Message from Ceebee found on our old TTC thread:

Samuel Jake born this morning at 10.10am, weighed 9lb 4oz. all ok and he is gorgeous!

Congrats hon! I bet Samuel is gorgeous and strapping.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 18:43

Ooooh, Congratulations to Ceebee and welcome to Samuel

Can't wait for the pics!

hana, my doula was against a sweep too, as was my consultant. The doula as she said it only works if the baby is ready; the consultant for much the same reasons, but also because it is an uneccesaryt intervention and I was trying to avoid them to have the best chance of a successful vbac.

barbareebaa · 20/11/2008 18:48

Congratulations ceebee - gosh fab weight!! Welcome baby Samuel - can't wait to see pics!!

Hanaflower haven't heard this as a reason to not have a sweep - surely you would know if you are in 'true' labour. Aren't the niggles normal at the end of pregnancy anyway?

Yorky · 20/11/2008 19:11

Congratulations Ceebee, love the name, what a big boy!

Chocolategal, go for gold!

Barb and Drswife, I so know where you're coming from, it is so frustrating when nothing seems to be happening.
Understand the reluctance to do sweeps just for impatient mums, but very glad the MW yesterday had no scruples otherwise it would all have been a bigger shock when it happened, and we'd never have got the pool filled!

Amy Lorraine is beautiful, slept like a baby all afternoon - can she be nocturnal already? Her big brother is really sweet with her, just waiting for the novelty to wear off and reality to kick in!

Heartmum2Jamie · 20/11/2008 19:11

I really don't know Hana. I had 2 sweeps. The first did almost sod all, certainly didn't give me niggles or anything and the second one put me straight in labour, but I reckon I was probably in very early labour anyway and it just helped it along. I think your way of looking at it is a good way. If baby's head isn't too high, go for it if that's what you want.

ChocOrange05 · 20/11/2008 19:24

Hana I had 2 sweeps, the first did nought but within 24 hours of the second I was in labour and Mack arrived within 48 hours. I really wanted one as I wanted to avoid chemical inducement at all costs so IMO they are def worth it.

Good luck everyone else waiting for babies and congrats ceebee!!

I have uploaded a photo of me and my darling onto my profile - my darling who is currently belting his lungs out to stave off sleep - fingers crossed he will settle himself soon!!!!

chocolategal · 20/11/2008 19:38

evening ladies,
congratulations to ceebee
another big baby too!!

lovely pic choco
if your having sleepless nights, your hiding it well!
thank you everyone for your good wishes
i am still contracting away!
it is varying tho, for an hour or so they are coming every 4-5mins then it eases off and for another hour they are every 10-15mins.........im guessing this is normal for 1st labours?????

pain wise im just about coping with TENS and rocking on gym ball, have also been in the bath a couple of times.

hana, i was all for the sweep, i dont think it will start anything that isnt ready to happen anyway.

i had one at 39+5 and it did absolutely nothing, then another today at 40+5 (was already having ctx tho) and it produced a bloody show and now having regular ctx.

the MWs i have spoken to about it really encourage it as it might reduce chances of needing an induction.

go with what you feel is best for you

LeakyDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 21:01

Yorky, I missed your earlier post about DD's name.

Welcome to baby Amy Lorraine

LeakyDAISYcal · 20/11/2008 21:02

Chocolategal, how are things now? Any progress in those contractions?

twinkle183 · 20/11/2008 21:27

Evening ladies... good to hear that things are progressing for your choco!!! Lets keep it going....

Congrats ceebee what a beautiful name!!

Well what a afternoon I have had... firstly good news is that dh is on his way home - yay!!! Secondly went to the midwife and she couldn't tell whether the baby head was down or not so had to go to the hospital for a scan and a monitoring as the babys movement has reduced some what! Glad to say that everything is fine and that I am in early labour according to the machine - however no show or painful contractions so have to go in again tomorrow around half two if I am preggers just to check baby is ok!!! Sorry for the long winded message...

