Definite vote for underbump jeans- the overbump ones do nothing for you. Topshop (online too) has some good ones. if you are tall, then they have long ones, which is not always the case (big arse + big tum + jeans flapping round ankles = not a good look).

Jools, i think only very skinny beans stay that way in pregnancy. I piled on about 20kg on my first one, and hated it. The fact was I was eating to keep MS/migraines at bay and just because I thought I deserved a treat for being pregnant - that's the killer. You dont actually need much more, especially at this stage - I am trying harder this time, but so darn hungry all the time!

Nuchal scans - I had a free one last time (St Thomas', london). The nuchal measure is considered on its own, but also calculated with your age to get a probability, so age will play a part too.

I've updated the list below as I'm not on it.

FKelly · 12/10/2008 21:21

I too piled on the weight 1st time. I'm not usually that fussed about chocolate.. just time of the month. while pregnant with ds1 I went chocaholic so pounds piled on and on.. a scary huge amount! before ds1 I was 10.5 st about right for me. I didn't manage to lose all the extra weight before going for #2, but wasn't too far off.. had 10 lbs to go. daren't weigh myself now.. if the chocaholic fad doesn't kick in too strong I'll have a fighting chance of doing better

Jools1 · 12/10/2008 21:25

Hmm - alcohol free Cobra free to a good home ! Starts to go down like a nice cold beer but there is a very very sweet aftertaste that I don't like.

Oh well, someone recommended alcohol free Becks - shall try that one next

agooboo · 12/10/2008 21:49

Hello, not posted for a while. I have been really suffering with the ms. And to top it all I have sickness bug which means I'm feeling even more sick (if that was possible). Haven't been able to eat a thing since Friday - but I have just sent DH out for some some lucozade cos I feel very weak. Feeling utterly sorry for myself.
I don't think I can cope with another 4 (possibly more) weeks of sickness, I feel so drained.

FKelly · 12/10/2008 22:12

agooboo..... sending u loads of big squeezy hugs. Hope you feel better v v soon.

detsy · 12/10/2008 22:21

Ginger ale with lots of fresh lime in it and tons of ice, mmm mmm
Oh and PLJ in fizzy water or tonic again with lots of ice.

DP got all my maternity stuff down from the loft today - had forgooten about most of it so was quite exciting! The got all silly and started thinking i was tempting fate for something not good to happen - stupid i know

Cooked a lunch for 5000 today ( well was 8 but felt like 5000) so am feeling very pleased with myself for my catering and wifely duties

Spangle sorry didn't reply to one of your questions and only just remembered. Re LIz Earle - the hot polish is fine - in fact its all fine aside from the energising range which they don't recommend. Sorry for late reply

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 13/10/2008 07:46

Hi Girls,
I have had the worst night of my life and feeling very down and depressed today,
3am I wake up with truly excrutiating cramping pains, I dragged myself out of bed and was all over the place shaking a doubled over, went to the loo and expected the worst to be honest, but nothing "bad" had happen, I then had the mother of all painc attacks, wretching, sweating, crying, thinking I should be calling an ambulance, DP was still asleep! I was laying on the sofa for 30mins and it eased off so went back to bed, 3/4 hour later it started up again so rushed to toilet and (sorry if TMI) had the worst poo of my life, explosive and gross, after that my cramps etc have gone, am I normal? I have NEVER had anything like this before.

Jools1 · 13/10/2008 08:00

Hi Nikkie - how scary that must have been for you

If it helps, I have had IBS in the past and what you describe sounds very familiar. I've also had extremely bad constipation whilst on the Atkins diet (low carb) and had major pains such as you describe.

I know that constipation is a lovely symptom of pregnancy, as your system gets busy doing other things and your digestive system slows down. If you have been constipated, then that will explain what happened.

I'm sure a chat with your GP will help - he or she may be able to advise you on the best constipation remedies to take whilst PG if that is the problem.

HTH and you are feeling a bit better now

SpangleMaker · 13/10/2008 09:00

Nikkie poor you, what a dreadful night you've had! I agree with everything Jools has said - it's almost certainly your digestive system that's been affected by pg hormones, but good to see your GP to set your mind at rest.

detsy no worries thanks for the info. I was sure it would be ok but being pg is making me far more cautious than normal!

Didn't get to go out in the sun yesterday as we went to the Grand Designs exhibition at the NEC. I coped quite well with being on my feet all day but I was utterly cream crakered when I got home.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 13/10/2008 11:42

Hi all not been on an ms is hitting with a vengence I'm trying to be good to myself and eating and drinking as soon as there is a breal ( ha ha ha!!!) but trying really hard not to stop as have been admitted several times with both pre pregnancies and I honestly don't think dh would cope ( hyperemersis was what has been putting him off trying for no 3 more than any of the other stuff we have to deal with!)

Oddly this time it seems to be worse i the evenings to the pooint where i cannot sleep till about midnight then I'm absolutely knackered in the morning! Dh (bless his soul has phoned from work this am to say he hasn't got much on this week so i going to take some leave to help me at home) I find feeding wetabix to dd2 "challenging" and If i leave her for 2 secs then she tips the bowl on her head, for the second morning in a row she has had her hair washed over the sink!

BTW frazzled- pmsl at a dream with bruce forsyth

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 13/10/2008 11:44

as for "fluffies" as dd1 calls them better out than in

Jools1 · 13/10/2008 12:22

Sorry you're not feeling so good Doris

Oh, and welcome SebandElliotsMum - didn't spot your post last night !

I'm just back from my booking in appt - started badly when antenatal reception appeared to be closed and I had to wait 45 mins to be seen I was almost in tears and busting for the loo. The place was deserted and I thought I'd been forgotten !

