Brand new thread ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Slickbird · 04/09/2008 16:56

Except I panicked, not paniced.

babyinbelly · 04/09/2008 16:59

Yes it was me. Its weird being sick after chocolate isn't it.

I had a whole pack of jammy dodgers the other day (over about an hour period, i didn't just wolf them down!) And was promptly sick. Was such a waste. I really enjoyed eating them tho. The worst thing was the sickly sweet taste.

Slickbird · 04/09/2008 17:00

Oh and BTW, is it just me that looks very pregnant all of a sudden?? I am nearly 15 weeks (altho I still say 14).

AND I swear to God I'm sure I felt bambino kick a little today - repeatedly. This is my third so I'm pretty sure this was it, but seems pretty early.

babyinbelly · 04/09/2008 17:17

Am nearly 14w and feel a bit bigger but just look a bit fatter then I did before. Think it is getting there tho. hopefully have bump soon.

lolianja · 04/09/2008 17:31

I'm 14-and-a-half weeks now and not showing at all. Is it daft that I'm disappointed. I'm quite little built - 5'8" and wear a size about, am around the 50kg mark usually so I'd have thought that the pregnancy would have become evident quite quickly but nothing. My belly just looks a little less flat than usual but hardly enough for anyone to consider I might be pregnant even if I was wearing a tight camisole. My mum says I should be grateful (she was the same) but I can't help but look forward to the day that I start getting comments.

It just seems so odd that something that looked so comparatively large and childlike (as opposed to bloblike) could be residing inside a belly that looks almost exactly the same as it did before.

lolianja · 04/09/2008 17:32

Whoops, that was supposed to read "wear about a size 8". Bah. Butterfingers.

Boobz · 04/09/2008 17:33

Hello all!

Had my 12 week nuchal scan today. Was amazing! Saw everything including fingers and toes and she even pointed out the lens of the eye! Couldn't really see that bit, must admit. Almost didn't get the DVD as I thought it was a bit OTT, but then changed my mind and am really glad I did - have been watching it on and off all afternoon. There's one bit where he (she?) sticks her thumb in her mouth, takes it out and then swallows some fluid! Nice!

And we heard the heart beat - nice and strong! Was just all perfect. 1 in 14,000 for Downs so good result there. Just a really lovely 15 mins all in all.

Now just need to sort out transferring my hospital and getting my HB sorted.

xxx

laweaselmys · 04/09/2008 18:53

lollipopz I haven't been able to book a scan either and I'm 12 weeks there's some massive miss communication going on between my GP and the hospital and until they sort out the missing paperwork, they won't book me in!! It's so frustrating...

kat80 · 04/09/2008 19:45

Thanks for all the welcomes guys!! what a nice group of people!! Has anyone told work yet that they are expecting? I'm quickly getting larger, especially my face?!!! but am only on a years contract with work (till may 09) which obviously i wont be able to complete, and am worrying about telling work in case they ask me to leave, does anyone know if they can legally get away with it??

Slickbird · 04/09/2008 19:54

Don't worry Kae, I'm in the same boat - I took a fixed term contract job to cover maternity leave and then six weeks later I was pregnant (Must have been the chair). I probably, won't get maternity pay I should get maternity allowance from the Benefit agency and I would think that would apply to you. They can't sack you, that's illegal.

Slickbird · 04/09/2008 19:56

Sorry, that should say Kat!

kat80 · 04/09/2008 20:07

thanks slickbird! i'm covering matenity leave too so i'm agreeing with the chair theory!! have you told work? if so, what did they say? ahh good, so they cant sack me! phew!!! i wasn't sure as have had mixed thoughts about it from friends and family!! just working about the dates and going by my LMP it would have been 4 weeks after i took the jobs........whoops!! i'm kicking myself fr not staying where i was before i took this job!

kat80 · 04/09/2008 20:08

sorry, think i'm typing too fast and my ancient keyboard isn't keeping up so sorry for the typos!

dinny · 04/09/2008 20:57

Slickbird, I think I am showing a bit now (am 14 weeks on Sat), my 3rd pregnancy too

Slickbird · 04/09/2008 21:04

Dinny - I think it's easier to show third time round hey?? It all just pops right back out there! - I just hope it all pops right back in again after!

Kat - God what a co-oincidence! I told my boss at 6 weeks preg and she was very calm and supportive about it. My last employers were a feckin nightmare and I had been there for ages, and they treated me really badly, but this one has been great. I told them that it was absolutely not planned. I have made a really effort to go in everyday despite the sickness (altho I work in the mornings and tend to get worse as the day goes on, so that has helped) and they can see the effort I have made. But like I say, they can't fire you for it. My last place made life hell for me and I should have taken them to court but I decided against it for stress levels, for me, family and unborn bubba. I hope your work treat you kind! Good luck and let me know how you get on xxx

Slickbird · 04/09/2008 21:13

Boobz - I posted a message to you, but it didn't appear so if it does twice, I apologise! I was just saying that I'm glad your scan went well, must be a relief - espcially after all the unhappy news we've heard about the poor others on this board. and how odd it varies what they do at each scan. I have to wait til 16 -17 weeks to get bloods checked for downs risk and I still haven't heard the baby's heart rate - that will probably be at the same appt.

