Sassafrass · 26/07/2008 14:32

Ipanemagirl, I do sympathise. I'm bad with heat in normal conditions and when pregnant I feel like I'm going to explode in a heat induced temper tantrum!

I've been thinking about packing my hospital bag for ages now but can't seem to get around to it. I think I need to make a list first of what I need so I can go out and buy the stuff. I've found some rather comfylooking nighties and pyjamas at Matalans, but I'll pack my two that I have since last pregnancy as well. They're my favourite to wear though so I won't pack them until the day.

Ponymum · 26/07/2008 14:39

Hi, yes I have been a bit quiet for a while, but have just done a big catch up reading the thread - 8 pages!! carrieon and muffin it's so nice to be missed! We should get together again - let's email.

The reason I've been quiet is I've been back at work this week and it's been crazy busy trying to finish things up. But as of 5pm yesterday I am now on 3 weeks' annual leave then start maternity leave straight after that so NO MORE WORK!! It hasn't really sunk in yet.

My boss is so dim and did NOTHING for my last day, despite me dropping hints. So my BF colleague came over after work instead, and DH put on a fab BBQ for us. I had a glass of wine to celebrate then we went for a "walk" around the village. I stupidly went on crutches instead of thinking we should use the wheelchair, and got really sore half way around. But I think the wine made me bold and we ended up climbing over a gate to cross a field! This is me with the SPD so bad I can't separate my knees without screaming. It took 3 of us to get me over, and the contortions were hilarious. But probably best I spend today resting as my pelvis was in agony during the night.
So happy to have finished work though!

izzybiz · 26/07/2008 16:36

Hi all!

I have just ordered my pram!! I got the Micralite Toro in Stone, got it on Mothercare website.
For the puschair and carrycot it came to £398.98. I have already bought the Maxi-cosi carseat which will fit on the chassi.

All I have left to get now is a swing, which my mum is buying, nappies, milk etc.
I also need to shop for my hospital bag, new jammies and slippers are needed!

So exciting now, only 8 weeks left, I am looking after a friends baby girl tommorrow, she is 3 months old and gorgeous!
They are taking my Dd with their Dd1 to paultons to meet Dora. I am really looking forward to playing with a beautiful baby all day!!

Not long now till we will need an announcement threadxx

mama2bee · 26/07/2008 18:05

Sounds like my boss ponymum - he won't even be there on my last day so chances are v slim I'd say. Will probably just go out for lunch with a few of my closest friends at work. So humid here today, and can't even have a cool shower - major mains water leak so no water all day - can you believe it?! DH took me out for lunch to try and lift my grumpy mood, which helped loads but then returned to find still no water! Makes you realise how much you take these things for granted. Anyway was supposed to be fixed over an hour ago but still nothing, oh well...

mamamufin · 26/07/2008 18:13

Hi guys
That pram is lovely izzybiz, I bet you cant wait to push it. I have ordered the Navy blue bug but have decided its too dull. As I havent picked it up yet I am hoping I can swop it for a charcoal base and stone fabric one .
Lol at your "walk" ponymum you must be in agony today. Congratulations on finishing work
Yes we must email and make a lunch date with carrieon. PIZZA HUT at monks cross maybe. My email is [email protected]. I am free all the time now work has finished.
Oh got to go Takeaway arrived xx

meglet · 26/07/2008 19:11

ponymum yay! you can put your feet up now and get some peace before the baby arrives.

eandz Noah and Jasper are fab, I wanted Jasper but DP didn't.

I had a lovely swim today which cooled me down. Might go again tomorrow.

eandz · 26/07/2008 19:15

meglet,
we can't have a jasper...it's not middle eastern enough. i do like it though.

meglet · 26/07/2008 19:23

oh poo eandz. Maybe you can get a pet and call it Jasper instead just to use up the name. I had to call one of my guinea pigs Spike as I was banned from calling our baby it!

eandz · 26/07/2008 19:25

yeah, i want two dogs... i wanted a max and a louis (but pronounced lou-eey) ...who knows when we'll be able to get a dog now since we're waiting on a baby.

splishsplosh · 26/07/2008 23:08

Wow it is still so hot and humid... I have been on my feet all day, rushing all around, walking / buses / trams etc - had to pick up electrical goods, hire a van, go to a storage place, shops, and continue desperately packing up the house, while also trying to pack up for me and dd to set off for Wales tomorrow.

