Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congratulations PreggieMum and steppemum - beautiful names you've both chosen.

Dd is off sick from the childminder today, but dp was a star and took her with him to the hospital where he was having some blood tests, so that I could have my customary morning swim. It was bliss. The other good news is that dp has gone into work this afternoon, so he is definitely on the mend.

Saw my midwife who says all is well, and the baby is still in a good position. She's booked me in for a "post-dates" scan and probable membrane sweep on Friday, but said she hopes I won't need the appointment .

Was just trying to have a little nap whilst dd sleeps - but the phone keeps ringing every 3-4 minutes with just a strange beeping on the other end when I pick it up. Not conducive to me getting any kip. Then the doorbell went with someone collecting for charity, so have totally given up on resting. And decided to foil the ridiculous phoning by coming on line.

Norash40 - have been considering this myself! Particularly as I don't want to get induced or indeed lose out on my homebirth (though I have another week before that is an issue). They do say sex is a good one - though with me the size of a small hippo, and dp only just one his feet following his super virus I can't see that as a good option. Can't make myself believe in pineapples and curries as an effective method. Personally I'm just hoping this baby makes up it's own mind to put in an appearance pretty damn soon!

thedame71 · 08/03/2005 15:39

My natural tips and old wives tales! (and I have tried them all.....)

Sex
Nipple stimulation
Clary Sage Oil
Raspberry leaf tea
Reflexology (you can do this yrself - press middle of big toe)
Curry
Glass of red wine
Cuddle a new born baby (meant to release some hormone in your brain!)

At the end of the day though I suppose it will come when its ready.

Pidge, glad yours is in good position, mine is back to back at mo so will be on all fours tonight to see if it will move.

Antenatal this morning I am 1cm dilated - so who knows!

x

norash40 · 08/03/2005 18:16

Hey Dame,

How does it feel when you are dialated?

Pidge · 08/03/2005 18:29

Well ladies - my waters have broken - so expect some action here soon! Ironically I'd just been on the phone to the homebirth team because I'd been leaking rather copiously and was suspicious that it might be my waters and the midwife had been explaining that it might be the forewaters and the rest might go with a pop and a gush. And sure enough, 10 minutes after coming off the phone - pop and gush they did! Dp's first reaction was had I shot off the sofa fast enough to save the cushions (I had).

So fingers crossed contractions start in the next 24 hours before I start getting pressured into an induction or whatever. No sign yet - apart from the occasional very strong Braxton Hicks. If it all goes quiet from me tomorrow you'll know something's up!

norash40 - the midwife I was chatting too also recommended a glass of wine - if only for relaxation purposes! Unfortunately, whilst I'm usually a bit of an old soak, wine just doesn't agree with me in pregnancy. So strictly OJ for me tonight. Good luck with your efforts - at least most of thedame's suggestions are good fun to try!

thedame71 · 08/03/2005 19:02

Norash40, It doesn't feel like anything to be honest. The only indication of dilation I suppose is the labour pains which I have none at the moment.

I went for a fab pamper this afternoon, a massage with some pressure point work and reflexology. The massage table was amazing with a hole for your bump and two holes for your boobs to hang down!!!! I recommend it highly, feel alot more calm about the fact that I'm overdue now!

Good luck Pidge, can't wait for the announcement!

Londonmummy05 · 08/03/2005 19:03

how exciting Pidge, hope all goes well, congrats to all new mummies. I had a check up with my midwife today and she said I was 1cm dilated and that my membranes around babys head are bulging so should hopefully start labour tommorow evening. I have a reflexology session booked for tommorow, my third one- they do help Norash. I also had a membrane sweep today and have been doing yoga and eating pineapples, anything's worth a try I suppose, so excited I hope things start tommorow, I'm as ready as i'll ever be now!

3mummy · 08/03/2005 19:15

Pidge - I'm so excited for you, hope you go right into a good old pain free quickly progressing labour very soon!! . See, looks like baby was just waiting for your DP to be better!

misdee · 08/03/2005 19:22

ooo another graduate soon

ZoeC · 08/03/2005 19:31

Good luck Pidge - hope things get going soon and you get your home birth. And everyone else who's close - very exciting!

Nothing happening here so far but I've got 10 days to go so I'm being patient so far. I'm not very comfortable at times, but I'm in no rush for the sleepless nights so far .

bonym · 08/03/2005 20:18

Pidge - how exciting - keeping fingers crossed for you that all goes according to plan - get that pool filled!! Good luck

Norash - curry worked for me with DD (went into labour less than 2 hours after eating it!) but I was 2 days past my due date - you're not due until the end of the month so hang on in there a bit longer! It's hard though isn't it when you get to this stage? I'll be though if you beat me to it!

oceanmama · 08/03/2005 20:29

Good luck Pidge - hope we hear back from you soon!

