rrrayray · 02/09/2008 15:56

chocsolot i think i maybe having a growth spurt too, not only the sleepless nights, but waking up early absolutely STARVING!!!

Chocsolot · 02/09/2008 17:51

Ditto.... have devoured a bag of chocolate eclairs this afternoon... now that can't be good, and bump is ever growing

qumps · 02/09/2008 19:03

first time round at first i said my baby is having new stuff and screw the cost. but then dh stepmum offered us all the stuff his half bro had (he is now 5). after being sceptical was amazed that it was all in such good condition. newborns don't really wreck anything and other than a bit of milk sick (sorry forget the propper word posset?!) there is not much they can do to things (unlike a 15 mo who can destroy a room in 5 seconds). anyway point is take as much freebies/loans as you can. loads of stuff is pointless and happy to advise but if you are like me won't listen and will buy it all anyway. happy to though! nct nearly new sales are brilliant but get there early.
going out to dinner tonight so at least not sat in thinking about tomorrow. so tired though that think my chat may be rubbish!

qumps · 02/09/2008 19:05

sorry forgot to say monumental news.
da da da da! ds walked today!!! apparently he did it at nursery yesterday but not counting that as i didn't see but he took at least 3 steps unaided. very proud mummy

chefswife · 02/09/2008 19:15

hey qumps sorry to hear about your scan showing some blips to your bean. i know its easier said then done but try not to stress too much. although, without any chocolate, that could be tricky.

so babyshowers are a north american thing. well, i didn't know that. usually the mother sets up a baby registry, like you would for a wedding, and the host lets the guests know what shops and gifts are bought to ensure that you don't get a bunch of crap newborn outfits or too many of the same thing. it is pretty much the same as with a stagette party minus the booze and male strippers.

sorry to tell everyone, but i have been sleeping great! finally! i eat a couple of digestives with a peppermint tea before going to bed and do some light yoga too. its helping. i still get up to pee but am having no problem going back to sleep even. i'm clinging on to this sleep right now because i'm sure it will be lacking severely in the new year.

good luck all getting those kids off to school.

chefswife · 02/09/2008 19:16

wow on the walking!!!! that must be incredible thing to witness!

rrrayray · 02/09/2008 19:23

Anyone else getting REALLY thirsty recently too? i feel like i'm grabbing a glass of something to drink every 10 mins........

MissHairspray · 02/09/2008 19:24

chefswife you sound so healthy you put me to shame, last night I had a roast dinner at 8 and then had to get out of bed at midnight to scoff a bowl of pasta and a bar of chocolate that was supposed to be for DH. I think some of the positions I have been twisting myself in to try and get to sleep might almost be classed as yogic though

qumps congrats on the walking and hope everything goes OK tomorrow.

Also, is anyone planning on getting a proper maternity coat for winter? I need something smart and saw one on blooming marvellous which was lovely but couldn't work out from the pic whether it would still fit after the baby comes and £80 seems a bit steep for 3 months wear.

rrrayray · 02/09/2008 19:27

misshairspray i'm going to have to get one for winter to watch OH play football. 90 mins outside, even popping inside at half time is Freeezing!

There are some beautiful ones on isabelle oliver, i also saw a nice one on blooming marvellous. However, i think i'm going to get one from zara. Most of the designs at the moment, the buttons stop at what will be the top of my bump.... and the fabric wraps accross. so as my bump expands, it wont be exposed. There are some in a beautiful Dark Dusty Pink Colour!!!! Plus i think the one i saw was about £69, much cheaper than both b.marvellous and Isabelle Oliver.

fourlittlefeet · 02/09/2008 20:05

Lenni congrats on your blue one. Qumps congrats on the walking, what clever baby!

need to go and catch up from last week but feel like curling up with hot choc and crashing. got a kidney scan on thurs to check for pre-eclampsia possibility followed by 21 wk scan on friday, complete with placenta scan. quite a week. also taking pre-eclampsia avoiding aspirin, so fingers crossed that I'm not unlucky enough to get the bugger twice!

missjackson · 03/09/2008 00:04

Hi everyone,

Had my scan yesterday which was lovely she said straight away that she could see what sex it is, but we stuck to our word and didn't find out but don't you think if she knew straight away, it must be a boy?! That's my theory anyway.

