Here's a new thread for us all lovely Dec Mums!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Indith · 13/11/2008 21:10

at these big babies! Ds was only 6lb15oz and that was quite big enough thank you.

Kayz I live in pj bottoms and the bra comes off as soon as I'm done going out for the day

hiccymapops · 13/11/2008 21:16

I've just had a look too abby and you look really healthy

I'm living in tracksuit bottoms at the minute, and just putting on 'proper' clothes when i leave the house

This might seem like a daft question, but i was at a playcentre with Ben the other day when i started getting stomach pains, and it made me wonder, if you weren't too far from home (about 10 min drive) and thought you were going into labour, would you drive home or have to phone someone to pick you up? I don't know if it's safe to drive even when it's just beginning. I'm thinking probably not, but i'll have to ask the midwife.

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 21:21

Indith Same here with the bra. It so much better without it on.

My friend is probably going back to hospital tonight. Still no movements today. Poor thing is having no luck at the mo.

Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 21:23

Turnip- why do they want to do an induction if baby is over 10lb?

traceface · 13/11/2008 21:25

woah that's taken me ages to catch up on everyone...tried to chip in earlier today but as soon as the computer came on it was hijacked by DD who wanted to play cbeebies games!
I've had an odd day - have had kind of period pains all day but not really bad, just there in the background. Also had some stabbing pains but I think that was wind (!). And I have had no appetite - not even for crisps, but have wanted to have drinks and fruit all day - craving juice and thirst-quenching things! I don't feel unwell though - just different for me! My baby was wriggling so much before that I actually felt a bit sick with the massive movements and wanted it to stop, then felt really guilty for wanting it to stop in case it went quiet and then I'd worry!
Indith - am still chuckling at the mental image of you on your ball having a twiddle to some xmas tv trash!!!!
Whoever was talking about c-section scars and overhang - my scar is about 8 cm long and is below knicker line so really neat and not visible - however DH reminded me that it was done at 30 weeks with a 3lb baby so maybe my scar is smaller than normal! I forgot that!
jj/zj re washing toys - I have dug out dd's old clothes and not washed them, and have only washed cuddly toys when they have been 'visibly' dirty - maybe that's lazy but I figured they need to build up immunity anyway -it makes me chuckle when people sterilize their 1 year olds' dummies while the child crawls around in the garden licking worms and eating soil!!!
I've got a scan in the morning to check baby's growth and then my first ever ante-natal class in the afternoon - delivered to early last time round so am quite excited about the class!

traceface · 13/11/2008 21:28

hiccy - have also been wondering what the right thing to do is in certain circumstances. Was worried today that I won't recognise a contraction when I get one, but have been assured that I'll just know! I guess MW will tell us what to do...
Did anyone see Holby this week? It's a good job you can't change your mind at this stage otherwise that episode may have put me off for life!!!

Indith · 13/11/2008 21:29

Hope she's ok kayz

hiccy I wouldn't drive, don't think I'd be able to keep in a straight line if a contraction hit while driving! But then I suppose it depends how your labour starts.

I had the home visit from the MW today so the HB stuff is all sorted. I have "open minded" written on my notes which I find quite amusing. That and the whole "usually you would ring us when your contractions start getting closer together" I laughed and told her mine went from 0-continuous in the space of 2 mins. "oh, well erm, just ring when you think you are in labour...how long was your labour?" 4.5 hours. "Erm, we'll have to be quick then"

Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 21:30

oh Kayz will think good thoughts again, good on her going in each time, hopefully for her it is all for nothing, but d you think they might want to keep her in to keep an eye on her.

traceface · 13/11/2008 21:31

whoops - meant "too early" not "to early" in my other post. at my shameful error!

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 21:34

I don't know Veggie the heartbeat is fine and they sent her home last night. She has a doppler and checks a lot. He just isn't moving. But the MW's and GP's haven't really be at all helpful. She has had very bad swelling, headaches, high BP and other signs of Pre-eclampsia and they have just sent her home.

Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 21:38

Indith my MW lives about 45mins away and is convinced we'll have a short labour and is going to go through what to do if baby comes before she gets here. DH is all excited about possibly getting to be the MW.

This thread is moving fast for this time of night. About being jim jammies at all times of the day, i keep in light PJ bottoms or tracksuits, as i only have 2 pairs of preg jeans and if i sneeze and do a little wee wee in them i have to wash them again, but i have loads of track bottoms (DH's included as mine at this point) so can afford to wash them everyday.

traceface · 13/11/2008 21:38

kayz - how many weeks is she?

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 21:40
  1. She had PE with her youngest and they had to rush her into hospital. She has just text me and she is going back in now.

Right I am off to bed. DS is ill and I'm going to try and get him off to sleep.

Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 21:41

oh Kayz i hope they take her more seriously this time that is all not very good. she should just demand they sort it out.

traceface · 13/11/2008 21:43

kayz will be thinking of her. glad she's going back in. Hope your ds gets better and that you all get some good sleep... (you can always hope!) xxx

Turniphead1 · 13/11/2008 22:35

kayz really really hope all goes well for your friend. How tough for her.

veggie there was some muttering by the M/W about checking the size of the baby and the consultant "not letting " me go over 40 weeks because of concerns of size. Having read up on it, though, given my history (a previous large baby with no complications and a previous 7 pounder) I don't think there are any studies etc that back that up. I am more likely to end up with complications/interventions with an induction imo. Will see what he says tomorrow.

kayzisexpecting · 14/11/2008 06:46

Morning,

She came out again last night. But this time they have taken bloods and sent urine of for further checks. They think she has an infection as she has low BP so its not PE.

We gave DS some medicine and he slept all night. He is still sniffly this morning but he still seems to be his hyperactive self.

36 weeks today!!!! I can't wait much longer, I really can't. I want to meet my baby!!!

Hope everyone got a good nights sleep.

Olipop · 14/11/2008 07:42

Morning!!! Just been catching up. Good news on your friend kayz.
DS has just finished eating spaghetti and pesto for breakfast. It's what he asked for and I thought 'oh what the heck'!!!!
DS was at nursery yesterday and I did some errands in the morning and then went to bed to hypnobirth at 2pm and didn't wake til 4! Annoying thing is that I felt really lazy and guilty!

Strange on the dreams about ex's...very coincidental! I had a random, vaguely unsettling dream about Russel Brand last night. Wasn't really a sexy dream..just a bit odd!

DS currently using his Bosch play drill to 'cut my hair'...mmmm relaxing!!!

I still feel like I have got so long to go!!! I wish I was beginning of dec instead of the end!

Turniphead1 · 14/11/2008 08:50

Kayz glad its not PE for your friend.

Oli what a cosmopolitan little boy you have! No reason not to have spaghetti first thing eh.

Veggie hope you haven't been sick in the night. It's very odd that you have that to deal with so often.

Indith - re; your varicose veins, I just read in my Gentle Birth Book the following; "Bryonia or Calc.Carb 6c for vulval varicosities - one dose twice a day for 3 days (Byronia is indicated if it is worse with movement)"

Not sure if that is any help or if you have already tried homeopathy for it. But thought of you when I read it..

I had ONLY ONE WEE TRIP last night!! Did go to bed late, 11.30 - but think it must have been the massage that helped me sleep so well. Oh if only I could sleep like that every night.

Off to central London for me scan.

mibbes · 14/11/2008 08:59

OMG this thread moves sooo quickly. I thought I'd find it easier to keep up on ML but am struggling !

Anyway, kayz just wanted to say I hope your friend gets some answers, must be a terrible worry for her.

at the big babies - I have no idea how big mine is but the head has always measured 2 weeks ahead of the rest - ouch !

