Here's a new thread for us all lovely Dec Mums!

verso - poor thing. I hope you are feeling better soon. It's true - you can very easily feel fragile and vulnerable after an accident - but that's because you are - you're carrying a precious life in there - try to get some rest if you can. Thinking of you. xxx

Verso you poor thing, hope you're feeling a bit better this morning. Can you take it easy today while you're achy? I tripped over a pavement in the dark a couple of weeks ago, only landed on hands and knees but it really shook me and poor DH had to deal with me sobbing for about 10 mins. The baby will be fine, if it was kicking it was probably saying "all well in here mum", they're very resilient by this age and there's plenty of protective amniotic fluid to keep them safe. [hug]

Can I tell a falling down the stairs story that might make you laugh? I was reading a book, and didn't want to stop so started to go down the stairs (wooden, no carpet, so quite slippy.... ) and missed the top step. Instead of dropping the book and using my hands to slow down, I kept a hold of the book and used my elbows as brakes instead mmmm they looked lovely for days! That may be taking my vocation as librarian just a bit too far

Morning all,

verso poor you, try and take it easy today and get some rest.

I'm hoping I'll be one of the ones giving birth on this thread, due the 2nd but will probably go overdue like I did with ds! I'm getting fed up now though, & I still have 4 weeks to go!

veggie hope you enjoyed your pizza. I'm really struggling with food atm, all I want to eat is toast and sandwiches. I really need to make an effort and start eating properly again.

pixsix · 06/11/2008 08:24

Verso how terrifying, I hope you are ok today and like others have said that you get a chance to rest while you still feel sore.

Report
pixsix · 06/11/2008 08:27

Even though I am supposedly due on the 1st, I really don't think I will be giving birth on this thread, I am sure I will be following the family tradition of going 2 weeks overdue and being induced plus I think my actual due date is not til the 7th.

Last antenatal class today - Labour and Birth Workshop. Eeeek!

Hope you're feeling a bit better Verso you poor thing. Lots of taking it easy today. Can you take arnica when pregnant? It might help if you're bruised..

JJ LOL at your preserving your book. I thought I was the only person who stupidly tried to carry on reading rather than put book down - quite early on in our relationship DH caught me reading in the shower (tricky but possible) and was slightly taken aback.

There was some chat about nursing bras earlier on. Hotmilk are great - really comfy and quite glam. I've just got some new ones from a website called www.becheeky.com (terrible name). Hotmilk range is currently got 20% off and they sent me some cards which apparently give you another 10% off at the checkout if you type "XMAS08" in the discount code bit.

Hope you all have lovely days. Have recovered from election watching marathon but am such sad case am keeping the newspaper for the baby's box.

is currently got? sorry. Am fending off DS who's shouting "mummy fix it" at me. Slightly hamstrung as I don't know what's broken. And dread to think.

Verso I hope you are feeling better. Take it easy today.

Got my MW appointment this morning. Still slightly worried about the GD but I'm hoping she'll say everything is fine. If she does I might treat myself to some chocolate.

Lal I will have to look at that website. I really want some of the Hotmilk stuff. It looks like real bras rather than just white ones.

Hope everyone is ok.

Oops, just posted on the old thread, so I?ll repeat myself on this one

trace/chutney I?m another one with smell overdrive at the moment, it stopped for a while in the middle, but has come back with a vengeance now!

trace v of your baby shower

pixsix congratulations to your sister on her new son (and to you too)

beans I saw that too, and in an evil way was chuffed that the lady who didn?t want the inconvenience of ML ended up needing 2 years off work ? ha (evil laugh)

turnip you and I can keep chatting for 3 more threads, I?m convinced I?ll be having a Jan baby, and will be slightly disappointed if I don?t and don?t get to enjoy lots of ML first!

verso hope you?re ok today after your fall, that is scary for you.

