Here's a new thread for us all lovely Dec Mums!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 16:11

Hatty, just realised i sounded a bit mean towards your DH, how about you tell him Cbeebies is educational and you are actually thinking of their future.

emmanbump · 13/11/2008 16:30

Hello lovely ladies,

Welcome CatDean

So sorry cannot seem to catch up on this thread. It's moving so quickly! So busy at work I am not getting a chance to catch up tut tut roll on ML

Right going back to try to catch up a bit.

Really tired today. Had a work call last night at nearly 2am poor chap in Indonesia don't think he was aware that I am London based staff. Needless to say was very difficult to get the brain in gear straight from deep sleep and am suffering for my efforts today. Still all good practice for when the bump becomes a lovely little bubba

Hope everyone is well x

jumpjockey · 13/11/2008 16:46

Small whinge alert - I've been trying to get through to the mat ward reception desk to arrange a visit - we've not been so far but it occurred to me that we might end up there so best to get onto one of the tours - have been trying every half an hour since 2 and nobody ever answers. It doesn't bode well for getting hold of a MW when they're needed!

Verso · 13/11/2008 16:55

I'm going to whinge too... they couldn't book me in for my "pre-op assessment" next Friday because they have "overbooked". So they said I should just turn up and they will see me sometime next week . Call me paranoid but after my previous experience with hospital reliability this doesn't exactly fill me with reassurance. I bet I turn up and they send me away as I have no appointment. I could really do without this at this late stage!

Am going to ask my NCT organiser about it as she works at the hospital as a maternity assistant (v useful contact to have I think!) Wish me luck!

Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 17:29

how bizarre you are both having hospital troubles [sarcastic face emoticon]. Verso they will def send you away unless you can produce the name of the person who told you this, actually even if you do that they will probably suddenly not work there anymore.

JJ-it may be that there ward receptionist is away or they may have protected education time, although are you still trying now as it is getting a bit late for that.

jumpjockey · 13/11/2008 17:45

veggie - I could understand if someone was busy for a short while, but all afternoon? Shouldn't they have someone covering to answer the phone?! Especially as it's the only number we're given to arrange any kind of appointment, ask for emergency help etc. It's the reception for the whole maternity dept which has delivery unit, MLBU, 3 wards, scanning, NICU etc... Might try the community MW in case she knows an alternative way to get through to someone.

JamInMyWellies · 13/11/2008 18:02

How annoying re the hospitals. grr

Veggie your DH sounds like my perfect man can you send him my way.

I can defo reccommend getting a cleaner or using an ironing service once your DC are born. We sent our ironing out for a month after DS was born then we used my stat mat for a cleamer for a couple of months made all the difference. Shame this time round we are skint so will be muddling through ourselves.

Indith . My BF is always telling me I should be sent round schools as it would put girls off having sex ever.

I keep thinking that I would like a third but DP is not so keen.

Hi CATDEAN nice to meet you are oyu coming to the meet up next wk?

Oh my secret stork arrived today must get to the post office in the next couple of days.

Mmm I have not had that many braxton hicks this time round which is weird as with DS I had them massively from about 26wks.

Well I am totally and utterly cream crackered at the mo just want to sleep or eat. Went to yoga today and during the relaxation I am sure I fell asleep could well have been snoring .

Also my junk food obsession has begun. Today I have had a pack of toffee popcorn, monster munch, a wispa (there is another in the fridge for later) and I would love to have fish and chips for tea. Must be nearing the end always makes me ravenous for absolute rubbish.

Oh and have finally packed my hospital bag this arvo have gone very light and got about half the stuff I had last time.

Have a good eve all.

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 18:16

Evening,

I feel terrible. Got awful back pains, loads of BH's and feel very uncomfortable. I am so bloody fed up with this. It seems to be going so slowly.

I hope everyone is fairly ok. I want to sleep for the next 4 weeks.

Doozie · 13/11/2008 18:31

Hi December 2008ers!

