Thought I'd better start the thread since a) I've never done it before b) I'm not actually in labour right now c) it'll take all the 9 remaining posts on the previous thread to get the link to this one done correctly!

OP posts:

plusonemore · 30/09/2008 12:02

i'm so naughty just had a macdonalds for lunch! but it was just what i fancied!!

no babies yet?

jennylindinha · 30/09/2008 12:26

Oh bad girl plusone!

It's that kind of a day though. What stodge can I cook up for dinner I wonder, something involving potatoes for sure.

Pidge · 30/09/2008 13:23

Maybe I was being feeble with my 3 fleeces, but it wasn't just me, as even dp had 2 on! It's not clear what the builder is up to - and he speaks NO English at all. My questions are just met with nodding and grins. Anyway, last I checked he was out in the rain hammering at our wall. Not the one with the hole in it, but still, I'm hopeful he may be able to fix the hole either today or tomorrow. I'm in danger of becoming a bore on the subject. I've been remaining quite calm, but poor dp was awake for 2 hours last night, worrying about having a baby in such a chilly house and wondering how to chivvy the builders further.

I fitted in my swim this morning, and rather startled a fellow swimmer who enquired when I was due (3 days ago!!). I think she had visions of a rather unconventional water birth!

It's definitely a day for carbs isn't it. I had loads of bread and cheese for lunch, then some of my homemade apple, cinnamon raisin flapjack, and then some chocolate. . And now I'm contemplating baking a choco-topped flapjacky thing recommended by a friend. Anyone would swear I was carbo loading for a marathon or something ....

JennyL - you weren't at the Horniman by any chance were you? If not, I recommend it for your next visit by the nieces.

jennylindinha · 30/09/2008 13:33

Pidge stop your baking now, I am feeling most inadequate! I bought the ingredients but have yet to bake. Mind you, today is the perfect day to do it...

I WAS at the Horniman yesterday and it was lovely! Haven't been there for ages and we spent some time in the aquarium then the music room (bit loud in there!) Then went and fed leaves to the goats and grass to the bunnies. They don't have any grass in their enclosure, no wonder loads of them escaped to the main bit, they were lying with the geese sunbathing! DN aged 3 was VERY excited by the goat eating out of her hand, DN aged 20mths was just trying to feed her hand to the goats... (By the way, the coffee cake in the cafe was very good too!)

jennylindinha · 30/09/2008 13:34

ps. good luck with the builder/hole. I hope he's not trying to hammer a new hole in a different wall!

Pidge · 30/09/2008 13:41

Aha, I THOUGHT it might have been the Horniman. I'm up there on Friday with dd2 and a gang of her friends, assuming there's no baby action! We should do coffee and cake up there when we finally pop.

Have just spoken to dp and am now under instructions to go and do sign language or whatever it takes to point builder at the big hole! Imagine comedy scene with very bulging pregnant lady gesticulating wildly at hole in wall, whilst polish builder grins politely ...

There's no stopping my baking either - I just like eating too much. Especially cake!

jennylindinha · 30/09/2008 13:53

Mmmmm, cake... Just got the recipe book out so think I'll give it a go after I've seen the MW. Definitely up for a coffee/cake session at the Horniman when we have our babies! There may be some other Sept mums in the area too.

I hope that you get the message across to the builder!

Hi all, still here with bump fully intact and showing no interest in becoming the next to pop! I, on the other hand, would love to pop

Feeling fairly low today - I can barely move now, legs just no longer work and pelvic muscles shot to pieces, all i want to do is lie in a heap on the sofa and watch crap TV and eat jam doughnuts - i'd love to be able to walk like a normal human again

Ok, enough of feeling sorry for myself - going to have a nap, then health dinner then make DH put stuff in and out of loft (probably time to dig Moses basket out of loft too!). Have a good day everyone.

skydancer1 · 30/09/2008 14:53

Pidge - the Horniman takes me back. I lived in Forest Hill when I gave birth to Ds, and could hardly walk up that hill three weeks before and three weeks after the birth. Lovely place. It is crazy how midwives/HVs etc do not help with breast feeding. The irony is all those posters everywhere around maternity units encouraging breast -feeding. When it comes to it health professionals don't seem to care.

