Morning! Just had a few hours alone, my DS started in nursery this morning! So strange to see him in his little uniform! I hope he's having a good time.
Had a horrible night last night. I think DS was a bit excited about this morning so decided that a very long chat at midnight was needed! Took an hour to get him to stop and get back to sleep. Lots of screaming and tears going on!!

Pidge · 02/09/2008 11:40

Morning all - have now more or less caught up on the last 30 odd pages!!! Potxola - hope you are doing ok with Lorea and getting well cared for. Congrats to digitalgirl and DebitheScot.

Are any of you late September ladies still at work like me? I'm not remotely in baby mode yet. Still have 2 more weeks in the office before I put my feet up. Anyway, things are looking hopeful that our building site of a home, may be clear enough to manage a home birth provided the baby stays put another 3 weeks or so. Should be ok.

Pidge · 02/09/2008 11:40

Pitufina - aw, bless your little DS, fingers crossed for him and you, it's such a big step isn't it.

hopefully · 02/09/2008 11:51

Ipanemagirl my brother doesn't have any kids, so competitiveness not a problem, but I think perhaps he and his wife might have found it difficult as they decided not to have children following a v nasty miscarriage.

Pidge poor you still working! You've got a bit longer till your due date than me, but I still don't envy you. I was thinking yesterday that Digitalgirl had all of about a day's maternity leave before she gave birth!

I was thinking, don't know if those who have dropped have started a post natal thread, but there are so many of us still to drop that it must be quite dull on here for those that have done so - perhaps someone might want to start a post natal one, and when there's only a few left to drop they can ship themselves over there too? Or maybe the post natals will start posting more once they have got over the initial shock of having a baby and more people have newborns to compare stories about!

Pitufina · 02/09/2008 12:42

pidge - Thank you! Just got back from picking him up. He seemed to have had a great time. Teacher said he was fine the whole time. Came home with a decorated gingerbread man! (very pleased and couldn't wait to eat it!)

lollipopmother · 02/09/2008 12:49

I've just had what I hope is my last mw appt - I'm 39+5 today but we've booked for next tues just in case I need a sweep.

I am now 1/5th palpable - am I right in thinking that I won't be 0/5th until I'm actually giving birth?

I had a good surprise when at the mw, a new midwife-led care unit opened at my hospital yesterday, and I've been offered a place in there (providing I don't have to be induced), which is great because they don't have anything there that I don't want - on my birthplan I said birthing pool, G&A, TENS and meptid if totally necissary, and that's all that they provide. The plus side is that where most MW-led units are not attached to a hospital, this one is, so if I need a c-sec etc they will just wheel me downstairs, which is far less hairy than having to get transferred by ambulance.

Anyway, I found that the thought of the mw-unit made me go shopping for another pineapple , so i've got one and I am damn well going to eat it!

Starlight - I had my pineapple on an empty stomach too, I've just got another one but I've already eaten three Sainsbury's cookies! I think I'll have to wait a bit - how long does it take to get an empty stomach I wonder?

jearund · 02/09/2008 13:20

We're back from nursery with a very tired DD who is now struggling to get to sleep. She had a good morning but unfortunately DH (who wasn't really awake having just come off a night shift) forgot to tell them she hadn't had breakfast so the first food she got was some toast at 9:30! She'd been up since 6:45. How guilty do I feel?!

jennylindinha · 02/09/2008 13:30

Hello all! Not had a chance to log in for a few days and blimey, I can't keep up!

Congrats to Digital, Potxola, Jenpet and DebitheScot (and anyone else I've forgotten!) on the new arrivals. I hope Lorea is back home soon. Good luck to everyone else, particularly those with fevers/leakage and the like...

I am still at work but Thursday is my last day! so I can't wait. Still got some crap important stuff to finish, but it will be over soon.

Pidge I had to get the bus today, could not face getting on the bike at all although I've managed it most days. I'm actually going to have to take the car in tomorrow as I've cleared out my office and 8 years worth of junk/clothes/shoes/swimming kit etc is now sitting in bags and boxes ready to go! Can't believe how much stuff I accumulate wherever I go.

Had my NCT classes over the last two weekends and they were great! Met some lovely couples, none of whom had heard of mumsnet (!) so I told them all about it. We have our first meet up tomorrow evening.

Good news - a midwife turned up with the homebirth kit on Saturday! It makes it all feel real and I am both excited and petrified at the same time Haven't dared look in the box though, my sister warned me not to after she pulled out a pair of scary-looking scissors from hers and then realised what they were for...!

And the other good news is that DP has finally finished the kitchen!!! Only took 4 months (yikes) and we still have the floor to do but thank goodness it's in at last. Sorry to those who still have builders in.

Still haven't packed an emergency hospital bag yet - is this bad???

lollipopmother · 02/09/2008 14:20

Arrrgh I forgot to get the bloody clary-sage! Can't believe I managed to talk myself into buying another frickin pineapple and then forgot the stuff that I don't actually have to eat!

Pidge · 02/09/2008 14:23

jennyL - hooray for the end of work and the homebirth kit! I also failed to cycle today - the bike was all ready to go, but then it was pouring with rain at 7am and dp said "you're mad" and I said "you're right" so I trudged to the train. It's nearly as bad though - one and a half hours commute. But only 5 more days after this one for me (including one at home hopefully).

