Thought I'd better start the thread since a) I've never done it before b) I'm not actually in labour right now c) it'll take all the 9 remaining posts on the previous thread to get the link to this one done correctly!

Hello all.

Birth story:

Some waters went on tuesday evening. Went to MAU weds am and was 3 cms and contracting but came home. Back in at 4am on thursday morning (INUDUCTION DAY!) and was contracting every 4-5 mins but had only progressed to 4-5 cms. I could have cried.

Then they decided that as I was due for an ARM later that morning anyway they would do it then.....cue horrendous contractions getting stronger and stronger and in the end every minute for over a minute!!!

From them breaking my waters to delivery was just 3 hours so it was pretty intense and very painful. Managed with my TENs and breathing but I wasnt a happy bunny!

They were very reluctant to let me have a natural third stage but I insisted - very pleased I did as I delivered the placenta all in one piece in just under 14 mins after Toby arrived.

I lost a lot of blood due to a 2nd degree tear and an now very anaemic, and bf is proving a nightmare (AGAIN!) but am trying.

I had to have the CTG monitor on the whole time due to decelerations in babys heart rate at every contraction and the ARM, which was horrid as I coulndt get comfy and she kept telling me to lie on my left side, but I just couldnt it hurt so much like that. Wanted me to deliver on the bed too, but I refused and got on the floor. Was planning to squat to deliver but in the end I knelt on the floor and held onto dh for dear life!!

Toby not feeding well at all....I have such huge nipples and breasts and he is so small..its a real struggle and we gave him top ups last night as he hadnt done a poo in 2 days and was very unhappy. Am expressing and trying to give it to him, but hes not really interested....any tips ladies gratefully received!

Congrats to all the other new mummys xxxxxx

becaroo - great birth story - sorry to hear feeding proving difficult. If it's any consolation I fed dd1 for 2 years and yet still had a horrid time getting dd2 to feed well, without causing me agony. I'm also quite large, latching a tiny baby was very difficult - cue lots of tears over every feed. The first 3 weeks were the worst. The only thing to do is try to feed as often as possible ... and as SM says, avoid top ups if you can .... good luck

foxy - I've said it on the other thread, I'll say it again, your birth story should win an award for drama!

I now have 3 wonderful child free days ahead of me as dd1 is in school, and dd2 will be with her childminder, so lots more swimming, and time to potter about for me. Assuming the baby doesn't appear!

skydancer1 · 29/09/2008 17:19

Starlight, (I'm really sorry to butt in on this most exciting thread! Well done you birthing women!) you sound really knowledgeable about breast-feeding and just wanted to say I wish I'd been a MNer and you'd been around when I had my DS (24 months ago). I just couldn't do it but nor was a helped enough I see in hindsight. Ds had 8 days in the SCBU due to breathing problems and jaundice and first they fed him water or whatever it was through a tube in his nose, then they wanted to be sure he could both feed and breathe simultaneously so gave him bottles. Meanwhile I was desperately trying to express colostrum or milk but only managing tiny amounts ( which I continued to do and offer for the first two months after his birth). I didn't realise that the baby probably only needed tiny amounts at first anyway (one or two nurses undermined me somewhat by saying things like "is that all you got?" when I arrived with my expressed teaspoons-worth or 10 mls -so I quickly relied more on bottles rather than my seemingly useless milk supply as I was terrified of the baby going hungry. BUT the other complication of course was that DS was used to the sucking action on bottles by the time I got him out of SCBU and got madly impatient on the breast. I still find it sad two years on that for various reasons I gave up so quickly on just putting DS to breast and letting him learn - or didn't get better advice/help. I think another factor not helping with breast feeding was my levels of stress and anemia post birth.

I hope if I have another one I will be much more confident but I still wont have any experience! Good luck with breast-feeding all of you.

Fantastic birth stories becaroo and foxytocin - although sorry to hear about your wee girl's leg!

Pitufina · 29/09/2008 20:06

MunkiMom - It would be great to get a whole load of us done in one day!
It's so sweet what you said about your husband. I do sometimes forget about the impact of it all on my DH. Bless him, he's so excited.
becaroo and foxytocin - great birth stories. That was so fast foxytocin! I hope your daughter is alright soon.
Nothing going on here!