The baby did have a 'echogenic focus' in the heart, which apparently by itself doesn't mean anything, but is one of the markers for Downs -- that's obviously a bit scary to hear although the doctor said it didn't affect our risk at all. She said about 4-5% of fetuses have it (doesn't sound that much to me), and that it only counts if it is seen with other markers like the nasal bone. Anyway, I've decided to trust her opinion for once, and not worry.

The pictures are very cute.

Good luck tomorrow qumps, will be thinking of you.

moosemama · 03/09/2008 09:18

Phew! Just back from school run, just wanted to say good luck for today qumps, hope everything goes well.

(and congratulations on the walking - such a fantastic milestone!

tinkhashadherfirstkick · 03/09/2008 11:36

dd went into nursery well we are picking her up in 10 mins

good luck qumps for today and great news on the walking how clever

miss j great news on your scan

miss h i have just bought a normal coat in sainsburys for £25 a size 20 to accomodate bump

qumps · 03/09/2008 14:23

back from scan and seemed fairly positive. basically no other problems and while they can't rule out any disorders entirely there are no other indicators. did offer us amneocentisis but as we wouldn't abort anyway we can wait until 32 weeks if we want to have one when less risk to baby. will also have another scan at 28 weeks and obsetrician appointment on monday. so although not an all clear and still means i will worry all way through at least no definite problems.
rrrayray always thirsty too which in turn leads to more wee stops. have a rugby playing dh and was wondering about coat so thanks for advice. last pregnancy was a summer one so clothes all wrong.
missjackson thats one of the things that bump has and they said that on its own is nothing to worry about. something about a thickening of the muscle which lots of people have and is usually quite normal. good description on wikepidia if you want to know more.

tinkhashadherfirstkick · 03/09/2008 15:27

glad all went well qumps

missjackson · 03/09/2008 16:17

thanks for the wikipedia tip qumps, glad your scan went as well as it could, and at least nothing else came up. I guess your only challenge now is to try not to worry, since you wouldn't terminate anyway.

I'm sure women 20 years ago didn't worry anything like as much as we did without all this information!

Had to buy a new bikini at bravissimo for my week in Spain next week I tried my old one on and it was just a joke, barely covered my nipples! Look a bit shocking in my new bikini very white after a summer spent working indoors, and big blue veins everywhere, mmmm not exactly feeling at my most attractive. Especially weird since this is the first beach holiday I've ever had with OH -- we've barely been together a year, and have only had ski trips together. I guess it's too late to start feeling self-conscious in front of him now!

Periwink · 03/09/2008 19:21

Hi ladies

I have been away and trying to catch upon the posts. My bump has well and truly popped out and am getting bigger by the week! Relived to hear I am not the only ine stuggling to sleep - I hate having to sleep on my side and usually wake up int he middle of the night lying on my tummy with awful cramps, so I am going to try one of those support pillows from Mothercare - hopefully I will find some time to pick one up tomorrow. I am having to practise such willpower on the eating front! My jeans that were fitting me last week no longer fit me this week - so I have had to buy a pair of maternity jeans which are great. Also I bought a few pairs of maternity tights from
www.mytights.com - they are 60 denier which is so difficult to find for us preggy ladies - I will let you all know how good they are, should hopefully receive them in a couple of days time.

Missjackson - give yourself a boost and have a pedicure done before you go away!

Chocsolot - craving those chocolate eclairs right now!!!! Luckily the corner shop is closed.

Spink · 03/09/2008 19:29

Evening!
qumps - really pleased to hear news from your scan was positive, you seem to have a brilliant attitude about it all but I know it must be worrying - big squeeze to you. and YAY for the walking!! ds started walking in May and I can't remember what it was like when he didn't, now.. Not sure I'm looking forward to running though!!