I don't have a hospital bag packed either - not sure if I'll bother. If I transfer it'll be an emergency and I won't care what I've got with me or not, and anything I need after the baby arrives dp will have to handle. Or if all was ok, I'd just come straight home. My friend who had homebirths for her first two, but ended up in hospital for her 3rd was home 2 hours after the birth!

Still don't have any baby clothes or nappies out of the loft either due to ongoing building saga. But I'm convinced I've got at least a month before there's any baby action here.

DebitheScot · 02/09/2008 14:45

Hi there, just a quick update as I don't think I can sit on this chair for too long!

Thanks for all the congrats from everyone. Andrew and I came home yesterday after a very successful labour and birth.
Went to bed Sunday night after I'd been on here but didn't sleep at all, was still leaking a bit and thought something was going to happen. Started getting twinges about 1am and got up at about 2am as I knew I wasn't going to sleep and thought it'd be good to see a clock so i could measure the timings. Contractions about every 12 mins at this point, not sore at all. The at 2am ds coincidently woke up (think he was having a nightmare) just as I was wondering about if I should wake him and dh up, so we decided as he was awake anyway and I was fairly sure this wasn't going to stop that he might as well go to his childminders then. So dh took him, he was fine, seemed to understand what was happening, went to her fine and went straight back to sleep at her house.
I phoned the hosp just before 3 when contractions were 6-8 mins apart and they said to come in as I was worried about previous fast labour and they weren't busy so I was fine to go in.
When I got there they checked heartbeat and my bp and I had a lovely midwife who said she's only examine me if I wanted so I didn't bother. Contractions stayed at every 5 mins for what seemed like forever but wasn't long really, they were getting stronger but no closer together. At 7am I was examined and was 8-9cm dilated so was happy with that. Then contractions starting getting closer and more like I wanted to push.
Started pushing at about 7.40 but with big gaps between each contraction. Then my waters broke all over the floor (I was standing up up until this point), I had a second of panic that it was the baby coming out there was so much pressure, i got up onto the bed- on my knees leaning on raised bit of bed- and then the major pushing really started. Then at 8.08am with 1 big push he came flying out. My notes say 5 hours for whole labour with 8 mins for 2nd stage. I tore a bit as he came out back to back but only have about 6 stitches so not too bad really. Andrew lay on my chest and fed after about an hour while I was being stitched up then he was sorted out. Oh yes he pooed on me twice too which was lovely!
Then as the delivery suite was still quiet and they knew I wanted to go home that day I got to stay there until we left which was at about 4pm after dh had got ds1 from childminder and my mum from the station (she got the train down from Scotland at about 8am so got here at the perfect time).

So far Andrew has mainly just slept, he slept a reasonable amount last night but did need held to sleep for most of that. DH took him downstairs about about 4am so I got a few hrs decent sleep too. He's feeding well so far so fingers crossed that continues.

Oh and I think he is wee as he is half a pound smaller than ds1 was!

That wasn't very short in the end, never mind. Better go now.

i've put a couple of photos on my profile.

mamamufin · 02/09/2008 14:53

mamamufin · 02/09/2008 14:55

Doh! I thought Id lost the first message.

DebitheScot · 02/09/2008 14:57

lol at the pineapple talk. I take it you didn't eat the middle bit lollie? I think that would make your tongue tingle.
All I had to do was plan to buy a pineapple, the thought of it was obviously enough! I told dh off for not getting on when he went shopping on Sunday afternoon (I hadn't told him to get one, was expecting him to mind read) but didn't need it after all.

DebitheScot · 02/09/2008 14:58

everyone in this house is asleep. Why am I on here and not asleep too?????

lollipopmother · 02/09/2008 15:09

Debi - Even I am about to go to sleep, I think you should get going yourself!! Love the birth story by the way, I hope mine goes that smoothly!

So more pineapple talk (sorry for the boring subject guys!) - I've had some effects, possibly not ones that I'd want, but definitely effects! I had a bit of a dicky tummy a couple of hours ago, and now I have a very dull period pain and also dull back ache, I would be sooooo bloody smug if I went in to labour today!! I know that this is absolute rubbish and the pains will probably go away in a minute, but I thought I should probably smug it up whilst I can, haha!

barnpot · 02/09/2008 15:21

Hi all just woke up from well deserved nap!! god I sound like I'm 90 lol.
Loving these birth stories, they sound really fab.
Saw MW this morning BP high again 130/90 but no protein in urine?? but she said here doesn't always have to be to develop PE.
measuring well, thinks he'll be in the 6-7lb region. She went through the ECV with me again, told me not to worry etc. Just wish I knew the future
Even had a lovely phone call from work to see if anything had happened yet, they're a lovely group, and managed to catch up with some gossip, I know I shouldn't but miss them loads.
Just cooking roast pork, which I've never done before, hope it turns out well, and what a lovely day, may even hang some washing out.

Debi thanks for the birth story, hope mine goes like that!

Urgh, this heartburn is sooooo tedious. Have downed most of a small bottle of gaviscon, and copious quantities of things like milk, and it's still here. actually feels like there are lumps of sick in my throat now. Which seems unfair somehow, since baby has clearly dropped a bit, can fit hand between boobs and uterus top!