Pidge · 29/09/2008 20:31

skydancer1 - it's so infuriating that women don't get more help with this just when they need it most.

Pitufina - if you're planning a group birthing can you strike me off the list ... dp is downstairs having a go at our builder, for now having failed to turn up today on top of all of last week. And he's relying on me to keep bump in bump mode to give them a chance to redeem themselves with some speedy wall building and kitchen finishing!

Is anyone else getting really painful braxton hicks? Mine now feel like the early contractions did, which makes me jumpy! Though fortunately they are completely irregular, and with very long gaps between, phew!

MissusH · 29/09/2008 20:31

munkimom I have to be at the hospital for 7am !!!

I will have an internal to see if I have started to dilate - if they can break my waters they will send me to delivery suite straight away. If not then I have the first dose of Prostin gel to get my cervix dilating follwed by another dose early afternoon if needed...

Oh joy - am taking plenty of magazines, snacks and stuff just in case (could be a looong day!!)

MunkiMom · 29/09/2008 21:16

missus good luck with your induction tomorrow. and if all goes well, you could have your wee one by the end of the day!

earlier today while ds was having his nap, i thought i would lay down for what would normally have been the final 20-30 mins of his nap. i must've really needed that cos i woke up TWO hours later! PLUS ds was still asleep!

i have a sneaky suspicion that my body is trying to fight off a flu...i woke up feeling like i could sleep hours longer, plus body achy/shaky & a bit nauseous, and one side of my throat/neck is swollen and sore. this is the last thing we need seeing as i am booked on thursday morning. blech!

on another note, as i was typing this post i received a bit of last minute info...
i dont have family in this country and dh's family are a ways away and his siblings all have kids of their own to mind. i had arranged for my friend from Mums & tots to have fynn during the day while dh & i are in theatre this thursday...but she's just informed me that her DP is working nights this week...which means, he'll be sleeping during the day and i don't think having another tot running around her house will help his need for sleep....

i'm gonna cry.
Or have a break down.

will be back in just a mo after my friend signs off msn...and i start sorting out a very last minute back up plan.

plusonemore · 29/09/2008 21:37

yes good luck tomorrow missus let us know as soon as yuou can!

munki you poor thing- i will have him for you! (ha ha) Seriously hope you get it sorted out, sure it'll be fine in the end I have a sneaky suspicion that your 'flu' symptoms are really signs of impending labour anyway...

MunkiMom · 29/09/2008 22:35

aawww, thanks plus1. hehhe

ok...

i thought before i panic, i'll phone my mate and see whats going on...and do my best to NOT cry on the phone with her...

however, she said, her DP is on nights BUT its not an issue for thursday itself because her dp will be coming off nights and only sleep for an hour or so. so having ds there along with her dd (both tots) wont be a problem.
okay munki...now breathe out! all is ok...

i nearly went into hyperventilation there for a moment.

now that i'm chilled, i'm in desperate need for a couple rennies, chased by a hefty dose of calpol and a big pillow. Must fight off whatever illness is creeping Asap!

you all have a lovely night. and perhaps we'll hear from treadmill tomorrow!?!

also, missus i think i got the day for your induction wrong...but remind me, 7am wednesday morning, right?

nite all!!

good morning
happy due date sagecat
its our last day to try for September babies! Anyone think it will be them? I had some not nice constant pains this morn (but they went after a trip to the toilet) Now feel same as ever, about 30wks pregnant! Going to see MW today, wonder if she will give me a sweep?

Pidge · 30/09/2008 09:53

Happy due date sagecat - welcome to the select crew of zeroes and negative numbers!

Definitely no baby action for me thank you very much. A builder actually showed up this morning, and I could have kissed him. He's Polish, and speaks virtually no English, so I'm not sure what he's doing, but I THINK he may be fixing the gaping hole in our kitchen wall. Which will finally help keep the house warm. I can live without the rest of the kitchen stuff, but I was a bit worried about having a baby in a chilly house.

I'm child free and already contemplating my morning swim a bit later ...

