they have gave me and the baby measured 3.3mm.

I will try and remain positive and remember seeing that heartbeat on the screen.

Thank you for your support x

MammaDani · 07/01/2009 05:14

Is anyone else suffering from trouble sleeping? This is the second night I am up at 3am and wide awake. Most boring as there is never anything to watch on tv and I don't fancy reading.

Hope everyone is well. Just counting down the days to 13 weeks and a scan (whenever that may be if the hospital ever gets in touch), can't wait to tell people and start getting excited about it all. x

amelied · 07/01/2009 08:50

Hi Kanuck

Have been thinking what you mentioned about your measurement being too small at your 6 week scan.

Did they ask you back for a further scan and did everything "date" ok on the scan now you are 9 weeks?

Many thanks
amelied

lea1980 · 07/01/2009 09:50

hi mammadani
Im troubled with lack of sleep..some of it is pregnancy related but hubby snores louder than a full grown elephant so that doesnt help!!! im lucky in that i love to read..and i enjoy watching rubbish early hours tv!!!
im about 7 weeks, ive told almost everyone..but i have to because of my work..im a care assistant so my work consists of a lot of bending, stretching, lifting etc etc. i just dont seem to be able to get excited either!!
speaking of dating..it gets no better in later stages!!my best friend, according to her edd by period date is due in about 3 weeks, but according to her measurements she is 44 weeks this week!!! the midwife wants to induce her asap (she is quite a small pelvised lady and has had 2 horrendous labours in the past!!) the specialist has said no..another scan in 2 weeks and induce the week after that if baby isnt here. theyve measured him at nearly 9 1/2lb already!! im so scared for her..its going to hurt like hell!!!

Kanuck · 07/01/2009 11:41

amelied - midwife appt today but no scan expected just yet. I had scans in weeks 6, 7 and 8 compliments of my IVF clinic. Embryo measures were:
2.1mm + heartbeat
4.5mm + heartbeat
11.9mm + heartbeat

all showed embryo growing 1mm per day from the second scan. They were very happy with that.

BumpVLump · 07/01/2009 11:42

Hi all,
Sorry to hear about all your worrying times.
Fingers crossed for everyone, not long till the safe(er) zone now girls. I take each day as a little step overcome!
I just wanted to say I purchased a (cheap) doppler on amazon and it arrived yesterday. After two tries and a lot of worries I did finally find baby's heartbeat on the third try and it felt great.
I am paranoid after my MMC- no symptoms so how do you know if you have miscarried!?
And think this is going to turn into a good buy.
Although I would warn people that it IS frustrating when you dont hear it straight away, took me three tries, at least an hour, and a lot of sticky gel slathering...but worth it for the peace of mind.
Worth mentioning that I saw midwife on monday and she has put my due date forward to the 28th July now so Im 11 weeks, not sure how early you can usually hear a heartbeat though.
Goodluck everyone

amelied · 07/01/2009 11:48

Kanuck - thank you for sharing that - your statistics are great to hear.

It has been a bit of a sleepless night.

Picante · 07/01/2009 11:54

Hi all, I am feeling down. I hate complaining as I've waited for so long for this, but the sickness is so bad now I'm puking throughout the day and am housebound.

My mum has come to help for a few days which is great. I don't think I could look after ds on my own. Nothing the doc has given me has had any effect.

I'm losing £250 a week in lost income. I keep hoping I've reached the peak then it keeps getting worse.

I've got an acupuncture appointment tomorrow and have everything crossed that it will provide a miraculous solution.

Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeugh.

HeinzSight · 07/01/2009 13:05

Poor you Picante

babycat · 07/01/2009 16:41

Feeling very sorry for myself @ the moment . Have had a bad cough for almost a week & didn't sleep much last night. Feel exhausted & have done hardly anything for 2 weeks now. My poor DD has been so bored this week now her daddy is back at work. I'm still feeling nauseous & can't stand tea or yoghurt but think it's to do with the cough as I don't really feel pregnant anymore. Still not heard from the midwife or hospital and I will be 9 weeks tomorrow I think. Getting really frustrated. Sorry to go on about it on here but as I have only told family (who I don't want to burden with my woes), I have no one else to offload to.