I got my new carpets yesterday and they look fab (and smell fab too!) I walked round in bare feet for ages last night . And the health visitor came round to introduce herself yesterday and she seems nice. But she did mention something that made me quite cross (not with her) ? there?s a new children?s centre opening locally in the next couple of weeks and we were talking about it. But there won?t be any BF support there because that excludes the Mum?s in the area who are bottle feeding. I?m not a militant ?breast is best? type of gal, but surely it?s just silly to not allow anyone any feeding support

Ha! To make things even better I've just heard that another (younger, sans children, not pregnant) woman at work has been promoted into the equivalent role that I was going for but in another department. I feel great now . Am bad person.

good lord, just looked up hotmilk on google - agent provocateur for pregnant ladies, or what??? looks gorgeous, though. you also HAVE to check out the For Men Only page - it reads like a comedy sketch...

verso - ouch ouch ouch - poor you. i made tea for the man who installed our loft insulation on monday (it took 15 mins and quite frankly we should have done it ourselves and saved the money but there you go) and scalded my wrist. at first i thought it was fine, but actually it's pretty bad. my skin now looks like a dinosaur's with cracks, blisters and peeling. everytime i look at the kettle i feel sick. may well have to buy a new one, just to get over it.

Verso hope you are feeling a bit better, what a nasty shock .

reban, yes email me if you want to be added to the list. You can use your personal email or create a new one if you'd prefer to remain anonymous.

Am at those who are expecting babies soon - I've another month to go before my maternity leave starts, let alone having a baby! Am sure I'll be the last one grumping around on the thread while you all have your babies.

Those with older children,, I;m worried about how DS will cope as well, he's very clingy at the moment. We are keeping him with his CM for a day a week while we're still in London, so I hope that will help.

Flat has finally gone on the market, a couple of viewings already but no offers as yet. I have a house to look at in Colchester on Saturday, so will b heading over sans DS (Dh reckons toddlers and house viewings not a good combo), will get some shopping and nice lunch time in as well

Growth scan tomorrow, judginn by the size of me there should be no issues (fingers crossed). I also had to send off another sample to the hospital to test for Group B Strep, the GP thought it was justa mix-up on their part (not unlikely) so am hoping all should be fine on that point as well.

Re booze,a fter abstaining for most of my pg I'm finding the odd glass of wine a v attractive prospect. I reckon it's not going ot do any harm at this stage.

House viewing sans DS sounds quite blissful - a bit of a holiday for the day!!

Meant to say, Verso - I hope you're feeling ok now - horrible shock to feel so vulnerable. I know exactly what you mean. Some vile little school boy bashed into me on the bus today, squishing my tummy against a bar and I nearly smacked him one!!! Felt really upset and cross!

Beans I would have also felt like belting him one!

Hope everyone else is fine and dandy.

Really feeling tired today, think it's the weather and a bit of disturbed nights sleep.

I'm with ZJ and Turnip not expecting the LO to make an appearance this year but would like to have had the baby before Crimbo.

Good Morning Ladies!

verso sorry to hear about your little tumble down the stairs. Hope you are feeling okay this morning. I know that must have been a bit frightening.

WG Sorry to hear about your arm. Do you have an aloe plant around the house? Might help to put some of that on there if you do.

beans glad to hear that the MIL is on the mend! That's great news.

I can't believe we are getting so close to popping out babies! I'm a bit nervous. Had a lady come up to me and tell me I must be due soon since my bump was so low. I told her not to jinx me!! Baby needs to hang in there until at least the beginning of December! Plus I'm not due until the end of December!

To all you ladies getting new carpet, I am very . Our flat could use some new carpet. Maybe we can eventually talk out landlord into it. He is putting in insulation in the loft though. Hopefully that'll help keep the heat in!

jumpjockey · 06/11/2008 11:03

Effie which bit of Colchester are you looking at? I went to school there, it's really a nice town these days, much more upmarket than it used to be

The hot milk stuff looks lovely, much nicer than the usual. I saw a crop top style bra on a website somewhere where the poor model looked all saggy, hardly the effect you're really after

ZJ hurrah for new carpets, not sure about the smelling them business though!

kayz fingers crossed for the MW meeting.

pix and everyone else thinking about due dates - we had a chat about this with the doula and apparently in Holland, where the induction rates are much lower, they use a more recent method of calculating due dates based on when they actually come in real life (apparently the NICE one is based on a stat that's about 100 years old ) so in fact most mums should be expecting at around 41 weeks, especially first timers. Can't remember the specifics but I can look it up this evening if anyone's interested.

Verso and Waiting hope you're both okay today?

My amusing falling over story was when I was a student - if it cheers you up at all.

