Here's a new thread for us all lovely Dec Mums!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
traceface · 06/11/2008 12:00

just looked at Hotmilk - if I bought their products would I look as hot as those models?!!
My current plan is to wear my old nursing bras from last time (credit crunch...blah!) but hopefully I will end up a different size and we obliged to spend money on myself!

Veggiemummy · 06/11/2008 12:03

i am so behind on this thread it ook me so long o read the eary stuff i missed a load of later posts.

Beans- hope you at least glared in a menacing way at that boy.

Traceface- i think a lolly after jas are fine, if i have to d something i don't want to i always get myself a chocolate so no different really.

katie3677 · 06/11/2008 12:37

JJ You're right, in the rest of Europe they think we 'undercook' our babies, as they estimate it on 41 weeks!
Feeling awful today as I had a dream last night that I rolled over in my sleep and broke the baby's neck , then spent the rest of the night lying awake waiting to feel it move, which it didn't until this morning, serious panic going on for a while.

SummerLightning · 06/11/2008 12:38

Hello everyone, am also feeling very behind on this thread. If we keep talking at this rate maybe there won't be any arrivals on it after all!!

jump hoping I don't pop at 41 weeks as that is Christmas day! I have fingers crossed for a (slightly) early baby. I used to walk along reading until once I walked into a lamppost, and lots of people laughed at me!!

verso hope you are feeling less fragile today after your fall. Also boo to the job thing, if possible I would try and put it out of your mind and enjoy your leave, then KICK ASS when you get back, making sure they promote you sharpish or you take your skills somewhere where they appreciate you

kayz hooray for successful appointement and all being well.

Quick question: anyone know anywhere nice for maternity clothes for tiny women? Want to buy my sis in law something nice for Christmas and she is a small size 8 pre-pregnancy and has trouble finding clothes small enough. Would quite like something of nice quality/design, eg Isabella Oliver type thing, but I think their smallest size may be too big. (Oh and she is also short, 5'2", not that that really matters if I get her a nice top, which is probably safest)

Kimberly1979 · 06/11/2008 12:40

WG Yes I am American. I also swear by those little plants! We always kept one around the house, it was great for burns of any kind and cuts and scrapes.

Anyone else feeling like they've been punched in the soloplexes? The baby hasn't been kicking that high, but I seriously feel like someone has hit me there. Maybe the muscles are continuing to stretch out.

Also... anyone know of a LARGE Boots in London? The one we have here in Leytonstone is tiny and there's not much selection on baby stuff.

SummerLightning · 06/11/2008 12:46

mmm...just seen Isabella Oliver goes down to a size 0 so that may fit after all...hmmm...I have a size 2 top from there and my top half is usually a 10 so it may fit...

zoejeanne · 06/11/2008 12:47

verso it goes from bad to worse with your job, I'm on your behalf

veggie might find out more about that BF thing, luckily I live between 2 smallish towns and the other has a great BF support centre (although its a charity and voluntarily run). But I have at least 2 friends who gave up through lack of support and that makes me sad - I don't intend to beat myself if it doesn't work, but if it's simply a lack of not having someone to show me the right way then that doesn't seem right to me. OK, rant over now!

katie what an awful dream, glad babykatie is moving again now.

Kimberly1979 · 06/11/2008 12:52

Summer I am very petite (4'11") and have had a hard time finding petite maternity clothes period. Everything is usually sold out. Did have some luck finding a pair of trousers at Mothercare and should've grabbed 2 pairs since I haven't been able to find anything else in my size or that wasn't totally outrageously expensive. You might check out funmum.com or CraveMaternity.co.uk/Maternity. Topshop and H&M also have petite maternity clothes as well.

waitinggirl · 06/11/2008 13:25

big boots: either piccadilly circus (but it is vile) or the one on oxford street between bond st and oxford st tube stations. are there any massive boots at retail parks?

TheInvisibleHand · 06/11/2008 13:35

SummerLightning - ime Isabella Oliver are quite generous in their sizing. Formes might be a better bet - lovely clothes and being French, they seem to be a bit more petite. Its a bit of splurge, similar sort of pricing to IO, but quite stylish.

How depressing is this? My boss was just kindly suggesting I might want to go and clear up my smeary mascara. Until she figured out I wasn't wearing any make up at all, and I must just be exhausted! Don't actually feel too terrible, but I do keep missing out half the words in any thing I write, so maybe there is something in it.

daisydora · 06/11/2008 13:52

beans well done on new thread - took me a while to find it, my brain is now much

verso glad your ok, must have been scary falling like that.

Been to consultant this morning and am to have c-section on 25th November! Just 2 1/2 weeks away - very scary. Thankfully I'm first on the list so apart from any emergencies I shouldn't have to wait about for long. Can I still post on here even though I am now having a November baby??

SummerLightning · 06/11/2008 13:59

I think verso and ladyt are both having c-secs on 25th Nov, too, hang on will copy over the list so we have it on this thread:

just posting in to put this on my list...

And to add to the mother and baby cinemas list - the Rio in Dalston does mother and baby screenings, they have a rather "arty" list though - immediately post-baby I was more craving braindead tosh that my sleep-deprived brain could keep up with, rather than harrowing subtitled fare.

Turniphead1 · 06/11/2008 14:25

Phew only been out for a few hours and it's all go.

Verso hope you have got over that nasty shock. I fell down the stairs in all of my pregnancies and it's horrid. We just get so clumsy. Hope you are feeling ok today and not too bruised.

Zoe yup you and me and Kimberly Emma and the end of December gals might not give birth til NEXT YEAR....oh my goodness.

