Evening everyone! Feel really uncomfortable - bean is having a growth sput plus is kicking round my bikini line like mad...

fourlittlefeet · 16/09/2008 20:22

miss jackson, just to add my tuppence to the itchy rash debate, I had something similar a couple of years ago, thought it was scabies as it was so odd and so itchy . turned out to be an alergy to some soap someone had brought me back from hols. I had it again when I joined a new gym and used their free shower gel, so do check all your products too; they may not cause it but definitely could aggravate... hope you get it sorted as it is absolute hell. also not sure if anyone has mentioned calamine...

Kittenpaws · 16/09/2008 20:25

Hi everyone - can't believe how organised you are about Xmas already - we have a whole cluster of family birthdays to do first including DDs 5th - shes already talking about what sort of party she wants so I guess I better book something soon.

Tired and hungry today - think baby is having a growth spurt - well that was my justification for cake this afternoon!

rrrayray · 16/09/2008 20:26

Now that my sickness is a distant memory (although a miserable one) i'm starting to feel rather lucky that i don't seem to be having any grumbles apart from feeling a bit bloated and having a spotty back!! You poor ladies - hope you all feel better soon!! hugs

I am in Awe of you all being so organised with your christmas shopping. I supose you have to be for those of you who already have children. I have always spoilt other half rotten at Christmas (As he does for me- i swear its turned into an unspoken competition) so this will be the last christmas of that, as we both know who we'll be spoiling next christmas Although i'm sure Bean will recieve a few presents even though hopefully still in Tummy by then!!!
That said, i have NO idea what i'm going to get him. I think i've exhusted most ideas.

Just an idea perhaps for some of you others that OH LOVED last year, i got him a photo put onto Canvas. a company called photostuff direct (i cant be sure of website, but google them should work) The quality of the canvas was fantastic, not to mention the speed at which they did it. Also, When it arrived (i'd already got him one in sepia from them previously) it wasn't quite the same shades in it, and as they were going to go next to eachother i queried why this was so. They re-did the canvas for free and STILL managed to get it to me in time for Christmas! .........With such a unique present (he was actually in Awe with Mouth open for about 10 mins!!) i have no idea what to get him this year!!

Am mooching on internet looking for maternity clothing (unsucessfully, all SO ugly)as OH is subjecting me to Champions Leauge Football- Groooooooooooan!

looweeza · 16/09/2008 20:37

presents for oh; i've told mine that this year i'm giving him 'a baby' - which he couldn't really argue with!

seriously, we'll be in a new home, so will buy something that we both love for it.

on second thoughts, i AM giving him a baby, he really should give me something very nice in return!

fourlittlefeet · 16/09/2008 21:16

one other thing for everyone. I had a reflexology session today and mentioned my forgetfulness. The lady said nappy brain was made worse by not getting your omega 3,6 & 9. can't face flax seeds but am happy to have toasted sunflower and pumpkin on salads and pasta and eat occasional herrings, mackerel and sardines! I used to have that oil but it was vile.

fourlittlefeet · 16/09/2008 21:36

stripy, haven't tried a hotsling - what is it? I have three; wilkinet, peerie and hug-a-bub, all good for different times/ages but LOVE my hug-a-bub. Not as stretchy as the Kari me so you don't have to do it up so tight, super comfortable; I used it until DD was 14 months old and digging into my growing bump! Only drawback is getting past the fear of how to tie it.

stripeywoollenhat · 16/09/2008 21:44

flf - here's a site that sells them:
www.naturalchild.co.uk/acatalog/Hotslings_Pouches.html

not really sure what to get but really do like the idea of a sling.

chefswife · 16/09/2008 23:39

dh totally ratted me out to the midwife today, telling her i haven't been exercising the last few weeks... probably closer to a month. the stationary bike bit the bullet. i couldn't believe how brazen he was. she nicely told me that i should at least walk an hour a day to keep my pelvis limber as this will help in delivery. it not like i've been sitting on my duff. i'm on my at least 8 hours a day in the studio. it was all in fun though, not being spiteful or mean. i do know that i need to get back at it because it feels better and i will get back into shape quicker after Violet comes. it was just rather funny.

had my birthday dinner last night and was so nice to get everyone together out, on a monday night even. we ate and ate and ate. i had a glass of Prosecco as well which was refreshing and delicious.

well, i have nothing else to say at the moment... maybe i just take a nap.

chefswife · 16/09/2008 23:40

feet... i'm on my feet at least 8 hours... yeah i need a nap.

elkiedee · 16/09/2008 23:57

Popping in to say hi all, any good ideas for the next thread title?

tinkhasanactivebean · 17/09/2008 08:40

morning

just popping on before dropping dd @ nursery then off to do food shop

rrrayray · 17/09/2008 08:47

Morning ladies.

i am shortly off to get my forest legs De-fuzzed! Woooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

fourlittlefeet · 17/09/2008 08:48

stripy - its a pouch sling which means its easy to get on and baby in and out of (and good for a spot of private breastfeeding). I would say though that it isn't good for when they get a bit heavier as you don't get a lot of back support.

