nothing wrong with Noah. It is as easy to say as Namir. I just think she is trying to lean on you a bit.

she sounds like a lovely lady though.

Don't do Emmanuelle, Emmanuelle is a girl's name in French plus a bunch of soft porn flicks from the seventies had Emmanuelle as the, erm, leading lady. Based on the DH Lawrence book, Lady Chatterly's Lover, I believe.

Emmanuel is the masculine form if you still like it.

8eanz Can you lend me your mil?
I also like Noah.
Something funny to tellyou. When we decided the name for my ds 4 yrs ago, my mum said. "I dont like it, I will call him Brian instead" CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
Do what you want Eandz. By the way, my mum now uses my ds nanme and likes it.

Kiskidee;
No, I'm happy with Noah. Husband is too. Namir on the other hand is something we've never heard before and aren't keen on. i have no idea what compromises are possible with the current state.

btw, thanks for correcting the emanuelle-emanuel thing because to be honest i thought it was all the same name. (dumb me). seriously, it was used in porn flicks? can it even be moaned out during a scene? (not to gross anyone out).

eandz · 25/07/2008 22:07

oh, potxola...
i'd be more than happy to share her with you. you might have to give her some honorary grandkids though.

kiskidee · 25/07/2008 22:07

your baby, you call it what you like. they'll just have to get used to it.

emmanuelle

hmmm...ok lets scratch that name suggestion all together.

jenpet · 25/07/2008 22:17

Just mentioned Emmanuelle to DH on the phone just now - started going on about dodgy 70's porn too!!
Agree with whoever said mothers & mils have had their chance to name babies & now it's our turn (although in my case mil is 83 and has some odd ideas about baby-naming & I haven't spoken to my own mother for 2 and a half years so I've not really got anyone influencing me...)

notcitrus · 25/07/2008 22:25

My parents are mostly just joking when they recommend names (Cedric, Cecil, Humphrey, Harold, Alfred, Jasper...) I rather liked Athelstan but had to agree that a betta fish would probably carry it off a lot better. (Which means I can get a betta as soon as I've got used to a baby! )

I think we have a name for Squirmy (have about 4 possible first middle names, then my surname as a 2nd middle, then MrNC's surname). But MrNC insists he wants to meet Squirmy first before agreeing the name for definite...

Noah is a perfectly good name, classic, easy to spell and pronounce - more common than it was but not hugely common.

eandz · 26/07/2008 00:05

actually, I know this is gonna sound naff (sp?), but i like the sound of Jasper.

Noah is decent...we're gonna keep it but i know we're going to have to play the charade of going through names with mil but will end up sticking with Noah.

becaroo · 26/07/2008 08:44

ooh, I like Jasper too eandz

Have got tonisilitis (sp?) Fed up. Cant take any decent painkillers and throat covered in white goo

I really get on with my MIL too, eandz which ironically sometimes makes it difficult to stand up for myself....however, she seems to like the name Toby so I guess we're ok for now!

Dh has taken ds out for the morning so off to tesco in a minute and then some light cleaning....bluergh.

carrieon · 26/07/2008 08:57

Flat pack success in the Carrieon house! We now have our new wardrobes, and the old ones are up in dd's room. Of course I have to move her clothes while she's awake, but not under my feet, so dh will take her for a bit today while I do that. And we got some gorgeous animal stickers from Homebase yesterday, so I can decorate the walls and pretend we have a theme! I have to do a bit more work to the blackout blind (loooong story) and then we're good to go.
And THEN I will get baby stuff out of the loft coz I'll have somewhere to put it, and also pack my bag, coz I'll keep that in the nursery too. Hooray!
I'm loving all this talk of change bags. I'm a total bag addict. The one I have for dd has squillions of pockets and I carry round nappies, wipes, suncream, food, drink, reins, muslins, hats etc etc...just shove stuff in. Plus there's a separate bit for my wallet, phone and keys, and even a special pocket where I keep my discount vouchers, and any other vouchers I may have! I was seriously tempted to just get an ordinary rucksack, I admit it would do, but this is my one indulgence! ALso, using the washable nappies means you often end up carrying a dirty one around, so clearly I need a whole extra section to keep it away from snacks and drinks . Gee I'm good at justifying large expenditure to myself...

On the names front, you lot are the only people we've told our names to, and I bet you can't remember! Got into so many debates with in-laws who suggested rubbish names last time that this time it isn't open for discussion. The name will be announced and that will be that.

Oooh its a sunny day, time to get washing on the line!!