Kimberly have you tried Boots online - or do you want to touch and feel? Mothercare in Oxford Street (if you can bear) and of course John Lewis have a big selection of baby toiletries etc etc. Biggest Boots I was ever in was in Birmingham, but that's not much help

Beans yes you should have belted the horror. I hate that. I hope your MiL continues to improve.

Daisy lucky you with your date! Don't leave us, you are still a December gal.

invisiblehand - maybe your boss now realises you are working too hard??

WG sorry to hear of your burn. Everyone seems in the wars eh.

Katie what a horrid dream. Hope you aren't too knackered.

Kayz so glad the ante-natal appt was good but shame about the back. Have you tried seeing an osteopath? They can do wonders. I am just back from mine and he really helps with the SPD.

hatty impressed with the pints story! Do you think you could still do it now??

Jump yes, its odd that we have this 40 week obession and everywhere else in Europe it's 41 weeks. My poor friend is STILL in hospital since Tuesday being induced and no sign of a baby. She was 40 weeks bang on when they took her in - but very clearly that baby ain't at all ready to come out.

Hope everyone happy about the massive interest rate drop. (Feel very old and boring to care about such things) But it will make quite a big difference to our mortgage payments.

Hi all - just added my cs date.... wish it was sooner as i'm getting booted on the right hand side constantly! Verso hope you are feeling better now.
Eating - i've got that same tummy rumbling hungry feeling but full to the brim at the same time feeling and not sure what i really want!

JamInMyWellies · 06/11/2008 15:27

Hi found you all! Will go back in a mo and read up.

Had a bit of a panic this morning mini munch would not wake up no matter how many drinks etc I tried to have was even chugging full fat coke at 9.30 this morning. So ended up at the midwives at lunchtime. Typically as soon as she placed the monitor on my tummy it started jumping all over the place!!

Tight off to read up.

TheInvisibleHand · 06/11/2008 15:37

OOh turnip - missed the interest rate news! Should be v good for us as we're on some kind of discounted rate deal...

Fraid there is no possibility that I get off the hook because I look like a zombie.

jumpjockey · 06/11/2008 15:43

Here's the info about estimated dates. At the moment the due date is given using "Naegele's rule" which reckons on pregnancy being 266 days from conception, 280 days from first day of LMP. Naegele lived 1778-1851 Unfortunately his rule assumes that everyone has a neat 28 day cycle and ovulates on day 14 and then conceives on that day. This study looked at caucasian women who apparently have the longest gestation of any race (so not relevant to everyone I'm afraid) and found that for first time mums pregnancy is actually more likely to be 274 days rather than 266, and for second and subsequent it's 269 days. The method of calculation is given below.

Basically for me first day of LMP was 5th March, so calculated due date was 10th December. Going by the revised suggestion, due date should be approximately 20th December I'm not sure how this is then reconciled with the date as suggested by the scan, 8th Dec. Basically the gist of it is, don't get fixated on 40 weeks and then fret about being late! The reason so many babies come the day before a booked induction is because that's when they're ready, and no earlier...

The length of uncomplicated human gestation
Article Abstract:

The predicted duration of a normal pregnancy, from conception to due date or estimated date of confinement, is calculated using Naegele's Rule. This rule states that the due date is 280 days from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), or 266 days from ovulation (with a menstrual cycle of 28 days, ovulating on the fourteenth day). It is suggested that the length of a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy may actually be longer than Naegele's rule predicts. Studies have usually included both normal pregnancies and those which were complicated by maternal medical conditions, and in complicated pregnancies, the baby is often delivered early. This has made it difficult to isolate the data on length of gestation in normal, healthy pregnancies. In this study, the length of a normal pregnancy was evaluated in women who kept reliable menstrual records; the subjects were 114 white women seeing private physicians for their prenatal care. In patients delivering for the first time, primiparas, the median (average) length of pregnancy from assumed ovulation to delivery was 274 days. For women with previous pregnancies, multiparas, the median duration of pregnancy was 269 days. Since Naegele's rule predicts that gestation lasts for 266 days, the duration of an uncomplicated pregnancy in white women in private care was found to be significantly longer than Naegele's rule predicts. Based on this study, to figure the estimated date of confinement (EDC) in this population, count back three months from the first day of the last menstrual period and then add 15 days for primiparas or 10 days for multiparas. Baby is coming before Christmas, it is, stamp foot or I will sulk.

EffiePerine · 06/11/2008 15:59

I am hoping for the baby to arrive a bit early as well! DS was 4 days early - actually that would be Boxing Day .

Beans (and anyone else) my address is personal not business at gmail dot com (no spaces etc.). I've hada couple more emails, so will update the list.

emmanbump · 06/11/2008 16:18

Hi lovely ladies,

Friend from work just brought in her nearly 6 week old son. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh just had the best cuddle. Made me late for me meeting but was well worth it. Can't wait to have my own baby in my arms now. Gosh these little bundles really do generate a lot of heat. I was boiling after the fab cuddle

Kim not sure if Stratford have a bigger boots? Next time you are at the branch in Leytonstone ask them where the nearest biggest store is alternatively shop online then you can shop in comfort and have it delivered.

Veggiemummy · 06/11/2008 16:22

i'm a mutliparas sounds a bit like someone who jumps out of a plane into a warzone, i think i would rather be a pimipara sounds so much more feminine. As for the other bits it was a bit too much for my head, i'm still sure i'm due closer to the 21st than my EDD of 15th. Luckily my MW is quite relaxed about the EDD and is just taking it as a rough guide. We are going to discuss at her next visit what we will do if i go over by any significant amount of time.

SummerLightning · 06/11/2008 16:30

Yeah veggie a multiparas sounds dead hard!
I think you should be happy, better than a wimpy primiparas like me.