Treadmillmom - I bet you've had your baby by now! Can't wait to hear the news.

Pitufina · 30/09/2008 10:20

Pidge - I'm so glad that you're getting the hole in the kitchen sorted out. Once that's done, shall we all try and have these babies out all at the same time?!
Happy due date sagecat!!
I wonder how treadmillmom is doing?! I hope she's had her baby. It's been days since we had a birth! Come on girls!! One of us has to make it in september.

Pidge · 30/09/2008 10:33

Pitufina - thanks - I am going down now to sneak a look at what he's up to. Last night I had to wear 3 fleeces to keep warm!

Pitufina · 30/09/2008 10:38

Poor you!! Three fleeces?!?!
Hope it's good news when you pop down to see.

MunkiMom · 30/09/2008 10:49

I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the alphabet, here, gals!

heheh
i think treadmill may be the only one to make it in september. ((unless flumpy has burst?!?)) havent heard from her for a few days yet. Oooo now that i think about it, its been a couple days since hearing from sagecat, i think...

plus1 if your MW doesnt offer, will you ask about having one anyways? ((sweep))

pidge i certainly hope for your freezing-sake, the hole gets sorted today!! good luck with that!

pitufina anything??? at all??? a niggle in sight?

Pitufina · 30/09/2008 10:51

Munkimom - I think sagecat posted yesterday morning. Though things might be happening now!!
Last night I had a couple of quite painful BH but then they stopped. It may have had to do with needing the toilet though!
How are you doing?

jennylindinha · 30/09/2008 10:54

Morning everyone, hope you're all ready to pop soon. Pidge - 3 fleeces?!!! We had the bedroom window open last night 'cos we were too warm! I hope they fix that hole today...

Had a lovely day yesterday, went for lunch with the other remaining NCT class girl who is also overdue and was going stir-crazy at home, then a trip to a local museum with my sister and her two little girls. So cute, but knackering! The weather was great. Today is horrible and I don't feel like going anywhere. Have MW later today but have got to go to the hospital 'cos my GP's MW is on a hypnobirthing course! I hate hanging round the hosp.

MunkiMom · 30/09/2008 10:55

ok, i correct myself:
sagecat was posting regularly yesterday ((perhaps i was having another blonde moment)).

However, Flumpy last posted the following , last saturday: "After the membrane sweep on Tuesday and numerous shows since (sorry TMI).. still nothing, not even a twinge!

I do feel like baby is lying really heavy on my pelvis but I am definately not feeling any potential contractions or beginnings of labour. I feel like I've been pregnant forever! grin

I suppose it's going to be the induction tomorrow as planned, unfortunately.. . This little one clearly doesn't want to budge of its own accord"

hmmmmMmm!

plusonemore · 30/09/2008 10:58

i'm definately going to ask her if she will have a look to see if its favourable and if it looks like anything is happening! Its so quiet, feels like we havent had a baby for aaaaages, not even in the due oct lot! keep dipping into bounty to get a birth story fix! (but dont really want to talk to them)My dh thinks i spend too much time on here, dont think he realises how much BABY takes over your mind- I'm lucky I still remember to eat and go to the toilet!

MunkiMom · 30/09/2008 11:05

jenny sounds like a very nice day out! ((and exhausting, especially at this stage of our prgnancies)

pitufina i'm still very much here. i take all niggles with a grain of salt now. i know nothing is going to happen on it's own so i'm going to face the music and start repacking my hosp bag for a short stay after thursdays c/s. i'm a little nervous, but i know it will pass.

tomorrow morning: pre-op. ((i'm sure my nerves will be on fire then!))

i guess it has a slight bit of excitement to it, i mean the thought of having to repack, regardless of delivery method. one way for me to look at it is baby will DEFINITELY be here friday!

MunkiMom · 30/09/2008 11:08

plus1 i reckon my dh is relieved that i spend soo much time on MN!! Because if i didn't he would have ti sit and lsten to everything i wanna say or experience about being pregnant etc! hehehehe and although he's excited to have a new family unit, really he doesn't wanna only about an outfit i wanna buy for baby or how many times i had to use the loo,e tc. hahah
