momino we go through patches like That too.. he does sort himself out most of the time but he's also very appreciative of err how do i put this.. having a hand in the sorting him out! so if i'm not up for sex this is our alternative.. this way i'm involved and he still gets a feeling of us spending some intimate time together..

runningmonkey · 16/11/2008 18:09

momino No advice but some solidarity - I am in the same situation. DH being so lovely but just not in the mood to show any appreciation. We had a long talk about it and he is being v patient at the moment. Not sure how long it will last tho.

SpangleMaker · 16/11/2008 18:23

momino I empathise - the 'horny pregnant woman' thing hasn't kicked in with me. I do think you need to tell him how you feel - that it's nothing to do with him, you still love him & find him attractive, but you aren't feeling right in yourself at the moment. I've also gone for Fi's approach (particularly when I was having bleeding and didn't dare fully participate) and DH did appreciate it.

detsy your poor DD! You must have been so worried about her. Hope she's better soon.

What is everyone doing about drinking alcohol? I totally cut it out from BFP until about 12 weeks; still abstaining at home but have had a small glass of wine or couple of halves of shandy on the few nights out we've had (only once a week). Last night did wine tasting only small sips but did try 10 wines Am I a bad mother???

FiKelly · 16/11/2008 18:52

well this is my 3rd whole day with no nausea! Yay looks like it followed the same pattern as when i was pregnant with DS... I was really hoping that the extreme nausea of last week was the end of it & yay it was.

The only thing is that i'm now kinda missing it?! weird I know but the nausea reassured me that i was still pregnant and although I've got a bump i'm not feeling any movement yet... not due back to the midwife till beg dec so no hearing heartbeats till then. 14wks tomorrow so fingers crossed I'll get some fluttering soon.

pulapula · 16/11/2008 19:37

Spanglemaker- I haven't had a drop of alcohol since BFP - craved it a lot at first, but not that bothered now. In previous pregnancies i've had the occasional drink in the third trimester, and I might have a small glass of wine at xmas (I had alcohol-free wine last time but it doesn't taste anything like the real thing). I've started drinking alcohol-free beer at home, which goes down nicely.

frazzledoldbag34 · 16/11/2008 19:56

Am busy eating crisps at the moment but just wanted to comment re-sex and alcohol!
Sex - I am SO not up for any at the moment. DH understands (this is my 3rd preg and I'm always the same). Things tend to improve later on in the preg but at the moment I have no inclination whatsoever. I felt sorry for him on Friday night - he was so lovely (and desperate) so we DID IT but it was rubbish (or I thought so anyway). He quite liked it! I wish I could turn into a horny pregnant bunny but it's just not happening. Big wobbly slightly tender boobs and my burgeoning bump make me feel anything but sexy. I generally feel much sexier when I have a proper bump (it tends to make the rest of me eg, bum and thighs look tiny in comparison!!!!!!) Anyway Momino you are not alone. Just keep telling him you love him and perhaps consider an (ahem) hand job or, if you could face it a BJ??? By the way, I am NOT up for the latter either, but poor DH does ask occasionally. Usually the answer is only yes after quite a lot of vodka (so obviously not at the moment!)

Re: alcohol - I don't really miss it although I did have a small glass of lager a couple of weeks ago. It tasted like heaven! Haven't had anything else since before my BFP. Am looking forward to a glass of champagne on Christmas morning though.
I reckon in moderation alcohol is fine - I would drink a little if I fancied it, but I just don't.
Detsy - hope your little one is ok.

agooboo · 16/11/2008 20:27

Haven't had a drop of alcohol probably since conception! LOL but I wasn't a drinker before hand so don't really miss it.

As for sex - I go through patches of really not wanting it becuase I feel bloated/tired/sick to actually not minding it. I wouldn't say I was gagging for it though!! LOL. DH gets frustrated when I don't want it but he realises it's short term. maybe chat to your DH about how you feel at the mo. I'm sure you probably will fancy doing it soon - the 1st few weeks don't really make you feel very sexy or in the mood for it.

Has anyone got one of those maternity pillows? If so any recommendations? Think I'm going to get one this time as they look soooo comfy.

alapala · 16/11/2008 20:40

aaaarrgh we are a house of chicken pox so definitely no booze (or sex!) going down here, just an unbelievably miserable DS. My stomach has completely popped, so thankfully I told my boss last week (the original baby hater) because it is rather obvious now..

EmmalinaC · 16/11/2008 20:50

Momino you are not alone and nor is your DH. Same situation exact here too.

Spangle I'm having the occasional small glass of wine too, maybe once or twice a week. I abstained for first 12 weeks too. You did a wine tasting and only took 10 small sips?! I think that makes you a very good mother!

alapala I hope your DS is better soon. We had the pox here last Christmas but fortunately the really ill bit only lasts a day or so.

detsy · 16/11/2008 20:59

Thanks for the concerns about DD - she is much better tonight - horrid virus though.

