mama - I suddenly had more difficulty walking last night and complained it was like having someone's head shoved inside my pelvis. It then dawned on me that this was probably because I did have someone's head shoved inside my pelvis!

Birth announcement cards? Am I expected to do these? Was thinking of a bunch of text messages and eventually a mass email with photo...

potxola · 09/08/2008 10:55

Hi, I am doing it today: I am going to pack my bag. I will take 5 minutes, I have a list of things and the things I need are in plastic bags. I just don't know why I haven't done it yet.
My ds is great at the moment, he is really looking forward to seeing his little sister and loves cuddling my tummy. I am so pleased he is so full of love for her. He is now fully potty trained and I can see the change in him, he wants to be my little helper with Lorea.
mamamuffin my bump has also dropped and I can feel the baby is already engaged.

mellabella · 09/08/2008 11:04

Hi all, I'm new to the website but thought I'd join even though I only have a little over a month left. Anyone else due on the 21st? How accurate do you think the fundal height is? I saw the midwife on Tuesday and she said I was only measuring 31 weeks instead of 33.... kinda worried about this. It doesn't seem like my bump is getting any bigger either. Just wondering how you are all doing so far.

mustsleep · 09/08/2008 11:30

mellabella i wouldn;t worry about the fundal height measurement it has been discussed on here before and it's all very up to who is measuring you as they all seem to come out with different measurements

i went to the midwifes and was mesured at 35cms when i was 33 weeks plus 3 days
i went to the hospital 11 days later and was measured by the student midwife at 34cms
and then by the doctor at 33cms

so i shouldn;t worry too much but i believe i heard somewehere that if your moeasurements are more than 4 cms out that they may monitor you more closely or send you for a scan to check the growth although i may be wrong

charitygirl · 09/08/2008 11:59

Hi Mellabella - I'm due on the 21st too, but I think we're the only ones!

Don't worry about fundal - the professionals know when the baby is not growing properly and its determined by more than fundal height I think.

I seem to have entered a strange dream world mentally - still just about functioning like a normal adult, but feel quite floaty and vague - this must be the final stage hormines!

biglips · 09/08/2008 12:41

welcome Mellabella ...do u know if you are having a boy/girl? Is this your first?

well today got a headache...must be to do with the change of the weather! as its pouring down and windy here.

i think my baby got into a sleeping pattern now
as its less active now... wheres that wriggler??

Mustsleep - i havent thought of a name yet too! as i think we are too lazy to think atm!. We are looking for an unique name as my dd had got a unique name. Looking into Irish names and Old English names...when i can be bothered to look at it!... Shame on me!

biglips · 09/08/2008 12:45

mellabella - at 34 weeks i was measured 37cm but i am expecting an big baby like my DD was as she was 9lb 1oz at birth (12 days late). Take alook at my piccy on my profile at 39 weeks pg. (Atm i look alot smaller and in the last month the growth does slowed down abit but im expecting to be the same size at 39 weeks)

eandz · 09/08/2008 12:45

welcome Mellabella, i'm due on the 20th so just a day before you.

Mustsleep,
if you live close by i can make a gingerbread house for your centerpiece and send it to you? i always make four and send them to people who might need one...otherwise maybe you can make one next year with the kids. having the family over this year is going to be such an enormous task.

have you started thinking about your menu yet?

hopefully · 09/08/2008 13:15

I'm nearly 36 weeks, and I've alternated between measuring big and small at every midwife appointment, and she seems singularly unconcerned by it.

I am slightly annoyed that I'm feeling movement in very different places, which makes me think baby might have moved from its perfect head down, spine to the left position. Bump has also definitely dropped a bit, breathing is easier and heartburn has eased as well. Still a few weeks to get bigger and bigger though!

Hope I haven't missed anything in the last 24 hours - will have to skim read the posts...

nellyonthetelly · 09/08/2008 13:25

Welcome Mellabella - I'm 20th bt will be aiming for 21st, which is my DD 2nd birthday - a double birthday would be nice!

Although thought I might be having an 8/8/8 baby, have had a terrible 48 hours of bump pain - I knew it wasn't contractions, but it made walking any movement tricky and at times I was yelping in agony. As I'm 33 weeks and because pain was at the sides, I'm guessing it was trying to move from Transverse to head down... better now, and I have my gym ball to bounce on so that should help. Anyone else been suffering cos of a restless baby?

becaroo · 09/08/2008 13:54

Nelly...god, yes!

Totally fed up. In a lot of pain again last night. Got about 2 hours sleep, if that.

Am going to beg the consultant next monday to break my waters at 37 weeks!

becaroo · 09/08/2008 13:55

Birth announcement cards????

God, never even thought of that!

Might just do texts

biglips · 09/08/2008 14:06

well thats my hossy bag sorted.....well just gotta get 2 pairs of pjs and big cheap knickers for hossy that i will be throwing away. thats it!. Dd is sooooo excited atm!

my mum noticed my belly had dropped too.

biglips · 09/08/2008 14:06

my head will be mashed to be bothered to do the birth announcement as texts for me too!

kiskidee · 09/08/2008 14:40

Here is something I 'discovered', so to speak.

All day last Wed I was suffering badly with SPD but also my bump and entire back was aching, not just my bottom and upper thighs.

I spent a long time leaning over my birthing ball, kneeling on the floor and making circles and rocking back to front, side to side whatever was comfy.

