Hi everyone I haven't had a chance to read or post for what seems like ages! I hope everyone is well and CONGRATULATIONS jenbot! I hope Clara is still doing well and will be home with you soon.

DS2 arrived home this week, at 5 weeks old and weighing 4lb 3oz, up from his birthweight of 3lb. He's so tiny, but growing fast! I've put a photo of him on my profile It seems really strange to be sat here with a sleeping baby on me when most of you are still waiting for your lo's to arrive (I hope they all arrive on time and no-one else has an unexpected early arrival!). His name is Felix and he is absolutely perfect.

I'll keep an eye on the thread for more birth announcements, good luck everyone!

mustsleep · 09/08/2008 19:17

surelyyoucan;tbeserious the supermarket big weekly shopisn;t actually that bad when they are little as if they have a dummy etc they normally sleep all the way through it (although if they wake you can guarantee it will be when you are trying to pack the shopping and you will end up doing so to the sounds of one wailing child)

it's worse when they are older and want everything on the way round or are like ds and can just disappear into thin air!

i do mine online as i just cannot bear it!! although supermarkets anger me at the best of times with any lo's around - why do the old people feel the need to go on a weekend and then stand dithering in the middle of each aisle or decide it's like a social club and all gather blocking the aisle ??

KashaSarrasin · 09/08/2008 19:17

bogie just saw your post about your nephew. I'm so sorry I'll be thinking of you and your family.

surelyyoucantbeserious · 09/08/2008 19:17

mustsleep we might go for william as middle name for a boy, I think it's lovely and it's in the family. We also like George as first name - probably v popular but you just have to go with what you like i guess...we are v changeable too, boys names seem much harder than girls I reckon.

surelyyoucantbeserious · 09/08/2008 19:19

mustsleep ha ha re: the old people! I got stuck behind an old lady last week in the daytime but then realised I wasn't much faster than her when I tried to overtake

biglips · 09/08/2008 19:52

KashaSarrasin - HOORAY!!!!! DS2 is home and hes gorgeous too!!! cant believe it was 5 weeks ago you gave birth. Can i ask how come he came early?

biglips · 09/08/2008 19:53

mustsleep - i can just about to overtake an old person too

biglips · 09/08/2008 20:07

my gosh!!!!!

this baby is doing somersaults!!!! must be making up for the last 3 days of stillness!

meglet · 09/08/2008 20:08

What happens with our post-natal thread? Do we start it from Sept 1st, or whenever someone has the energy to do it. If it's started now it'll be pretty empty for a week or two at least!

biglips · 09/08/2008 20:12

meglet - it usually starts with the first person who had their baby (and prob if they got the energy to do it) but carry on with the Antel-natal thread till the last person gives birth.

meglet · 09/08/2008 20:24

thanks biglips . I thought there would be an overlap for a while. Bit weird to think johnworf had her DD back in May, but a few of us will still be waiting for babies come the start of Oct!

I am going to try and haggle with my consultant for a slightly early c/s at either 38 + 5 or 6 days, my lil sis will be around to help in the hospital then and she's got a medical background and v.good at that sort of thing. I don't want to be at the mercy of the midwives like last time. I should have popped by 1st Sept at the latest.

KashaSarrasin · 09/08/2008 20:51

biglips - I'd had bleeds all the way through the pregnancy due to clots on the placenta, then went into spontaneous labour at 30+5 a week after a big bleed. Scary but it all worked out OK (so far) fortunately!

becaroo · 09/08/2008 21:08

Kasha...thats fab news and what a great weight gain in only 5 weeks!

Put my new pram together today...very exciting! Its a Silver Cross 3d pram and quite stylish.

Only job left to do is defrost the chest freezer....feeling very organised for once.

Have sorted out ds winter pjs and clothes, his new school uniform, underwear and shoes. Have also ordered all the birthday presents I will need up to and after baby is born....my dh thinks I am mad, but I REALLY dont want to be doing it when baby has just arrived (and I dont trust dh to get it right!)

Oh, and my rental TENS machine came this morning........

potxola · 09/08/2008 21:58

kasha I am sooooooo happy for you. Felix is gorgeous and I can see he likes to BF. Well done mama!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I found out that another friend gave birth last week, she was due to a C-section a day before me on August 27th. It is a good thing I have pack my bags, YES, I HAVE FINALLY DONE IT!!!!!!!!!!

I have packed lots of nutrigrain bars and fruit juices. With my ds I bought lots of triple chocolate muffins from the hospital, so I will send my dh to buy some in the supermarket.

biglips · 10/08/2008 03:45

well here i am wide awake as im hungry and also i had strong braxton hicks that aches my belly. just having a bowl of brekkie and back off to bed.

kiskidee · 10/08/2008 04:40

I am opting for cashews, dried apricots and cranberries as nibbles as well as plain Doritos and chocolate in labour. I also have a miso soup and a lentil soup lined up.

Congratulations on bringing Felix home, Kasha.

