frazzle - It has only been three years since my amnio and I remember every second of it. Basically, you get impaled with a 7 inch needle you are lucky you got local anaesthesia. I got iodine solution as disinfectant and that was all. Needless to say, it was eye-poppingly painful.

Momino · 27/10/2008 14:58

Cote, that doesn't sound fun. I must admit, risk aside, i'm too wimpy to go through with amnio. went through childbirth twice and still can't face needles let alone a 7 inch one .
as it is, i'm not looking forward to that injection at 28ish weeks (is it anti D? can't remember) for the rh neg factor in me.

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 15:03

If you survived childbirth, IMHO you can do anything

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 15:07

LOL Cote

This is my first so I've not survived childbirth yet...

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 15:15

Ses- You don't want to hear my take on childbirth, then

Momino · 27/10/2008 15:17

iknow, cote, I should think that way. we should all feel empowered after childbirth (you will too Ses!). but i'm just a wimp at heart.

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 15:19

I know I'm a wimp!
I'm also v good at living in denial so won't think about the birth until I have to! Just hope I don't start dreaming about it...

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 27/10/2008 15:19

Hi all took ages (again) playing catch up...

gateau so sorry for your loss, very little else I can say except I'm sending you postive thoughts...

cote If this one is a boy we def won't be going down the circumcision route, and I know it is totally a cultural thing. I do think that Data sugesting reduced levels of sti's and aids are misleading though, as however the gentleman ..ahem ..."hangs", condom use IS advised as the only method of 100% protection from HIV and STI's.

Frazzle I have my dating scan on friday then I will have a definite date for cvs, just wish I could get it over with now, I've tolf=d dh I don't even want to look at the screen for the scan as I don't want to get too attached just in case..... don't know whether I'll manage that but it is how I feel I just don't want to tempt fate. Had a check up appt with dd2 and although we thpught she was doing really well one of her blood tests came back raised which means that had to be repeated with the possiblity of going onto meds to reduce any liver damage as a result of her cf for the rest of her life Just so difficult seeing what looks like a healthy 15month old and knowning that her body is fighting her all the way.

anyay on that note I'm off to have a laugh at aibu

SweetBROODY · 27/10/2008 15:21

For some reason not worried about the birth bit.. I think i'll be fine! but then I've never done it.. I kind of think if the worst pain I've ever had and think it cant be worse then that.. And that story of the woman who had it on the train and didnt even know... lol makes me think it will be ok..

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 15:23

Oooh! I missed that story SweetBROODY! Let that be me! Let that be me! (except somewhere private and not on a train!!)

aquababe · 27/10/2008 15:39

I'm having a good day today. Had my scan fab little heartbeat, kicking and wriggling round like a mad thing. Managed to keep on track with my fake dates. I must say it's head did seem rather big still. dh has a big head and my mil spent the whole of my dd's pregnancy trying to scare me with tales of tears and prolasped wombs.

Also I was brave enough to go maternity shopping managed some next trousers for 12 pounds, which I am now wearing. I can't believe how big I've grown so quickly particularly as I'm still puking up.

I too have had really bad constipation followed by explosions Seems to have got better after i stopped taking my pregnacare for 3 days, however I don't want to stop permanently as I need the vitamins as I'm still run down with this cold.

Also after dh's weekend away with my dad he's bought me belgian chocs. just wish i had a sense of smell to enjoy them more as I eat them. Might try and save some for when I'm feeling better

divedaisy congrats on new shop

gateau really sorry your mcing, take care of yourself

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 15:47

aquababe - that's fantastic news
Well done on trousers too!

SweetBROODY · 27/10/2008 16:01

The funny thing (or Scary!) it was in a Indian train.. where the loo's basically open up on the track.. They found the baby and it was safe!

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 16:05

What??!!! Ok, that's not how I want the birth to go then! Thank goodness the baby was ok!

