Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TwilightSurfer · 26/07/2008 15:03

Seems I'm missing some INDUCTIONS. VG I just updated yours on the list. Bealcain are you set for one if you don't pop soon? I be having one is a short while if I don't go naturally but don't have a date yet.

I've just had some SERIOUS sleep. Still feel like a MAC truck hit me but can't do much about that immediately. Just inhaled a bowl of beans and rice too. I guess I was hungry.

Trying to come up with a cute meditation chant to get this baby moving on out. Any ideas????

TwilightSurfer · 26/07/2008 15:04

I'LL be having one...not I be having (goodness)

longwayfromhome · 26/07/2008 15:12

Went out for a curry last night with DH. Argentina is NOT a good place for spicy food. The curry house was very, very cool (DH was in his sports jacket, and so fitted in very well) with low tables, uncomfortable chairs and incense. On the plus side, although the food was not at all spicey, we get to try a different one next week and they had non-alcoholic beer.

CaptainCaveman · 26/07/2008 15:18

Bless you ts you seem to have been contracting forever? Praying mini surfer cracks on with it!

I've been out and mown the lawn in attempt to jiggle this baby along a bit. All's it got me was knackered, hot and sweaty. Just told 'Jerry' that he's had quite long enough to ccok now and he really should be coming out TODAY please.

Ds has gone to grannie and grandads for the night so dh and I are going to the cinema to watch "Journey to the centre of the Earth". Will take my mind off being pg for 90 mins anyway!

Wonder how albs is getting on with little Henry? And ilana with little Saul . Awww, can't wait to have this little one in my arms

CaptainCaveman · 26/07/2008 15:21

ccok? Obv I meant cook. Losing the ability to spell too huh?

bealcain · 26/07/2008 15:26

TS not got offical date yet, altohugh it should be beginning next week if not this w/end. having major contractions, feeling sick and emptying of bowels all morning. Really feeling it for tonight as both boys were born on sundays!! >> i'm totally ready. seriously hormonal today

bealcain · 26/07/2008 15:26

looks like i'm joing the ranks of those that can't spell

ChaCha · 26/07/2008 15:34

Hi ladies,

No babies today then? Was hoping there would be some good weekend news. Anyone know SE forecast for next week, don't think i could bear this heat in the hospital, so hoping it won't be hot.

Good day so far but am now exhausted, took DC to nearby place where there are lovely views of the city and they ran around up there and had fun with DH while i read magazine, ate, drank and sat in shade. Am only exhausted from the heat and getting in and out of car etc...
Have amazing thirst today too - shloer seems to be good alternative to usual fizzy crap.

How is PF today? And everyone else?
Think i want to go and sit in the DC's paddling pool but would not get back out i think. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday left to go....I can do it!!!!!! But please rain dance anyone?

miamla · 26/07/2008 17:10

bohemiam lol, re testing your DH. i did that to DP last week and he passed with flying colours! And yeah, I'm with you on the wiping thing!

TS hmm not sure i'm sliding towards the homeplate just yet. i reckon i've got as far as picking up my bat and i'm ready waiting for my turn! so no need to be just yet!

VG i read out your suggestion to her and she laughed! feel free to throw any questions my way though and i'll pass them on for you. and you never know, dark knight might just be the induction technique that gets things moving for you!

bealcain why wouldn't your midwife do an internal? how are you doing now? i'm sure you're allowed to take your own in a cool bag and even if you're not officially allowed, I'd like to see them try and take something off you that is obviously helping

report on me...had a few sharp pains on lower front of bump. stomach really really hard and i'm 3/5 engaged
think we're off for another walk soon!

TwilightSurfer · 26/07/2008 18:53

Found this to help me...it might help a few others here:

The engagement or 'station' is usually measured in '5ths' and is based on the fact that the width of an adult hand is about the size of a term baby's head. When recording engagement on your pregnancy records, usually the amount of the baby's head that is felt by the caregiver's hand is measured and written down, providing a guide as to how much of the baby's head is engaged in the pelvis. As a guide:

If 5 finger widths of your baby's head is felt, it is written as 5/5 palpable or 'unengaged'.
If 4 finger widths of your baby's head is felt, it is written as '4/5' palpable or 1/5 engaged.
If 3 finger widths of your baby's head is felt, it is written as '3/5' palpable or 2/5 engaged.
If 2 finger widths of your baby's head is felt, it is written as '2/5' palpable or 3/5 engaged.
If 1 finger width of your baby's head is felt, it is written as '1/5' palpable or 4/5 engaged.
If your baby's head cannot be felt it is written as 'fully engaged' or 'not palpable'.