I'm hot, sweaty and shattered

All I want to eat is crisps and cakes. I thought I'd bought a miky way in tesco tonight, after i spent 5 minutes fruitlessly searching through the bags, p told me he'd trod on it at the check out . Have no desire for proper nutritious food.

I'm feeling worried about a long car journey - me, cos might feel sick and rib pain could come on with the sitting. Dd cos she's never been on such a long journey and I'm worried about how to entertain her - have lots of snacks, some books and cds and hope that's enough. We're going to stay with friends who have loads of dogs, some ponies, pig, seep, goat, cat and ducks, so dd is very excited

I haven't decided on names yet either.
For boys, quite like Alexander, Luke, Felix (but is that impossible because of the cat?)
Girls I like Eve and Miranda but last time I just knew I wanted Isabella and had no doubts, this time I'm not sure about anything

All the baby clothes have disappeared into boxes and gone to storage so just hope baby doesn't make a sudden appearance! Bag totally unpacked, don't even have a hospital as waiting on referral to Kings, only thing organised is doula. Am hoping baby doesn't come in next 2 weeks as will be miles from anywhere and probably best help available will be a sheep farmer

eandz · 27/07/2008 00:07

ooh splish,
i also LOVE the name Felix. i think by the time he's old enough for school felix the cat will be a fleeting memory of our past.

mustsleep · 27/07/2008 11:57

arrggghh we still have no name and have only 7 weeks to go!! i am usually mush more organised

i think we are between freddie and ethan (although i am not sure) or maybe william

i 'm sure it will sort itself out

went to cannonhall on friday which the kid's loved it has a big adventure playround and petting zoo

did absolutely nothing yesterday as it was just too hot

have to go now but will back later after my mil from hell has left the building!!

Sassafrass · 27/07/2008 14:03

Anyone else suffering with the heat today? I had the fan on all night which gave me a headache =( Today we've been out to a local splash park and now dd is playing in the garden.

eandz · 27/07/2008 14:07

me! i'm suffering from heat. but my husband has gone out to get me another ac. (we have one in the bedroom).

notcitrus · 27/07/2008 14:51

I'm doing badly in the heat (which I think is unfair as I cope really badly in the cold!), and getting behind on my work.

Sleeping over 16 hours a day, but last night slept in the north-facing spare room with a small window rather than my bright south-facing room, and it was much better. The mattress is also bouncier and helped me turn over without hips hurting so much.

Off to see Batman soon, mostly just to get out of the house. And an excuse for an icecream.

Have also booked going to a convention at the end of the month - MrNC agreed as long as we could drive there and have the hospital bag, car seat, exercise ball etc in the car. What's the chances of Squirmy being born 2 1/2 weeks early, anyway? (I did check, and Leicester has a well-rated maternity unit, and I'll have my notes with me...)

Ponymum · 27/07/2008 15:14

It is too hot. How am I coping? I am lying naked with a fan going full speed and eating frozen yoghurt.

potxola · 27/07/2008 15:46

Ponymum Get a camara crew and they can film you while you rest, you could make some money!!!!!!
No, honestly, I am really uncomfortable too in this heat.

Yesterday I went to a friends house for the day and lunch was Cheddar, blue cheese, brie and a lovely cake which I had with clotted cream. I didn't eat the soft cheese, I knew I could only eat the cheddar, but I have just found out that sort of clotted cream is unpasturised. I feel awful about it. I have beeb socareful during the pregnancy. Will it be OK?

kiskidee · 27/07/2008 16:21

Lol. it is still not too hot for me. although i live in near the North Sea coast so it rarely gets as hot as it does inland.

I can imagine that you need at least an airconditioned bedroom in London now EandZ. Speaking of which, it is still in the cards that dh may get a job offer to work in Abu Dhabi. So if that happens, I still would like to email you for practical advice. Today he got a text asking for details wrt the ages of children who would be accompanying so it sounds v. likely.