I have heard that fresh pineapples are good for bringing on labour - so I bought a load to start eating next week as I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow - eeek ! Am also on the raspberry leaf tea to tone my uterus . Am considering reflexology too as my SIL's mum has recently qualified... Any more top tips for getting things moving ?....

kayzisexpecting · 14/11/2008 09:09

Mibbes I was told you need to eat 7 fresh pineapples a day for it to have any affect. I might get a few though as I love pineapple. Evening primrose oil is also said to help.

I have had 1 cup of RLT. I must start remembering to drink it.

Can I blame the pregnancy for making me eat Black Forest Gateau for breakfast?

jumpjockey · 14/11/2008 09:13

Morning lovely ladies! Spaghetti and pesto sounds like a really good breakfast [ravenous icon]

mibbes - I don't mean to rain on your parade but the fresh pineapple thing, apparently you have to eat 7 whole ones before you get enough of the enzyme (or whatever it is) to have any effect. Notes from my A/N lady say the following are good for induction:

acupuncture, but for some reason most effective if you're a "primipara" (or as the notes charmingly call it, "nulliparous")

castor oil - but only under careful supervision, and if it doesn't work you just feel like utter sh!te which is not what you need when labour finally does arrive

a sweep

clary sage oil good for reducing fear of labour but has no actual physical effect

raspberry leaf teadoesn't actually bring on labour but can possibly make it shorter (by about 10 minutes... ) and give a lower rate of forceps deliveries (20% v 40% in control group)

So it's up to you which of them you try. Acupuncture certainly worth a go, and if there's a reflexologist in the family it would be rude not to let her practice on you

kayz glad your friend knows it's not PE, fingers crossed her infection goes away and she's back to health soon.

turnip Hmmm, not sure about the whole being induced thing given your history. Definitely take in the evidence you've read, from what I remember of the NICE guidelines there's no reason to induce unless medically urgent and if you've had a normal birth of a big baby and then an average sized one, as long as you don't have any complications it all sounds absolutely fine to wait the usual time before thinking of induction. [disclaimer, I am obviously not an obstetrician!]

My dear sweet deluded DH came out with the most wonderful comment last night. He had a long hard day at work and was really knackered, and said "I'm really looking forwards to a month's holiday". When would that be, I enquire? "Oh, paternity leave, you know, it will be so nice not to have to get up and go to work". and the best is he apparently actually thinks having a newborn will be easier than going to work 5 days a week! What a div!

I'm off to the NCT bumps to babies group for the first time this morning [gulp] a bit nervous, hope everyone's nice

jumpjockey · 14/11/2008 09:16

doh sorry about the x post there kayz! BFG also sounds fab for breakfast, I say looking sorrowfully at a soggy bowl of shreddies.

Then again I have got through a whole tub of M&S chocolate mini rolls since Tues so shouldn't really complain... !

EffiePerine · 14/11/2008 09:18

mibbes: my baby also has a mahoosive head and is off the scale on size according to my last scan . Est at 5 1/2 lbs at 32 weeks. I don't know if I'll have any more scans (the original concern was that he wouldn't grow properly - ha!) but have a mw appt next week so will ask then. I am measuring bang on for dates, so not sure what that is about, Also had to make a GP appt to discuss the results of my GBS test, they won't give the results over the phone for some reason . Means I have to take a whole day off (only GP appt in the morning, mw appt afternoon) which is a bit of a pain.

Sympathies for all those dealing with hospital incompetencies.

I am struggling on clothes atm, I don't have many maternity clothes and they're getting on the tight side! I may have to make a shopping trip (bah). In fact, am tempted to head off at lunchtime and brave Oxford Street. Haven;t looked in Gap yet...

EffiePerine · 14/11/2008 09:20

jj: lol at your DH. I wouldn't disabuse him just yet

am having some v healthy fruit for breakfast - just don't mention the pastry that preceded it or the packet of choc hobnobs I've just stashed in my desk!