BabyBump2B · 07/01/2009 16:56

Picante and Babycat - poor you - I really hope you feel better soon. It really is rubbish to feel sick all the time.

Amelied - hang in there, it is so hard waiting for that next scan but try to stay positive - hugs.

OonaghBhuna · 07/01/2009 16:59

Babycat and Picante, I know how you feel, I have had flu for two weeks and now still have an eternal cough that keeps me awake all night. I have been vomiting in the mornings too and feel incapable of looking after my DDs.
So its doom and gloom here. I feel low and very emotional Just counting down the days until I get my scan next week.

Kanuck · 07/01/2009 18:07

Had my first midwife appt today and although I was told it would be 3 hours, it was actually 4 hours. Did all the paperwork, blood work, booked 11-week ultrasound, booked 5 'parenting' classes, saw a doctor about my [painful] cysts and she sent me for a scan. So now i've had a scan in each of the last four weeks.

Although we had seen heartbeat 3 times, today, we heard it which is apparently twice as fast as mine. And the little one has grown from 12mm 9 days ago to 21mm today. Quite happy as I think 1mm growth per day is normal in early stages. 2 big cysts however and a couple smaller ones which are killing me (no possible harm to fetus). Can we say fetus yet when you're 8 or 9 weeks? Or is it still an embryo?

amelied an update on your 'dating' question - my measurements today dated perfectly with IVF dating she said so hang in there - everything is probably fine with your measurements too.

MichaelaS · 08/01/2009 02:17

hi all, just wanted to pop in and say hello.

Don't worry amelied, dating is really hard in the early weeks, wait for your 12 week scan before you start getting concerned about scan dates vs LMP dates.

babycat and picante, sorry to hear you are sick, hope you get better soon and hope MS goes away for all the right reasons.

SpecialOffer · 08/01/2009 08:01

Sorry for not being around much, I have been so exhausted. My ds has been getting up at 5am for the past few weeks, but think i might have cracked the problem and it was 6:45 this morning!!! I am 10 weeks now and am being hit hard by heartburn, this is natures way of saying you didn't get much sickness so, you can spend all of your waking hours with heartburn!

I am so sorry I can't answer any datign scans as I have never had to have an early scan, so have no idea about things like that.

babycat and picante and OonaghBhuna, so sorry to hear you are both so ill, I have no idea how you do it. My sis had ms really bad with all three, and found herself surviving on the weirdest diet to get herself thorugh. Take one day at a time...

SpecialOffer · 08/01/2009 08:02

babycat can you phone the scan unit directly to get yourself booked it, thats how we do it here, one you have the scan booked it helps a lot as there is something to work towards. If you can't phone the midwife and get yourself in to see them.

VerifiedLU4097 · 08/01/2009 08:46

Hi all. Babycat, I know exactly how you feel, from Oct to now I've had a persistant cough which antibiotics didnt touch. its finally getting better. The cough was so bad I'm actually amazed i conceived! It was so bad over christmas that it felt like I'd cracked a rib and I was in agony. So you have my sympathy.

I saw the midwife yesterday. what was funny was the NHS notes she gave me said I would see a midwife each month from now on in. she told me that the hospital would contact me for my 12 week scan and I would not need to see her until 24 weeks! In any event, I'll probably have moved jobs by then and be working in another part of the country, so I'll never see her again in my life, which is a shame because she was lovely.

OMG- i had no idea that they'd take that much blood off me!! It was about 6 vials! I was pooped afterwards. We talked about Downs and amnios etc, and she never once mentioned about Nuchal Fold scans.