Pidge · 30/09/2008 15:08

sagecat - lots of sympathy - and fingers crossed it's not much longer for you. I just battled out to the shops and realised how hard it is carrying shopping home on foot, when also wielding a bump. And I'm generally lucky and very mobile, but I could have done with one of those granny shopping trolleys!

Aaaah the Horniman. What a splendid place! I would be alright walking up the hill before the birth probably, but by my past experience I'll be completely physically shot to pieces for 2-3 weeks afterwards! So I'm making the most of being up and about.

Downstairs the builder has the cement mixer going and is wielding a trowel, he nodded when I asked if he was going to mend our hole in wall. So that's promising!!!

School run looms, so off I go for another chorus of "surely you're not still pregnant"!

Pidge · 30/09/2008 15:56

Just checked our kitchen - the hole in the wall now has BRICKS in it!!! There's still a slight gap round the french doors, but we're talking a few millimetres, rather than a gaping void. And Mr Builder is still out there with his cement mixer. So there might yet be more progress.

I'm so excited. Almost feel psychologically ready for my waters to break.

Only kidding ... still planning to hang in there for a few more days pregnancy!

plusonemore · 30/09/2008 15:57

sooo...MW wants me to go to day assessment unit as i said i had been feeling the baby a lot less. thought she would just say its normal for this kind of time but no. I do feel baby but perhaps only in about 4 or 5 bursts at the most in a day, maybe as little as 3 bursts. Is that a lot les than anyone else? My ds stopped moving at 41 wks and was in distress, they broke my waters then.

Pidge · 30/09/2008 16:00

plusonemore - it's worth getting checked out because it will put your mind at rest, especially given what happened with your ds. If it makes you feel calmer, I'm sure my baby wriggles less than a few weeks ago (probably less space). When are they going to get you to go for assessment?

plusonemore · 30/09/2008 16:08

got appointment at 7pm. Thanks Pidge its just so hard to know isnt it? I reckon today I felt it this morning but then nothing until about a second ago it gave me a kick. It seems to do this, wait til i'm just stasting to get worried and then do a boot! Thats not much movement for a day though is it?

MunkiMom · 30/09/2008 16:31

plus1 i hope the appt goes well and just think, it could result in having your wee one being safely in your arms later tonight or tomorrow. And if it doesn't happen that way, its like pidge has said: it will put you at ease!

pidge!! finally!! hole in wall is turning into something more like ...err..a wall!! woohoO!

i'm been feeling a bit more discomfort this afternoon...and i'm not sure if its all having to do with this suspected "illness" coming on, but i'm feeling incredibly nauseous!! like early pregnancy nausea all over again. my hands and wrists are aching and tingling like crazy as well.

this isnt a good time to stop and rest cos i have soooo many things to do before tomorrow night:
gotta pack ds for thursday babysitter, repack hosp bag, go over a few things with dh (so he doesnt panic while im in hosp), make a cd for theatre (if they let me play it at this hosp), go to the shops for a few last minute things, pre-op tomorrow....oh gaw....

now i really feel like im gonna throw up...

((ignore me, im doing nothing but thinking aloud and probably just winding myself up, emotionally))

::k now exxxhhhaaaallllleeee::::;

jennylindinha · 30/09/2008 16:53

Grrr and double grrr... Just been for a mw check up and had to go to the hospital as my usual mw at myGPs is on a course today.

They bloody well get out a tape measure and say I'm measuring 35cm and the baby is small so now I've got to go in tomorrow for my post due date apt and a scan... Wasn't going to have that til next week and they might start going on about induction etc. Not what I want at all. This baby is fine, moving loads and yes I have managed to grow a very compact bump (much to my sister's envy) but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it!

MW even said it was probably just the way the baby is lying (head down, bum to the right and feet to the left so when I lie back there's hardly a bump there 'cos they measure top to bottom).

Munki, maybe the sickness is a sign that things are starting..?! I do hope so. Come on babies - you don't want to enter the world with all that horrible intervention do you?

MunkiMom · 30/09/2008 18:01

to be honest, jen, i'm nervous for it to happen with either method of delivery .
but of course, i'd ultimately prefer to have the experience of waters breaking, labor, etc.

but the placenta isnt very favourable...and i'm vbac, not far away from 42 weeks.

i still have tonight and tomorrow to get things kicking though!!! i'm hopeful!

hehehe

MissusH · 30/09/2008 18:18

Hi All,

Well all quiet here. DD has been packed off to Grandmas. It is a weird feeling knowing that the next time I see her we will be a family of 4!!