And congrats to Preggiemum and Steppemum on their little girls.

Leogaela · 08/03/2005 21:05

OooooooooH Pidge! Fantastic! Good luck!

jambot · 09/03/2005 02:59

Have a felling I won't be long now either. No pain as such - or at least none of what I think labour is supposed to feel like, but feeling a very strong downward pressure in my pelvis that is very uncomfortable and can hardly move around. My breast have also started to leak quite a lot this evening. ??? Who knows. Have a doctors appointment this afternoon, so will see what she says. Unlike most of you, I don't really want my little one to come until after my due date next week for various reasons, but know we haven't got a choice in the matter. What is it with all these girls? All the girls in my ante-natal class have had girls so far, Know we have had a smattering of little boys, but they are hopelessly outnumbered.

bonym · 09/03/2005 09:31

Jambot - let us know what the doc says! Good luck if it has started . Wonder how Pidge is getting on? Are you still with us Pidge?

3mummy · 09/03/2005 12:38

Ooooh, we've all been quiet for a few hours, have you all gone into labour ?

I have both DDs well again and back at pre-school and school, and DH is back at work too. So it seems this is the perfect time for me to get ill - woke up with horrible cold this morning !! So I'm putting all attempts to bring on labour on hold for now! All I want to do is stay in bed and sleep, but have the school run(s) to do and kids to entertain. Feeling soooo sorry for myself, I HATE being ill!

Pidge and Jambot, good luck, hope things really are on the go for you both .

norash40 · 09/03/2005 12:50

Hey guys I think I have been having regular contractions for the past 24hrs. There is not much pain though, only moving around is next to impossible.

Oh well i just hope that iit is labour coz I am thinking of getting them to induce me as the baby is growing very big. Almost four and a half kilos at a scan on Monday. Still 3 weeks to go.

Getting worried now.

norash40 · 09/03/2005 12:50

Hey 3Mummy hope you feel better soon.

3mummy · 09/03/2005 12:56

Thanks Norash40, hope the contractions keep on coming for you! Try to get as much rest as you can at this stage, if it is labour you need lots of conserved energy - mars bars and lucozade . Seriously though, try to eat energy rich foods and drink plenty because you really don't want to dehydrate. All the best to you, will be keeping my fingers (and legs!!) crossed. I bet you're so excited now something's happening ?

Girly · 09/03/2005 13:02

where's pidge? I wonder?

Good luck everyone else. it really worth it in the end!

norash40 · 09/03/2005 13:03

I want to get excited buut I have been feeling this for the last 3 days. I just hope it means something is happening.

Have an appointment with the consultant at the hospital on Friday and my Hubby and I have decided that we are going to ask them to induce me as soon as possible.

bonym · 09/03/2005 13:16

Gosh Norash, that's nearly 10lb! No wonder you want to be induced. Hope that you actually are in labour now so that you can avoid the induction. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

3mummy - sorry you're feeling so rotten - these last couple of weeks are hard enough anyway aren't they? Without having to contend with illness on top of everything else. Hope you feel better soon.

Well - I managed to get into town today to buy a couple of nursing bras - she fitted me into a 34G bra fgs!!! I was hoping to get some of the Elle MacPherson ones as they're so pretty, but they only go up to an E cup. To think I used to be a 36B in my pre-motherhood days (now a dim and distant memory ).

Reckon Pidge must be in labour (or have given birth!) as I'm sure she would have been on here by now otherwise! Will be keeping a keen eye on the Announcements board!

thedame71 · 09/03/2005 13:23

Still here!

Had the 'show' last night and continuing this morning. Does anyone know if this means that labour is imminent or I could still be here in a weeks time? Trying not to be too excited!

3mummy · 09/03/2005 13:28

LOL Bonym re big bras! I can remember not bothering to buy nursing bras before going into hosp to have my first - I really didn't believe my boobs would grow any more than they had and was sure I could manage!! Ha, ha! They blew up the morning after I had my DD, I was stunned to wake up with a couple of zeppelins stuck to my chest. The MW measured me and told me to call DH and send him to m'care to get me some bras - when I told him what size to get his first comment was "sod m'care, can I come and get a photo first?"!! Guess that makes him a boob man?!

3mummy · 09/03/2005 13:32

Thedame71, I reckon a show means it's imminent. Wear big pads and sit on a towel just incase your waters go now too. I only had contractions with DD2 to signal labour - but with DD1 I had a show and then ALL my waters went . Good luck