Very little sex going on here - no energy or enthusiasm but occasionally revert to a HJ. DP is feeling very neglected and like Momi i think we need to have a chat about it. Part of my prob is stress incontinence with the coughing - feels very unattractive indeed. I also have pale skin and blue veins show like crazy on my boobs when pg - a throw away comment about the English counties on my boobs did nothing for my confidence the other day!

spangle do you want my jojo wrap top, I'm not going to bother with it again so its yours if you want it?

alapala chickenpox - poor DS but its best to get it when they are small. Guess you're going through litres of calamine lotion. Hope he feels better soon

Very little alcohol since conceiving as just not in the mood for it - never really got back into drinking after DD as hangovers with a baby are a nightmare!

So whats good on the telly tonight - sent DP out for pudding and he came back with.....yogurt....

nauseous · 16/11/2008 21:04

Ladies, and particularly Momino I can definitely sympathise - there's very little bedrooom activity in our house either and at times I do feel a bit guilty - especially when DH has been so good at looking after me recently! I'm sure you can tell your DH that this is pretty normal in these circs! But like FiKelly I would say there are ways around it!

Re the alcohol Spangle I've not really had any since finding out about the pregnancy, apart from a few 'pretend' sips when out with other people and I didnt want to tell everyone I was pregnant... I'm making do with just sniffing wine!! Having said that I might have a teeny bit of champagne next time there's some going around.

PulaPula please tell me what the brand of non-alcoholic beer is please? I'd definitely like some!

nauseous · 16/11/2008 21:05

sorry for the double thread...

pulapula · 16/11/2008 21:10

Nauseous - I've been drinking cobra non-alco beer. I have tried becks, stella, bitburger drive, and caliber non-alco beers before, but cobra is my favourite.

nauseous · 16/11/2008 21:11

And also - does anyone know where you buy those stretchy band things to keep up your jeans whilst you've opened the fly...? Not ready to buy maternity gear yet.

nauseous · 16/11/2008 21:13

Thank you PulaPula - I'm strangely quite excited at the prospect of non-alcy beer!

agooboo · 16/11/2008 21:22

nauseuos - don't know if it is what you mean but topshop do a 'belly band'. I have taken to threading a hair band throught the button hole of my jeans and then wrapping it round the button a few times to keep my jeans up. temporary solution but works quite well!

divedaisy · 16/11/2008 22:11

nauseaus - new look do a set of 3 for £9. I bought a set and to be honest I don't think much of them - they do keep your trousers 'up', but if you bend over or sit down, they don't move with your trousers and you end up with your trousers falling down your bum!!! They work best in conjunction with a belly belt that holds your trousers fastened, and under other tops that are too short and you want to hide the belly gap!!

momino - DH complains that I was sexed up in order to get pregnant, but since getting the BFP I've not obliged! I was too worried about MC in early weeks, but I've given him plenty of HJ and BJ to keep him from complaining. Though some times I hate the smell of him...(sorry if TMI) Did try the whole hog the other night, but between me needing the loo 4 times in an hour(!!) and his work phoning towards 'the end', and having to start all over again, and finally him getting leg cramps (!!) it was a anticlimax - for him anyway !!!!

As for alcohol, I've had the occassional glass of magners, but really I'm not interested. We'll be in our apartment in Bankso, Bulgaria for Christmas, and I'd like a bottle of their fantastic red wine. But it'll be lovely to have a real white Christmas with log fires!!!

divedaisy · 16/11/2008 22:22

beekaboo - it's pink grapefruit juice for me! I could drink 1/2 a litre of it at a go! OHHHH! I love it! And I go through a load of clemintines, satsumas or mandarins also!!!

divedaisy · 16/11/2008 22:26

On the subject of alcohol, I haven't had any, even though I've been majorly craving sherry and I don't know why!lol I've bought some asda extra special shandy and I think it's really nice, especially from a wine glass lol I'm not a particularly big drinker anyway, will probably have a glass with dinner on Christmas day and that'll do me.

On the subject of maternity pillows, I've been complaining to DP for ages about not sleeping properly at night, due to getting up at least ten times too pee (and I'm not joking) and just beening generally uncomfortable, as I am normally a belly sleeper and due to my expanding bump, I can't sleep on belly at the mo obviously, he very kindly ordered me a Dreram Genie pillow, slept on it last night and fouind it very comfortable. It's like two pillows either side kinda thing, as they reccomend sleeping on your side don't they.

I'm on line but have been busy listing a heap of our DVD's that we're getting rid of in our mass clear out of guff... 30 down & just 48 to go. Not tonight though as had enough of doing them!

FiKelly · 16/11/2008 22:48

Just caught up with everyone's news

detsy glad dd is feeling a bit better what a relief for you.

alapala on no chicken pox... better it's now and not the week of Christmas

on the subject of alcohol... i've been a 'cheap date' tolerance of alcohol girl for years and since having DS i've drank even less... Also found dealing with hangovers and toddlers difficult esp after the late night/wee small hours of last night..

I can't remember the last time I had an alcoholic drink... i'm pretty sure it was in the summer some time! Like the idea of the alcohol free cobra though Nothing like a cold beer/lager esp when it's so cold it makes condensation run down the glass... mmmmm
