Here's a new thread for us all lovely Dec Mums!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Verso: thanks goodness I am not going completely mad! I am also thinking about having a third and then discounting the idea as utter madness . You'd think I had better things to occupy my mind...

Effie I want to be on the email list too - my email is my name though, so just wondered if anyone else has emailed in that case? Guess it's no big deal so i'll look for the link now..

Day off today - it's nice, I slept until 0930! (off and on)
Just wondered - is it necessary to wash all baby clothes before use? I don't want to open some of them and de-tag as I fear the baby will be huge and some of it quite small stuff - realistically even if it's a big baby he's not going to be more than 4kg -ish right? And most of the newborn stuff is up to 5kg! sorry i'm clueless!

Kayz that was funny about your friend and the story about having rh CS to keep her figure!!! I think with the stretch mark thing, it's really the only thing that may have a slight amount of thruth to it since there's no risk of going overdue and they are usually scheduled at 39 weeks I think.
Aside from that - I'm strssing as I can't exercise for 6 weeks or so after so hoping the BF will kick start the weight loss until then, but not holding my breath!!

kayzisexpecting · 13/11/2008 12:31

My friend is planning another baby and another CS. She has been saving for it for a few months while they ttc.

Verso We have already decided we are having a 3rd. I'd really like a girl after having 2 DS's(if the scan is right) so we said we'd have another. I really want 4 always have done but I'm not sure yet.

Hatty You have to tell your DH exactly how you feel. I had to and now I get a lie in at the weekend.

I have just seen the most lovely thing for my secret stork present but didn't think I had enough money for it on me and the shop didn't take cards. I got home and went to get all the coppers out to go in DS's piggy bank and I found some money I forgot I had in my purse. I'm now kicking myself!!

JollyBear · 13/11/2008 13:24

Hello all,

Kmp I'm washing baby clothes at the moment. We haven't got loads of newborn stuff - about 6 vests and 8 babygrows so I've decided to wash them all. However, if we had more, I'd probably save a few things and wait to see how big the baby is!

hatty How rubbish. I think you are going to have to sit down and say how you feel. Your DH is a lovely man I'm sure, but he's never been pregnant! Get it all off your chest and make sure you get a lie in a few times a week.

My DH is driving me mad not doing enough around the house . He thinks as I work from home I should enjoy a break from my desk by doing some washing up or tidying! So I'm stuck either nagging, doing it all myself or living in a pigsty. I'm going to take some of my own advice and have a word. Not that I haven't been through it all before

Can I ask some cloth nappy advice? I know veggie and Indith are well up on their cloth! I want to buy a few nappies to give them a go but am just overwelmed by the choice. Can you recommend any that aren't too expensive, dry quickly without the need for a dryer and that I can buy online? Thanks

Cat get a cleaner, if you can manage it, seriously. We got one when DD was about a year old because my having to "ask" DH was driving me demented. I didn't quite see why everything was my sole responsibility even when I went back to work full-time . (Can't quite see why it was my responsibility when I was on maternity leave either, given that childcare is a 24/7 job and IMO more taxing than being in the office!)

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say having a cleaner has helped our marriage.

zoejeanne · 13/11/2008 14:03

Hi everyone, so much chat to catch up on again and it's been less than 24 hours!

cat a scary night for you, but glad to hear catbaby is ok

turnip hope you get good news from your friend's scan, fingers crossed and kayz pleased to hear your friend is fine too

pixsix what a nightmare you're having, I hope Mr Pixsix gives them hell, they deserve it

I had a random thought in the middle of the night, when babyZJ was doing his daily disco dancing rehersal. If you're expecting twins, do they have similar rest/active patterns, or when one is wriggling away is the other sleeping and therefore neither of them ever giving you any peace at all?

And on twins, poor hatty, are you still at work or have you finished now? You sound like you have a lot on your plate. And how many other Mum's does he know with young twins and another on the way in less than 6 weeks? Hope you get a bit of support

hiccymapops · 13/11/2008 14:19

Hello again everyone (i'm trying to keep up now!)

Hello CatDean, sorry you had a scare last night. The same thing happened to me when i was expecting Ben, he was usually really active, then over the weekend he seemed to go completely still and my stomach felt really tight, i went to see the midwife first thing Monday morning, and after shouting at me for not going earlier, she listened to his heartbeat and he gave her an almighty kick i could've cried. Not sure why he went so still for a while, but everything was fine. Scares you to death doesn't it?

Verso i'm getting quite emotional knowing this is our last too. I'd love another, but my dh is 45 in January, and is petrified of being an old dad. Good job really, i'm not sure how i'm going to cope with two

Kayz i hope your friend's doing okay.

Hello to everyone else and hope you're all feeling okay

God I'm shattered. I don't like this dh working away business. Ds is actually napping today which he has stopped doing recently so I'm torn between relief as he was being a pest and dread as bedtime will probably not happen.

Have read, shall attempt to post

Pix at stuff going missing. Seriously how difficult is it to get stuff from A to B without losing it?

