when you put it like that! I guess the credit crunch does make it feel expensive! I wish I could have a scan every couple of weeks just to have peace of mind!

I was just looking at various private places and the prices range from around £100 - £300 for all the various tests at diff times! I'm no expert...

My private scan cost approximately £60, but was worth it for the reassurance after a heavy bleed.

During my last pregnancy I had a wobble at around 28 weeks when I midwife told me I was measuring "small" when she measured my bump. Cue much worry, particularly when she told me she wanted to refer me for a scan but that I'd have to wait 2 weeks.

I decided it wasn't worth the worry and waddled off to the private maternity centre and paid to see a consultant. He patiently explained that the bump measurement thing is notoriously inaccurate and scanned me to reassure me. All was lovely and normal and he switched from 2D mode to 4D mode, which was amazing. His calm, reassuring words, together with the 4D scan, was the best £120 I'd ever spent. Normally he charged a lot more for the 4D scan, but he explained that after such a worrying time I deserved a treat. I just wish I could afford to go back and have this baby there privately, it was fab!

Hello all. I did post on here a while ago, but computer has been on the blink since then. Will add myself to t'list & update, but just wanted to say that when I had DD's 1 & 2 (98 & 04) in York, there was no scan offered before 20 weeks Just got my scan through 18 Nov, so I'm actually feeling lucky that I don't have to wait until 20 weeks!

Jonesy, if you are wanting a nuchal scan, which I think you said you were, then 14 weeks is too late for this- it has to be between 11 and 13.6 weeks to be most accurate, and if your dates are a bit out, you may be quite a bit over this. I strongly suggest you go for a private scan next week if you can get one. Our local private clinic has different prices depending on the scan (dating scan is £100, nuchal scan is £145). Worth giving your local one a call to see what they offer.

Sorrym didn't realise there was another more recent page to the thread before my last message so sorry for any repetition.

Jonesy I'd phone them up and point out (forcibly) that you are booking a NUCHAL not a dating scan. Therefore it should be asap since you're already over 11 wks. Please don't let them fob you off - it's important you get seen within the correct time frame. Otherwise you'll turn up and they won't be able to do it - and there will be nothing they can do about it as it will be too late.
Be STROPPY until you get a satisfactory response and appointment.

Hi All

Sorry I dropped off the planet for a while there - I was at home visiting the folks in Liverpool and never got near the computer. Back in DC now and the journey was remarkably painless. I was dreading it with the MS and two dd's running riot, but they were actually angelic (for once!).

I tried to catch up with the thread but it really is LONG! I got as far as reading about Boosts and after that just couldn't think about anything else, and was kicking myself that I didn't have one while I could have in the UK . American chocolate just doesn't cut it .

Had another scan today and all was lovely. Little bean was asleep at first but then suddenly woke up and looked like she/he turned round to look at me and wave - so cute. Size was just right for dates so May29th - though both my previous dds were over a week late so will likely be June!

MrsEvs One of my pals lives in Belgium and he adores plain chocolate hobnobs... but can't get them there either. They have an import shop if he gets desperate for some cadbury's choc and english cut bacon but they don't do hobnobs!

It's his 40th birthday coming up later in November so DH & I bought him a full box of them... about 15pkts I think it was. DH lugged the box to London last weekend to meet up with him & other pals for their NFL football weekend. I can't believe Al's willpower... he'd not opened a single packet all the way home on the eurostar! That may have changed now though

MrsEvs if you get desperate for plain or milk hobnobs... let me know and I'll send you a parcel

Thanks FiKelly that's really nice of you! We can actually get them from an import shop here too, it's just a bit of a trek and they charge you heaven and earth for them too! A can of Heinz baked beans for example costs about 21/2 quid! Never thought I'd think of them as a luxury item, but now we do

Been away in Devon for a few days - fortunately missed the freak weather! Had a lovely time and clocked up a mere 2 cream teas

Congrats to all of you who have had good scans. Frazzled really pleased your scan looked positive. Jonesy - I agree with the others, the nuchal scan has to be done before 13w6d so if you are so much as a day out you could miss the boat - insist they bring the date forward!

Had a slightly irrational hormonal panic on earlier when FIL rang to say he had picked up a couple of parcels (both maternity wear) for me while we were away, which is great, but we haven't told DH's family yet and I had visions of the parcels having 'maternity' stamped all over them and got all paranoid about FIL finding out this way. Fortunately neither did, and I don't suppose FIL knows who/what Isabella Oliver is!

bantam73 glad you mentioned movements. I've been having v v light twitches inside now and again recently. Guess it could well be wind but v exciting to think it's baby

Hallo girls x I've had a lovely day - good nuchal scan so far but no blood results till tomo afternoon. Nuchal fold was 1.4mm so coupled with my ancient age i get a 1:700 stat which (fingers crossed)will get lower tomo with bloods. (£175 for scan and bloods in North West)

Very lively little sproglet with the right number of everything. Then as a treat I went clothes shopping and was quite succesful - woo hoo. Just did high street - Next and New Look as was desperate for jumpers. Also bought some very nice trousers from Crave on line and some other stuff from JoJo. IO is too expensive for me

Germany was ok but very tiring - feel like i did a double shift as left home at 5am on Tuesday, worked in office till 8pm, got on a train to another town in hotel room by 930pm. Meeting at 8am and back in my front door eventually at 11.30 pm on Weds - knackered! Got dd early from nursery and as we both have colds have had a lovely snuggly (snotty) day.

Oh and i asked today how much ultrasound machines are (quite fancied having one in the lounge.... )

£120,000 for the machine and £25000 for one standard probe - won't be getting one..... so guess that explains the cost of scans - but great franchise opportunity if you have a spare couple of hundred k and are a qualified sonographer....

Sprog has same profile as DD and same hb range (155) but my lady today said its just another old wives tale - guess we'll see in May!

Detsy, the more they are used, the cheaper they get. It's having the trained staff and time to do them.

I've just bought a nice plastic folder to put my notes in when I get them. I refuse to advertise Bounty, and I kept getting told off for how tatty they got last time. To be fair I didn't get the Bounty stuff last time, and it wasa pita trying to claim child benefit because it's the only place they distribute the form.
