I'm with you, Pacita. Haven't dropped yet so my baby is still really high and I just started the 34th week as well. Feeling like I just got done working out when all I've been doing is sitting on the couch. Lol, so depressing when staying active and in shape used to be a daily thing!

Pitufina · 11/08/2008 11:21

I feel out of breath if I walk across the room! Can't wait for baby to drop.

kiskidee · 11/08/2008 11:40

Tricotti slings are good. I haven't used one or seen one but the principle behind it is sound.

I think it's just one of those last milestones that we're looking forward to now, the baby dropping. In the beginning it was like getting to the 2nd trimester, then feeling the baby, then the scan, then a bigger bump, lol now it's just like get in my pelvis so I can take a deep breath and then let's get the show on the road!

mamamufin · 11/08/2008 11:54

Hi guys and welcome to the new folk
Thanks for the sling links kisk i have been studying them and definetly want a moby now. I am really struggling with motivation today. Ds in nursery and I was hoping to do lots of housework but have spent this morning sitting on the couch! I feel so tired and uncomfortable at the moment.

lollipopmother · 11/08/2008 11:59

Hi, can any of the London meet-up people go into the meet-up thread and answer my question on time and place, I think it's been changed a few times and I don't want to go to the wrong place!

Pitufina · 11/08/2008 12:15

mellabella - you're right. There's always something we're looking forward to with pregnancy.
In a funny way I sometimes still don't believe I'm actually pregnant! Lots of evidence to suggest I am, mind! I can't quite believe that soon I will be holding a little bundle in my arms! It only seems like yesterday that I had my son in my arms!

surelyyoucantbeserious · 11/08/2008 12:18

hee hee pitufina I feel a bit like that. Have got to a point where I'm not convinced there really is going to be a baby at the end of all of this! despite all the evidence!!

Pitufina · 11/08/2008 12:22

he he he. You're right!

mellabella · 11/08/2008 12:29

haha, just yesterday my hubby and I were going through the baby clothes trying to decide what to pack for the hospital and we both just looked at each other and were like "whose baby are we doing this for??" just does NOT seem real at all.

notsoslimnow · 11/08/2008 12:29

hi all, hope everyone is well.this may be way tmi for this thread but.... can i ask if anyone would be prepared to tell me about their plans for contraception after the birth? i have just thought about it and have no idea when you are supposed to go back on the pill (if thats what you decide to do) i am unable to breast feed and would like to go back on the pill.if anyone could give their thoughts on when to see the doctor to get it etc i would really appreciate it. dont want to leave it til i have a demanding baby to look after too!

eandz · 11/08/2008 12:34

surelyyoucantbeserious,
we bought the cameleon too. we're out of a car till march, but are only going to buy whatever car can fit the stroller itself. it's soo confusing.

mellabella,
i'm ready to have my baby. i'm just not ready to deliver him yet!

Pitufina · 11/08/2008 12:43

Good point, eandz!!

surelyyoucantbeserious · 11/08/2008 12:50

Thanks eandz. Madness isn't it. I'm thinking cameleon will be easy to sell on once we stop using it and get the inevitable maclaren pushchair, which is what everyone seems to end up with anyway... Why oh why don't mcclaren make a nice cheap pram for first 6 months, then you could get separate mcclaren pushchair once baby is big enough - surely then we'd all be happy?!?

hee hee! yeah I'm looking forward to the bit after the delivery where we are all installed at home with little one... ahh

Re: London meet up, I'm helping out at my niece's 4th birthday party (not sure how much help I'll be waddling around out of breath) otherwise would love to meet up with you all. Maybe next time.....Have fun!

eandz · 11/08/2008 13:41

it's ok. surelyyoucantbeserious,
i'm meeting littleconnie sometime soonish for coffee. your more than welcome to join in.

infact, anyone is once we decide on the date, time and venue.

eandz · 11/08/2008 13:45

notsoslimnow,
i will be breast feeding, but i'm super fertile. i've gotten pregnant several times and each time i've been on the pill. i'm going to try a coil next. (i'm pretty desperate to have atleast a 1.5 year age gap between children) and i'm determined to have 4.

LittleConnie · 11/08/2008 14:02

We need a new thread immediately... only 7 posts left!
How about Due Sept 08: Bring on the babies! Or is that slightly premature given the amount we natter? Other suggestions welcome does anyone have a better idea?

