And hardly anybody knows there is only one antibiotic regularly prescribed that you can't drink on.

FiKelly · 29/10/2008 16:16

runningmonkey how about saying you're half way through a detox and you don't want to muck it up?

FiKelly · 29/10/2008 16:21

If you go down the anti-biotics route say it's for a UTI (urinary tract infection) and that will give you an excuse to go to the loo all the time too.... had one myself 2wks ago and just finished my anti-biotics last week ;)

FiKelly, nice idea but knowing my lovely mates they will spend all evening trying to knock me off the detox wagon The the UTI tack might work tho, was a bit worried that the loo trips might be noticed too - one of the people there is 4months. I'm sure she's going to think something's up. Unfortunately its not someone I know well otherwise I would rope her in as a bluff reinforcer!

Momino · 29/10/2008 16:28

pula and everyone - i'm with you on the toasties and especially the tomato soup. very comforting food.

I also am craving spaghetti hoops on buttered toast. might make that for dd1&2's supper so I can have a bit for myself (though tiny dd2 could eat half a can).

all my terrible cravings aren't doing much for my children's nutritional values - terrible mummy not doing homemade food .

runningmonkey, am afraid you'll have to lie or just reeeaallly nurse your drinks. we were at my bro in law's wedding when i had to pretend. i had to just take little sips and when people weren't looking, DH took big swigs of my drink. i also told people I was under the weather so not my usual drinking self (not a big lie with my MS). Now that I've told everyone, they said they had been fooled!

runningmonkey · 29/10/2008 16:30

Dandylioness, isn't it wierd that people notice these things. Unfortunately I have been just as bad in the past - suppose I should start believing in karma!

runningmonkey · 29/10/2008 16:36

Thanks Momino, I think I'm finding it difficult as I'm usually so open with friends about things. Its also so topical at the moment as about 3 of our 'gang' from uni are all expecting early next year and I got married in the summer so everyone's expecting it!

Hi! Just been catching up on the goings on here today

Runningmonkey - IME if you say you're on antibiotics and are adamant and disappointed you can't drink, even if they suspect they will not ask. (Unless that's just my friends handling me with care after my mc history...) I went out with friends a couple of weeks ago and didn't drink. I phoned one of them this morning to tell her my news after the scan yesterday and she said "That's fantastic but what a relief you've finally told us!"

As for cravings, last week I came home from work one evening and had to have tinned tomatoes heated with frozen peas and pasta!! I definitely have a tomoato thing going. Out of interest, if you craved tomato last time, did you go on to have a boy or a girl?

FiKelly · 29/10/2008 18:48

ses madly craved tomatoes any way I could get them last time... in every meal & had a lovely boy

SesHashadafab12weekscan · 29/10/2008 18:52

Thanks FiKelly
Will be interesting to see if there is a pattern...
Anyone else with experience of tomato craving and having a boy??!

runningmonkey · 29/10/2008 19:20

Thanks all for your suggestions, am going to talk them through with DH nowhave definitely decided to go, am not going to miss out on social life for the sake of a few fibs. Will make sure I let you know how Sat goes!

I'd love to see if there is any truth in the cravings/sex of baby thing. We should make a note of them now and see in a few months time!

pulapula · 29/10/2008 20:33

Runningmonkey,

One "little fib" i told with my last pg was that i wasn't drinking as i was hungover from a heavy night the previous night and couldn't face it. Worked a treat. There was even a discussion about when people say they are on anti-biotics and its a sure sign they are pg. This worked well as I was feeling a bit queasy from ms so easy to fake a hangover.

What I did the other week was drink tonic water and was prepared to say it was G&T but noone asked. Works well especially when DH gets a round in as you can say "another G&T" and keep up the act. If someone else wants to get a round in, either drink slowly or say you'll have a soft one as you want to pace yourself.

frazzledoldbag34 · 29/10/2008 20:39

Have just watched a video of someone having a CVS done on YouTube - freaked myself out TBH. MIne is in the morning. Wish me luck, am sh*ing myself now.

I've used the 'oh, sorry can't face alcohol - was SO drunk last night' line before - it works brilliantly and nobody tries to force alcohol on you, never mind suspect pregnancy. I've also used the 'antibiotics for a severe throat infection' before and I think they sussed me that time.
Have told people now though as I've already had 2 scans and look about 5 months gone so everyone would have guessed by now anyway (or would think I'd been at the dessert trolley). Will be 12 wks on Saturday, all being well.
Where is everyone tonight..........I'm watching embarrasing teenage illnesses with the sound off. Occasionally I glance up to see a scrotum or willy being examined. Think will change the channel - it's not a pretty sight.
Anyway am off to comfort eat my way through the CVS fear.
Night x

Thanks Dandy - luckily DH's jury service call up is at 2pm and my appointment is at 9.30 so he'll be there. Thank God. But thanks for asking
Will report back after its over. Planning to lie on sofa and watch rubbish tv as much as possible tomorrow. Shall do no work, housework, nothing! (or that's the plan anyway).

Momino · 29/10/2008 20:56

hi all.
Dandy - good luck tomorrow. can't wait to hear about it.

just doing some work tonight. DH is making supper (I'm lucky) and is due to call me down anytime soon.

i'm having trouble making myself drink water or much liquid at all for that matter. I never feel so thirsty so maybe my body/baby gets what it needs from food and the little juice, coffee, tea I drink. i hate water though. anyone else?

Momino · 29/10/2008 20:58

i mean frazzled . typing too fast and not thinking.

agooboo · 29/10/2008 21:17

pulapula - haven't actually been craving tomato soup or cheese toasties but am defo with you on the 'cheese and tomato' theme. Stood in the kitchen yesterday and made myself small pieces cheese with tomato.

In my last pg I craved Ice pops. ate tons of them.

my mum reckons if you crave dairy/ate a lot of dairy before pregnacy you are more likely to have a girl. I can't stand milk and have had 2 boys so far.

Anyone suffering with indigestion/heart burn? I got it bad with both pgs and i have been having to prop myself up in bed cos of it.

Treated myself to a grey maternity cardigan from Next today. Got the size 8 and wondering if I should have bought the size 10 - I always underestimate how big i get - but then again I thought it would do for next couple of months before I get too big. Also it will hide my stomach (which I think is starting to grow a bit) as I haven't told hardly anyone yet. I'm quite enjoying keeping it a secret!

runningmonkey - I would go with the UT infection - that's a good one cos there's no way you would want alcohol.

agooboo · 29/10/2008 21:18

momino - I've been complete opposite - can't get enough water and gone off tea and coffee

agooboo · 29/10/2008 21:22

Good luck for tomorrow frazzled
x

flippineck · 29/10/2008 21:24

Dandy - good luck for tomorrow. Hope you can relax tonight.

I've used the monstrous hangover excuse before too, and nobody suspected a thing. It even helped explain my aversion to curry.

flippineck · 29/10/2008 21:27

Bugger, I did the same thing as Momino. Frazzled, I mean you of course. I'm an arse

pulapula · 29/10/2008 21:27

I dont drink any water at all , just decaf tea, hot choc, diet coke, orange juice. Or does fizzy flavoured water count?