Have been keeping busy today so I don't dwell too much on tomorrow. I even asked DH to help me sort my bikini line out (bless him, he agreed!!)as I cannot see or reach it myself. So he spent what seemed like an eternity down there armed with scissors & razor . I have visions of some ornately trimmed design which will result in the mws having a right old laugh at my expense!!

Had a PTA meeting this afternoon, so have typed up the minutes for that and sent them off to everyone and now have the house to myself (DH is at work until 9pm).

I think I am going to make myself a cheese sarnie then eat chocolate trifle - mmmmm. Although to redeem myself I had a massive salad at lunchtime

Am feeling a bit apprehensive about the morning - not the birth bit (not fazed about that at all) but how long it will take. Will just have to remember my hypnotherapy breathing!

Good luck for the pre-op tomorrow munkimom

I'll let you know asap when babe arrives (or get MisterH to do it for me )

foxytocin · 30/09/2008 18:26

Hi jenny, at 40+4 wks i was measuring 37 and produced 8lbs 6 oz. compact bump.

i think it will be fine.

MelT76 · 30/09/2008 19:16

Birth Story.

Birth plan... water birth with g&a maybe get out and have pethadine if in too much pain. Don't do hospitals so no needles, knives or scissors!! I know this might sound unrealistic, but couldn't imagine having to go thru that.

Anyway, went to bed on Tues after sweep and pains all day. Woken up at midnight with really bad cramps. Took paracetamol and got in the bath but it didn't help. Had contraction master on laptop and contractions were about a minute long and 3-4 mins apart. Rang hospital, had 2 contraction while on phone, and they said to come in. Got there at 2.30, birth pool in use. Checked at 3am and was 7cm! Well impressed with myself.

All ready to push at 6.10 but despite trying still nothing doing by 8.10 so midwife said I needed checking by a doc. Turns out baby was back to back and wrong part of head presenting so they could try to turn him but prob wouldn't work so suggested straight to c section! My plan was NOT happening here.

Anyway, Callum was delivered by c section at 10.07 and despite all my fears of knives, needles etc wasn't that bad an experience overall. And the end result is the same. One healthy happy baby and mum & dad.

Callum breast feeding well only lost 1.5 oz since birth so am happy about that, although not happy at being up half the night feeding.

Sending best wishes and happy birthing vibes to all those left.

jennylindinha · 30/09/2008 20:09

Thanks Foxy, I'm not really worried but just a bit annoyed that I'm back "in the system" as I don't want anything messing up my homebirth! I'm sure it'll be ok, at least we get to see baby again on the small screen...

It has not kept still since the appointment so that's a good sign.

Good luck tomorrow MissusH, hope it all goes well...

Well done MelT76, sounds like you didn't really have much option in the end and at least you have your lovely baby with you now!

Debs75 · 30/09/2008 20:23

Foxytocin How brave of you doing it alone, your birth story was dramatic and heartwarming, no hospital and a lovely baby at the end. Sorry to hear about your dd's leg, hope she feels better soon.

plusonemore · 30/09/2008 21:15

Congrats MelT! A lovely story and glad all is going well.

Back from hospital for monitoring. Baby all fine, she offered me a sweep which community midwife wouldnt do til monday at 41 weeks. So i took it! Was a little uncomfortable not nothing terrible. She said it wasnt really favourable, but OK and that with 2nd babies it didnt need to be particularly favourable. Cervix thin at the top but then thicker towards the back. 1cm dilated. Who knows? Maybe it'll work for me like Mel!! Fingers crossed xxx

Hope Missus and munki have great days tomorrow and Thursday, cant wait to hear the news

Pidge · 30/09/2008 21:35

MelT76 - babies have a habit of throwing the best laid plans. Many many congratulations - enjoy getting to know the little one.

JennyL - all fingers crossed they let you out again! Bump measurement is notoriously inexact (as indeed is weight estimating from scans). I have one friend who was referred because her baby was "too small", another who had people fretting that the baby was "too big" and both their babies ended up just a few oz different in birthweight.