Sassafrass · 26/07/2008 09:03

Carrieon, good job on the flatpacks. I love constructing stuff but I'm not very good at it =)

I got my paperwork for the c-section in the mail just now, got me really excited. I have my pre-op appointment on the 15th which is only 3 weeks away. I'll have to be at the ward at 7.30 in the morning on the day for the c-section so I think I'll arrange for Becky (dd1) to have a sleepover at the grandparents instead of dropping her of early in the morning. I now feel this incredible urge to get the house tidied up and all the baby stuff sorted.

MummyToOneForNow · 26/07/2008 09:12

everytime mil asks if we have thought about names yet we say not really - we are waiting until closer to the time - she didn't like our choice for dd and she's certainly not having any say - the name will be our choice and announced on the day!

mamamufin · 26/07/2008 09:35

Morning all

Jenpet what do you think of louis. Is that french?
The muffin man wants this little one to be called Euan lewis hugh .
However, I keep thinking of donald ducks nephews Euey, lewy & Hughy. Help!
Congrats on your wardrobe success carieon it must be a releif. By the way I know what name you chose but wont post it dont worry.
Eandz I love the name noah too .
Gosh its getting near for some of us. Good luck with the nesting sass
The muffin man is taking ds to digger land today. I would have liked to go but fear I will hold them back with my waddle and I get sore pelvis walking far. By the way I went to the physio this week and she confirmed spd. However, she told me that it would not effect my birth and gave me a list of excercises to do. She did not give me a belt as she did not rate them. I told her I was doing my pelvic floor excercises twice a day and she said that this was no where near enough and that I should be doing them at least six times . .

jenpet · 26/07/2008 10:40

Morning all mamamufin I like Louis a lot, DS1 was almost Louis until we finally settled on Jake about 3 days after he arrived, and now he is SUCH a Jake I cannot imagine him as anything else. It is so true they grow into their names I think, but Louis is pretty high on the list...
It's really exciting to hear all your plans now, it is getting really close, it has flown by this time. I should spend the day cleaning the house, but it's too hot so I'm going to try and make some bunting for DS1's bedroom as I'm trying to brighten it up a bit for when he gets back!

carrieon · 26/07/2008 11:07

Oooh I love the name Jake!
Its ok that you know my names mamamuffin, I told people from here coz I know you won't be mean!! Can you believe my dad and MIL have both suggested their own names as being suitable. They're not.

Hows ponymum...? Been a bit quiet lately...

eandz · 26/07/2008 13:08

i like jake too. good name.

eh mil- her saintly-ness always has a way about it. i do feel sometimes that we have to do her reasonable requests because she's done soo much for us.

carrieon · 26/07/2008 13:22

The important thing there eandz is her reasonable requests and I don't think anyone here would think that naming your child counts in that! Can you find another way to show your overwhelming gratitude...?

Dh has just asked me to put suncream on him after he's been out there for 2 hours painting the back gate. A case of locking the stable door after the horse has left the country I feel. Better find the aftersun for later!

eandz · 26/07/2008 13:26

carrieon,
arnica and aloe will help if he's got sunburned. i hope he hasn't though.

yeah, we're steadfast on the name noah. it's not gonna change but the whole 'lets see what else is out there' with her is gonna be the only thing we can do.

mamamufin · 26/07/2008 13:49

What about letting her choose a middle name eandz?
Gosh its hot. I m a bit bored now dh and ds are out at the digger land. I have just been doing a bit of digging myself. Harvesting the potatoes. Ive had to stop as it makes me feel a bit queasy. What next?
Hope your dh is ok carrieon. I too have been wondering about ponymum.

eandz · 26/07/2008 13:52

mamamufin,
we were gonna wait till she found a name she was fixated on and then see if it would be a compatible middle name, if not then continue the search...to be honest i have no idea what we're getting into. i hope this doesn't blow up in our face. the names she's picked so far are 'ishmael' and 'namir'. neither of which are ok with me or dh. we'll see how it goes we have some time still.

ipanemagirl · 26/07/2008 13:59

Hello everyone here! Have not been around at all much lately, have been in pg denial quite a bit. But now I've got the car seat, the moses basket, the cot & the baby clothes out of the loft and the inlaws have ordered a new pushchair.... I'm starting to nest I think!

I'm due between the 14-16 (notes conflict)
Not enjoying the heat
Starving for carbs and bad stuff all the time
Fatty ankles
Some heartburn
V Grumpy with dh today
Antenatal yoga tomorrow... sigh
Has everyone else packed their hosp bag yet if they're doing the hosp thing?
Feel as if I should bite the bullet on that one and at least start thinking about it!

mamamufin · 26/07/2008 13:59

Thats a good idea eandz . My fingers are crossed that she comes up with a feasible middle name suggestion. Gosh Im struggling in this heat. Is anyone else?

ipanemagirl · 26/07/2008 14:01

eandz I love the name Noah! It's a great name.