I allowed dh to book 2 nights away when I am 39 wks pg. He really really wants to go to Lympstone, Devon. He is ex-Royal Marine and from before i got pg he was hoping to go to the annual meetup or whatever they call it. He has been to local ones in the NE but never back to the big one in Lympstone. He has some mates who live that way and at least one who is still a RM so I know that he will be in hog heaven.

Just playing a lottery with the baby not arriving on one of those days.

OP posts:
hopefully · 27/07/2008 16:29

Ponymum v jealous of you stopping work, can't wait to finish! Only a week left for me. My boss is also unlikely to do anything for me, so am planning on taking in cake for my colleagues and having nice afternoon tea at my desk!

Who was it who has the storksak (sp?) elizabeth bag? I was looking at them too and trying to decide if they were worth the insane sum of money.

Been to the beach today with old uni friends, was really nice, and got a few minutes sun on the bump (for some reason was paranoid about blinding the baby, so didn't keep bump out for too long...). Now sitting on sofa with fan in my face, planning on eating more ice cream from my AMAZING new ice cream maker that DP got for me the other day.

izzybiz · 27/07/2008 16:30

mamamuffin the bug with a brown base and stone fabric is really nice, I would of chosen those colours if I had got that pram

Had a lovely day with my friends baby girl today, she is soooo scrummy and the most contented baby I have ever met!

Dh and I got some funny looks when we were out today, with a 3 month old baby and me heavilly pregnant

Dd ahd a good day at Paultons, she met Dora and Diego, but is exhausted now and whinging!

I am too hot!xx

mamamufin · 27/07/2008 16:52

Hi guys.

I can picture you now ponymum ROFL.
I am hot too! I have spend an hour sitting in ds paddling pool. I used suncream on my exposed bits, but have still ended up with red blotches. Going to have a nice BBQ to cheer me up.
Hopefully its me with the Elizabeth Tan storksak . IMO Its wonderful! I know it was expensive but I am a handbag girl and I know this will last along time. It doesnt look like a changing bag on the outside but has lots of practical changing bag features on the inside. Enjoy your cake!
Thanks izzybiz the shop was closed today so will have to go there this week and check out the colours. The baby you had sounds adorable, I want one like that.

Gracie14 · 27/07/2008 17:40

Hi all,

Its been so long since I have been on. I am not coping with the heat and apparently its going to be like this all week And this is my last at work which is just typical.

I have done practically nothing this weekend, I feel so lazy couldn't even get out for dog walk with DP just now so he has gone on his own proberly thinking lazy, bloody cow!!! Did manage a cinema trip last night (although hardly major exercise ) to see batman which was very violent for a 12a film

I'm 35+1 today and thinking more and more about the birth. People keep asking me if I'm excited which of course I am but can't get over the labour part to start thinking about baby yet .

Hope everybody else is doing better than me in this heat - sitting in front of fan as we speak with feet up (as usual)

Sassafrass · 27/07/2008 17:58

Potxola, don't worry. As long as it's been refrigerated the chances of getting anything off the cream is miniscule. I must admit that after reading about the actual risks of catching listeria or and other stuff from things like soft cheeses I haven't bothered but rather indulged myself every now and then and had some pasterurised camembert.

Gracie14, I'm impressed that you're still working. I really don't think I would cope now. I'm 35 weeks, so a day behind you.

carrieon · 27/07/2008 18:05

gracie my dh said exactly the same thing about batman, he had been so looking forward to it but his overwhelming impression was the excessive violence and shock at the rating it had been given.

ponymum glad you're ok! Would love that pizza with mamamuffin. Anyone else communtable to Monks Cross shopping park outside York before we set a date?

Need some advice from you wise ladies on behalf of a friend. She's 23wks and in hospital with bleeding, its a clot on the cervix. I have no idea how serious or not this is, or implications for the baby and pregnancy. I can't find any threads about it on mumsnet, and googling didn't give any helpful results. I'm sure they're telling her what's going on but we're not getting much info and I'm wondering how worried to be!