TwilightSurfer · 26/07/2008 18:56

Somebody help me out here as now I think I'm more confused. In my mind the more the baby is engaged the more of the head the caregiver should be able to feel if feeling from the exit IYKWIM. So somebody tell me why the numbers here appear to be the opposite of that. Are they feeling for the head in another place?

Miamla...according to that chart you're doing awesome!!

TwilightSurfer · 26/07/2008 19:01

I think I just found my answer:

"As part of assessing women and babies during pregnancy we locate the position of the baby's head in the pelvis. This is done in what we call finger breaths of fiths. The midwife or Ob will feel/put their fingers/hand right in the pelvis under your belly and try and feel the baby's head. We measure this from 5-1 (fiths). Meaning that a baby at 1/5th is basically at the pelvis outlet and then as the babies head lowers, so do the numbers. Which become 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. So being 3/5ths would mean that yes your baby's head is in the right place and still has a bit more to go until he/she is what we called fully engaged meaning completely fixed inside the pelvis at its lower point and immobile."

??

TwilightSurfer · 26/07/2008 19:03

Could that be any more confusing???????

AnnVan · 26/07/2008 22:23

Hi all, well have got home from watching the Dark Knight I felt so hot I was melting by the time we got there and the staff wouldn't even give a pg lady a cup of ice!
Anyway, loved the aircon in the cinema, I felt comfortable for the first time in DAYS - turned out everyone else was freezing! I was the only one who wasn't!

dizzydixies · 26/07/2008 22:55

anyone still struggling with a birthplan?

this one has ALL eventualities just cross out/highlight/ignore/drop jaw at as appropriate

hope it helps - I haven't done mine

everyeventuality birth plan

gigglegirl · 26/07/2008 23:30

hello all,

I'm still here - just. Finding it hard to cope at the mo. getting quite teary at times and at others in total denial that in 5 days my 4th child will be here! House still in a state - DH there now painting - although w/ cans of carling so who knows how good it will be nervous about recovery from section. saw the in-laws today which was actually ok for once! about 30 for bbq. Shattered now but pain and heat too much to sleep.

dizzy was so sorry to hear of your loss. xxx

Expectant · 27/07/2008 01:48

Morning

Giggle hope you manage to get some rest today and feeling for you all in the heat - at least TS and I have the luxury of aircon. It actually hasn't been ridiculously hot here the past week or so and we seem to have had a fair bit of rain.

Dizzy - I still haven't written one but was a little more concerned when when the midwife at the antenatal class said that some of the doctors require their ladies to be a)shaved and b)have an enema before delivery - is this in any way normal? Naive first timer here!

TS - thanks for the explanation

Ann-glad you enjoyed the film

sarahnh · 27/07/2008 08:03

Morning.. seems i am first on, so i've got pots of coffe, builder's brew and rlt ... of course with crossiants, hot buttery toast and crumpets!!!

Well i am definitely still here.. had horrible pains on and off all day but nothing brewing again.. my body feels like it is going to explode with the water retention and i am such a moody cow i keep shouting at my poor dh and dd...

so i am asking for extra special vibes for either everything to stop today so i can be nice to my family or everything gets going properly so our lo can come and sort me out xxx

PetitFilou1 · 27/07/2008 08:14

Morning Sarah (and Expectant)
Still no more babies then - I thought a couple might have popped yesterday. for Sarah

Chacha Thanks for asking after me. I'm fine - dh let me have a (very rare) lie in yesterday and took the strain for most of the day. I am really being to struggle now - went to a lovely National Trust place yesterday and I can only walk for about 10 minutes before needing to sit down - especially in this heat. Am sure you all feel the same.

We have my SIL's little baby here today - 5 1/2 months - he is very sweet. I woke up this morning to the sound of the Tiny Love musical mobile (if you've never had one they are great) which reminded me of what is about to come.

Barbecue planned for later with the neighbours, I don't intend to leave the house much today.