These tightenings are a pain in the arse but at least I am getting them, refused stretch and sweep as want to go in to labour naturally!!! If the baby is ready it will come - just hope dh manages to get home in time as he is driving from Cornwall to Cumbria!!! Oh and while I was being scanned checked the sex of the baby and the midwife said which I thought was a bit inappropriate theres a baby on that willy... so confirmation that I am having a boy....

twinkle183 · 20/11/2008 21:28

Oh sorry nearly forgot what a beautiful name Yorky

Pinkyminkee · 20/11/2008 22:15

ceebee congratulations on the birth of your baby boy! Welcome to the world, Samuel!!!. Sounds like you didn't have to wait around to long, either, which is fab.

toolly · 20/11/2008 22:19

RE sweeps. With DS 1 I had a sweep at 9 days overdue. Within three hours I had started period like pains, but also a raging temperature (not fun)
The doc told me I was already 3cm dilated. I have refused a sweep because I feel the more fanny fiddling that goes on the more likely you are to get an infection. I am 41 weeks tomorrow, and the midwife is arranging for me to see the obstetrician. I have written in my notes that I will only consent to induction of labour if there is a clinical need, not because I fit a protocol.
I am also booked for a home birth so I have until 42 weeks to get things started. It's your decision.

chocolategal · 21/11/2008 04:19

goodluck twinkle hopefully we will both have news later today!

i have been contracting overnight every 15mins, have just gotten up as they are definately worse when lying in bed pain wise. REALLY hoping they up a gear today as this is day 3 of them!

reluctantincubator · 21/11/2008 08:07

fingers crossed that today is the day chocolategal! Every 15 minutes through the night sounds like progress though hope the lack of sleep hasn't left you too tired! Good luck!

barbareebaa · 21/11/2008 08:22

Good morning!!

Think I have a had a little water leak - ooh - got up to feed the cat (before she started tappity-tapping on the bedroom door )- I was naked () and noticed liquid dripping down my leg and onto kitchen floor!!

Do you think it's waters? No gush, I don't appear to be leaking now though am wearing towel.

Do you think I could be starting? I am 10 days overdue after all Should I phone mw or wait and see?

Good luck Twinkle and Chocolategal - here's hoping today's the day!!

chocolategal · 21/11/2008 08:27

barbareeba sounds promising, i would keep moving, try to get ctx to start then if it was your waters then more will come!

thank you reluctant i know it sounds a lot but i was getting them every 5mins yest so this actually seems like everything is stopping!
im knackered as have been up the last 2 nights!

going for a walk to see if i can speed them up again

barbareebaa · 21/11/2008 08:42

have been asked to pop to hosp for checkup.
Heh - Dh is going to miss his lie in - he didn't come to bed 'til 2a.m. [evil grin emoticon]

chocolategal - do hope things step up a gear for you - you must be shattered x

chocolategal · 21/11/2008 08:49

oooh, goodluck barbs let us know how you get on

we need at least 1 baby today!

LadyBuzz · 21/11/2008 09:30

Chocolate, Twinkle, Barb - sounds like today could be busy! Lets hope the babies make a rush for the finish line - we could have triplets!

We have had the night from hell.
DS has a snotty nose and cough so was awake during the night. DD (giggle - seems odd typing that!) woke me at 1, then fed almost constantly from 2 till 530 when I fell asleep with her still latched on! I got up with DS at 815 - bless him for not getting up at 530! - as DH also has cold (not particularly sympathetic emoticon!) then went and woke DH anyway to take DS to sing and sign. Baby is still sleeping like she's been up all night!

Tinkerisdead · 21/11/2008 09:52

Nope, im still here...pregnant BOLLOCKS
midwife is coming again in bit, i just know she is gonna offer a sweep again. i bloody hate them hands up my fanjo, this will be the 4th attempt! i better try it though. im 41 weeks today. booreeddddddd.

yorky love the name amy lorraine
ceebee Samuel is also lovely, had it on my list but Dh wouldnt allow a name that was shortened

i would like to say good luck to Twinkle barb and Chocolate but i am worried that statistically if your all having babies, i wont. However i am planning to niggle all day today and have my baby tomorrow morning. i have always predicted the 22nd for this baby. good luck to you girls, get your babies out today and leave some birth vibes for me tomorrow