Hope everyone is well and the baby baking is coming along nicely! I have not been on the ante-natal thread for yonks! This time I'm posting a message before I go back to catch up on the thread, as usually by the time I do that, it finishes me off and I'm ready for another nana nap. (That's no reflection on the thread! Just my lack of stamina!)

I'm ready for this baby to arrive now. I'm getting very impatient and excited at the same time, not to mention a bit uncomfortable. Anybody got any tips to bring it on?

Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 18:57

Indith & Jam- LOL at having sex ed dvd's for schools of your bits.

Jam- i am very lucy to have such a brill DH, don't deserve him but oh well. DS def takes after his dad, it's quite spooky how similar their personalities are. I'm really nervous that this next one will be more like me, grumpy and moody and really really untidy.

JJ- the community MW should give you an emergency number when your around 37 weeks i think i would ask them to give it to you now due to crap maternity unit people.

Kayz- you poor thing i am feeling a little less uncomfortable today but still soooooooooooooo tired, 4.5 weeks left just feels like forever. I keep getting people saying oh x weeks not long now then, so close, but it feels like bloody forever.

Jam- i have spurts of healthy eating then go back to intense junk eating, DH bought me some funsize packs of chocolate bars i love from Australia and instead of just having like one everynow and then i will have non for a day or 2 then eat like 5 in a row. Oh not sure if you saw a post i write last night but please go to waitrose and get a pack of their dark choc ices, they are small so you can have 10 at a time.

Its so bad, I'm in my PJs already!! It's so much more comfy then being in normal clothes.

Oh I ordered this today. Its so cute!!

abbymeg · 13/11/2008 20:23

Katie3677 . Just curious, what does your bump measure now? I'm only asking as I'm 34+4 but measuring 41. They won't send me for another scan as I'm already booked for the c-section (which my MW, after measuring me, concluded was very wise!), so there's no way of getting an estimate on the weight. I'm guessing that this one would be about 7lbs now, but that's based on DDs weight. Goodbye what little remained of my stomach muscles... .

reban · 13/11/2008 20:25

Hi all am doing a quick post before i go back to catch up, but as usual you miss a few days on this thread and its nearly over!!
Had latest check up at hospital on tuesday and they decided no need to scan. Did my fundal measurements and was 34cm at 34 weeks 3 days so so couldnt be anymore "right" for there charts ... am a bit at how the baby was so small 20 - 30 weeks but now is perfect size for age, didnt know babies could have such a leap in size but not ginna question it now!

Anyway hope everyone well and ill be back when ive caught up on the whole thread xx

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 20:27

Abby My MW said if I measured more than 3cm bigger or smaller I would be sent for a scan. I suppose if you are booked in for a CS, it might not matter as much.

abbymeg · 13/11/2008 20:36

Kayzi They gave me one 2 appointments ago, and he was big, but still within the normal range. However, he is much bigger now (I'm measuring 6cms over rather than 4 and have popped out loads) but they said since he's moving plenty and being huge didn't seem to effect DD, he should be fine so there was no need to scan again. I make them big was the conclusion. I have put a picture on my profile of my vastness at the start of this week.

Turniphead1 · 13/11/2008 20:38

Cat your Vicar of Dibly/birthing ball/rellies looking on while you do nip stim made me laugh big time! I have only ever made one meetup and it was small one "just" LadyT and PoisonDwarf (but worth the trip - they are lovely ). I know others have met in Clissold Park (i think) and other more central location.

Sorry you had such a shock last night, but you were just right to go in. But so glad all was well.

I will try and organise a mid-Jan meet up somewhere around E5/N16/N8 etc etc because personally I am unlikely to fit anything in pre-baby.