Kayz, re gay men. Me too. I always fancied the gay Boyzone one. Was also madly in love with a friend in 6th form who turned out to be gay. You'd have thought that the fact that one of our fave things to do was go to the video rental place, hire a chick flick and then watch it with a tub of ben and jerries each would have been a clue

Hello Cat! Welcome to the thread. My ds was due 27th Dec 2 years ago, tis a good date. I won't tell you his actual birthday Ina May is fab, I love her. For your HB, I wouldn't worry too much, so long as the stairs are not too tight to get you down on a stretcher you should be fine. I had ds in a top floor flat with no lift

I know nothing about epidurals, spinals, c/s, catheters etc and intend to stay ignorant. Well, maybe just know the basics in case.....

re formula, as others have said they are much the same and the best way to choose is cost and availability. However, someone was considering having some in as back up if bf failed...don't. If it is there then you are more likely to use it. If it isn't then you think, ok, just have to get through the night and in the morning go and buy some, by morning you've got through the night and things look better in the daytime so you don't buy it and one more day goes by. Seroiusly, if it gets that bad then you will be able to send someone out for some.

Kayz I am ed at you friend, how on earth is a scar and the risk of the c-section "shelf" better than pushing? Crazy woman.

Not that I have anything against sections for good reason as a few of you here are having

Drugs...I don't want any, just remembering the feeling of confusion that came with the gas and air makes me shudder.

at bilateral nipple stimulation I leak so not much chance of dh going near enough to them to make that happen accidently. When I went overdue with ds though (there is a clue Cat) I used to bounce on my ball with my top off watching rubbish Christmas TV twiddling them, all I ended up with was sticky hands from colostrum, didn't kick start labour.

Quiche is nice. I love making quiche (with lots of cream and cheese thanks, I like my quiche fat). Always makes me think of MN though

Jolly for nappies the kiwi quick flip is a fast drying shaped nappy (Flame sells them on her website here or you can't really beat a terry square for drying. Otherwise if you can find yourself some second hand fluffles (tots bots but they don't make them now) then they dry in no time.

I want a cleaner

I also want my order to arrive that was posted ages ago as it has part of my secret stork gift in it and I want to post it!

I would also like my varicose veins to go away, they did briefly and them came back like a plague, multiplied and crept internally too. I have no fanjo, I have a purple alien that would be better suited to a horror film.

Actually that isn't a bad idea...you think a horror film based around my fanjo would cause a drop in unplanned teenage pregnancy?

hungryhorse · 13/11/2008 14:43

hi can anyone help me... I am due in 6 weeks and suddenly my weight gain is spiralling.
I have gained 10 pounds in about 3 weeks (28 in total) and am very worried about what I will gain in the last few weeks.
I am constantly hungry I'm not eating out of boredom... I tried buying lots of fruit but end up eating 5 apples and a bunch of grapes in one go.
I found it really hard to lose weight after my first and so I am really panicking... I wanted to gain only 28 pounds in total but it looks like now it will be a lot more.
Someone reassure me please.

zoejeanne · 13/11/2008 14:52

indith and cat loving the thought of twiddling away whilst the rellies look on!! I read that DH/P's can twiddle and we can get some sleep whilst they do it, I loved the thought of that!

EffiePerine · 13/11/2008 15:10

hh: if you're hungry, eat! Your body is prob trying to tell you something, and a few pounds more or less at this stage is not going to make a massive amount of difference

jumpjockey · 13/11/2008 15:12

Cat / hiccy - it sounds exactly like a braxton hicks - your whole womb/tum goes really hard as it's practicing a contraction. I find that using yoga breathing [hippy icon] helps get through them.

hungryhorse - well, as long as you're eating lots of fruit it's probably fine! The weight gain slows down towards the end I think - or at least it's mostly baby rather than you, so will go more quickly at birth.

EffiePerine · 13/11/2008 15:15

yy to braxton hicks - I get them when walking and they can last for ages. Good news is that it's all preparation for labour

jumpjockey · 13/11/2008 15:17

oh and kmp - last week there was some very sage advice on here about washing baby clothes, if you've got any hand-me-downs or charity shop stuff wash that first, keep the new stuff in its packaging if possible until you know how big the baby is as a lot of shops will apparently take back unopened stuff and swap it for bigger sizes if needs be.

zoejeanne · 13/11/2008 15:24

And on the subject of washing, I had a thought this morning, should I be washing any toys etc as well as clothes and everything I've got 2nd hand?

jumpjockey · 13/11/2008 15:46

ZJ I guess probably yes if you can. On the other hand part of me says not to be too obsessive - the baby will need to build up its immune system by meeting some bugs and things. Hard to strike a balance!

maybe we need one of the more experienced mums to tell us what to do here!

godafternoon, have got back from massage and gymnastic (DS not me) and have slowly read through all the posts

HH- eat what you fancy but might also be worth having some complex carbs available like crackers as the sugar in fruit can actually make you hungrier, but the fruit is good just back it up with crabs otherwise you can get a sugar low when you insulin releases to deal with the fruit sugar and you will in turn crave more sugar.

Indith- i did put cream in the quiche first time i have done that and very nice, all a waste though now.

Cotton bottoms are good flats too, but you can probably pick up some cheap terry's in your local boots or pharmacy.

hatty-your DH is mean, i mentioned what he said to my DH and he said well it's a little different when you are all swollen and tired trying to entertain little ones. DH also knows that givin toddlers 100% attention is very draining, he actually thinks going to work is easier. Esp as he often works away so gets a good nights sleep too.

Veggiemummy · 13/11/2008 15:59

oh and before my pre natal massage this morning the masseuse lady did a session on birth positions and massage with DH,DS & I, it was brilliant, i might be crazy but i'm thinking of actually trying to hold back on the G&A a bit as some of the positions will be more helpful than last time. I wish i had known about all this last time. DS was really into it all as well and the lady was quite sweet about letting him get involved. We are actually thinking about having him around for a lot more of the labour than we initially thought we would. He was just so sweet about it, made me a little teary, he really want to be a part of it, how can little people be so wise.