Pitufina · 11/08/2008 14:23

LittleConnie - that thread title sounds fine to me.
Now only 6 posts to go!!!

biglips · 11/08/2008 14:28

Notsoslimnow - you start your pill once youve had your first period and same with the coil you gotta wait till you have your first period before u have one put in. I was on the coil for over 3 yrs and my period stopped 8 months later (it was bliss) but the only prob i had was v v v v v v v v (and i mean VERY!!) tender breasts for 3 weeks every month...its kills me! Cant go back on the pill for the rest of my life as its caused my Blood pressure to go thru the roof!. So its either injection or mini pill...dunno yet!

biglips · 11/08/2008 14:29

yes sounds fine LittleConnie

LittleConnie · 11/08/2008 14:33

New thread here
come on over...

potxola · 11/08/2008 15:09

DebitheScott I am not the expert, but I went through reviews, magazines and talked to lots of mums and most of them compliained that the premax doesn't last long, gives you back pain and you donn't feel you can go free hands. The mums that decided to buy a sling type carrier after the premax were very pleased and really enjoyed baby wearing. I wanted sling that is confortable for me and the baby that feels safe and segure and that it last at leasrt 3 years.
The best ones in mi opinion, are Close baby carrier £50.00, Kari-me £40.00, Tricot slein £40.00, Moby wrap £30.00. There are always bargains or at least free delivery in some webs.
The Tricot they sell it in Jo Jo, only in brown, we can have 10% off from mumsnet and free P&P. The Close now is free delivery in Blooming marvellous (BEM2 is the code), but you might get it cheaper in other webs.
Hope it helps

DebitheScot · 11/08/2008 15:40

Thanks for the sling help kiskidee and potxola, ds has decided to wake up from his nap just as I sat down here so I'll have a proper investigate of your links later.

I discovered earlier (while wrestling with the car seat after washing the covers of it) that according to the instructions it doesn't actually fit our car even though we used it with ds in the same car for about 6 months! Oops, not sure what to do now, don't know if Mothercare or halfords would take a look at it even though I didn't buy it from there.

jearund · 11/08/2008 19:04

Had my 34 week consultant appt at the hospital today. Lots to tell! First I went through my notes from the last labour with a midwife (she gave me the choice of that or making an appt to go through them slowly another time). It seems that I was right that I was basically ignored - they didn't even mention my requests for pain relief in the notes! But the reason was that DD was in substantial distress (more than I was aware of at the time) and so everyone was focused on her needs and mine took a back seat. I was in for the c-section within an hour, which apparently is very quick, and reflects how eager they were to get her out. So although it's not great that they didn't keep me up to speed, now I know why I feel happier about it - and they definitely did what was best for her and I've never doubted that.

Secondly, it looks like I'll be having a c-section after all. At my 20 week appt the registrar was pushing me towards a VBAC, which I had decided to go for. However the (more experienced) consultant today said the registrar had not taken into account the reason for my previous section when she said that. Apparently if you have a section because of an infection, as I did, the scar doesn't heal as well and you are at substantially greater risk of the scar tearing during labour (the other major cause of this being induction so that's definitely not happening!). She didn't have the stats but suggested something more like 1:50 rather than the usual 1:200. Because of all this, if I go for a VBAC I will be 'low threshold c-section' ie at the first sign of anything going wrong/ labour not progressing I'd have a section. Another factor is that I didn't dilate last time. I thought maybe this was down to the infection but she said that actually you usually find labour speeds up when there's an infection as the body wants to get the baby out. So that raises the chances of failing to progress this time.

All in all she thought the chances of me ending up with a section were high, and said I should book one in but I can pick any time from 38-41 weeks depending on whether I wanted to try for the VBAC anyway. I've booked in for my due date, and have another appt at 38 weeks, but on reflection I'll probably move the c-section to 39 weeks and not try for the VBAC. Recovery is going to be easier from an elective so it's probably better if I do that than risk another emergency one. Incidentally she said the reason it took me ages to recover last time was because of the infection - my friend who had an elective was back to normal weeks before I was!

So looks like Wee Dougie might be coming out through the sun roof like his sister after all! If I go for 39 weeks that's a week less to wait too.....
