Had my booking today, and although I've been fairly relaxed about the whole pg, we heard a heartbeat and I feel great. There IS something in there after all! Got my scan on Wednesday, and although I'm technically 13 weeks, I suspect it will tell me I'm 12. Mw felt and said 13 weeks but give or take a week and weak abdominal muscles. I'm now off work for a week and am going to order some mat clothes.

Jonesy68 · 24/10/2008 15:39

MsG is this your first DC then? I have an almost 6 yr old DS already. Yes getting past the 8 wks did make me feel relieved and last time it never felt right and I was running quite a lot, too much excercise, lots of stress at work, arguing with DP etc etc. Kind of knew it was going to go wrong, felt all wrong. This time have quit excercise til am in the clear, not getting stressed, all well with DP, feel completely different. A friend of mine had MC at 11 wks but same as you, it had not developed past 8 wks and she said all the symptoms had dropped off so she kind of knew something was wrong. I am still getting feelings of queasiness, sore boobs etc and tummy bump getting bigger all the time. Hope is not just coz I am eating my own bodyweight in chocolate every day! (not really !)

Rubysmom08 · 24/10/2008 15:53

hello ladies...... I saw the bean today and all is well. Confirmed my due date as 27th May, heartbeat was 175 which to me indidcates a girl! I am so happy best £80 i have spent! Feel a lot more relaxed about everything now!

I have started thinking of names and I really love Olive for a girl, my surname is Jones so i think pretty much anything goes with that! My dd1 is called Ruby so I liked Olive but it is quite an older name like Ruby.....

I also like Magnus, Barney and Billy for a boy but I definitely think I am carrying a girl because of when I concieved and when we actually last did the deed!

Does anyone elses dh go completely off sex when you are pregnant? I suffered quite a few miscarriages before conceiving Ruby and we had a n incident of brown blood after the one and only time we had sex so he stayed away from me like I was a leper! This time round I feel a lot ore relaxed about it- just makes me cringe when my dh said he imagined his bits poking the poor bean, bless him I think I need to have a word about size etc!!!!!!!!!

Momino · 24/10/2008 16:04

rubysmom, great news on the scan! How lovely.

i've been off sex ever since finding out i was pregnant. poor dh wanted action yesterday when we were both working from home and both dds at nursery but i can't bear to think of doing it. it's terrible but i get repulsed. i hope that changes, maybe it's hormones.

btw, love the name magnus. need to find girl names now as i'm sure we're having a girl. didn't see the heartbeat rate at the scan and not written in my maternity notes. will be sure to pay attn at 20wk scan.

MatthewAndBumpsMummy · 24/10/2008 16:41

hi everyone, hope all is well. cant believe were on the 3rd thread already i really cant keep up and feel bad coz i know im prob missing important things and not mentioning them so im sorry if im missed things and havent offered my support.

finding it really hard to just survive at the mo, house a mess, child deprived cant cope with feeling like this anymore!

saw midwife today everything ok, should get appoitment through for scan soon hoping its gonna be before we go on holiday so i feel more assured. didnt pass out having blood taken aswell so that was good. midwife already trying to talk me into home birth today and kept telling me how second labour goes really fast and wont have time to have epidural which has just scared me im so crap with pain i know i wont cope without having one!

dont know when ill next feel well enough to get on here, so good luck to everyone having scans around now and i hope no one is feeling as crap as me at the mo

agooboo · 24/10/2008 17:13

Had a definite lift of ms symptoms today!! Woo hoo. Right on time for finishing work for a week. Can't wait to do nothing!!

FiKelly · 24/10/2008 17:16

Glad to know not the only one with a DC who's started waking at night... after being such a good sleeper too. Last night was 2am for an hour then up at 6.30 full of beans (groan). 2 nights of broken sleep really taken their toll on MS and it's back today with avengence. A sheet of white paper has more colour than me today... DS has been a grumpy grot this afternoon as he's tired too. Love him to bits but can't wait for him to go to bed tonight!

Jonesy apparently they did some research in sweden on pregnant mums who ate choc and ones who didn't... who thinks of these things and gets paid for it?! The results were that mums who ate choc while pregnant had babies who smile noticeably more! I ate tons with DS and generally he is a very happy/smiley chap to the point that everyone comments on his nature. Might have nothing to do with it of course not really craving it much this time so i'll have to see if it makes a difference.

rubysmom DH went off sex with our DS (1st pregnancy) saying same things.. I was quite horny too (can be sign of a boy apparently) so that made life interesting. This time he's not put off but i'm not really fussed!

So many due on my birthday (16th may) and I might be in that time too... scan wk on mon will confirm

FiKelly · 24/10/2008 19:21

love the halloween smiley's but i think the hat makes this one look a bit crazy/mad happy h

FiKelly · 24/10/2008 19:23

...

SpangleMaker · 24/10/2008 20:06

DandyLioness here is the thread with all the 'having a boy' stories.

Rubysmom congrats on your scan

It seemed from what the sonographer said at my nuchal scan the heart rate varies with the age of the fetus, don't know if this is true, would be interesting to know. May google later.

Better go & have dinner, hope everyone is enjoying their Friday evening

pulapula · 24/10/2008 20:17

I might be talking rubbish, but I thought the heartrate was higher when the bean is smaller- like a natural progression - heart rate generally goes down the older you get. Therefore a high rate now might not continue later in the pregnancy.

Also, again, might be talking codswallop but I think the male sperm swimming faster and dying sooner vs slower but longer-lasting female sperm thing will only impact very slightly on the chances of conceiving a boy or girl.