I've just been sick again and I thought I was doing better - when will it stop!!!???

SunshineSmith · 04/09/2008 22:28

Hi girls,

We had our scan last week, and it shows than we have a very active little bean. All ok so far. Phew!

Not feeling as tired now but still having lots of issues with food. Bah!

Could you share your fab stores to buy maternity clothes?

Have you bought mat gear on Ebay?

A wave to you all! xx

HopingCat · 04/09/2008 22:39

Slickbird - it's interesting that you think you've felt baby move. I've wondered this a few times myself. Would never have thought it was if I hadn't remembered what it was like when DD was kicking me. My MW said at booking in that it is possible to feel baby this early. I still don't know if it was baby or indigestion!

I've now told work and most of my friends. Some had guessed already as I've got a bump.

Someone asked when the tiredness stops. Well mine has stopped this week - at 13 weeks. I feel so much better, which is why I'm still up at 10.40pm.

Hey Slickbird - thanks for the message - yes it was a huge relief! After all the sad news on this board, I almost felt guilty writing it, but then figured this thread should be for happy as well as sad news.

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on maternity wear as well Sunshine -- I haven't got the first idea where to go and buy good stuff. No bump as yet, so I suppose I don't need to be thinking about it just yet, but I do need to go and get measured for a new bra. These beasts are enormous now!

TantiK · 05/09/2008 10:11

Morning all - welcome and congrats to all the newbies. I am still sooo jealous of all of you having scans - I am just about to hit the 11 week mark and my scan is for next week. I can't wait.

This is my second pg and my tummy is definitely pg - not that people would notice if they didn't know, but it feels huge to me and in certain clothes I think it is noticeable.

Sunshine/Boobz- For my first pg I got lots of clothes in H&M - they were fantastic at the time but as you can imagine not in great condition now. I have my eye on the Seraphine jeans, which have won loads of awards and also on the Isabella Oliver ranges (but only if selling cheap on ebay!). I now live in Italy so think I will have some problems getting hold of maternity clothes - the UK seems to have such a great range these days - in Next, or even in the supermarkets.

I may also have a problem with work - I currently work freelance for my ex-employer to cover holiday leave, but they are considering me for a perm part-time position. I have said I am interested but haven't mentioned the pg. Is that really bad?

Hope everyone has a good day today.
xx

babyinbelly · 05/09/2008 10:43

I got a few bits from ebay. Only problem is because sizes are sooooo different everywhere there is a lot of stuff that I get that doesn't fit. Eg I am a size 14 but red herring stuff too small and dorethy p's are too big in that size!

Its just getting to know what they are all like sizewise.

grinningbee · 05/09/2008 10:57

Morning all!

Well, I had my first mw appointment yesterday. Why why why do they need so much blood??? 4 tubes, almost an armful!

I've been told because of my ancient age (I'll be 38 when bean arrives) I have to have consultant led care. Is this bad? I haven't the foggiest.

All was going ok until she felt my tummy. I've developed a lopsided bump to the right of my bellybutton which is palm sized and varies in hardness through the day... she said it can't be anything to do with bean because it would mean I'm about 30 weeks!!! (wishfull thinking eh?). So.... it turns out that it's probably due to constipation!!! Imagine my horror when I realised I can feel my own full intestines... she didn't half pummel it to see what it was. I downed a large amount of prunes when we got home and it seems to have gone down a bit. DH went into a panic as he thinks it's something sinister... I said if it was she'd have called a doctor in.

Anyone else got this weird and wonderful problem?

One more question in this ramble of a post - when should you be able to feel something of a bump when you press with your hand? I'm 10 + 5 today, and nothing so far. Should I be worried?

Sorry for the long post!

emma2617 · 05/09/2008 11:12

Morning ladies!!

I am so excited hearing about everyones scans...i sometimes forget I am actually pregnant so coming on here reminds me!!

I have a question...I am going to see the midwife (i assume) on Thursday for my chose and book appointment as I have moved areas...do you think if I ask nicely she will have a feel/listen to baby to help calm me down?! As I have almost convinced myself bad things have happened!

Also...at 13 weeks 6 days I already have pram and nursery furniture paid for...I told my grandma last night and she jumped in straight away with offer to buy pram...and with my parents paying for furniture, soon there will be nothing left for us to buy!!! Wishful thinking!!!