Hi Elkie. am having a think!

fourlittlefeet · 17/09/2008 08:50

Ever expanding circles (and bums)?

Morning ladies

Ooooh talking of slings/carriers, can anyone recommend a good one for the baby? DS2 will have just turned 2 when baby is born, and although he is mostly out of the buggy, he is also sometimes still in it, I really don't want a double buggy, so thought for on the days we pop into town or whatever and DS2 want's the buggy I could put the baby in the sling, only I have no idea about them. Ideally I'd like something that will keep the baby dry and warm, and something that doesn't take 6 people and/or 4 hours to put on! And something that is comfy enough for a couple of hours use. Is finding the right sling as complicated as finding the right pram?

Not sure what to get DH this year, I was thinking maybe some tickets to watch Bolton play, after being a season ticket holder for years and barely ever missing a match, he hasn't been to a single match for years! DS1 will be coming up to 7yo at xmas time so thought they could both go. Don't know if it is a bit of a cop out pressie though? And DS1 isn't interested in football at all, but maybe he will be if they were there together?

Chefswife, was it your birthday yesterday? Happy birthday!

Booksgalore, I hope the sickness bugs are all better now, and glad the scan went so well

Those of you with sore hips, I feel your pain! Mine have been on and off since 12 weeks, getting gradually worse, but have woken up this morning (after a horrendous nights sleep thanks to the contractions again grrrrr) with one hip so out of line with the other, I feel like I am literally dragging one leg behind the other because I just can't lift it off the ground and owwwwww!

fymandbean · 17/09/2008 10:08

I'm going to get DS a buggy board - much better I find than a sling for the baby! Mind you my DS was on the big side at birth (9.2)(and stayed in the 98th percentile) it does make a difference!

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 17/09/2008 10:28

I thought of a buggy board but I really don't think DS2 would stay on it, not even for a nano second! Also thought of those buggy pod things but then it makes the buggy as big as a double which I just can't do.

DS2 was 8lb 10, much bigger than DS1 at 7lb 15, so am preparing myself for a heavy weight this time! Having said that, if bump size is anything to go off I am tiny compared to last time so maybe I'll get a tiddler afterall

missjackson · 17/09/2008 11:50

Did anyone hear the feeding on demand debate piece on Women's Hour this morning? Interesting. I was listening on my way to hospital to get blood tests done for this RASH -- but Doc thinks it is just plain old pregnancy rash. He's letting me have Piriton though which hopefully will help although I feel a bit bad about taking it because I am sure it is not the best thing for the baby... but no worse than having his Mama tear her hair out with the itching!

I am def going to buy a sling so thanks for those links. Is anyone else considering one of those co-sleeper boxes that sit next to your pillow? My friend advocates co-sleeping but advised that the baby go on the outside next to me, cos they put their baby in between them and ended up having very little physical contact with each other for over a year until the baby left the bed!

Talking of physical contact, my OH is away for a week, but there is no way anyone is getting any action as long as this rash lasts!

fourlittlefeet · 17/09/2008 13:42

MJ I was looking at those co-sleeper things in the blooming marvellous catelogue only yesterday. sound fab though I reckon they won't last long as they are very small. I used the sling with DD until she was 76cm and 10kg so size shouldn't put you off too much; they are strapped well too you like a good rucksack so the weight is distributed

(I am extremely biased as DD loved hers and would sing happily in it when awake, and slept soundly in it whilst I lunched wherever I wanted (no tube/bus restrictions as you can walk up and downstairs unimpeded) and generally felt less encumbered than my prammed up mummy friends!)

LenniEd · 17/09/2008 13:57

Also a hugabub fan here - have a storchie wrap too which I love but you have to get the hang of tying it. Still use it with DD now for walks, but luckliy she does some of the walking now to give me a rest.

I am going to get an arms reach co-sleeper crib for this baby. DD co-slept until she was 7 months but there wasn't much space in the bed! Haven't seen the blooming marvellous ones yet, will have a look.

Definately need a new thread! Elk, do you have any ideas - I can't think of anything?

Shall I do it with Everexpanding bum(p)s?

fourlittlefeet · 17/09/2008 14:21

off for coffee so happy to let someone else take the flack

Periwink · 17/09/2008 15:03

Hi ladies,

rrayray - for clothing I highly recommend www.mamalamode.com (yes quite pricey but not maternity looking and can be worn after baby is born, well that is my justification anyway) - I have ordered a few dresses and tops and the clothing is great! Also I have bought two of the ruched vest tops from Isabella Oliver in black and white and they are so flattering - highly recommend them and the quality is fantastic! Hope your spots clear soon!

Elkiedee - will think long and hard about a suitable new name for thread, but witht he current state of my brain not sure when my brain will spark into action and come up with something!!!

Just back from midwife appointment and all is well with baby - 24 weeks and 4 days.