Congratulations Kasha felix is gorgeous . You must be over the moon to have him home.
Gosh Biglips and Kis you two where up early.
I reckon we stay together on one big thread until the last babe has popped. I dont want to think of us splitting up and we can be of more support if we stick together. What do others think? Have a nice day. x

biglips · 10/08/2008 10:24

Yes thats a better idea that we all stay together on one thread.

Yes the braxton hicks came on very strong..i need to walk round to get my tummy to soften up again, it was like carrying a house on front of me!

eandz · 10/08/2008 11:10

yeah, i'd like to stay with this group.

surelyyoucantbeserious · 10/08/2008 12:37

Fab news Kasha - congratulations!!

jennylindinha · 10/08/2008 15:25

Whew - just catching up with you lot after a week away! Have only managed to skim through but see that I've missed alot!

Firstly, congratulations Jenbot and welcome to little Clara! Hope you are both doing well.

Welcome to newbies, it's never too late to get started on mumsnet!

Bogie - very sorry to hear about your nephew, that is very sad news... Best wishes to you and your family.

So, a week away and it feels like longer. DP and I took DSD to the Big Chill festival which was great and very relaxed, but I was knackered out from walking up the big hill back to the tent every night. We then drove to Cornwall whereupon it rained solidly for days and we only had one good sunny day on Friday. Still, spent that one on the beach so that all good. Disaster struck though with the car radiator having a massive leak. DP managed to fix it and all was well until we got stuck in a traffic jam yesterday on the way home and it blew another massive leak - steam pouring out of the engine, the lot! People were really kind and kept passing us bottles of water out of their windows as they went past! Somehow we got to the nearest town and then managed to track down a new part in another place 8 miles away that was going to close in 10 minutes. Luckily they waited for us and DP sorted it out and we managed to get back by 10.30 last night. Still shattered today! Think I am definitely festivalled/camped out for this year now.

Pidge hope you had some better weather for your trip. I have managed to seee the Community Midwives at Kings and they were lovely. They are going to visit us at 36 weeks and they may schedule an open evening for homebirthing couples to attend but they didn't have one planned for September! So that's all good. My only hurdle now is to convince the doctors - firstly there were the rhesus antibodies, which have now disappeared and now there is "borderline" polyhydramnios for which I have another scan tomorrow. Oh, and my iron is low so I've agreed to take tablets, which are having the usual undesired effects...

Am also waiting for a Strep B result but think I'm going to do the private one at 37 weeks anyway. Don't want them to have any excuses to get me into hospital!

Hope everyone is having a lovely relaxing sunday. Just about to put on the 4th load of washing and DP has hung the tent out of the window to dry!

Sassafrass · 10/08/2008 17:31

I really like the cheap changing mats from ikea. They have inflatable sides to make it harder for baby to roll off. I found it best with dd1 to just put a towel on top as you have to change it quite often anyway. Or, Ikea has special covers you can buy.

I've had a cleaning frenzy today, I think my brain has finally realised that I'm having the baby in a week and the house had better be decent by then.

bogie · 10/08/2008 17:32

Kasha your ds is gorgeous glad that you have finally got him home Gin

digitalgirl · 10/08/2008 17:50

kasha lovely to hear from you and see a picture of your beautiful little Felix. He looks absolutely perfect!

jenny sounds like you deserve a rest. why not DH do the 4 loads of washing?

welcome mellabella I'm due on 23rd, so two days after you.

pacita at my NCT class they said to bring whatever snacks you like...anything that comforts you through the ordeal is a good idea. whether that's chocolate, ice-cream or a crisp juicy apple. (I'll be packing ice-cream in a cooler bag).

biglips my baby has active days and sleepy days. sometimes it just won't stop wriggling, kicking and generally reminding me of it's ever-growing presence. other days i worry that I haven't felt much movement - but then I get a little reassuring squirm. Olympic acrobatics normally resume the next day.

We went to SILs wedding yesterday, I blubbed at the soppy Aerosmith track they chose as the processional music. I stupidly didn't think to bring a warm jacket and spent quite a bit of time shivering in the cold rain while we waited outside the regsitry office. I did manage to customise my sandals, extending the strap with a bit of ribbon that matched my dress so that DH could tie them up. Then ate as much my stomach would allow in sausages rolls, quiche and bread.

Went to visit FIL in the evening, who looks as though he's doing well. No longer jaundiced and in good spirits. Still haven't a clue what's wrong with him...but if he's looking and feeling better then that;s a good enough sign for us.

DH is now getting on with all those pesky little DIY jobs that have been hanging over us. Hopefully he'll hang the new blind in the nursery and maybe even assemble the cot.

Am so tired today. Have had a lie-in and a 2 hour nap. Still need to get a lightweight dressing gown for my hospital bag. Think I saw one on the mothercare website...anyone have any other recommendations?

biglips · 10/08/2008 18:17

Digital - there is a light weight white dressing down in Asda and its cotton too as those hospitals are like boilers!!