LenniEd - I would love to swap clothes, if we had any left!! most of ds's 'boy' newborn stuff just got worn out by him, and we're keeping a few bits because I'm too nostalgic for my own good.. We've got a bit of stuff to swap from 9 months+ though??

missjackson white and blue veined or not, I am at your holiday. Please give detailed accounts of it so I can live though you... ah, the feeling of warm sunshine on skin, soft sand underfoot, balmy evenings......
I am weeping. Maybe in 5 years or so

qumps · 03/09/2008 19:35

thanks for all the good wishes.
missjackson i suggest a spray before you go as everything always looks better with a tan! if he's anything like mine am sure hubbie will be delighted with the puppies and not notice anything else!!!!

LooseyC · 03/09/2008 21:02

Hello all and glad to hear that the latest news sounds better qumps and that you get another scan too.

Had my scan yesterday and it's a BOY! Good news as far as I'm concerned as have all boy stuff from DS which we haven't even put in the loft yet as he is just 8 months. I'm hoping they will play together in future being so close in age but maybe others can tell me differently?!

missjackson I had to buy a new swimming costume for my holiday too - South of France next week with the in-laws to do all the babysitting - yey! I decided to buy a non-maternity tankini in the sale which is all well and good but I had to get a size 14 ( I used to be 8-10 1 year and a half ago ) and due to my very modest bust size now realise I will have to hold the top bit in place to avoid embarassing gaping! The swimming pool is going to be fun while trying to control a baby as well!

I sympathise with all the sleeping problems too. I wake up several times a night to drink water as I am SO thirsty, and then again afterwards to go to the loo. It's not fair is it?

missjackson · 03/09/2008 22:41

Ooh yes, like the pedicure idea, will book it along with the bikini wax! I've had a couple of spray tans in the past, and unfortunately because I am so pale, the moment they start to fade I look like I have some awful skin disease because of the patches!

tinkhasanactivebean · 04/09/2008 09:02

morning

think i must be the only one who wanted to find out the sex and they couldnt tell.
theres always one.
so glad we have 3-d scan booked is in 4 wks time.

qumps · 04/09/2008 09:28

looseyc congrats on the boy. i feel the same that with a small gap is nice for them to both be boys. also i am hoping for rough and tumble time with dh and lots of pamper time for mummy..... well i can dream!
can anyone recommend a good book on coping with 2 under 2? i know there are some out there but can't seem to find any on amazon etc.
less holiday chat when just back at work and weather is pants. its not fair

witchandchips · 04/09/2008 09:34

we had scan this week, clearly a girl. I asked if this was due to the absense of a penis and the sonographer said no "the presence of labial folds" she then showed them to us double

rrrayray · 04/09/2008 09:34

Awww poor you tink. Thank goodness you have the 3D back up plan!!

I still have 2 weeks until my scan, as its being done late, i think because its a small maternity unit and they only scan on tuesdays!!!

LooseyC- i had no idea your two were going to be so close together. being a first timer i cant lend first hand advice, but one of OH friends with 3 boys each which 13 months between them says its great. They go through things together, and are very close. of course all siblings squabble.... but it seems to have worked with them!!

I'm sooooooooooooo thirsty, slept a LITTLE better last night, but my Skin is a nightmare at the moment! i'm spotty central, despite always having dry skin to date, i now have VERY oily spotty skin!

missjackson i too am very fair, and any kind of spray tan does the mr blobby effect on me too after a while. the only thing i've ever found to rEALLY work is fake bake. its gradual, so if you wanted a dark tan you'd apply it a few nights in a row. if you just want to take the bright white edge off (what i usually use it for) its top!!!! it never goes orange due something in it & is also safe for use in pregnancy You can buy it online, in a fake bake salon.... or i think some larger debenhams stores stock it!!!! Oh, and it washes out of bedsheets (there is a colour guide so you know where your putting it, and that tends to come off a little on bedsheets as best to apply at night and leave to develop!)
