Just a quickie! Baby Theodore arrived in Wednesday night, weighing a slightly hefty 9lb 8oz. will write more details later, but the short version is: quick labour (under 12 hours, 15 min second stage), all on gas and air, monstrous blood loss, cervical and 3rd degree tear, but recovering slowly after a couple of nighs in hospital. Teddy is feeding beautifully, barely any discomfort there.

MummyToOneForNow · 20/09/2008 15:18

Congratulations lollipop and hopefully - hopefully joining you on the postnatal threads next week. I had two sweeps last week but, although both midwives said things look favourable (and the second thought I was partly dilated), there are no signs of labour. Being induced next week unless I get bumped because the hospital is too busy(have heard of them doing this a few times).

mamamufin · 20/09/2008 16:07

Congratulations lollipop and hopefully. Enjoy your special time with your babies

No signs this end at all, but at least its siven me more time to recover from my cold.

carrieon I am getting worried the other mothers wont want me on there post natal ward with my cough. However, if we can arrange to be in together we can cough together in sync it .

Good luck guys its a curry night xx

mamamufin · 20/09/2008 16:13

Oh yes and Ive noticed a few of you have the midwife visit them at home for checks and sweeps etc. I live in a rural village in North Yorks and have to drive or get the bus to the doctors surgery for my appointments which is a bit of a pain. Anyone know why its so different? I am finding it harder to drive and walk far now so shouldnt they come to me?

Pidge · 20/09/2008 17:04

lollipopmother - huge congratulations. I know how you feel about the epidural, I was extremely grateful for one first time round after my 48 hours of contractions every 10 minutes and then 8 hours of ctxns every 2-3 minutes and only 4-5cm dilation! It was magic. And I say that having done a homebirth 2nd time round and hoping for the same again. You have to go with what circumstances are thrown at you.

hopefully - hooray, hooray, a baby for you after such a patient wait. Lovely name, and brilliant news on the feeding front. You're owed a smooth ride there after a tough labour.

mamamufin - I only get home visits because I'm with a homebirth team. I feel slightly embarrassed by it actually because I'm so lucky at this stage to be very fit and healthy - out walking lots and chasing my two kids and going swimming etc. But with the homebirth team it's just what they do after 36 weeks. I suppose the last visit was actually to deliver the pack needed for the birth, which makes sense.

Congrats Lollipop and Hopefully.

Mamamufin - I think the only reason I'm getting home visits is the high bp at the mo that needs checking, and the fact that my MW only does 2 half days at the surgery, she cant fit me in otherwise

Carrion - I am drowning my bedding at night with Olbas Oil. Its magic!!

MunkiMom · 20/09/2008 17:37

Aww! Congrats to lolli & hopefully!!!

it must feel so nice to no longer be pregnant! for a moment there, i thought you were both
going to be here til xmas!

lolli well done on the endurance! i should be so lucky. ((well, really, i won't have that experience as they
won't "allow" it, being vbac.)) so i can admire from afar, all the gals with the
labour stories.

So far, my celebratory EDD has been ..err..ok. very uneventful in the baby dept. just got back from mothercare (ok ok, so i was secretly hoping the surrounding of mums/babies/clothes/supplies would make my waters go). but no such luck. just waddled out empty handed. very small store, limited stock...was only on the hunt for a cotbed duvet & cover set. so ended up waddling further down the high street, which i wanted to avoid like the plague...and just went in the first place i could find and bought a single bed size instead.

we're having dh's 4 sisters, all their kids, and his dad around tomorrow for a bite to eat and cake or sweet pie of some sort. a very low-key 2nd Bday do for the ds. i'm just looking around the house and thinking to myself: tidying this place is NOT what i had in mind for today.

but no worries! after reading the birth stories and announcements, i feel so much happier. thanks gals.
((still awaiting one in particular! hoping it went well!!))

also, not sure if i've already done this, but just in case...
happy due date to the others: imoscarsmum & izzy!
hope its going well!

righty, i'm off to make Banana Split Cake (really a pie)....

I was just curious about the home visits really. I suppose I should be grateful I can get to the appointments myself and as much of an effort it is it does get me out.
Have a good party tomorrow munki I think you are really brave.
I think I am going to try without any VE to begin with. My hypnotist has advised me to "listen to my bodys own natural wisdom" . However, i might change my mind if the wisdom doesnt shine thru. You must be loaded with it star. I think you would make a fab doula btw.

Lollipop congratulations - it's good to hear you so positive at the end of long labour.

Hopefully Congratulatiosn too

It's so good to finally hear the stories that we've all been looking out for!

splishsplosh · 20/09/2008 21:02

Hooray for Lolli and *Hopefully at last, congratulations

Everyone seems to being offered sweeps etc - does that happen automatically, or are people asking for them? My next mw appointment isn't til Friday, 2 days before edd, and the consultant told me to make an appointment to see him when I'll be 41+3 (or hopefully baby'll be a week old!) so they don't seem to be in any hurry to help the arrival along.

I wish I got home visits from the mw (though they'd be shocked at the state of the place no doubt!) - I have about a 3hour round trip to see mine

Starlight - I'm more curious to see if it's some standard thing offered - I don't really have any desire for any fiddling around up there. I'm sure the baby will come in it's own good time. I have a weird feeling like b-day is still in the dim and misty future, it doesn't feel at all imminent, but then maybe that's cos I'm so ill prepared still.....

splish
i was offered a sweep, sort of on the casual word, at my 39 week appt, last thursday. and i , too, declined since i'm getting the internal this wednesday...IF i don't pop by then. and i feel alright about the choice...for now.

nellyonthetelly · 21/09/2008 00:21

Belated birth announcement! Just to let you know, after an elective CS - I had a baby girl on Thursday 18th September - she was 7lb 6oz, smaller than my first, and very pretty with lots of very dark hair - after much deliberation we only decided what to call her on Friday - shes Romilly May, we got out of hospital today, hope to post a proper birth story soon, but is my DD second birthday today so bit busy! Congrats to all the recent Mummys and Good Luck to those yet to pop!

Wow babies galore Well done and congratulations to lollipopmother, hopefully, Nelly and Izzy. 10lb10oz, thats the record so far isn't it?

Well DD spent the first night in her new bed slept right through no problems at all . Neighbours dogs however barked all evening then constantly (and i mean CONSTANTLY ) until 1.20 am. I'm sending DH next door to complain this morning.