Later I got up and walked, walked not waddle like a pg woman off into the kitchen. No pain, anywhere at all.

Yesterday I went out with dd to meet my friend who I only see once a year as she lives in S'hampton. With 3 active kids between us in tow I knew it was going to a tiring day.

I ended up carrying my 3yo dd in my sling on my back for part of the time as well. When I got home, again, leant over my ball and did my thing. Today, I don't feel any 'punishment' for what I have done.

Moral of the story, I am spending as much time as possible over that thing.

becaroo we don't do birth announcement cards, just a big round robin e-mail with a picture or two.

But (and this is a bit stepford wife ), I will do a mini spreadsheet on the computer and print it out so I can list what gifts we receive. Think last time I just did one column with gift info and the other noting who gave it, stuck the page on the fridge and scribbled down each gift as it arrived. That way I can get the thank you cards done really easily. Must get lots of stamps too.

Got myself arnica tabs, fennel/peppermint teabags and miso soup for my hospital bag. I'm going to try a light diet for a day or two after my c/s as I think I over did it on carbs last time and my previously empty system got a bit clogged up.

notsoslimnow · 09/08/2008 15:18

hi MELLABELLA, im due on september 21st too!im not seeing any real growth at the moment either, but have been told by a consultant (who im no longer under) it looks like im carrying a big baby.etimated the birth weight at 9lbs ish.yet everyone says i dont look very big for 34 weeks!!! i would take it with a pinch of salt.is this your first??

notsoslimnow · 09/08/2008 15:19

oh, forgot to ask....has anyone started taking rasberry leaf tea/tablets? is 34 weeks ok to start?

eandz · 09/08/2008 15:31

i'm starting my rasberry leaf tablets in a few days. i'm at 34 weeks.

DebitheScot · 09/08/2008 16:39

biglips and mustsleep we haven't decided on names either yet. I'm hoping it'll come out with a label on! DH and I both did lists, his boy list has virtually nothing on it and mine has quite a few names, his girl name is long but mine is very short. And there are no names on both of our lists.

I'd forgotten about drinks for hosp bag, must get some and good idea about straw ones. For snacks I took starlights advice about fun size chocolate bars, they are good as they fit in your mouth in 1 go, I even practiced a few just to make sure! I got twixes and milkyways. I also got tuc biscuits. Mind you the last time I only ate the snacks afterwards as labour was too quick to think about eating.

We did birth announcement cards through truprint last time, they were quite reasonably priced, looked good and came really quickly. Have a look at their website and set up an account with them now if you think you might do that as then it'll be quicker to do. You could even choose your card design now and start filling it in and save it ready to add the last bits to later.

mumiyumi · 09/08/2008 17:20

I've just been to get a new mamas ans papas changing mat to match nursery, when i had one last time for ds it was a very sensible wipeable plastic type, but now they've changed it to a "deluxe" all soft material...how impractical as you can't wash it...never seen anything so impractable! and they were wanting £30 for it....WHAT!!!

eandz · 09/08/2008 18:10

mumiyumi,
i agree. i was there the other day buying swaddle blankets and some other stuff and looked at the changing mats and knew it couldn't have been a good idea. (i'm a newbie to this baby business so i'm proud i didn't buy it).

pacita · 09/08/2008 18:33

Hi all,

just got back from my first NCT class. It was pretty full on: 6 hours of birthing, pain relief, breathing, and the like. It really got bf into his role on the big day, so I guess that's a good thing.

Thanks for tips on hospital snacks: drinks with straws and bitesize snacks are also things that they mentioned at NCT.

mustsleep · 09/08/2008 18:51

hi all

still no name here we are between william and christian at the mo although i don;t like chris so maybe william shortened to will ... but we will see as we are soo changable

thanks enadz that would be lovely of you but we are in leeds so a bit far away

omg ow much of our stuff has broken in the last month!!
first our microwave broke (burst into flames in the kitchen infact) and it wasn't ours so we owe my sister a new one if she ever leaves home again!
then the telly we bought off ebay ceased to work
then the vac broke
and now our microwave that we got back out to replace my sisters has just stopped working!! surley nothing else can go wrong

unfortunately our microwave was a grill one as the cooker grill doesn;t work so we have no grill at the mo either

have been diy-ing like mad and now we have 3 bedrooms!! yay!! so i can finally start decorating the baby's room when the electrics get done next week!
and i have to decorate the other two rooms i will be like a pig in poo!!

is anyone having any cravings i am totally addicted to vimto at the moment cannot get enough of it

surelyyoucantbeserious · 09/08/2008 19:12

Bogie so sorry to hear about your nephew.

Thanks v much for the SPD tips carrieon, notcitrus, sunshine, kiskidee etc. Birthday ball sounds fab. Some pain every now and then even though I'm mostly resting... ho hum. Moving in bed it v difficult as I'm so cautious about damaging anything.

Still trying to decide on prams/pushchairs! What a minefield...nothing quite seems to fit the bill, lots are ruled out for us as we are both pretty tall. May go for bugaboo Chameleon although loathe to spend that much but ticks most boxes. Might try for a 2nd hand one. We'll just have to have more than one baby to make it worth the expense

Good to hear everyone's bf in public comments. This is my first and increasingly realise I don't have a clue. Was in sainsbury's wondering how on earth you're meant to do big shops with a little one.... I guess you work it all out as you go along!!

Just SO excited about meeting baby now though, despite not having names sorted etc etc but just can't wait