OP posts:
PetitFilou1 · 27/07/2008 08:16

Expectant btw are you abroad somewhere? I've forgotten and too lazy to look at the list! They stopped doing routine enemas here a loooong time ago.

OP posts:
FoghornLeghorn · 27/07/2008 08:23

Morning all

Sarah - good luck vibes for you
Petitfilou - Hope you enjoy your BBQ and get the chance to relax a bit
Bealcain - Any update ? Really feel for you

Well we for a long shopping trip yesterday, walked solidly for about 3 hours and then to BIL's for a BBQ. Kids ran riot, totally flaked when we got home at 9pm so thought I'd have a great night but DD2 woke up at 11:45 and created til about 1:30, then I woke up at 2 with horrendous heartburn. What with that and the heat, have had an awfl nights sleep but DH let me have a lie in yesterday so am letting him lie in this morning

poppysocks · 27/07/2008 09:16

Morning ladies. Is that coffee on the go? Boy, do I need some. Shattered today. Had a horrendous end to yesterday with DD and thought that with a decent night's sleep I'd be able to be enthusiastic again with her today. Instead she was up at 6 and I'm afraid my mood is terrible. Feel so guilty - partic. as I'm aware we're on countdown as far as days left to concentrate on her are concerned.

Still reeling from yesterday's tantrums to be honest. Tried to post here a couple of times to get it off my chest, but deleted each time as it seemed so superficial in comparison to what some people are going through, but it's really got to me. DH away for the weekend at our friends' wedding which doesn't help.

Anyway, am sure a decent coffee will help to wake me up at least.

Sorry for such a self-indulgent post. Sorry you're feeling so rubbish gg and sarah. Fingers crossed for some change - one way or the other for you sarah. By the way, no birth plan at all here for either c-section or spontaneous labour. Denial combined with no-one ever having looked at it last time do not enthusiasm make!

VintageGardenia · 27/07/2008 09:24

AnnVan we saw the Dark Knight yesterday too, but the cinema was absolutely roasting! It was a bit too graphically violent for me [wuss emoticon] and I'm VERY glad DS didn't come - well it's 15s here anyway. Christian Bale is absolutely gorgeous though, must admit.

pf glad to hear your DH stepped into the breach when needed. I'm not surprised you were shattered after day out, even doing the smallest thing leaves me exhausted, I have to call over to a friend for a cup of tea today and I am already gearing myself up to it! Ridiculous. And the outing days I've done with DS are incredibly tiring.

I'm supposed to be on bedrest from now till Wed when I go back to doc but when does that ever happen?

Foghorn you must be wrecked, can you get a nap in later by sending everyone to the park or something and burrowing back into bed?

miamla yes please to passing on questions to your resident midwife, could you please ask her if my baby will be born before Thursday? Many thanks.

Expectant no enemas or shaving here in Ireland. Well, shaving for CS. But surely if "some doctors" require it in Sing. they should tell you in advance if they are part of the "some"! Ask at your next appt because you may prefer to be prepared yourself than to submit to the hospital's prowess with disposable razor etc. Actually this reminds me of a certain crop circles post, back in the days when we were concerned about how we looked ... hmm now who was that... someone beginning with m??? Or am I wrong?

VintageGardenia · 27/07/2008 09:27

Hi poppy, you weren't there before I posted!

No birth plan here either. Actually I think I probably won't do one. It would be very short anyway. Things like cutting cord before stops pulsating, skin to skin asap, etc are standard in the hos I'm going to, and my other stuff re. pain relief etc is in DP's hands.

Sausageandmash · 27/07/2008 09:27

Poppysocks, lol re: denial. I am exactly the same, although am meant to be going for appt next week to check breech position, so elective c-sec might be a goe, and I might actually know something soon!

Ilana - so glad that Saul is progressing so well and hope you've got to transitional care by now ( re: UCLH - that's where I'm heading - hope all is back to normal now - sounds very scary at the time).

My bump was doing extraordinary things last night = no sleep but potentially wiggled into a head down position maybe?!

But I'mm 36 weeks today so only 1 more week and I can join you 'term' ladies. Which is lovely on one hand, but on the other hand I'm one step closer to b-day. La-la-la-la-la - that's me sticking my fingers in my ears and heading back to poppysocks denial mode!

If I don't get a chance to post, non-puffy and comfortable yet engaging thoughts to all of you, especially those feeling v puffy and very uncomfortable.