SweetBROODY · 27/10/2008 16:13

I just couldnt beleive she didnt know she was in labour!

TBH I just want the baby to be healthy - I'll deal with everything else that I need to deal with and do whatever is required of me.. I just want a lovely healthy baby boy! Not asking for much hey! lol

SweetBROODY · 27/10/2008 16:14

I am so envious of all these ladies that have had their scans! congratulations ladies on all this good news... I am so so tempted to just pay for one! But I guess its pointless at this early stage!

Jonesy68 · 27/10/2008 16:31

momino on the Ebay thing, don't wait to report it as PayPal only helps you if you report within a certain number of days. I found this out the hard way! Bought portable DVD player off Ebay to take on hols for DS. Found it didn't work after 1st play but by time had got back from hols it he said it was too late and only offered us a £5 refund on a £50 sale! . By the time I'd argued the toss with him via Ebay and then went about reporting it to PayPal, it was past their deadline so had to cut losses. Did buy another on Ebay though and it's fine. I think it's a risk but if it's relatively low value stuff it's potentially worth it. Have also sold loads on there (justifies what I buy!) and apart from the DVD player everything else I've bought has been good.

Hope that helps and good luck getting the boots for DD!

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 16:42

Sorry, I don't buy the "oh we feel so empowered after childbirth" thing.

It's like trying to feel empowered after a car crash. It is painful, shocking, and horrendous. Then your body is a wreck for a few weeks.

'Empowered' is sooo far from what I felt following childbirth, and in the years since then whenever I thought about it. Scared of it ever repeating. Wanting to physically hurt doctors, nurses, and midwives on duty that day. 'Traumatised' is a better description, really.

I did say first timers shouldn't hear my take on childbirth

(Or not. Just being told "It's natural", "Our bodies are designed for it", etc doesn't help when one is being squeezed like a lemon by (what feels like) the hand of God, and then lying there like roadkill all bloody, imho. Perhaps it's better to have a bit of reality injected into the Earth Motherhood fantasy)

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 16:44

La, La, La

agooboo · 27/10/2008 16:44

What a weekend - my gran was rushed into hospital on firday with a twisted and gangreous (don't know if that's how it is spelt) bowel. Went to see her and she's all tubed and brusied. I can't stop crying about it all - think it's hormones.

lareggubb - know it was saturday you posted re: dihoreah. I had it for 2 weeks on and off - i think there is a bug. I went back and forth to docs aout it and he didn't seem overly concerned that I was also pregnant so I wouldn't worry too much - has it gone now?

As for giving birth - I LOVED it! Cannot wait to do it again. (Even despite a third degree tear first time round.) I get giddy thinking about it! LOL

agooboo · 27/10/2008 16:46

Seshasapinkline BTW - both births with just Gas and Air - Fantastic stuff.

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 16:50

Thanks agooboo! All sounds a bit like luck of the draw to me! Just like mc or not...
Sorry to hear about your gran - sounds nasty but like she's getting the treatment needed. I think that would be quite upsetting at the best of times, nevermind in early pregnancy.
Hope you and she are ok.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 27/10/2008 17:11

agooboo- don't think it's the hormones, it's your gran and even at the best of times seeing her like that would not be nice at least she's in the right place and hopefully starting to recover

ses- After my first I would have fully agreed with cote ( I probably could have written her post) however after having nightmares about dd2 ( I was about 7months at the time so in no postion to avoid the oncoming!) I borrowed some relaxtion hypnobirthing cds ( borrowed with more than a pinch of salt as I'm not really into the weirdy beardy stuff) but OMG I LOVED DD2's birth and just had tens and gas and air (unlike dd1 where I just said give me everything!) soooooooo each birth is totally different, and we've a while to worry about all of that yet

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 17:14

I wish we had gas & air here in Monaco. None available in France, either (or I would consider giving birth in France. Nice is only 20 mins away)

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 17:15

I would probably love the birth too, if I had mind altering drugs available