MW was lovely - I hate medical appts usually but she really made me feel at ease. Loads of paperwork, took loads of blood, explained the timetable of appointments and then I was told that I would get a 12 week scan, so wandered round to that dept to request an appt. So, scan in just under 5 weeks hopefully and next MW appt in 9 weeks !

I'm a bit worried about my BMI now When I saw the GP 2 weeks ago, it was 30, but I've stacked on weight in the last fortnight and BMI is now 33 - if it gets up to 35, I will have to go under consultant care rather than MW, so won't have the option of home birth or birth centre Sooo, now the tiredness and nausea sees to have abated, it looks like I'm upping my exercise regime and reducing my food intake slightly ...

divedaisy · 13/10/2008 12:32

Morning ladies! I am now generally feeling better - thank goodness. I have the occassional wave of nausea, but I hope it has settled. Certain foods turn me so I avoid them. Milky tea - I could've drunk gallons of it pre-preg, but now milky tea is disgusting! As for constipation - I drink loads of 'not from concentrate' fruit juices (especially pink grapefruit - very good for taking away the horrible taste in the mouth) and I haven't suffered from this at all. I highly desire citric fruit a lot - and I love water with lime to drink too. Big down fall is the chewy Sugarland fruity sweets from lidle, or Tescos jelly beans!!

taking a break from assembling shelves in work. we're opening our shop on Sat 25th and still have loads to do. Bikes and boards arriving every day - boxes everywhere! In fact, just looking to find myself on my CCTV monitor - I can't see myself - I'm hidden by boxes!!

All you ladies who have the energy and inclination to get to the gym, 'hips, bums and tums', dance aerobics etc - well done. I need to get up and do something. Any advice? I've been adviced not to swim (prolapsed discs in neck)too late to start jogging - I want something FUN! Have ordered myself a new MTB - perks of having own business! So once that arrives mid Nov I shall be pedaling whereever I can! (that's the plan!!)

Doris - what are fluffies??

alapala · 13/10/2008 12:59

dandyLioness - sadly i wont deliver at st thomas' this time as we have moved to Madrid, the spiritual home of stirrups, episiotomies and enemas... Eeeek. I have avoided seeing a doctor so far, but building up to it!

divedaisy · 13/10/2008 13:11

OHHHH dandy - that sound horrendous! Big OUCH!

cece · 13/10/2008 13:19

I thought nuchal score was calculated by using your age and other factors. It certainly is if you have the bloods one at the same time and they combine all of the results with your age.

I had a high risk last time so I know what I would do again if I got a high risk. (Nothing) Hence there seems no point getting stressed about another high risk result.

FKelly · 13/10/2008 13:49

Nikkie what a horrendous night for you... I'm suffering a bit with constipation too and it's given me some pains like you describe, although not quite as strong. Now drinking extra fruit juice and it seems to be doing the job

My MS has greatly improved over last few days too. With the bands on I actually don't feel sick anymore! Really weird... but kinda sorta miss it. If the MS is over at 10 wks that's a bonus

Nikkiemadisonandbump · 13/10/2008 14:02

Ok so today can only be described as the day from hell,
I tried to ring Midwife but got as far as answerphone, GP couldn't phone til 9.20 so rung delivery suite (?) in hope that someone could put my mind at rest, but apparetnly not, Dr rang me at 9.50! Had to go in and see him straight away, he pressed down on one side of my tum, I yelped like a puppy, he thinks it may be eptopic, he rang Hosp but they can't see me until 10.50 2moz 4 a scan, unless pain gets worse and I need to go a&e route, so now sat here playing the waiting game, not sure if its getting worse or if my mind is playing tricks on me, any advice, im distraught

FKelly · 13/10/2008 14:08

I too had bad period like pains in one side where ovary is... for about a week... although it was around implantation time for me.

Phoned the doctors following but couldn't get app so I phoned hospital too. Midwife on phone said as long as the pains weren't accompanied by heavy fresh bleeding it sounded ok. Could be uterus expanding and moving... or pressing on a scar from my endometriosis.

Eventually had my midwife app 2wks later. I'd still been getting odd bouts of pains in that time. She didn't like sound of it so she made an app for me next day to get scanned. I think they thought ectopic... everything was in right place and still have no answer for the bad pain... My pain was in the rhs... how about you?

Jennster · 13/10/2008 14:16

Just a quick post, I'm decorating dd's bedroom.

DRINKS I'm loving Bottlegreen cordials with sparkling water. The ginger one is lovely. Ovaltine light? If you need a chocolate fix it's got loads of folic acid in it.

JEANS Never found any long enough for me. Isabella Oliver are a bit eeek expensive but might be worth a try. I usually wear 35inch leg. Hate the over bump jeans, BUT they do bridge the gap between ridiculously short maternity tops and your knickers. Why do they think you expand sideways, and put no extra fabric on the length. If you are tall, then NEXT and Mammas and Pappas are rubbish.

MIGRAINES Focal or Retinal migraines are what I've been suffering with. Sister is a GP and has referred patients to consultants who said; drink a couple of pints of water, close your eyes in a COOL dark room, migraine ice type pad on head, and the 4head type menthol stick. Oh and obviously paracetamol. I found that hypoglycaemia triggered them with me too, so a low GI diet.

I'm sure there was something else I wanted to say but can't remember. Just about to eat a delicious fishfinger and tartar sauce sandwich.

CoteDAzur · 13/10/2008 14:56

As you said, where they combine nuchal test with triple blood test and give you a single number, yes, then they take into consideration your age.

But a nuchal test by itself is a mere measurement of the nuchal fold thickness.

If you are not interested in the result, of course there is no point in doing any test, though.
