Right that does it! Fingers are going back in my ears and I'm going to be in denial until about June 2009. Oh! It'll all be over by then!!!

Jennster · 27/10/2008 17:23

2 homebirths with gas, air and tens here too. It will be fine!

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 27/10/2008 17:32

hi everyone, hope all is well.

just wandered bout the nucal scan, do you have to have blood tests one the day of the scan or do they take the results of your blood from booking appointment?

also was wandering if anyone knows if the anti sickness tablets you can take in pg actually help you stop feeling sick or is it just to stop you being sick?

I'm having a private nuchal scan at 12 weeks and hope to have the blood tests done at 15 weeks too (NHS). Decided not to pay the extra £40 for private blood tests. I will then make my own assessment of risk based on the 2 results. Not planning anything more invasive- just helps to prepare more. With my first pg (aged 32) I got a risk of around 1 in 500 from bloods which I thought was quite high compared to some although not considered high risk. I didn't ask for my risk score with second, just know that it wasn't high risk.

agooboo · 27/10/2008 18:05

Have a big appetite today, just had to have a fish bake and now thinking about dinner with DH later! LOL very unlike me.

pulapula · 27/10/2008 18:06

Agaboo, I have 2 teas every night usually- one at 5pm with DCs and one with DH at 8ish. Can't manage without them now lol.

agooboo · 27/10/2008 18:24

pulapula - I think I'm going to have to start to do the same.

agooboo · 27/10/2008 18:40

Whilst I'm on the subject of food - loving Ben and Jerry's Baked Alaska Ice cream - the one with white chocolate polar bears in. mmm.

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 18:44

MatthewAndBumpsMummy I'm having my nuchal scan next mon. I have to get there one hour before so they can take blood and test it in time before the scan... then I get the risk results straight after the scan. When they do it this way they're calling it an OSCAR.

Febes · 27/10/2008 19:37

I had my scan and we have one healthy baby all jumping around and waving at us. At first it looked like a hamster and then like DH. I think its a boy but thats purely on gut feeling so we shall see. They didn't do the heart rate today.

On birth I loved mine even though it went for HOURS. It was the best day of my life the euphoria of achieving the safe birth of your child is better than anything else. It was painful though

Febes · 27/10/2008 19:38

Also 1 in 13000 chance of DS so happy with those odds.

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 19:41

I ended up having an emergency C-section due to pre-eclampsia hitting at 38.5 wks last time with DS so all I'm hoping for this time is the chance to have a go at doing it naturally. If I end up with another CS that's ok but I'd prefer not too.

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 19:43

febes those are fantastic odds... congrats if I could order them for my scan next mon I would!

alapala · 27/10/2008 20:02

I'm with cote on childbirth (all 3 days of it)! Shehasapinkline you want to stay away from these ladies with a great birth - I reckon it's like winning the lottery - if you know someone who has had an easy birth, the odds lower for you!! Also have it in for women with TINY husbands who have small babies that just pop out..

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 20:05

Hey you know how they say things go quicker second time around?

does anyone know if that applies to people that have had normal deliveries 1st time around only or do you think it will still go quicker for me even though I had a CS as my 1st?

SesHasapinkline · 27/10/2008 20:10

Ok alapala - I'll keep my fingers in my ears...

runningmonkey · 27/10/2008 20:14

Hey All,
Just got back from visiting my brother for the weekend and been trying to catch up.

Congrats to all of you who have had scans and good news.

Gateau so sorry for your loss. Hope you are getting good support and tlc.

I have had a rough day today. Just feel really down and worried that something is going wrong. I keep bursting into tears. I think I'm just tired from overdoing it at the weekend (long walk in the hills yesterday) but I feel rubbish and then to top it off, I managed to splash boiling water in my eye while draining some potatoes for tea. OUUUUUUCH!

Re all the birth chat. The first thing my best mate said to me after her first last year was 'you know how much you think its going to hurt, well multiply that by about a million and you're almost there'!!! On the other hand, my cousin popped hers out and said she could do it all over again after a couple of hours, some tea and toast!! Personally, I'm hoping that runs in the family.

Jools1 · 27/10/2008 20:17

I dreamt last night that (at 38 wks), I got out of the shower, wandered into the bedroom, sneezed and a baby popped out - maybe my mind is going in for positive thinking and giving out short, easy birth vibes already

Gateau - so sorry to hear your sad news. ((Hugs)).

Hope everyone else is keeping well.

runningmonkey · 27/10/2008 20:23

Jools that made me laugh Lets hope its that easy.

FiKelly · 27/10/2008 20:27

jools me too LOL think we'll order those all round...

Reggiee · 27/10/2008 20:30

Fi - I had an Em CS fisrt time round due to undiagnosed breech birth. The first we knew she was breech was when I was 10cms dilated in the birthing pool and a foot popped out....but that story's for another day . Am already debating what sort of birth I want. Well, I really want to be conscious for this birth, but don't want medical intervention and continual monitoring. Might start digging when I see the consultant at hospital tomorrow.

Sickness has pretty much gone now - hurrah! Am back to eating again, although can't eat my normal amount in one sitting. My stomach must have shrunk.

Runningmonkey - am emotional but am hiding it well atm. Wanted to cry at XFactor and other such programmes

flippineck · 27/10/2008 20:42

Gateau - so sorry to hear your news x

Reggiee - DD was undiagnosed breech too, but fortunately she was bum first not feet first, so after ambulance transfer from the mlu to the hospital they let me carry on labouring. Even though the birth was more medicalised than I had wanted, I feel really happy with how it went. When I met the mw last week, we talked about home births, and they'll do a scan at about 39 weeks to check the position of the baby and if all ok then we can stay at home. If the baby is breech again then they'll let me try labour but in the hospital, but have agreed that it can be a lot more hands off as I've already done it.

I've got my scan tomorrow, still feel pessimistic for some reason, but at least there isn't long to wait now! Most symptoms gone now apart from the constipation, really wish that would go.

pulapula · 27/10/2008 20:46

I will be having another elective c-section so know what to expect.

I agree that the birth experience is a bit of a lottery too although it helps to be prepared (classes, reading etc) and practicing breathing techniques. A friend just took 3 pushes in a birth pool and her first was out (5 mins). I pushed and pushed and nothing happened lol.
