Sassafrass · 08/08/2008 17:47

I'm feeling rather annoyed now. I called the maternity allowance department on monday to ask about my claim and was told they were still doing ones from may. I explained that I had stopped working end of june and we were now on benefits with no money coming in so the advisor promised to bump my claim to get looked at quicker. So far so good, he was true to his word and I got a letter today saying it had been processed, but only backdated to 30th of july, so a whole month less. I called up and the advisor had written down that I had stopped working 29th of july, not june, so I won't get it backdated. To change it they would have to start over and it would take several weeks and we can't afford to wait. On the other hand, I was really counting on that money since we've gone without all of july =(. I feel really upset about it as it wasn't my fault that they wrote down the wrong dates. Pretty impressed by how fast they can process a claim if you put some pressure on them though.

lollipopmother · 08/08/2008 17:55

That is the most ridiculous thing I think I've heard in a long time Sass, they should pay you now and back date it to the correct date, what idiot came up with that idea?

mustsleep · 08/08/2008 17:55

sassafrass where do you get the number for ma from am still waiting to hear about mine too

Sassafrass · 08/08/2008 18:13

Try this number Mustsleep, 0845 6088769

Lollipopmother, I agree that it's ridiculous. I just wasn't up for arguing about it and I really couldn't do the whole submitting a new form and what not. I'm having the baby in less than two weeks for goodness sakes. I feel a bit better for ranting about it though =)

potxola · 08/08/2008 18:40

Bogie I am sorry about the bad news. Take it easy andtake care.

jearund · 08/08/2008 18:51

Sassafras does this mean you lose a month's MA or just that you get it for a month longer at the other end?

Sassafrass · 08/08/2008 19:17

I'll get it for a month longer so I don't lose any money. I could just have done with it right now.

mustsleep · 08/08/2008 19:18

thanks sassafrass i have posted it to the right place haven;t i?
i posted it to the local job centre plus like it said to on the notes
god i am really worried now

you should write them a stroppy letter explaining exactly what has happened and say that you are copying to your mp or something like that

barnpot · 08/08/2008 19:28

I'm having an aaaaaarrrrrrrggggghhhhh day

MelT76 · 08/08/2008 19:32

Mustsleep I posted mine to the local jobcentre plus and rang them direct to chase it. Got the number off the website.

carrieon · 08/08/2008 19:39

I'm hiding indoors while dh and his friend light the new BBQ! The neighbour has herded her kids indoors and shut all the windows too . Ah well, the steak he plans to cook on it looks yummy. I've put myself in charge of salad!

Well i'm off on holiday tomorrow (can't believe some of you are having your babies so soon, I'm only 33 weeks tomorrow and dd was born at 40 so I'm fairly sure I've got a while to go). But I know you'll have lots of births and start a new thread while I'm gone. Can anyone recommend an internet cafe in Norfolk?! I can't miss out on the news!

Have a lovely week ladies and look after yourselves

mustsleep · 08/08/2008 19:46

thanks mel will give that a try monday if still nothing in post

Sassafrass · 08/08/2008 20:06

Mustsleep, you do post it to the local jobcentre plus and they then send it on. When I called my local jobcentre though to chase it they said they didn't handle it. The number I gave you is for the one that only does maternity allowance claims. Might be worth calling your local jobcentre anyway and see what number they give you.

pacita · 08/08/2008 20:44

Hello ladies,

long time no post because it's been a very busy week. I can't believe I've got till the end of August at work before I can go on maternity leave and put my feet up! My current paranoia is that working too much might bring the baby early - and apart from wanting him to be fighting fit... I selfishly need some time off before he arrives!

I've just been through 4 pages worth of posts, ups and downs and real tragedies- so sorry Bogie.

Really really appreciate all the tips and info going, as I don't have a buggy, car seat or hospital bag sorted yet!

Have a great weekend, everybody!

DebitheScot · 08/08/2008 20:56

Feeling very pleased with myself as I have started packing my hospital bag. Its not totally done but the most important things are in- couple of babygros and vests, handful of nappies and snacks! Plus a few other things.

Also quite happy as have been offered a double buggy on long term loan. Its a Mclaren so folds up smallish which is good as we don't have a lot of space at all. We were going to try and do without one but if someone is happy to loan us it for free I figured we might as well use it.

eandz · 08/08/2008 21:09

this year for christmas we're making our own ornaments and stockings.

i think we're gonna skip on presents this year and just focus on our first family christmas dinner! (I am soo excited about our first ginger bread house) and posing the baby on a platter next to the turkey.

pacita · 08/08/2008 21:16

Re: hospital snacks, what's a good thing to have? Fruit? Chocolate?

mustsleep · 09/08/2008 09:54

eandz i wanted to do that last year a ginger bread house!

might have to give it a miss this yar though as we are havoing the family round here for xmas so that will be me cooking for 11 of us and i don;t normally graduated beyond the odd microwave meal!!

thanks sassafrass i will call them both up on monday i'm sure that it wont be done yet as i only sent it off three weeks ago but would like to make sure that they have actually forwarded it on as after agust pay day that's it! and we def can;t afford to be without

Morning all

Have a fab holiday carrieon.
Dont forget the carton drinks too Pacita

I have started to make my birth announcement cards . I plan to adress and stamp the envelopes so when the bub comes I just need to add the stastistics weight, height, date, time, oh and a photo. I remember getting very stressed getting the cards out last time.

I think my bump has definately dropped over the last 24 hrs. It is no longer propping my boobs up! I did not think this happened with number 2. Anyone else noticed this?

Have a fab weekend girls x