Hatty I am quite at your DH's comments. Sometimes I think men need to walk a day in our shoes (and with a bowling ball
firmly wedged in the groin RIGHT on their bladder) to truly feel how debilitating being heavily pregnant can be . Yes, it's not an illness - but it really is quite hard - and I am so full of admiration for you doing it with two little girls. Twins are hard too - you have a lot going on. Cbeebies is a godsend and your girls will benefit more from you having a bit of a rest rather than trailing them miserable round whatever ectivity she thinks they need. I don't know what his working hours are like - but my impression is not 7am to 8pm - in which case he should feel free to organise whatever worthy trips etc he wants...

katie - wow what a whopper! Glad you got your date - so close. Yay.

doozie - good to hear from you - you are so close to your due date!! No tips alas, I am a firm believer that babies will only come when they are ready (unfortunately) and sometimes the fixation on our due date drives us nuts!

verso how annoying about your apptment. Sounds like a good idea to get a name if you want to just rock up- sometimes they say anything to get you off the phone

jump I have just washed all my small baby type toys (even though my poor babe will have grotty 3 year old and 5 year old paws with school germs all over him or her). Sorry - forgot who was asking - I always wash clothes in non-bio before putting on a new baby. But it is a good idea not to wash loads of the 7lb "new baby" size babygros in case you get a bigger baby. Wash one pack and then keep the others in the wrapper for return if necess.

Another tip - if you get loads of 0-3month and 3-6 months "outfits" consider returning them for bigger sizes eg 9-12 months(but bearing in mind seasons) as small babies only really need to be in babygros & cardies, certainly for the first 12 weeks and even after that probably don't need a huge range of clothes.

Indith sorry to hear that your varicose veins are bad again - you poor love.

Sorry forgot who mentioned a cleaner - but agree with the point that it can save a marriage . If there is anyway of affording one I would go for it - even if it's just temporary after the babe is born. I heart my cleaner big style!

My friend who had the scan yesterday is fine - yay! Heartbeat seen (only one so far) but all very small so she has to go back next week. She sounds so happy. I am delighted for her.

I had a reflexology massage today and the lady tried to do lymphatic drainage on my legs. They are quite swollen so will be good if it works!

Just saw the M&S xmas ad. Take That round at the Supermodels (and Myleene) house?!? Lovely though!!

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 20:44

I've just thought that I'm 37 weeks next Friday and you are considered full term from 37 weeks!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turniphead1 · 13/11/2008 20:46

reban sorry cross-posted. Glad they are happy with size now. Little one must have been munching more within?

Abbey that's a lovely bump! As Kayz said, sounds like if you are having a c/s in any event they won't bother to scan.

I am having a growth scan tomorrow. DS was just under 10lb. Don't think this babe is as big, myself. Even if they say this one is over 10lbs I am not going to be persuaded into an induction. I am confident my body can give birth to whatever size of baby is within...she said

abbymeg · 13/11/2008 20:49

Thank you Turnip. It does tend to get in the way! Good luck with the scan.

katie3677 · 13/11/2008 20:50

Abby I have no idea I'm afraid, they concluded the weight purely from scan and measuring baby's tummy, head, thighs etc. I would measure myself for you but not sure I'd get it right. Are you under consultant care? If you are and are worried about size, I would ring him/ her and request a sizing scan, for your own peace of mind if nothing else. They did warn me today that they can be up to 1 1/2lbs out though, so it's not definitive. Also, water can make up for alot of the bump size,in my case 11cm's worth, whereas average is between 4 and 8cm's apparently.

abbymeg · 13/11/2008 20:59

Katie thanks. Lots of water! I'm suspecting that's the same for me. I had a scan before, but he's a lot bigger than he was then. The MW seemed fairly relaxed about it - he's moving loads and obviously has lots of space. I'm only concerned in case I'm missing something about what size can indicate. All of my tests are fine, and GTT was normal. DD was overdue (and seriously underestimated in size when scanned), but absolutely fine, but I don't want to not get something checked that could be important. Do you know whether big babies are prone to anything that I should be getting scanned, or are they scanning just to determine that it is big? I hope this makes sense! I'm not due to see consultant again until the CS.

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 21:05

Abby Just looked at your picture and you are quite big!! But you are meant to be bigger 2nd time round. I know I am.

You look great though!!

abbymeg · 13/11/2008 21:08

Kayzi bless you! I finish work tomorrow, thank goodness. I think my size is scaring the teenagers! I'm actually smaller than I was with DD - now that was scary!
