Hi to all and happy new year.
Busy Xmas here and working over new year so VERY tired at the mo...cant wait for day off tommorow.
Have my first midwife app next week which Im told will be an hour (what will we say!?) The reception lady was rather annoyed with me for not contacting them sooner as apparently Im supposed to go and see her at 8 weeks. Well...sorry. I didnt know!!
I thought I was over the pukey stage but it came back with a renewed vigour over the last few days and yesterday at work I was very suddenly sick all over my shoes and sleeve. Lovely.

Hi all, Happy New Year!

babycat i'm in the same boat, i'm 8 weeks today and went to see the doctor at 5 weeks, still haven't heard anything from the midwife or hospital. I'm pretty annoyed because i'm away on holiday for 1 week when i'll be about 12 weeks, and I'm likely to need a cervical stitch after LLETZ in 07, so I would really like to see the midwife and get my first scan to see that everything is OK and to see how my cervix is holding up. I so don't want to lose this baby for any reason, it would be so upsetting if it was because of something I already know is a risk. I did tell the doctor when I went, but she didnt' seem to know what she was doing.

anyway, enough self pity, time to get a bath and go to bed, i'm back at work tomorrow. Quite looking forward to it in a strange way, i'm a bit sick of sitting at home doing nothing now.

Ooh, well this morning I decided to go to my Early Pregnancy Unit for a reassurance scan, as I'm about a week away from when I miscarried last time, and it was stuck there at the back of my mind. (as you'd expect!)

We saw a heartbeat! A fairly strong one, too - our little bean was about 4mm long and doing what it should be - which is SO reassuring!

So now I've got another 5-6 weeks to go until the 12 week scan, and my first midwife appointment, so fingers crossed it'll all go well!

BumpVLump - I'm dreading being back at work next week for exactly the reason you explained up there - hope it wasn't too embarrassing for you!

MichaelaS - is it worth calling the hospital to speak to someone in Maternity? I did that, and found out that St Helier's fax machine hadn't been working for a while - so chances are if I'd just waited, I might never have had an appointment (sighhh!!) - it meant I could just turn up and have my scan to get into the system, anyway?

Hi, can I join in. I am 6 weeks pregnant and due 28th August. Very nervous about this pregnancy as have had 3MMC's over the last 2 years (last one July 08) but have a DS 5 years old. No reasons found for my MC's (had all the blood tests twice)but consultant has put me on progesterone pesseries twice a day and aspirin. Is anyone else taking these?

I have started to look into private chromosonal testing, particularly because of my [old] age. For those of you nearish to London, The Fetal Medicine Centre comes highly recommended on a number of other Mumsnet forums, as you likely already are aware of.

I wanted to point out that there is an excellent 40 min video of Professor Kypros Nicolaides from the centre on their web site detailing the various tests and their rates of accuracy. I highly recommend watching it.

thought, glad to hear you had a good scan, that must be so reassuring.
I've been feeling pretty rough for the lasst few days, but haven't actually been sick. I am bizarrely looking forward to getting back to work so i have something else to concentrate on. I am seem to be dwelling on anything that could /might go wrong at the moment, and scaring myself.

Hello all! I got my BFP on 21 December. I have PCOS and only had 3 periods in 2008, so feel this pregnancy is a bit of a miracle. I only tested because I was due for a specialist appointment the next day and thought they might ask.

Because of the PCOS dates are a bit of a guess and GP has referred me for early scan next week. Have added myself on below, EDD TBC! I think I am about 6 weeks, though...

Just a quick Happy New Year to you all. I've been ill for a couple of days but starting to feel better.

Got the date for my scan - 30th Jan. Can't believe I have to wait another 4 weeks for it (I make that about 13.5 weeks pregnant). Also the letter that came had the wrong spelling for my name despite the fact it was correct on the one the mw posted to the hospital so am gonna have to ring them. Have my bloods and stuff done at the same time...not looking forward to that (hate having blood taken cos I have terrible veins).

Hello to everyone. I am feeling alot better from the flu but also not as sick......I was really nauseous but Im not anymore.I have my first scan on the 15th and then will arrange a nuchal if everything is ok. I am getting a little bit worried usually by week 8-9 I am in full swing with MS.

anniecam, sorry if im being nosey but is your nuchal scan done privately or nhs?

i got a letter 2 days back to see midwife on the 13th jan but can't seems to change the date as am travelling for a few weeks from the 10th onwards..
will go to epu if im really desperate by then cos' i dont wanna miss the nuchal scan which has to be done between 11-13wks. not looking forward the blood test though..hate needles
am abt 10wks now and by the time i come back would be 14wks..dont know if they do nuchal scan in epu though..
lastly, to whoever still feeling sick, u still have a sick mate---->me and hopefully it will go away soon

Hi nandos, my nuchal scan is private, im having it done at a Fetal Medicine Unit in Newcastle (UK). I havent got a date for my 12 week scan yet as i dont see the midwife for my booking in appt till the 13th Jan and i,ll be 11+2,so needed to get this nuchal scan booked as quick as possible, i,ll be 12+3 when i have it.

Talking of nuchal scans, they don't do them on the NHS in Swansea we have to go to BUPA in Cardiff to have it done privately. We are only offered a 12 week scan for dating and then blood tests 15-17 weeks for downs testing which is really late I think. If I get as far as 12 weeks (didn't the last 3 pg's) I will probably go for nuchal scan as I am 37 now. Consultant said he will arrange an early scan for me when I am ready but am putting it off until they can do one on my abdomen - had enough internal scans to last a lifetime. part of me thinks maybe I shouldn't have one and bury my head firmly in the sand.

teachertalk, a friend of mine lost three babies at 12 weeks. When she fell pregnant again her consultant, off the record, told her to take baby aspirin, she took it up until I think 2-3 weeks before her due date, her DD was born safe and sound. She swears it's to do with the aspirin. She was told it's supposed to thin the blood slightly so that if the blood flow is slightly restricted through the placenta, more blood is able to get through, because it's thinner. Does that make sense?

Can I jsut say how much I'm still in shock.

Am sure it'll sink in eventually, well hopefully before August. I can't believe I'm going to have four children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bit of a scare overnight - had some spotting and stomach ache so went to my local EPU this morning.

Was a bit of a scary experience (poor woman in front of me came out sobbing...) but they found a heartbeat on my little bean and dated me as 6 + 0 with EDD 29 August. Have updated the list.

Just wondered if anybody else has booked in to Queen Charlotte's Hospital for their birth. I have my first appt with midwife this coming week and it is 3 hours! Is this typical? Does anybody know what they do for 3 hours? There isn't even a scan.

I will then have subsequent scan + I have also booked into the Fetal Medicine Centre for the end of the month for the nuchal scan. How am I going to get all this time off work? What will I tell them? I haven't called in sick once in the past two years - until this pregancy!

HeinzSight if it?s twins you?ll have five children!

Kanuck tell work, in confidence, you are pregnant, then they have to let you take the time off and it is not counted as sick. It is in your best interest, oddly, even if things go wrong.