However, I do have more faith in the "if you have multiple DC of the same sex, then chances are you have another one". This is due to some men having dominant male or female sperm. A friend of a friend had 7 boys, then got a new husband and had a girl! My mum is one of 4 girls, and dad one of 4 boys. Maybe people should say what they think they are having based on gut feeling or old wives tales and then see how accurate the predictions were? I have no incling at all at this stage, but my gut instincts (and strangers opinions) were wrong with my last 2 pregnancies!

pulapula · 24/10/2008 20:19

took me so long to write my post that spanglemaker beat me to it re. heartrate but looks like I might have been right lol. Doesn't mean I'm right on the other two though

SpangleMaker · 24/10/2008 20:28

pulapula

I agree on your other two points too, I read somewhere, can't remember where, about studies of the timing-intercourse method (not very scientific ones): one showed there was a small influence, the other none. But I do think it's likely that some men have more dominant male or female sperm. This is mine (and DH's) first, and probably last, so we'll never know!

FiKelly · 24/10/2008 20:52

feeling v queezy again today.. hubby went out just now to buy choc as suddenly got a craving. now he's back laden with wispas i can't face eating one! hoping ms eases tomorrow as dh is away this week end in london at NFL football game at wembley with the boys. ds better sleep better or i'll be a wreck come mon.

pulapula · 24/10/2008 21:28

I meant to say that my DD went through a waking at night thing when she was nearly 3 I think. A nightlight did the trick (think she was more aware of the dark/bad dreams) and although she wanted it every night, when we moved DS in with her we stopped using it and she doesn't complain. Also be wary of the drink thing. We tried that too and I'm sure it led to more wakings. Anything that means you don't have to go in the best solution (so a drink they can find themselves is OK)...

FiKelly · 24/10/2008 21:44

I know what you mean about the drink thing.. luckily ds won't take a drink if he's not thirsty. didn't have to go into him last night but he wasn't half making a racket whining and chatting to his teddy. no crying or screaming for a change. the night light will be permanently on if he's same tonight! good to know that light not needed when 2 in same room.. will be putting next lo in with ds at some stage as don't think we'll get moved anytime soon.

mmmcheese · 25/10/2008 10:07

Hello! can i join in? Im 12 weeks + 2 so starting to feel a bit less crap!Does anyone know where I can get maternity trousers for short people? I like new looks stuff buts its all about a foot too long! Thanks

SpangleMaker · 25/10/2008 11:33

Hi there mmmcheese

I've just bought trousers from Next directory (quite a wide range but several sold out in common sizes ) and JoJo Maman Bebe. I'm 5ft 1 btw. I'm happy with the jeans I got from JJMB but am returning the work trousers from Next. Nothing wrong with them as trousers, but am between 12/14 on my hips/bum so bought a 14 for comfort and they are GIGANTIC!! Otherwise nice though so I'll get another pair in size 12.

SpangleMaker · 25/10/2008 11:38

OMG there is a Due in July 09 thread

Jools1 · 25/10/2008 11:47

Ooh - I shall bear those tips in mind too I'm only 5ft 2, so have real trouble with trousers normally - in fact I gave up shopping at Next a long time ago !

Just recovering from a nightmare delayed 6 hour journey back from Bridgend yesterday and a mega gym session this morning - felt good though

SpangleMaker · 25/10/2008 12:14

Jools were you going to tell your boss? I can't remember hope it went well if you did. I told my line manager and another manager whose team I work with part-time yesterday morning. Both seemed ok about it, well, line manager a bit stressed as he is having lots of (lack of) staffing issues at the moment. However as I'm starting a new project very soon they were going to have to fill in for me anyway, but now it's for 18 months rather than 6!

I'm very impressed by your exercise routine Jools. I am DEFINITELY going to try one of my DVDs today. If I come back later and haven't done it, you can all shout at me

Jools1 · 25/10/2008 12:19

Hiya - yes I was going to tell, but the "chat" with this manager was very rushed as she had to go off to another meeting and she did suggest that we tried out the new role till Christmas to see if it will work out with me working locally and only visiting the team in Wales once a fortnight - I figure if she is happy to review at Christmas, then it doesn't matter if I leave it another 3 weeks before telling her

I am getting more and more desperate to tell people though

CoteDAzur · 25/10/2008 15:45

Hi everyone. I am officially in the "lentil" phase of the pregnancy. When pregnant with DD, there was a few weeks when I cooked nightmarish amounts of lentils (with onion, carrots, tomatoes) and ate that dish morning, noon, and night. Which is exactly what I did today. Yummy!

I think my body needs iron again.

Febes · 25/10/2008 15:51

What's the recipe Cote I have loads of lentils here and don't know what to do with them.

Momino · 25/10/2008 15:51

hi all.
bought a pair of topshop maternity jeans today. wasn't sure which to get so asked the young lass(she must be 18 to my 39)at fitting room if she were buying ONe pair of jeans would they be 'skinny' or 'skinny flares' to which she said the skinny ones so i listened to her. But am i tryin to be too trendy for my age? should i have gone for the safer flares? i haven't taken the tags off the new skinny ones in case i change my mind.

they do look good but the waist is a bit big so have to wear a belt. couldn't go smaller as the next smaller size didn't fit my thighs. i'm so sick of all my jeans falling down at the waist and danger of bum crack showing if i don't wear a long top. suppose i'll grow into them though.

hope everyone is ok and having a good weekend.