Nevertheless, it was helpful.

babycat · 08/01/2009 12:18

Thanks for all your support . I know things could be a lot worse & I'm grateful I've had a positive pregnancy test without fertility treatment, something I never imagined possible, but I won't be able to relax much until I'm scanned.

SpecialOffer I will try to get the number for the community midwives to see if they have any record of me later & let you know how I get on.

VerifiedLU4097 I remember all the blood tests the first time round, they did a whole group of us most with our partners round some tables on the maternity ward. I was surprised no one fainted (especially the men)! I didn't have any of the tests for Down's etc last time as I couldn't contemplate termination & didn't want to have the amnio for fear of miscarriage. People with Down's syndrome can have a good quality of life & a long life these days. I suppose it may be useful to be forewarned about the possibility so you can get your head around it as I would find it difficult to cope with & they are likely to have other health problems. Some of the maternity staff, particularly one of the sonographers were quite nasty about my decision not to have the tests. It is up to me & my husband what we decide is right for us though.

Hawkmoth · 08/01/2009 13:22

Saw MW yesterday. Very nice, matter of fact woman. "Do you want to have the baby at home or in hospital?" was the first thing she said! "At home." says I, "Righto!" was the reply!

BP was my lowest ever despite me really stressing out for no reason whatsoever!

EDD 15th August, but I'm sure I ovulated early (must have done else wouldn't be PG!).

Sorry that people are having scary times. I'm just generally green/grey and worn out. DD is trying her best to do me in with heaps of disgusting poo that makes me retch but shouldn't complain.

SPD is starting to rear its ugly head, especially at work. I'm going to have to get a new chair. Yesterday was incredibly painful and I've started to worry a lot about how I'm going to cope with working (even tho it's only 20 hours a week). Lots of stuff I can do from home so I'll have to discuss I suppose.

amelied · 08/01/2009 15:14

MichaelaS - thank you - this baby-making malarkey is soooo stressful; every day feels like a week at the moment. I just wish next Tuesday was here and everything ok with the scan.

Kanuck That is fantastic news that your dates are matching the hospital now. You must be thrilled and to get to hear the heartbeat too - I'm delighted for you.

I'm much calmer today, thank you, my acupuncturist has made me up some flower essences mix and it has been helping.

Happy Thursday to you all x

BabyBump2B · 08/01/2009 17:24

HI ladies! Sorry to hear about all the unwell feelings. I don't know how those of you with DC do it. I can hardly take care of myself and our dog!

Have a bit of a rave for you all! I went and picked up a pair of maternity tights yesterday (anything tight around my waist has been making ms worse) and OMG they are FAB! not tight, accommodate my expanding (i.e. bloating) belly. Def recommend them if you have skirts and dresses to wear!

Seeing midwife for first time tonight, I'll report back tomorrow!

babycat · 08/01/2009 19:23

I phoned midwives this afternoon & found out that I am on their books but they are not planning to see me until I am 11+ weeks due to a backlog as a result of not enough computers & I wouldn't get a scan appointment until after that. I explained that due to fertility issues I am really anxious as to whether everything is alright & she said if I phone the EPAS tomorrow they would probably be able to offer a reassurance scan. So am going to do that & see if they can get me in before 11+ weeks. She told me I should think myself lucky as some women at other GP practices were still waiting to be seen at 16 weeks!

mamamila · 08/01/2009 20:04

hi everyone, just want to wail pathetically.. i fell like crap too! i'm so nauseous all bloody day long i just wish i was asleep as there doesn't seem to be any respite from it. it just waves over me all day and even in the night i keep waking feeling sick. eughhh when will it stop??

Sushipaws · 08/01/2009 20:15

mamamila, most ms stops after the first trimester. But if you like me, mine lasted the whole of my last pregnancy. It became routine to walk around with a plastic bag in my pocket in case I suddenly had to vomit.

I'm sick too, though haven't actually vomited yet, just retching at the smell of the fridge, bananas, the thought of the outside bin etc...