Was coming back from the bar a bit worse for wear balancing 3 pint glasses. Tripped down a small flight of stairs and landed on my chest, somehow my instinct made me keep the glasses upright and in front of me and I managed not to spill a drop! Got a round of applause from the whole bar.

Seriously though, hope you are okay. Crappy news about the other womans promotion too - I don't think this company deserves you.

TheInvisibleHand · 06/11/2008 11:30

Verso - that fall sounds like a shock! But the kicks will be the adrenalin. I remember going to a slightly scary film near the end of my pregnancy with DD and she went absolutely crazy. Re the promotion - quite understandable - I'd be pretty annoyed too! Makes you totally human, not bad...

beans - glad the news on your MIL is all good. Parking round the Royal Free is a complete nightmare - even if you are able to pay the charges, getting in the car park there is a complete nightmare. In principle, you do get free parking (or partly free parking) if you are in labour there - you just need to get something from the midwives. You might want to ask what the deal is at Thomases. Actually we're very lucky in that we have some friends who live round the corner from the hospital and have very kindly offered to donate some visitors parking permits so that we can just park around the corner from the hospital.

Kayz and Effie - all the best with your appointments - hope to hear all is well!

ZJ - impressed that your health visitor would come and introduce herself! Pretty sure that wouldn't happen round here. And definitely enjoy the new carpet - sounds fab!

kayz hope the MW went ok - any ketones or glucose?

veggie - am struggling with the food thing too - feel like I could live off crisps and fruit.
I feel like I can't tell if I'm hungry any more because I feel all rumbly-tumbly and yet full to the brim at the same time! Was statving when I woke up but had such bad heart burn after my cereal that I took rennies and gaviscon (no use). Then felt sick and hungry at the same time and now am tucking into cheapo pizza with dd1 for an early lunch! Why don't I even know my own appetite?!!

Report
traceface · 06/11/2008 11:48

EP - am also anxious about how dd1 will react to newborn. She's 4 and has been very keen and excited but I think the reality might be quite a shock. She also starts school in January so will have new sister plus school to cope with within a few weeks (due 13/12) - not sure how she'll handle it.

Am off to tumnble tots shortly - then dd1 has her flu jab - will be giving her a lolly afterwards (bad mummy!).

Report
Veggiemummy · 06/11/2008 11:52

morning ladies, feeling as fluey and snotty as ever starting to think this is a symptom of pregnacy rather than a cold. maybe my body is starting to reject the baby, and thats how labour eventually starts.

Verso- take it easy, you poor thing, and not happy about that lady getting promoted.

Rosemerta- i am the same, food just has no attraction for me at the moment, i am only eating cos i know the baby needs it but otherwise not really that bothered. DH is home late tonight so i have bought a Quorn lasagne ready meal thing so i'll have it with some steamed veggies.

Lal- thanks for that code think i will have a look. No idea what size i am at the moment, i am in the all the old Bravado bras and an elle macpherson maternity one i got last time. can i measure myself to wor out what size i am. I think i am a little bigger under the boobs as i have a permanent red mark there because my bras are a little tight. but the cup size seems ok.

good luck with house hunting Effie.

WG a vit E cream or oil might help that scald. Otherwise you might just hav to let nature take it's course and wait for the scalded skin to peel off. Good news is being pregnant your skin cells grow a bit quicker. just watch it doesnt get infected.

Hello,

Everything is fine. No ketones or anything!! I'm so relieved. I do have a problem with my back and she has referred me to a physio who will probably get me a brace to wear.

I hope you are all ok. I'm getting more and more fed up everyday.

Report
Veggiemummy · 06/11/2008 11:54

oh and ZJ that is quite strange that the childrens center won't have a BF support, i'm sure that contravenes govt guidelines. If you could be bothered you could complain to the local PCT. Esp as most women who don't cont. with breastfeeding say a lack of support was the main reason.

kimb - oh, i forgot about the wonders of aloe vera plants and burns - you're american, aren't you? my american friend swears by them and i used one once and it was miraculous. will try and get my hands on one. thanks for the tip.

i, too, am hopefully not close to popping, despite being engaged and having some very low movements going on. due 21st, hopefully it won't come before then. also working up until the 39th week, so hopefully not before then.

jump would be v interested in finding out about the Dutch calculations for due dates. means i may well be either christmas day or, indeed, my birthday on the 28th.
